I recently attended a event at this college, and I was really blown away with the facilities. It's a very nice college with a lot of buildings for almost all the departments. The place was really nicely kept and there were like a lot of walking areas throughout the campus. The amenities inside the buildings were also upgraded and top notch. overall, a very nice college with upgraded facilities. Evergreen Valley College is honestly a hidden gem in San Jose. The campus is super nice and recently remodeled, giving it a fresh and modern feel. One of my favorite parts about the area is Montgomery Hill right next to the school - it has great hiking trails with a beautiful overlook of the campus and the city of San Jose. Perfect for a morning walk or catching a sunset. A big highlight for me has to be the pickleball courts and community here. The courts are permanent, well-lit, and have a great social atmosphere. They are slightly on the thin side compared to standard courts, but definitely ATP-able and very playable. It's awesome to see a real pickleball community forming here. On top of that, Evergreen has nice fields for volleyball and soccer, so there's really something for everyone. Between the updated campus, outdoor spaces, and active sports scene, EVC makes for a great spot whether you're a student, an athlete, or just someone looking to enjoy the area. read more

Classes and instructors here are fine, but accessing help is abysmal. If you need to contact services like Counseling or Admissions & Records you will be on hold forever, will be transferred to several different departments, and in the end the person you were told to email or leave vm message with most likely never respond back to you. I have attended DeAnza, Foothill, and Skyline College and never had this many issues trying to get a hold of people in Financial Aid, Admissions & Records, or Counseling. The other schools has easy online systems to book appointments and when you called a person would pick up the call or call back when you left a vm message. Don't expect this at Evergreen. I had an issue with registering and was on hold with Admissions & Records for 52 minutes! Yes 52 MINUTES! I think that's pretty ridiculous. They really need to improve student access services. read more

I lost my rep from silver creek high school I stilll see alumni at the community college before, nothing to hide including my fears and try to take care my body more often and stick to blessings and going through dramatically misfortune times which haunts me still. I'm in dsp program diagnosed with mental since 2002 at 16 , but have not came back because I have not decided to sit down on the toilet and poop if I needed to. Also so much afraid of seeing new faces especially female college students, It seems desperately for me now if I did come back to I tried once here but poop was not out. I still think of my smelly butt ever now since 2002, where the situation got worst and worsen. I pretend I did not know this nor it happened. I have not taken any pe nor dance class and trying to stay away from my alumni if I see any. Luckily I got away with stage freight and won't decide to get a my major degree in English. Just trying to focus on two certificates at once, one at sjcc and one here for online learning only. I'm so afraid of seeing & approaching my hs alumni now at college gym nor Pokémon shop boba shop Target too. I'm glad I retired at 38 being a poor individual. My mom says there are many individual going undercover (yup I'm scared of FBI) Im trying to best prevent from being arrested or get sued from alumni. So many distractions that I couldn't bare to get my own gf. Seems other males are not boring to to different females. I felt I am no longer belong at two community one district because of the past. Yes I got my name called/insulted and was labeled as well as 'weirdo' , so many sc individuals still looking for college degree and I sacrifice my time to let them take over the females I recently comfortable in talking to. I had a great experience at EVC. I am older and decided to finally step it up and work on getting a degree. The school really helped guide me through the process and anytime I had a question or needed approval for something they were quick to respond and help me. They also had many online classes which was very convenient for me since I work and have kids. Diane was my main counselor and very helpful + encouraging. I truly enjoyed my time here and highly recommend them! I am about to transfer to CSUC very soon. Super excited and I was accepted to every university I applied to. Terrible. My daughter has spoken with multiple counselors and had to wait weeks in-between. None of them have helped her. They all say different things and pass the buck. I've had maybe 10 (or a little more) classes here, a few of them were pre-pandemic while I was getting a BS in another out of state college when I needed to take classes in the summers and a few post-graduate classes after 2019. The classes always transferred over to my college with very little to no issue. The website was consistent and reliable. After 2019 I noticed a few changes were made which were a little hard for me to adjust to without an advisor, but I eventually got it down on my own. I *really* don't like that it seems they gave my number to some military recruiters, but professors were always pretty good with the exception of one (far better than my SJCC experience), I generally was able to find people I needed to speak to if needed, they answer the phones or get back to you as promised, and the campus is quite nice. read more

