Their football team had an arrangement with my FIL to rent out our adu units, the players did extensive damage to the units. Continuously used drugs inside the units, attempted to break and enter into the main house into our room with women they invited over. They held a party with over 700 people while my father in law was out of town and did over 70,000 in damages to the pool house and the adu units. I have never come across such disrespectful persons whom use drugs inside a rented property, we have countless photos and evidence. Their behavior was downright deplorable and many never paid a dime! Having gone to 3 community college's (SJCC, De Anza, and this one) Foothill gets my vote for best of the 3 and probably best in the Bay Area. It has a few advantages over its sister school De Anza that make it in my opinion, the superior option: 1. Class registration: Unlike De Anza where classes fill up instantly, Foothill fills up slow as molasses. Popular subjects such as Biology, Chemistry, English, Math, and Physics all fill up ridiculously fast at De Anza. At Foothill, I never had any trouble registering for these classes. You will get all of your classes at Foothill if you sign up for classes on your registration date, which can't be said for De Anza. 2. The professors: I've taken classes in the biology, chemistry, kinesiology, and sociology departments and all of the professors that I had were great! They were all experts in their respective fields, and wanted all of us to succeed. As long as you are a mature and responsible student, you should do fine. 3. Online class options: If you compare the 2 schools, Foothill offers almost 2x the number of hybrid and online classes then De Anza. This makes it much more convenient to take classes since its location in Los Altos may not be the most ideal for most of its commuting students. 3. Student population: The difference is night and day. Most of the students that I encountered at De Anza were young and fresh out of high school, so they seemed a bit immature and juvenile. Foothill's students on the other hand, tended to be older and more mature, allowing for a more academically oriented student body. I've had more engaging and thought provoking conversations with the students at Foothill then I have at De Anza. 4. The campus: I like that the campus is uphill and not flat; it forces me to get some much needed exercise. Since there aren't that many students on campus, it makes it much easier to navigate and find your way around all of the different buildings. Parking is something that you will have to get used to since it isn't very straightforward. The only negative I can say about Foothill is that there isn't really much school spirit present. Most students go to school and then leave campus to go to work or home. This is 1 area that I feel De Anza has the upper hand in if you are looking for activities to do on campus. Overall, Foothill college is the best community college to attend in the Bay Area if you are looking to get a certificate, transfer, or just to take some interesting classes for the fun of it. You should have no issues getting into the classes that you need, saving you from the headache of waitlists and delays in your education. It's amazing how this college (and I guess other colleges) have programs given by instructors that has a total unorganized material and very limited feedback. Some teachers don't have office hours or a (incredible) no link for a Zoom meeting for their online classes. It's all about getting government money and giving degrees to students to get a job. I'm sure some teachers care but the college itself couldn't care less. Government money is what counts here. Want to really learn? Work your as$ off and go to Europe where you will at the end pay the same - Germany has free (or very cheap) tuition for graduate degrees for foreigners - taught in English. And you go to "rate my teacher' website and you'll see repetitive reviews about the same teacher from students - and colleges couldn't care less. Those teachers will continue their crappy teaching 'methods' while milking - like the colleges - on the gov tit$. read more

The campus is quiet nice, plenty of facilities, with a huge swimming pool (maybe Olympic-size), very nice library, clinic, etc. My only complaint is the small gym, it's probably good for at most 10 people at a time, and they charge $95 for 3 months membership. If you go visit, make sure you find visitor parking but they are not free, it's $3 a day otherwise you get a sad parking ticket. read more

