I tried - in vain - to have electricians return my calls for 3 weeks prior to turning to Yelp for help. I posted a plea for a quote from 3 other electrical companies and of the 3, only Evergreen Electric contacted me, and within one hour! Mind you, I only required a ceiling fan to be assembled and installed, but they were Johnny on the spot. Brandon, the owner's son, called me on the weekend and we scheduled a day for the following week. On Monday morning he called and said he would be in the area that morning, and true to his word, he and his helper showed up within the hour. Together they had the fan up and working in 30 minutes. Polite, professional and industrious they were. Very reasonable charge, too. I HIGHLY recommend this company. Highly!! read more

We had Evergreen come out and give an estimate on some work we needed done. We agreed on the price and signed the contract. After starting the work, they stated they couldn't finish a generator switch unless we upgraded our entire electrical box at a 7500 cost. We decided not to finish the work and not move forward. We agreed to pay what work was done per the contract and get the rest of our deposit back. On our original signed contract it showed $0 dollars for one line item and then we get charged $200 additional outside the contract. Charging more than what the original contract stated is completely uncalled for and unethical. But the owner refuses to refund the $200 extra he charged outside the contract. The excuse we were told was for man hours, if man hours aren't included in the original contract, then they should maybe write their estimates differently to show that, because all this is showing is being dishonest and charging more than what was agreed on. They offered to rewrite the contract to show it that way but in all reality, that isn't our fault. We had a signed contract and they went outside of that. They basically expect the customer to pay for their mistake on the original estimate and signed contract. Also reading a few more reviews, this seems to be the norm for this company, so if you hire them, expect to pay more than the signed contract, even when no extra work was done. read more

We hired Downing to supply power from our house panel to a newly built garage. On the day of this job, I told him to position the pvc conduit apx. 1 ft above grade, on the exterior garage wall. He said quote, " that's a code violation". He attached that conduit almost 4 ft above grade. Later on I heard sawing and loud banging noise from inside garage. Had a look and he had sawed of a two foot section of 2 X 4 wall stud. He NEVER extended the courtesy of asking if he could or if it was necessary to "remodel" part of our garage framing! ( to install a panel) If he had first asked, I would have said I don't need a large 16 breaker panel . Or told him to surface mount it. In the process of sawing and hammering, Downing caused 3 nail holes to protrude on exterior wall. Which was only 2 months old. (see photos). When the electrical inspector was here, he DID NOT PASS this job. Downing did not ground the box he installed on exterior of house. Also he put a GE breaker in a Siemens panel. Even I know you don't mismatch brand names. Then I looked closely at this GE breaker and it was very dusty. Am guessing he had it lying around in his van, instead of buying a new Siemens breaker. (I wondered why he told me..."I'm giving you a 100 amp breaker!! ) I only asked for an 80 amp breaker and that was in his quote. When the inspector was here, I told him that Downing had said it's a code violation to shorten conduit on garage exterior. Inspector said there is no code restriction. Final comment: He didn't wire up the plugs into the outlets. He said that is done after the walls have sheetrock installed. Said ok coz that made sense. But Downing said I would have to pay extra for him to come back. I had to argue that his fee has to include completing all necessary wiring. Which makes sense! read more

Joe is proceeding to make a mess of everything the other subcontractors have done. I suppose anyone can drill a hole in a plumbing pipe or put junction boxes in unaccessible locations but Joe is also capable of ruining new maple cabinets with his haphazard use of the drill. The cabinet maker said keep the holes back 7/8" but the holes are between 2 and 3 1/2 inches--I don't think the molding the cabinet maker made will hide wires, holes or the low voltage lights. I am not sure the damage can be repaired in a way that it is not visible. There were no minus numbers so that's why there is one star.. read more

This is the second time Joe has done electrical work for us. It is so easy to communicate with him through texts, always on time and fast plus reasonable. The first time was a larger problem that he had to be a little creative to make it work but again, fast, on time and reasonable. Really appreciate Joe and can recommend highly. read more

I wish I had a good review to give Joe, but the way he not only treated my house, but how he left it was not professional. When he was first hired, we needed a new sub panel box in the garage and a new panel in the house. He replaced both, but didn't bring a tarp to put the sod and dirt onto and just threw it into the yard. Covering up already green grass longer and making it die. Then he filled our trash cans with all of his stuff instead of policing it himself. Didn't even ask if he could. Just went and did it. Left wire pieces and insulation pieces all over the place where our dogs could get hurt on. The second time he came out, he left a huge hole in the bathroom wall, installed a bathroom exhaust fan, didn't tell us that he doesn't vent them out of the house, so it's venting into the attic. Put the fan on the same light switch even after being told to have it on a separate switch. Didn't even come ask us to move our tooth brushes or anything that was on our bathroom counter and got drywall dust all over our floor, bathroom stuff, all over the counter, lights. It was a mess and he barely even tried to clean it up. Was told he would need to come back with a light fixture for our back porch on Monday. That was 2 weeks ago and he still hasn't come out to finish the job and continually dodging our calls and for the price that he was paid for both times, he didn't give his best work at all. Joe is awesome. I just bought my first brand new washer dryer set. I always had family hand me downs at a used price . This last dryer literally fried the metal within the 220 outlet. So I tried to replace the cord but the dryer still wouldn't work so I bought a brand new set. The delivery guys set it up but the dryer wouldn't heat up. Of course that wasn't their problem so I had to call an electrician and got lucky it was Evergreen Electric. It didn't take him an hour and he even had to run out to get a different electrical box because the one I bought was the wrong one. He didn't even charge me for his trip to Lowes. I could have easily gotten ripped off but he didn't. I'm a senior and female and have been without a dryer for 2 weeks waiting on this new set to arrive. $150. Thats all he charged. Not only did the dryer work as it should but it is definately hot. My neighbor got ripped off big time with other electricians so I really didn't know who to call. Being a senior I am on a fixed income too. I just wish i could post pictures be I am just so pleased with this company....honest and knows what they are doing and very affordable! Joe Downing-Electrician: Decent work as far as basic electrical goes, except for no written quote, the gouging we took at payment time, the 'thrown together' invoice that lacks any detail and was CLEARLY created to 'match the quote'. Had to ask multiple times just to GET the invoice, then it came through with a total, and that was all. Asked AGAIN for a detailed invoice and got a new one with two lines of info but suddenly the total was $1.40 still left owing. It is hard to make those number match when you have to 'manufacture' the invoice to match your verbal quote. Joe also used several of our tools, had to run for simple parts he should have had on board and then he left his mess behind. Then to cap it all off, Joe didn't tell us when the inspector was coming out, so we got a DENIAL from the county, as the inspector went out and nobody was there. And just for fun, the county is now charging an additional fee to come out again and JOE WANTS US TO PAY IT! What really chapped my ass was when he likened himself and his schooling to a DOCTOR. Yep, he did that. About spit my coffee all over my keyboard. I'm done here. read more

Joe installed a kitchen light and checked my wiring, cost me an arm and a leg. I had a porch light fixture a friend gave me that I wanted to install so he put it up - and it ended up crooked and leaning out like it would fall off if you blew on it. I asked him to come back and fix it and he told me I would need to buy a new fixture since it didn't have the correct brackets AND it would cost me more money. Why did he even install the porch light if that was the problem to begin with???!! Nope, no thanks. read more