What's more stressful than coming back to school for the first time after a year and a half online? Coming back to a campus that is under construction, has no working cafeteria, and a book store that has ran out of water bottles and no decent food. I was told that the store was operated by a different company and the cafe was as well, however, isn't it the job of the university to make use that these companies are doing their jobs properly? They told me to use the public water fountains, but I thought we were in a pandemic? Is there a reason why the water also doesn't taste like clean water? It feels like there's something in there. For the construction to occur when everything is coming back to In-person, it baffles me. A year and a half of students not being in person, and they decide to do it now? No one was even informed about their sudden construction for the large circle, we had to figure out how to get around the construction. I feel bad for the employees who lost their job in the cafe, but EVC has shown no effort in supplying students with a steady source of food. The bookstore is filled with just snacks and literally no other drink besides BANG and black coffee since almost EVERY drink is gone. They told me that the food truck will come every first and third monday of the month. Only two trucks come, better than none sure, but that doesn't solve the problem with the lack of food. I cannot wait to transfer out of this school. Threatening me for not returning their books when the library was closed down BECAUSE OF COVID was just the start of the problems. read more

I was asking for a refund for a parking permit and another lady said no one can help at that moment, she tells me to come back later and when I returned, the lady in the back who I've seen before says she can help like why didnt you say anything back then?! I asked her and she said she was on lunch at the time but why didnt you say somethin at the time? It looks so bad on you like you guys are just full of attitude and feel no need to help. Gosh, people who work at school need to be friendly and upbeat. If you're having a bad day, leave it at home. You're here to work as a professional. read more

Went here about five years ago, and then to a 4-year university afterwards. I can say without a doubt that the professors I had at EVC were more involved, cared more about my growth, and were more passionate about teaching than I have seen at any 4-year institution. If naive, hard-headed me from half a decade ago didn't have the attention that I received from my professors at EVC, I *definitely* wouldn't have gotten to where I am today. Besides that, I dropped by A&R today because I needed to pick up a transcript. Julie was the sweetest, the most positive, and hands down the most helpful person I could ask for. Here's how our dialogue went. Me: "Can I get an unofficial transcript?" Julie: "Unofficial or official?" Me: "They asked specifically for unofficial." Julie: "Let's also get you an official one because they'll ask for one eventually. It'll save you from coming back here later." --couple minutes pass by-- Julie: "Are you sending this out of state?" Me: "Yes." Julie: "Let's get you an official one in an envelope, and another one that you can scan. Because once it's out of the envelope, it's not official." BLESS. HER. SOUL. She knew the exact questions to ask and what to look out for so I didn't have to trek my way back to A&R during a work day to get another one or two transcripts. As you can see, my experience with EVC and their staff, from professors to administration, has been great, and I really wanted to share that on Yelp. read more

I pursued my undergrad education here for 3 years, and would highly recommend it to anyone on a budget--whether it be to transfer to a 4-year, get an Associate's, or to take a class for fun. With that said, I did all of the above, and out of the 30+ instructors I encountered while here, there were only a hand-full that I wouldn't recommend. I will say, however, that I got little to no help from the counselors while I was there, and ultimately ended up planning out my A.A. degree and classes I needed to successfully transfer on my own--which ended up working out well, thankfully. Besides the school itself, the grounds are beautiful, tucked away in the Evergreen Foothills. In fact, I just went back the other day to feed the ducks and noticed there was an entire family of TURTLES living in the pond also! It was so cute, but the ducks kept nipping at their heads when they'd try to grab a piece of bread...damn birds! Anyway, EVC worked out well for me. You get what you put into it, education-wise (pretty much like any school). It's also a great place for a jog or picnic, or apparently, to see some cute little turtles! read more