My husband has had THE WORST experience at Foothill. THEY ARE A SCAM A FREAKING SCAM A WHOLE SCAM. My husband was suppose to be a graduating senior. He had Dean Carolyn Brown tell him he was able to take a class (MDIA 30) in substitution for another class (GID58) in order to graduate. With email confirmation, the media class was approved by Carolyn Brown and he was approved to take the class. He passed said class with an A+. He did what was told by faculty member, and then waited for them to do their part. Unfortunately, he was given wrong information by faculty (which is surprising considering this is they're professional job, so I would expect they know what they're talking about) and he had needed to fill out a form he never knew about. Then, after finding out he needed a form, Dean Carolyn Brown retires. After finding this information out, Foothill College has taken NO action to rectify the situation. They told him to take a class he didn't need to take, made him pay for it, and then not offer a refund when they change their mind after the fact. I SMELL SCAMMERS. Then my husband goes to talk to other faculty members to get help and ends up talking to Ron Herman. I went with my husband to this meeting he had with Ron. During this meeting, Ron stated that it didn't matter the circumstances of anything really but since another faculty member had already approved the class, he (as well as Jordan Fong who has been the only one who knows how to do their job apparently) would go ahead and sign off on the course substitution form. My husband made sure to ask multiple times, double, triple, quadruple checking that it DID NOT matter that the course he took in substitution didn't cover the same material as the required class since Carolyn Brown had already approved everything. After confirming this with Ron that he and Jordan Fong would approve the course substitution, everything was fine and he was seeing a positive outcome in this shit situation they put him in for not knowing their profession. Then days after the meeting Ron Herman sends an email to him completely lying about what he said at the meeting and saying all different information. Now he has to take a class he was told he didn't have to take, and paid for a class for he didn't even need and Foothill has done NOTHING to make what they did right, to rectify the situation. I find it genuinely embarrassing for the faculty members to be saying things left and right that aren't true when this is their literal job. If they don't know the answer to a question, don't give a bullshit answer and lead people on a freaking witch hunt for nothing. My husband completed all his requirements and did EXACTLY what FACULTY members told him to do, and they're still screwing him over. I hope they study up on their profession and think before they give students answers about handling their college career and making them pay for stuff. read more

I love Foothill! I am currently 3 quarters in, and I wouldn't change JC's for anything! The campus is clean, green, and I love that it's not overly crowded. Thus far, I have nothing but great things to say about the professors. They are helpful, engaging, and want you to succeed. To-date, I have had no problems with obtaining the classes that I need, even my sciences! What I WILL say is this: If you've never been to the campus, take an hour or so and walk grounds. There are many hills, stairs, and parking lots. Buildings are spread out and if you're just heading on-campus for the first time on your first day of class, you're likely to get lost (or park just WAY too far). KNOW WHERE YOUR CLASSROOMS ARE BEFOREHAND! You'll thank me later. If you're looking for medical training, this is your campus. If you're looking for lush surroundings, you should absolutely be here! Aside from having one of the finest acting conservatories in the country, Foothill College is the perfect package for anybody, not just kids new to college, to take classes. They offer day and night courses, weekend classes, adult education courses, sports, and online classes. Their curriculum is challenging, but the instructors really love their jobs and it shows in their caring and committed teaching. TIP: If you love theatre, audition for their two-year conservatory program. It's the best education you can get for the money. My friend said he learned more at the Conservatory than he did after he transferred to Juilliard. TIP #2: Spend your first two years at Foothill and then transfer to another college. It'll save you big money, you'll get a great education and it's easier to get into schools as a transfer student than a Freshman. read more

The Disabled Recourse center is unreliable. The counselors mislead me when I ask them about graduation requirements. Some have said that I didn't need a major to graduate and others said that I do need one. Classes that are required to graduate always get cancelled or are not offered. Then I decided to go and show up in person and I think the person who I talked to, was same woman that was on the phone. She was in a very bad attitude and didn't help in my problem to enroll. Finally I kind of got to register but the price was so expensive (because of a non resident tuition fee) and the woman told me the price would be waived and I that I had to wait 4 hours because the system would change it automatically. 3 days passed and nothing changed. I went again to the school and brought all my documents to prove my residency and avoid those non resident tuition fee... she wouldn't even want to look at them and again she talked almost yelling at me. What's the point of being like that?? She should not be working there, otherwise the school will be empty in some years... hopefully she is not there. And things should change for better. read more

I would give it a negative 10 if I could but these foothill counselors are not helpful AT ALL. I attended my freshman year here and took the classes I needed in order to transfer to UC Davis.... or so I thought. The year I was supposed to transfer, the counselor I had talked to claimed that I was not able to transfer since I was not taking the right classes even though I took the classes that the counselor has recommended to me! It was frustrating because they had wasted my time and made me focus on classes that I didn't even need! On top of this, I was trying to get my transcript to transfer to another school but the counselors have never replied to my emails and never forwarded my transcript. Please take my advice and SAVE YOUR TIME and do not attend this school since these counselors don't even know how to do their job right. read more

