My adult son and I decided to try Evelyn's Drive In for our celebration of his upcoming 30th birthday after seeing movie at Providence Place. It was about 2pm when we arrived, which we planned, for late lunch. We were happily greeted and seated right away. Started with Evelyn's Punch and son had a local beer. We both enjoyed our drinks. I asked for less sweet punch, it was suggested omitting cranberry juice which was perfect solution. For apps we ordered Calamari and the Blue Fish Dip. Calamari was crisp and tender, although we've never dipped in melted butter, prefer lemon and malt vinegar. The pickled peppers were great acidic cut. The Bluefish Dip-generous potion with toasted baguette slices, 24 hours later I'm still raving about. Thank goodness we had enough for leftovers. Creamy and that bluefish greatness -delicious. For lunch son ordered fish wrap and I ordered the fish tacos. Huge portions we shared and both took home enough for another meal+. Special nod to the housemade Boom-Boom sauce. I should have asked for extra to dip fries. It was that good. The fries were clearly fresh cut, perfectly crisped and salted. Beautiful scenery, great service, yummy food and reasonably priced for quality and portion sizes. Already planning a return visit!

This place seems to be a local institution for locals. First time here so not sure what to expect. Pulled into the parking lot and the place was pretty empty. Took me some time to read the menu was I was set on fried scallops. I hate when they list MP. What's MP when the the market are selling lobster at 8.99-12.99 a pound. Why isn't the price reflected. Anywho. Ordered scallops and a short time. Got my food and went to six down. Dinning area is pretty nice outdoor seating overlooking the river. Open my box and was shocked to see the little scallops I got. 40 bucks!

Evelyn's is a local FAVORITE! Great seafood and even better better atmosphere. Who doesn't want to eat seafood right on the water??? Cannot be beat! And they have plenty of options for those who don't enjoy seafood.

I always stop here when in area. Today orders a side of scallops... Holy Batman 40 bucks Not worth it... Scallops were excellent fresh, fried perfect but greasy on bed of lettuce... Prices scaring me away next time... I don't see me returning til prices improve... I eat scallops many places and 40 bucks for 1.2-3/4 lb of scallops is about 12-15 bucks at retail supermarket prices Wholesale price probably 8-10 bucks ; so 300% markup

Local landmark with good fried seafood. A Corvette club pulled in for lunch so besides a delicious lunch there were some beautiful cars to look at. I had a clam strip dinner. A little pricey but good. Enjoyed the outdoor seating with a water view. Nice place for a tasty lunch.

So when you pull up you're greeted by the water, you can dine in or out. We went approx 7p-730p on a Saturday. Wasn't too busy, weather was perfect to sit outside. We started with the crab cake appy, which was served on a bed of mixed greens. They were nice. Crispy outside, warm inside w/ crab not that filler stuff. lol. For drinks we had some virgin blood orange like spritzer which was refreshing. Our entrees were the lobster chow mein and Lobster roll (with butter) and fries. Both Delish. So.. the chow mein noodles are fried and topped with the lobster and gravy w/ onions and celery. It is a huge portion the only negative is that if your a texture person it doesn't do well on the reheat. So if you're not someone to eat the whole portion in one setting I would recommend splitting it. Would've loved a little more lobstahhh. Now for the roll, divine. The roll was buttered and toasted. The lobster was tender and warm, not chewy. Fries were freshly fried and crispy. I'd definitely return for the roll and the crabcake, the chow mein, since a bit went to waste, I'd split or omit from my next order, it was still a little something different that I'm glad I tried.

Plain old average. The white chowder lacked any flavor and the clam cakes weren't a whole lot better.