I am not a full-time student nor do I plan to transfer away from here. I attended EVC for summer 2016. I took an 8 week course and it was a complete disaster. I will share that this course has lecture and lab portion. I don't want to explicitly say the name, but if you really want to know.. we are the only 8 week course for the summer. Why was it so terrible? Lecture. - She never starts lecture on time. She shows up a few minutes late and begins to set up. Obviously she runs out of time and asks the entire class to stay a couple minutes late. She has terrible time management and accidentally spent the entire first day talking about Moodle instead of lecturing. - The exams are unclear. For instance let's say exam 1 is on chapters 1-3. Exam 2 on 4-6. She only touched on half of chapter 3 by the exam 1 date and decided to continue teaching there rest afterwards. If I didn't ask, I wouldn't have known chapter 3 will be tested as well. - When it became clear that she was behind on lecture, I asked what we would be tested on in the final. She claimed that she could finish 3 chapters in 2 days. Ended up asking us to read and be ready. Lab - She never started lab on time. On the first few days she was always a few minutes late, sometimes 15 minutes. When we started having lab reports due, she would make them late if she happens to be on time. - Lab is 3 hours. She lectures for a whole hour and says "I hope you all have enough time for the lab." - Inconsistent rules. One time a student missed quiz and she let them take it without penalty. But another student showed up 2 minutes late and she took 2 points off. - Generalizes students with the whole class. I didn't show work for an assignment because I did everything in my head. She thought I copied it off the Internet. - Blames students for her faults. We had an assignment that required her constant signature. My lab table was barely halfway done when class ended because she kept circling around another table. A classmate was outraged and left 5 minutes early since we already sat around for an hour. The instructor claimed it's the student's fault for 'leaving too early.' read more

I honestly have no complaints about this school except that maybe the counselors could be a BIT more helpful seeing as how students come to them seeking uh... COUNSEL. Everything else is great. Classrooms are in great condition. Plenty of selections for classes. Teachers are wonderful (just make sure to use rate my professor). Food is pretty decent and not overly priced. There are more than enough parking for everyone. Definitely a plus that there is a police station on campus and they patrol often. I love that I don't need to take a freeway in order to get to this school AND it's located right next to a cute little plaza with Pizza My Heart, Iguanas, Starbucks, etc. read more

How can I not have good things to say about the school where I didn't take my education seriously and failed horribly only to turn things around and finish. It's true, Evergreen isn't highly rank in comparison to other community colleges, but that shouldn't stop you from attending here if the program you want is offered here or you are looking to transfer. Why travel out of the way? Besides, Evergreen allows for a more "intimate" campus since it doesn't seem to be as crowded as the more popular colleges. It's not so busy and hectic being around commercial areas and businesses. It's surrounded by million dollar homes which many forget IS IN THE EAST SIDE yet people only see the east side as the ghetto area on tully/king. Anyways, I've had great teachers here. The campus is clean, not so crowded, or feel too small. If I had to give criticism it's the difficulty in trying to speak to a counselor. You really have to put work/effort to speak to one. You have to pay attention to the sign up sheets and the schedule etc. Other than that, If you are going for transfer or a program is offered here, do not hesitate. No need to travel across town to do the same thing. read more

Classes are pretty hard to find due to clear campus maps not being available and professors like Vu should not be given difficult subjects to instruct since most of his students are unable to interpret his teaching style very well. The counseling department is not run in a very organized fashion but the counselors themselves are very helpful from my experience. None of the parking permit machines work or you have to drive all the way to the other end of the parking lot in order to actually find one without a printing problem. I like EVC, even more than DeAnza. The teachers are great and everything. The only downside, the oh so super rude receptionists at the counseling office. I dread going to the counseling office because of them. They are moody, grumpy, self-righteous, and uncaring. You work at a counseling office, please show you care about the students who are obviously in there because they need help. They don't need your condescending remarks and attitude. The particular day I went, the two receptionist (I don't know their names, one was Asian, the other Caucasian) were so rude and snappy. YES, we know that we have to check in if we want to see a counselor. NO, we aren't just in here to get away from the heat, there are much better places to do that than with those two. They were really just so rude and talked about the students that were waiting (including myself) while we were there as if we weren't there. There are enough people in life who like to put people down. Maybe its because they need to make themselves feel better or whatever. But if you work in a community college, in a low income area where there are students who work hard just to go to school and you work in the COUNSELING department (even if you are just a receptionist), you need to leave that attitude at home. read more