If you're taking distance learning classes somewhere, you're most likely going to be looking for a proctor for your mid-term and final exams. I'm currently taking Harvard University Extension Classes (thou shalt not judge), so when a classmate from San Jose mentioned this place, I added it to the (initially) long list. After looking around, you will usually find that most of the established nation-wide testing centers (like Prometric) charges you between $50-$100 an hour. This one not only charges you $25/hour, but they actually base it on the time you took to complete your exam.. occasionally discounting the additional few minutes if you spent a total of 2:08 for two exams. Follow the steps on their website, forward the information to your college, then use their automated e-scheduling (http://www.servicebuzz.com/selfscheduler/1309739351). When you get there, look for Lot 8 and head straight to the Student Services Building and then up the stairs to Room 8202 before proceeding to Room 8213. Be patient when dealing with the administration staff. They may snap at you if you pull out your cellphone in the waiting area or (in the case of some other students I met at the center) forget what you're doing there because of the amount of people traffic in and out of the place. Remind them..... Either way, the job gets done for less than you'll probably end up paying elsewhere. IMO, that's enough to warrant an "A." read more

I have been trying to sign up for a class but my registration date is always late. I take classes here at Berkeley City College and want to sign up for a program. But I have to pass the pre req at foothill college in order to sign up for the program. Whenever I talk to a counselor or the teacher for the class, they say the same thing. "Try to get on the waitlist" "The class usually gets full fast". How can I ever take this class? By the time my registration date comes, the class is full. This happened to me multiple times this year. Now I have to wait a whole year again until the next program date I can sign up for. read more

Compare to other community colleges in the nearby area, Foothill college seems to be more academic focused than others. A few noteworthy things about Foothill college: 1) This campus does offer A MULTITUDE OF ONLINE CLASSES. Have you ever heard of Online Calculus courses. Foothill offers those for Math 1A AND MATH 1B. They also offer statistics online, some computer programming classes online, electrical engineering, drawing classes and other classes that are usually only taught in person. 2) Borrowing Ti-84 Graphing Calculators: The school library also allows you to borrow Ti-84 graphing calculators and Ti-30 graphing calculators for the WHOLE ENTIRE QUARTER. They let you keep it for 12 weeks and if you need it again for another quester you can just renew the rental agreement. 3) If you are a STEM major you will feel a lot of support from the facilities that your classes are held at and the tutors that are available for you. A cafe is 1-3 minute walking distance from most of the STEM classrooms. 4) The tutors are also retired or current Professors from different community colleges. I prefer these kinds of professor over student tutors because they know how to communicate information through a Professor's perspective and tone. 5) They really do try to make the campus as social as possible by having events every Wednesday in the center of the campus. These events are hard to miss as you will walk by them once in a while. It is nice to see a community college trying to incorporate students and lighten up the moods of their students. 6) Borrowing Textbooks from the Library: This school's library has textbooks that you can rent up to 24-HOURS. If you rent 24-HOUR books on Friday, you get to keep them for the entire weekend. This make saving money on textbooks as a possibility because I didn't have to buy all my textbooks for my classes. You can also rent more than one book at a time Overall a really great learning environment to choose out of the community colleges nearby. read more

Horrible college centered around profiting instead of inspiring and helping their students progress. Staff is rude and uncooperative; they will not help you resolve problems, but instead ping pong you back and forth from one department to the other. Getting a straightforward answer is practically impossible, even after filing petitions etc. To top it off, counselors are short tempered, rude, and will not help you with any other questions that are not under "their scope of practice". When you ask for further assistance, they get flustered and tell you to take it up with the dean. I definitely do not recommend going here. read more

