I really loved going to this library every week as it was a good place to be and hangout with my friends, but recently i was with a group of my friends around the recetangular table in the middle, then a random guy comes out of nowhere yelling gibberish about how my friends and I where on the second floor disturbing him (me and my friends on this day were not at all on the second floor) and while saying these things, he came next to me and he clenched his fist ready to punch me. I was really scared for my life (being a high-school teenager) but the security guard, the staff and the people around us did nothing, and I and my friends were frozen in fear, the guy randomly left, so we thought he came to his senses or he realized that we were never in the second floor, so we continued on our own business. Then suddenly 10 or minutes after that, the guy shoved me hard and I knocked down one of my friends that was sitting next to me, so the rest of my friends left calmly, to call security or ask for help, and the guy that shoved me kept talking more gibberish about us in the second floor bothering him, so the person next to me was desperately trying to explain we were never in the second floor today, (keep mind that nobody including the security guards did anything, I don't think they even cared) then the guy randomly called his dog on the second floor in the library (and keep in mind that pets are strictly not allowed in the library and I was so scared the dog was going to maul me) and then the guy was yelling for the security to come (which up on to this point was literally doing nothing) and he told the security guard that we were on the second floor bothering him (the security guard knew we never were on the second floor) the security guard then said to me and the guy that we will be kicked out if we don't stop bothering each other, the guy then left to the second floor(and I was thinking thats it? You're not going to do anything about himself assaulting me?) And I was so shocked that the people around me, the security guard and the staff did nothing about this. (Also keep in mind that one time me and my friend was throwing around a light ball in the library and we were threatened to be kicked out of the library and we had to really apologize to be not kicked out) so if I throw around a ball I get kicked out of the library but if a random guy assaults me he gets of scott free. (I don't feel safe anymore in this library especially when the staff didn't care a vulnerable high-school kid was being assaulted infront of them) read more

I've never brought my kid to a library, but was pleasantly surprised when we went there today! There's a whole area for little kids with some toys and books. We were there for a couple hours and could have stayed longer if naps weren't a thing. I like that they have a "needs to be cleaned" bin, cause my toddler still likes to put things in his mouth! There were a bunch of other kids and it was just a great place to get some social interaction and playtime. And it's FREE. Wins all around, thank you! read more

I like the cleanliness and newer look of this library. Furniture is nice, they have all kinds of seating, a kids area, teen area, quiet rooms, group study rooms, a computer area and everything is nicely organized. Huge plus for the air purifiers around too. I usually come in the morning on weekdays and it's never very busy. My favorite area is the couch chairs in the back which has nice lighting and is a peaceful place to read. It's also next to a large meeting room which I've never seen used but it's very spacious, equipped with tables, chairs, and whiteboards. read more

As with many Seattle-area libraries, it's a homeless shelter with books. The whole place smells like urine, old men hacking away nearby as you're trying to get lost in a novel. I know how I sound, and I don't care. It's a bad experience coming to the library, and that's a real shame. read more

I just went to the Everett Public Library this morning to find a non-fiction audio book and found quite a large selection! I have been driving to Bellevue, Bothell, and Shoreline to find something to listen to on my long drives, and the Everett Library is not only closer, but offers more than Shoreline or Bothell Public Libraries. In searching for a library in Snohomish County, I found the Everett Public Library online and I happened to read someone's comment that is was a homeless shelter with books. I was not sure what I would find, but Not So! I took the time to look around to see what this person was talking about, but the library is clean, and does not smell like urine. If that was the case back in 2023, it's not that way today 8/15/2024. I plan on making this library my go to when I need to find another interesting audio book. read more

My kid could spend hours here on a rainy day. The kid section has plenty of content. Less clutter for your house! And it's a good way to teach kids about sharing and taking care of their things. This is by far the coolest library in the area. It's got that great, old school library vibe and I could hang out and read here all day. I worked at the library when I was a teenager and this is not a situation where you should work in a place you love to hang out. If you like to read, there are a whole lot of distractions. It's also a public place and your boss can't kick your friends out when they show up to visit you while you work so he eventually throws you out. Technology has advanced quite a bit since my days working at the public library and my kids wouldn't have a clue how to use a card catalog. This is classic library meets the Jetsons. I love being able to search for books on the internet at home and then pop by and pick them up when I get an email that they've arrived. The staff is friendly and helpful and the experience is always great. read more