I've attended here for three years, graduated with an AA in Chemistry and transferring to a UC. It was an amazing experience. There are accessible professors, some kind administrators, and definitely opportunities to be more active on campus. I must admit, it was a struggle to find the most suitable transfer counselor here, but ask for Miss Bettencourt! She'll help you transfer fast and she won't stop you from overloading in units if you know you can handle it. You can always drop the classes before you get a "W" on your transcript! BE AS ACTIVE ON CAMPUS AS YOU CAN! Honestly, it will be really easy to find something that you'll like to do on campus. From Associated Students Government, to your own special interest clubs (English Majors, Honors, Phi Theta Kappa Honors, Pre-Meds, Nursing, Pacific Islanders Club, whatever!). It won't be that competitive to find a leadership role you'll like and commit to. As long as you are genuine about your interests in that group, it will happen. Great school for Math classes (definitely), History, GE classes etc. Not impacted like DeAzna College. Some General Biology, Engineering Physics, and General Chemistry classes are a bit tougher on this campus, but luckily San Jose City College is the sister school. So you have two schools worth of classes to look at. ALWAYS ALWAYS look into programs you could join. There's a lot of support on campus like tutoring, easier access to counselors, priority registration etc. It will only help you in the long run. Some programs do offer scholarships to students only in their program too. A few programs to name: EOPS, Honors Institute, FasTrack, ASPIRE, AFFIRM etc. Parking is NEVER a problem. Yes, you might have further parking on the first few weeks of each semester, but usually gets better as the semester progresses. FYI, there are two main entrances into the school. It's easier to park at the back entrance since there are about 3-4 parking lots at the back. ALSO, if you have a night class, you should repark around 5 for closer parking. 6PM is the busier time to park. read more

After spending many years here, and finally getting to transfer out to UC, I must say it was not really a memorable experience. There were many times that people hit my car with their doors or backed out and hit me and just drove away, how nice right? Luckily I drive a beater so I don't care. There are a lot of old vietnamese people attending here. After talking to a lot of them, it seems that ALMOST, not all, almost all of them are there for the financial aid. I guess they do not have anything better to do, but whatever. If you're Vietnamese, they will try to ask you to help them in ALL of their classes, because they arent there to learn, they are there so they can get a little bit of money. Good thing i'm not a pushover, and I can easily say no, but I saw many people help them then complain because honestly who wants to help them just so they can sit in another class and do nothing? The student government is a joke to me, probably because I never really heard anything from them or about them until it was waaaaay too late for me to participate in anything. sorry hun. If you need to take calculus based physics, I recommend Dr. Vu, but I must warn you, it's a very difficult class and you will not get a good grade without serious studying, but you will learn a lot more than the other physics professors, believe me on that one. So if it actually matters to you what you learn, take Vu. I did 5 years here. I have enough units for a bachelors. :( Free science and math tutoring, as well as other departments. Sorry to say, but a lot of dumb or lazy student trying to copy and cheat, but I just ignore them. 4 Stars because the engineering department is amazing. Yes, it's true - most of your teachers will treat you like 8th graders, even more are so burnt out from the system that they no longer care, some are certified crazy, but others are simply passionate about teaching and amazing. I know this isn't rate my professor, but if it wasn't for Teck Ky I am positive I wouldn't be moving on to bigger and better things this coming year. If you're like me, and math isn't your thing, take Ky! Trust me! Administration and Financial Aid can be a major pain! Stay on top of your business and hopefully you won't have to deal with them too much. Don't waste your $$ buying your books in the bookstore, it's a huge waste of money. You're likely much better off buying them for dirt cheap online or renting them from a place like Chegg. .... and parking. Yes, parking will suck the first few weeks of the semester, but once all the community college dropouts finally drop out, it becomes quite manageable. I love this school! I've been going here for a few years and it's been a long time coming. I'm finally graduating in May all thanks to the wonderful staff/faculty, especially in the English department. They have a really awesome library system and vast amounts of books that you can check out from EVC or its sister-school, SJCC. I love EVC because you don't have to fight crowds, care about popularity or any other high school drama that happens at SJCC. There's a vast amount of parking. Good counselors are hard to come by; however, I recommend that you join a club like AFFIRM/ENLACE where those clubs specifically have one counselor assigned and can be your go-to counselor. I joined AFFIRM and Caritha Anderson was my counselor. She is awesome and I highly recommend you see her. Classes are small as you continue to get inter your major. I personally love this school because it cares about its students. They try to work with you as best as possible. Although I've moved to Palo Alto, I still make the drive here just because of its great campus. Lots of green scenery, plenty of help. Happy to be a part of this school. read more

