So let me just say, ladies, if you have never had the "hard wax" treatment, try it IMMEDIATELY. it is worth the money. In fact, i dont know why women aren't talking about it!!! why suffer through the pain?! I came here on a groupon simply because i was curious as to how a wax could possibly cost 90$...i mean seriously...90$ is kind of excessive. (and this was cheaper than the 60 i usually fork over at Dallaria's in Kenmore sq.--Vicky is the best there). Anyway, the salon itself isnt really anything special...most of the front room is devoted to the hair dressers areas, there is a tiny corner with 2 chairs where you can peruse some magazines...but again nothing fancy enough to warrant charging 90$ for a wax. Mila was running late, so i went to use the restroom. This was the only negative part about the appointment--the toilet seat was up and there were urine stains on the bowl. EWWWWWWW!!!!!!!! This is the only thing that would bring down my rating to 4.5 stars, but since you cant do halves, i rounded up to 5. (All because Mila is awesome). So I had never heard of the hard wax deal and at first when Mila started slathering the hot ass wax EVERYWHERE, i was like what is this crazy broad doing?! So trying to keep my voice calm, I casually asked whether she was planning to put strips on at some point because it was starting to harden...I was then informed that there were no strips involved! Interesting. After she tore the first piece off i was speechless. It was at least 90% less painful (if not more) than regular waxing. OH. MY. GOD. The most sensitive parts still hurt a bit, but no where close to what regular waxing does....i cant believe this!! Worth the 90$. I will be coming back. read more

I highly recommend this salon for haircuts and updos. I have been going to Simon (the owner) for about seven years now. I used to salon hop on Newbury Street until I was told about this place. Note: I have a TON of hair. Simon is the only person who can make my long thick hair manageable. He is very meticulous, takes his time, and is very knowledgeable with the latest styling techniques. You can tell he cares. A few months ago, I also came here for a wedding updo and Simon told me to see Moses here. I showed Moses a few ideas from Pinterest and he did a phenomenal job replicating the looks with his own added twist. My hair stayed in place for the entire event. I got my hair done yesterday by Simon, and could not be happier with my results!!! He did an AMAZING job. I am a brunette and my hair is very over processed between getting highlights and my roots done to cover up gray hair over the years. I expressed my concern about this to Simon and he had so much patience with me and took a lot of time to go over options we could do to give me the results I was looking for. My hair turned out beautiful and I really couldn't be happier, and this was just by retouching my roots and bringing some of the brunette down to my highlights to tone them down. This was my first experience with hard wax (they used that primarily, followed by soft wax for anything left over) and I have no complaints. The room was in a weird basement area, but it was clean, comfy, and there was peaceful music playing in the background. The service was wonderful! Ludmila was completely pleasant and funny and explained everything thoroughly. She seemed to really know what she was doing. The front desk person was also patient and courteous when I had to switch around appointments. BTW, I came here with the 50% off Groupon. I think the normal price for a Brazilian here is $90, which is a bit pricier than what I'm used to, but I would say it's definitely worth the $45 voucher. The whole process took no more than 25 minutes, and overall it was better than any Newbury St. waxer I've been to. read more

I am updating this review after I received a terrible highlight job. I went back in May to get a haircut and the receptionist acted as if I didn't exist and couldn't remember my name clearly as she asked me again and again. The cut itself was fine and what I was looking for. I made an appointment about two weeks later to get highlights in my dark brown hair, to lighten up my look a bit for summer. After waiting over 45 minutes past my appointment (they had squeezed in a woman who needed her hair done for a wedding) I was finally seated. The employees themselves were short with each other and clearly didn't get along well as one made comments about another. Two hours after sitting down (now at almost 3 hours) I was finally finished. As I looked in the mirror, I saw no change, nothing not even a hint of color. As they pointed out to me, if I tilted my head just the right way, and stood just right in the light I could kind of see the highlights. I was angry, it was clearly an error and rather than admit it, they tried to convince me there was color in my hair when there was none. They brushed me off and scheduled an appointment for another time. After showing my friends and telling them the story, they convinced me to not go back and waste another 3 hours of my time. read more

