While I have no complaints with the products and the quality of the orthotics from Hangar Clinic itself it is this office that I have issues with. Since melanoma entered my life back in February I have gotten to see a variety of medical offices, probably more than anyone should have to. You get to see pretty quick who runs a good office, who has good staff and who doesn't have a clue. You have to learn this or our country's medical system will eat you alive. When I first entered this Hangar office I was happy to see that the staff was very friendly and eager to get back to walking again. I left feeling great about them and the direction my recovery was going. I was told about two weeks to get my new special shoes and the inserts that would allow me to walk again. As time went by and the two week period was approaching I was super excited and couldn't wait. The time came and passed with nary a word from this office. After a few days I called and asked what was up and basically no one knew. They said they would call me back that afternoon. The next day I called again, they said the shoe was back-ordered but the insert was there. A week later I called again and I was told, "Oh yes, the insert is finally here, the shoe has been there for a while." Huh? I went down and got fitted and decided to blow it off because I was walking! A week or so later it was apparent that I needed to modify the insert a little, it was hurting my foot. They got me in the next day, made some adjustments and it was better. I started to feel better. Fast forward another few weeks and my podiatrist was not happy with the insert and gave me a list of adjustments he wanted them to make, so I went in the next day to Hangar and they made the adjustments as best they could but they said it would be better if we started from scratch so we made a new mold of my foot and sent it off for a new insert that would in within two weeks. Two and a half weeks later I called to ask about the insert and no one knew anything, the gentleman who was handling my case was on vacation and I would have to wait. The day he was back I called, he was with a client and would call me back in a few hours. Three days later I called back again, no one knew anything. Finally, a week later, they were able to get my insert in. After that visit with no apology, no explanation about the snafu I decided that I will try a office on the other side of town near Legacy Hospital. Now I know why this office is in a basement. I hope that in the future they can get a better staff in there but I won't be back to see if that happened.

She always was laughing when he had to check her head. I was skeptical starting this process with a helmet, but the type of care that they provided made the experience so much better than I thought it could be and now my Baby has a beautiful circular head! I would recommend this place to my friends and family and if you need one, I would pick this place too and ask for Steve. He's so great with kids. They put the metatarsal padding in a place that makes no sense. I end up with calf and IT band pain that lasts at least the rest of the day. I've had excellent orthotics before - perfect fit. The first guy to make a hook for me was an old German fellow who shared an accent with Hermann Goering, and who's small workshop was full of plaster molds of shattered limbs, and their recreations, in various stages of completeness. Over the years, as with everything else, corporate holding companies have been quietly buying up the little independent prosthetics shops, and changing them to look and feel like a doctors office. You make an appointment, check in at the glass partitioned front counter, sit in a badly decorated waiting room until someone calls your name and takes you back to another room where you wait some more. Oregon Artificial Limb Company feels friendly when you walk in the door. There is no glass partitioned counter to report to; you don't need to take a number. The office door is open, and you just walk in. The office staff are very nice and helpful. My prosthetist of twenty-five years comes to the front and greets me by name. We chat a bit and catch up before getting down to business. My first time there, I was given a tour of the shop, introduced to all of the craftspersons, and shown all the ways they will customize my hook. I really like this place. I like the guys in the shop. Building a prosthetic is a craft. Each one is custom built to not only the needs but the lifestyle of each person, and the faceless corporate conglomerate does not lend itself to the inter-personal nature of the craft. Oregon Artificial Limb Company never turns anyone away because they can't pay. I like that too.