I had a question about my financial aid status and she made me sound as if I'm dumb and as if she was annoyed or something. The last time I went into the office the ladies there were all doing nothing and seriously it took them 15 minutes to stop the talking and help me out. I figure if you give them attitude back they would screw me over with financial aid so I had to be on my best behavior but seriously I would've blew up on these rude ass staff's! School is nice but parking sucks. 7-7:45am close parking and park where ever 8:00-9:10am all close parking gone 10:30-45am haha you'll have to park far and you're lucky if you can find someone walking and take their closer parking. 12:00-12:30pm people usually are getting out of school, and parking is sort of free but lot is traffic. 1:00-whenever... You can find parking like nothing! Other than the gay parking situation. Evergreen is okay, not ghetto. But school is school. read more

A lot of them relate to the students and encourage them in their education. Only problems here would be the lack of safety and security. Fall semester of 2013 was extremely bad with locker and car theft. Definitely recommend keeping all your valuables with you or under a watchful eye here. EVC was easy because it's just a step up from high school. I can slack off for two weeks and still easily get an A or a B. If I get a C- for a final grade, it automatically gets rounded to a C because it's a community college. The library is very quiet. There are tables with outlets for you to plug your laptop in. This college has Wi-Fi on its campus. There are plenty of parking spaces, so I don't see why someone should complain about it. The campus police are picky and will write you a ticket for parking in the wrong direction and for other little things. The food in the cafeteria sucks period, and it's overpriced. I rather go eat at McDonalds or eat at home before coming here. The burgers are soggy! Yuck! Some professors here are cool and can learn a lot from them, and there are some that are just straight off BORING! Use ratemyprofessor.com because it really helps. Half of the Administrative staff members are friendly if you treat them right. There are only a few, who look like they already have a bad day before they even start their day, and they should be avoided. You should just register for classes online because it's easy and don't have to wait in a long line at the Administrative office. If you're one of those people, who goes to the Administrative office to register for classes every semester, I would recommend to you is to write out your schedule on a piece of paper -- and have back up classes ready on-the-spot to replace your existing ones in case if the class you wanted got full, before you go there. There are people, who do this but haven't planned out their schedule and take freaking forever to register for classes at the counter. As for transcripts, I don't remember if you have to pay a fee to request them, but I know they can get lazy with them if you don't pay an addition rush fee. It's better to pay the rush fee, and then pick them up the next day instead of waiting a couple of days to pick them up for free. If you need these to transfer to a university, you should -- pay the rush fee. The EOPS office is fantastic, and I had no issues with them. I had my Counselor with them too. The Financial Aid office is okay. Sometimes, I submit papers for them to be filled out that were required for living in a low-income apartment, a staff would tell me, and "Comeback tomorrow and it'll be filled out." I come the next day in the morning and it's not filled out. The staff finally tells me, "Comeback in the afternoon." I comeback in the afternoon... and now, it's filled out! No doubt about buying books from the book store is expensive. Sometimes buying online is cheaper and sometimes it's not. If you want to save money, you could also rent books. The bookstore is okay. The major con of this bookstore is I have to take off my backpack and placed into the backpack area. Everyone has to do it. If someone mistakenly takes your backpack, then you're screwed. The book buyback is much better than the buyback at San Jose State University. At EVC, I bought my business law book for $210 and sold it back to the book in its like-new condition for about $170. I think this school is decent and I've had some really cool teachers. My favorite professors would have to be J. Rohal for art F. Espinoza for sociology B. Carothers for human sexuality/psych Gonzalez for environmental science Those are just the professors and classes that stood out to me. The counselors on the other hand are just OK. If you try calling to ask a question or maybe setup an appointment, they will not pick up! I was trying to sign up for a UC transfer workshop where sign up was required so I called the office 4 times and left 2 messages and received no response. However, I decided to simply look up Elaine and Beverly's email addresses since they were hosting the workshop and email them for info and sign up instead. Beverly quickly emailed me back, and she was the one who hosted the workshop I went to. She is so nice and sweet! So I directly email her whenever I have a quick question about school or transferring. Her name is Beverly Stewart so go to her if you can. The other counselors I've had I can't even remember their names, but they all have different types if counseling. Some will be really nice, patient, and encouraging while others although helpful are a tad mean and condescending. Like one counselor asked me why I took so many art classes and I said " cuz I thought I was gonna be an art major" and she said "it was a waste of time." Like okayyyyyy. And I asked this other counselor if I really needed to take these courses this other counselor told me to take and she said "calm down why are you so frantic" then continued to tell me that I had the wrong perception on how to go about things and to do it this Way or that this is how things really go. Like damn my bad lady, I don't know how things really go because other counselors are telling me wrong things! And I've been basing things on what it says on an IGETC paper, and what it says online. Anywho, as for the computer lab techs they suck. They're mean and if you ask for help they'll look at you like they hate you and you're retarded. And you only have 2 hrs to use the computer before they start charging you. Parking is ok but in the front of the school it's mountain lion habitat. And one time I came out of my night class around 940 and I parked near the library and there was two coyotes walking around my car! No one else was in the lot with me either so I was scared as shit! I have been going to EVC for two years to upgrade my education and I have to say that everyone is very helpful, the teachers care about the students, and it is easy to get passing grades. This school has lots of programs to help its students with whatever needs they have. The school offers scholarships every year. (I won four last year!) The parking is easy, the campus is small, and the classes are numerous. They have a great selection of courses to take and counselors to help you meet your educational goals. I really love going to EVC...good choice right now while San Jose State is turning away prospective students. read more