SUCH a sweet place to visit!! They had a book sale going on and I saw short a few cents and they didn't mind at all. There's a great selection of kids books (including dinosaur books which are my nephew's favorite!). They have a gorgeous balcony perfect for studying on non-rainy days. The view is SPECTACULAR. After having returned from living in Berkeley for a year, this library is pretty great! With ample large tables and desks for independent study, this library will certainly have space and the wifi to fulfill your study needs. The wifi runs at a decent speed and doesn't crap out on you. Thank goodness b/c that's the only reason why I'm here. Also, if you're lucky, you might find a pleasant spot near the west side where you can get an epic view of Puget Sound. The library is neat and clean and people are generally courteous. There's a cafe next door to keep you going, and a friendly security guard who will chat it up with you if you so desire. Overall, it's a pretty neat and spacious library with plenty of parking. Even if you don't need to study, it's a great spot to check out, at the least. read more

Love this library. The library is gorgeous on the outside and wonderfully organized on the inside. The kids area is fantastic and makes my kiddos and I want to keep coming back. The staff are friendly and always happy to help you out. It's easy to get your holds, find what you need, and check out whether through self checkout or with a staff member assisting. I live at Library Place, right next to the library, so I come here all the time. Hours are great. Access to computers is free as well as printing 5 pages a day. If you want to print more, you just have to pay 10 cent per page or 15 cent for double sided. They have a copier which obviously copies but also scans as well. You can scan a document, put it on a thumb drive, and have it or email it. The library has a thumb drive you can borrow. They have a lot of top rated books (Good Reads or book clubs) and if it's a popular book, the wait is usually not too long. They also have DVD movies and music CDs that you can check out. Folks are friendly and helpful. They usually also have some books and old records for sale...cheap. Bookend Coffee shop is nice to have right there at the library! read more

I love the kids section. Story time is noisy welcome from being at home. Kids can get up and dance and sing. Activity afterwards. Really nice have a noise room separate for activities. Not to mention good place to use for community reasons. I love the time limit on the computers for the kids. Teen section is really nice too. I like how the librarians understand toddlers make noise and don't ahhh too much. Learning activities are always fun and great. Not to mention summer reading program. Can we get a all year reading program or kids reading club ? Just a thought. Times for paws reading is a little off considering kids don't get out till 330. I will say some unfortunate people do come in and linger near bathrooms by the kids place. But never anything rude or untoward has happened so its fine. Fish tank is a favorite. I wish they would add American girl magazine toc the magazine rack. Also the scanner could be shorter for short people or have a kids one in by the fish tank. Either way I love taking my kids here for events. Guests etc. Love checking out books here. Not to mention the cafe. While I got confused about the ordered it was worth the price. I ordered shortcake and got strawberry shortcake with cream and sprinkles. And it was on a dish with a nice doily not to mention the cocoa was really good. UPDATE: I visited the library recently and noticed that the space is now being leased by a new coffee shop (Tabby's Coffee). The space already seemed more friendly and inviting when walking in. There were no more signs on the tables stating to leave if you weren't purchasing and I even noticed a sign that encouraged coming in to read a book and meeting with friends. I applaud the new owners at creating a positive place in such an amazing library. I received a private message recently from the new owner inviting me to come back. I was so impressed by their proactive message to me. I encourage everyone to stop in and support this coffee shop. read more