She is AMAZING! I am constantly getting compliments on my hair cut and color. The salon itself isn't fancy and they don't serve you coffee or tea like the more expensive salons will, but who cares. I was in need of a haircut today and didn't feel like going far, so Yelp led me to Eve Michael Salon in Washington Square. Little did I know I was in for a rather uncomfortable experience.... Simon, the owner, greeted me and cut my hair. He was not too chatty, which was fine by me, but there were a lot of distractions! I had barely gotten settled into the chair when someone (his wife maybe?) came in to speak with Simon while he was cutting my hair, and then the phone rang... There was one other stylist in the salon, but she had gone out to move her car, so Simon had to answer the phone himself. When the other stylist came back, there seemed to be some sort of tension in the air because she slammed the bathroom door and was banging things around. Awkward moments passed. I was the only customer at the time of my appointment (one customer left before me and one arrived just after my cut was finished). Simon didn't appear to be perturbed though. He just kept humming along to the easy listening music that was playing and snipped away... So back to my cut...I had brought in an old photo to demonstrate the style and length I desired. Simon seemed to understand, but the resulting cut was a little too blunt for my liking. I suppose I could've asked him to correct it, but I didn't want him to cut my hair any shorter, so I just let it slide. To be clear, I don't think it looks horrible; it's just not what I wanted and not the level of service I had expected for a $55 cut. Unfortunately, I don't think I'd come back again as the whole experience made me feel weird and not relaxed at all. Of note, there is free customer parking in a lot behind the salon. read more

Like many other ladies contested, this was also my first "hard wax" experience. I normally pay around $30 for everything to be removed, but having not had anything waxed in a year, I experimented here to see if a higher price equated to less pain as other Yelpers claimed. Well, not enough to make a difference because my legs were trembling from a pain exacerbated by apprehension. The nice Russian lady massaged the areas after each yank, telling me this is very high quality--expensive--wax. Yet, for $68 after tips, I looked down to see various hairs missed. I had assumed she'd make everything perfect with tweezers, like all other budget waxing services. $68 best spent elsewhere, but at least now I know. (They have package deals where each appointment is reduced to $45 rather than regular $60, but for $35 I can get better results at Luiz Hair Salon in Allston.) You can park along the street but there is free parking behind the building, so just call them and ask. read more

I tried this place on a whim due to a Groupon special plus the fact that I live in the neighborhood. I called on a Thursday to ask about a Saturday opening and was pleased that they did have an appointment available. Moe ended up being who I spoke to as I found out when I arrived. He was also my stylist. I told him I was very low-maintenance and just wanted a trim to remove the split ends and even out some of the odd lengths but ultimately wanted to grow it out a few inches, and he totally understood and respected my wishes. I only visited this salon because the most amazing waxer of all time worked there. I followed her from another salon in Brookline and have seen her for about five years but now she has moved to the Aveda salon in Faneuil Hall. Erma is the most incredible Brazilian technician of all time - super painless, quick, friendly, and accomodating. She makes you feel so comfortable you forget you aren't wearing any pants! Love her - go and seek her out at Aveda! I already have :) Eve Michael salon itself is okay - they don't like you to pay with anything but cash which is a little bit suspicious and sometimes they are strange about they manner in which they book appointments. But again, I've never had anything but waxing here so cannot comment on hair. read more

I have been going to Eve Michael for over 2 years - driving an hour each way to get here simply to see Erma, who is the best at Brazilian Wax Services (And I've been all over, CT, RI and MA) The salon is average - never full...seems ok, but I wouldn't go there except for the efficient, fast, professional and nearly pain free Waxing that Erma does. I don't know anything else about the salon, except for the services I got from Erma, who I hear has moved over to the Aveda near Faneuil Hall. Accept no substitute! I would give the salon a better score, except for the slight attitude I get from the staff. The cashiers - no matter if I'm on the phone, standing there or waiting nearby the front desk - they always made me feel like I was bothering them. Try to pay for the service and tip in one transaction, they act as if you are insane. There's even a sign on the counter asking for cash or check only. But parking is easy - there's a lot behind and meters out front. Great coffee shop next door....All in all, it's ok. But I won't go there unless Erma returns. read more