I've heard many students with crappy counselors and teachers as well. personally, i like mrs. bettencourt the counselor. she's very personable and she makes you feel welcomed, unlike a few other's i have came across (i.e., c. khan, h. le). the best psychology professor there will be mr. b. carothers. if you have the chance take his human sexuality class. it is an eye opener and he literally knows how to educate and make almost all the info stick in your head. with all assignements, he allows you to turn it in to him early to look it over and gives you a chance to improve it as many times as you'd like to get a better grade. the psych of women class with m. clark is a good one too. she is passionate with what she teaches, and what she knows. parking does suck. and there isnt a free parking lot anymore. oh yeah. park your car correctly or you will be cited for parking all types of wrong. lol read more

Evergreen is just OK. Its a pretty dead school with no excitement. I only go there because I live close by. Its convienient but if I didnt live close by I wouldnt have gone to this school. Teachers are ok too. read more

I use the campus for the hilly running trails in the back. I do not take classes here but I do like to run here or fly a kite in the giant open field they have. Unless the guy is in the field flying his gas powered airplanes, then flying a kite is hard to do. The running trail in the back of the campus is very nice. I would not run it alone if I was a women just because a lot of the trail is unseeable from any streets. All in all I recommend this place for group runs or those looking for wide open space. read more

I took an English Literature course here about 10 years ago or more and it was pretty good. Berkeley accepted it for my major there. My teacher was nice, competent and let me tape her course so I could listen to it in my car. It is not the most beautiful campus in the world but there is plenty of parking unlike DeANZA. They also just did a big upgrade of several buildings to modernize it because I just had to go back and request a transcript recently and I saw the changes. It is all concrete there though. No trees for shade so expect to bake, especially in the summer. I have gone to West Valley, Foothill, SJCC, SMC and Evergreen I would rate Evergreen 4th out of five as far as experience. The staff was very helpful for me whenever I needed anything so I give them an A for smiles and knowledge. If you live in the East Valley and are looking for a school, don't go to SJCC, go here.