Unfortunately, I was met with an absolutely atrocious attitude from the young lady who served me today. I asked for two whole filets of Arctic Char from the back cooler instead of the two in the front case. Why? Well, the real answer is that it doesn't matter why...I'm the customer paying nearly $60 for fish and if that's what I want, then the correct answer is a smile and a "no problem, let me go get that for you!" Instead, what I got was a look of utter contempt and an "I mean, what's the difference?" sarcastic reply with one palm raised up to emphasize just how ridiculous my request was. When she returned with the fish, I said "just FYI, all that should matter is that I'm the customer (paying top dollar for a premium product), maybe I'm just a bit OCD." Her response, again with that famous Gen-Z contempt, was "I mean, there's no difference, we just brought it (the fish in the case) out, but anyways, I got you your fish." She just didn't get it. The owner overheard everything and chimed in "all of our fish is fresh here, you don't need to worry about that." Yeah, I know that it's a good product, it's why I shop here, but if my unique brain feels better about having it brought out from the back cooler, why should that merit even a drop of bad attitude?! I told the owner, "I just shouldn't have to explain myself," he retorted "you didn't" and I told him "no, actually I did." So basically, I went in looking forward to a nice experience and left feeling really irritated. Sometimes when I'm passing through Westport, I stop by Westport Lobster Company. I always ask for my fish from the back...and all that I ever get is a smile and a "sure, no problem, let me get that for you." I prefer to spend money in my own town, but I'm not going back to this place and neither is my wife...We don't need to be rewarding rudeness with our hard-earned dollars.

Our server was maybe overloaded as it was pretty packed. The drinks were ok. I feel like they are more of an overpriced novelty. I recommend wine instead. The food was also overpriced as well. I wish I took a picture of my salad. I got the wedge salad which was just two small pieces of lettuce which was also a quarter inedible. They charged me 30 dollars for a tiny "salad" that didn't even have all the ingredients/garnishes it was said to come with and the smallest slice of salmon I've ever seen. I was actually laughing at this. It took me all of 5 min to eat my "meal". The calamari was also soggy and imo not cooked well. The shrimp and corn fritters were sooooo good! I recommend them!

I went on a rainy Monday around noon and there was still a steady flow of customers. It seems to be a pretty popular spot. The staff is all very friendly. The soups were served to us immediately after paying. The New England Clam Chowder was good. Nice amount of clams and very creamy. I had never had Rhode Island Clam Chowder before and this seemed like the place to try it. The clear broth was surprisingly flavorful but I still prefer New England. My girlfriend and I ordered a good amount and the food came out pretty quickly. My favorite was the kung pao calamari. The squid was fried perfectly and having the sauce on the side was nice as it didn't leave the breading to get all soggy and I had control over how sweet it would be. The stuffed Quahogs tasted good but I feel like I tasted more of the stuffing over the actual shellfish. It still tasted good, but I feel like I should've gotten more shellfish. We were told they ran out of shells to serve them on so the presentation was off, but they were still tasty. The lobster rolls were both good. They were $27 which seems pretty steep to me but they were actually on the cheaper side compared to other places we saw around Newport. The lobster tasted fresh and the bread was good. They were solid lobster rolls. The food was all solid, but for the price I wasn't wowed.

Waitress did not check in to see how we liked our food after it was delivered, but otherwise gave great service with a smile. Menu is small and very meat and seafood centric - not especially ideal for picky eaters or vegetarians/vegans. The Thai wrap appetizer tasted exactly like the Asian salad you can buy in a bag at the grocery store for $3. They were not really 'wraps' but this pre-made salad tossed upon some leaves of lettuce, difficult to eat, and had only the smallest dallop of peanut sauce on them (which was the best part!) My partner's General Al's Chicken took you on a journey from savory to sweet to spicy flavor-wise, but there was something off about the taste that he did not care for (and I've never seen him dislike food at a restaurant. Ever.) My side salad was lettuce only doused in the same aforementioned Asian salad grocery store mix dressing, with lots of wilted/old lettuce that I had to pick out. My entree was good but tasted generic, like something I've had at other chain restaurants a million times before with no unique twist put on it. It had a sauce but it had little to no flavor - couldn't figure out what it even was and didn't remember it being on the menu - so it added nothing to the dish. There are lots of rave reviews here, but we just don't get it. We've ordered takeout from here before and that time, too, we were not overwhelmed with joy, just kind of 'whelmed.' Very 'meh,' and with so many other incredible food establishments within a 25 minute drive in Providence or in between, or even great local spots in town, this place just doesn't hold a candle. Not worth going back. It felt like a very novice chef was at the helm and dishes lacked inspiration and new, exciting flavors that we haven't seen before.
