Fried whole belly clams & tartar sauce.
    Seth B.

Roy Boy's Clam Shack - 6710 Post Rd, Kingstown, RI After spending the afternoon at Beavertail State Park in Jamestown, my wife and I were on the hunt for a new spot to eat nearby. She came across Roy Boy's Clam Shack, just a short 30-minute drive away, and we decided to give it a try. We were happy to see there wasn't much of a line when we arrived. My wife already had her eye on dessert--ice cream--before we even ordered dinner. She's been a lobster roll connoisseur for nearly 20 years, so of course, she went straight for the lobster roll. We also shared a large clam chowder, which was excellent--loaded with clams, not overloaded with potatoes, creamy but not too heavy. Now, the lobster roll. Photos don't do it justice. It was huge, packed with massive claw meat, lightly dressed with mayo--just the way she likes it. She gave it a solid 8/10! I went with the whole belly clams with fries and slaw. The coleslaw was creamy and tasty, the clams fried to perfection--crispy golden brown, tender inside, not greasy at all. Fries were just okay, but the clams were the real star. The tartar sauce was excellent, too. The vibe is super casual--roadside shack with plenty of outdoor seating. No frills, but the food makes up for it. The staff, mostly younger kids, were all very friendly and welcoming. To finish things off, my wife popped next door for dessert: a vanilla soft-serve dipped in chocolate, one of her childhood favorites. We'll definitely be back--next time to try the hot buttered lobster roll.

This place has evolved and is so much more than a clam shack. Recently, they've re-vamped and now offer sandwiches and pizza in addition to their trademark seafood. The pizza had a nice sweet sauce and was cooked well with a quality cheese and crust. Reasonable prices. Small cramped inside, so you're probably better off getting it to-go or sitting outside once it gets warmer.

So far so good! This recently opened clam shack doesn't have the views or the ambiance of South County/Galilee clam shacks (Post Road rather than beaches and harbors) but the food has the potential to give them a run for their money. We've only had their whole belly fried clams at this point - but they are definitely on-point! Non-greasy, lightly battered whole belly clams were quite good and fresh. Came with a nicely tart tarter sauce. A promising preview of summer. If you need a fried clam fix, Roy's will do quite admirably without having to trek all the way down Route 1 (and presumably avoid the crowds when tourist season starts). Roy's also does plenty of other Rhodie favorites like stuffies, fish & chips, fried calamari, doughboys, NY system weiners, as well as burgers, BLT's, and other sandwiches. I'm looking forward to trying those too! Take-out only, outdoor seating is available. No table service. Takes cash or credit cards.

    Baked Haddock

Stopped by for dinner and opted for the baked haddock. While the dish was cooked well, it lacked the flavor I was expecting. The cracker crumb topping and butter were barely noticeable, leaving the overall experience a bit underwhelming. It was a very plain dish. Based on this, I believe this spot shines more for its fried offerings rather than its baked options.

    Cap cod Reuben

Highly recommend you check out Roy boys! The food was delicious and so reasonably priced. The cape cod Reuben is phenomenal and I was very impressed with the fried shrimp- the batter was light and crispy and the shrimp tasted so fresh and perfectly cooked, not over cooked in the slightest. Everything exceeded my expectations greatly!

We asked to sit outside and were stunned by the epic views of the docks that they have. It truly was a breathtaking sight. My only gripe was that it wasn't as shaded (either naturally or by awnings) as I thought it would be which made for a warm experience. However, the staff were great about accommodating any requests to move with some of the available tables they did have. Also, though no fault of their own I kept getting some septic smells in the breeze. It was faint and not all the time but definitely not something you want while having lunch- hopefully whichever business owner or home owner having that issue can get that cleared up. Our waitress was very friendly, attentive but not overbearing, and made sure we were well taken care of. I ordered the fish and chips. Our food came out quickly and everything looked good! Their mango coleslaw is unique but tasty. The fish was nice and flaky with a crispy batter. I found it to be a little greasy but nothing too worrying. Overall, a great meal to have by the water. I think Wickford on the Water is a great spot and one that anyone should try when they take a trip down to North Kingstown!

The response was we only take reservations for parties of 6 or more. Fair enough. I said I'd like to drive up and pit my name in for the next available table for 4. We arrived around 6:30 and I put in my name. I was told it would be 30-45 minutes. No problem. I ordered drinks at the bar and sat outside enjoying the night. At 7:20 I went back and side and saw two 4 tops open and asked the waitress if either of those were for us. Her response "We can't sit 4 people at those tables only." Found that odd seeing as the other 4 tops had 4 people sitting there. She said she was waiting for the table in the back to finish and we could have that one. I said ok and ordered more drinks and went back outside. At around 8:15 a couple came strolling by us and asked what the wait was like. I said we had been waiting for an hour and a half, but they could go check if the bar had seats. 15 minutes after they went in I went in and saw them seated at one of the 4 tops that was open earlier. I asked the waitress why she would sit 2 people that just walked in at a table that fits 4 people that have been waiting for close to 2 hours. Her response "They had reservations." First off that's a total lie as I just spoke to them before they went in. Second, you said you don't take reservations for parties of less than 6 people!! To make matters worse, 2 other staff that my brother in law and I spoke to about the situation all gave differing stories about reservations. Again, you told me on the phone no reservations for parties under 6 people. And to top it off, no apologies, no offer to fix it, no offer of apps or dessert or anything. Not looking for freebies, but literally no remorse. All they did was hide in the back and try to ignore us until the bartender helped us. We have been here many times, always good food, service is good, but the host station is always chaotic. This time took the cake. Will not be back for a while.