Since I have been going to the library for years I have to say its OK. The town of Everett had incorporated, then shortly afterward its growth was halted by the Panic of 1893. The Everett Public Library was created on June 10, 1894 by the Everett Women's Book Club. On that day a group of local women met in the home of Mary Lincoln Brown to form the Book Club that would have as its aim the "improvement of the mind through the study of literature", but more specifically, the establishment of a public library.[5][6][7][8] The initial collection of 1,000 books was donated by members of women's clubs across the country. Gathering books and petitioning City Council when funds were scarce, the Everett Women's Book Club set up a temporary library in the home of a member, and in 1898 the city offered them three rooms in City Hall, and service began. The Club continued to work for permanent quarters, next moving to a small building, and in 1905 the Everett Public Library became a Carnegie library after it received a $25,000 Carnegie grant to design an official library for the city of Everett.[7][9] Everett started the first bookmobile service in Washington state, and the second in the West in 1924. Nicknamed Pegasus, the Model T Ford remained in service until 1950.[10] In 1992 the library re-acquired the vehicle, and began restoring it to as close to its original condition as possible.[11] Now Pegasus participates in 4 July parades and other community events, and lays claim to being the world's oldest extant bookmobile.[1][7] By 1930 Everett had outgrown the Carnegie building, but with the Great Depression there was little hope of a new building. Industrialist Leonard Howarth left a bequest to the city which was used to erect a new $100,000 library at 2702 Hoyt Avenue.[7] Seattle architect Carl F. Gould designed the facility, which opened October 3, 1934.[7][12] In 1962, the library expanded, doubling its shelving capacity. In 1981 an anonymous donor gave the library $75,000 to computerize its circulation, cataloging, and inventory systems. In 1985, the Evergreen Branch is opened, and in 1987 funding was approved to add an additional 20,000 square feet (1,900 m2) to the Main Library.[7] In 1991 expansion of the Main Library was completed. This expansion was designed by the Cardwell/Thomas Architects and B. Craig Thompson of Dykeman Architects. The expansion won an award from the American Institute of Architects.[13] Except for some exterior renovation, the building remains largely unchanged, at 54,985 sq ft (5,108.3 m2), shelving capacity for 250,000 volumes and a parking garage that can hold 115 vehicles. The original building, located at 3001 Oakes, still stands but no longer houses the library. Over the years, it has been used as a funeral parlor, housed Snohomish County executive offices, and other County functions. The main branch of the Everett Public library is a beautiful facility with a great area designated for children to be able to play and be somewhat noisy. The Evergreen branch has no such facility so with the exception of specific story times in a kid room it isn't a kid friendly library. The reason I'm giving only two stars is because of the discriminatory behavior I observed on the part of one of the library "teachers" toward a young mother and her child. Library "teacher" Theresa leads some of the preschool story times and for some reason she has an apparent bias against low income parents. This is the only explanation I can come up with to explain why she would so rudely tell a mother that her very smart, capable 2.8 year old child could not participate in the preschool story time even though there were children much younger than her participating in the group. The only difference I could see between this young mother and child who were denied access to a FREE activity is this parent doesn't have all the same financial resources the parents and children allowed in have. read more

This place is amazing. The librarians are so great, helpful and enthusiastic. The building is huge and has so much to offer. They even have a cozy coffee shop attached where you can drink your espresso and read your books. Right near the waterfront. The Everett Public Library is heaven. Such a good library. Tables placed in different corners and plenty of private areas to settle in and big tables to spread out on. I like that they have multiple copiers available and that there are hole punchers and staplers for patron use. Unfortunately, if you live outside of the city of Everett, good luck getting a library card or borrowing any of their materials. read more

I have been so impressed with the Everett Public Library since I was in the first grade and 19 52 and it has been a major part of my growing up learning and being exposed to so much great literature Music Arts and reference section that would give us all the background we could find at the time for our papers to write in school, essays, and historical data and information that we could not get anywhere else at the time. It is so much nicer today the staff is still as wonderful as they were back in those days. The summer reading program in grade school was instrumental in keeping me interested in so many things and to this day I owe my wonderful opportunity to always read something new. And to find out more about the world at hand. It seems that today we have so much information available to us through the internet there we can find out anything very easily. Looking back I think it was more fun to be searching for information and background for papers and the availability of staff on hand to help me find what I was looking for it was personable as opposed to just looking for the subject matter and my computer at home what a treasure we have in the Everett Public Library.