Erma is my hero and my new best friend! I ventured to this Washington Square salon after I purchased a groupon for a $40 Brazilian wax. After checking out other Yelp reviews I decided to request Emra to do the deed. She was fantastic...and thorough...and super quick! She uses hard wax. She didn't use any of those scary white paper strips. It was just me, Erma, and the wax. I've gotten Brazilians before that range from super painful to kinda painful. This time the pain was so minute that it really didn't even register as painful. When she was finished, I jumped up, bounced out the door, and continued on with my day. The salon itself isn't the most glam but the staff seems super friendly and real. Myra the receptionist is really friendly. Would I pay regular price for a Brazilian by Erma at Eve Michael's Salon?? I highly reccomend Vicki at Eve Michael Salon & Spa. After the salons started to open back up after Covid. I went to high end salon in Newton to get a fun cut and color. The stylist ruined my hair!!! Once my hair started growing out a few weeks later it was choppy and straggly, and it was a mess!!! Upon recommendation from a friend I went to see Vicki at Eve Michael Salon. I sat in her chair and she explained to me what she feels needs to be done to start the process of fixing the damage that was done. She fixed the damage the previous stylist did and gave me a cute cut that still looks amazing 4 weeks later. She also did a beautiful job with my color, and I am so happy I found such a talented stylist and colorist. I found my new stylist and will absolutely be back! read more

Caveat: I don't know anything about their hair services; I only go here for Erma. Erma does a FANTASTIC Brazilian. She's very quick, as painless as a Brazilian can be (i.e., first one smarts some, later ones don't hurt...as long as you keep it up), and very, very thorough. I've been to a number of other places, in Boston, New York, and Seattle, and no one compares to Erma and her magic technique. She uses hard wax (Why does anyone use anything else? Beware the softer waxes -- they feel awesome, but in my experience they break the hair off instead of pulling it out at the root). Her facials are also excellent, and while I don't have as much basis for comparison there, I've never gotten a bad facial from her, and her own amazing skin is testament to her skills. Anyhow -- if you're in the neighborhood (and by that I mean north of New York and south of Montreal), definitely stop by and see Erma for a wax and facial -- she's the adorable petite blonde in a white lab coat! read more

My previous hair stylist left the salon she was working in so I decided it was time to find someone new and closer to home. I researched salons in my Brookline area and saw that Eve Michael had received glowing reviews on yelp! so I decided to give them a try. I called late one afternoon and was given an appointment for the next day with Simon. From the minute I walked in to Eve Michael's I felt very comfortable. Simon greeted me by name and shook my hand while introducing himself. I know this sounds like a trivial thing to do - but I have never been greeted that cordially by a stylist before. Even my regular hairdresser! Back on track ... I told Simon exactly what I was looking for and not only did he listen to me, but actually showed me what it would turn out to be. He was very patient and receptive - even offering me options and opinions. I opted for a less severe inverted bob and I absolutely love it! I had a hard time knowing how to rate this salon because I don't actually like the salon itself at all, but some of the people who work there are fabulous. I used to go to Heads Up salon in Brookline Village. I went there for years and loved it. Unfortunately Heads Up closed after the owner died suddenly. When I heard that Dee, who has been cutting my hair for years and is amazing, had gone to Eve Michael along with several other stylists from Heads Up, I decided to follow. The salon is painfully bright with fluorescent lights, the walls are an ugly bright orange color, the receptionist can be really negative, and they give you a hard time if you use a credit card even though they have a credit card machine. Dee does such an excellent job that I'll keep going there to see her, but I'd be pretty psyched if she decided to go someplace else so I could follow her there instead. read more