I made a last minute decision to attend a community college after high school, and I chose Foothill because the classes I needed were available. Now, as a transfer student who just finished her last quarter here, I can say I'm satisfied with everything this school has provided me with. If you're a STEM major, you'll definitely feel a little spoiled here. The facility is new and the equipment is up to date. The rest of the campus, although a little older, is still nice - spacious, green, peaceful and quiet. It's like going to school at a park. Parking can be a drag because the different lots are connected by a one-way road that loops around campus. If you miss your lot, settle for the next one or drive around again (this only sucks when you're late and end up running to class because you parked so far). Always have a permit because the blue uniform people are strict & they WILL give you a ticket...$45 down the drain. Oh and be prepared for lots of stairs. The school is on a hill. Fun stuff. There's definitely a stigma that community college is easy. From my own experience, Foothill wasn't. Operating on a 12-week quarter system, the quarter flies by and before you know it, it's finals week. The professors, at least the ones I've had, are difficult but knowledgeable in their fields of study, and you can tell they genuinely care about the education of their students (still make sure to check ratemyprofessor). Need tutoring? There's Pass the Torch and the PSME center that holds multiple workshops throughout the week, which are run by professors. The PSME is open late during weekdays, and they're even occasionally open on Saturdays. The only reason I docked off a star is because their counseling appointments fill up fast. There have been times where I've tried to schedule an appointment, and counselors were booked for the next 2 weeks. When I DID get an appointment, however, the counselors were helpful and experienced. Overall, I can't say that I'll miss Foothill a whole lot (especially my ridiculously far commute), but that doesn't mean I'm not thankful for it. I have never been more disappointed in a school in my entire life...and I've been to a LOT of them. I don't have the time to put in a proper review of this place, so let me tell you a quick story to help you understand. My friend has gotten all of her prerequisites for the Vet Tech program here. We are moving out of state so that she can go to Vet Tech school ANYWHERE BUT HERE. What an absolute power-trip shit show. This program is what happens when there are no competing schools in the area. I went to DeAnza for 5 years (I had a lot of prerequisites and went to nursing school there too) and I absolutely loved it. Because of the budget cuts, there wasn't enough staff to go around, but they were invested in your success. Every office that I ever went in to there, they wanted to help. If there were student workers, they cared too! The teachers were passionate and qualified. PLEASE...there are some stellar teachers at Foothill (ANY math class with Pat Morris) and there are a few folks that want to help you, but the overwhelming majority do not. DO NOT have any interaction with anyone in the Vet Tech Program. I'm convinced that they couldn't hack it in the industry, so they decided to come here to ride out their time. read more

I genuinely love this college. While it can be difficult to meet people and make friends, the effort required is definitely worth it. The school has a diverse student body who come from all walks of life. I would recommend joining a club, the Ambassador program, or student government (ASFC) in order to meet more people and get more involved. I've had good teachers for the most part. You definitely need to use ratemyprofessor.com though in order to avoid having a bad professor. The cafeteria is OKAY...it's nothing exciting. It's also expensive for what you're getting. The cafes (KJs) have delicious coffee that is priced pretty much the same as Starbucks. The campus is beautiful (since it's located in Los Altos Hills). Smoke free campus. If I could go back in time, I wouldv'e gone here instead of De Anza. Took a few science classes here. The science teachers over here are way better than at De Anza. Foothill also seems very peaceful and spread out. Whenever I go on campus, it's like I'm at a huge park. The scenery is gorgeous! Also, it's not overpacked like De Anza. At Foothill, I rarely see people in between classes. I feel like I'm the only one there as opposed to De Anza where I felt like I was in high school, and you see large amounts of people everywhere, people surrounding you everywhere. Oh cool, I can write a review on colleges? Well I've exhausted my restaurant reviews so I guess this is a nice change. Anyhow... Foothill's the next best thing to a 4-year university, maybe even better than some in terms of academics and provided facilities. Pros: -The teachers here are world-class, most come from either prestigious backgrounds or are extremely competent in other aspects. Most, if not all, teachers will go out of their way to help you and respond promptly via e-mail as well. -The library is my hangout; I barely have time to do anything but homework these days and the library is awesome for that. They have a section that enforces silence strictly with individualized desks, power outlets, and internet access. I have also wandered around the sections picking up a few interesting books along the way. Foothill definitely supplies you with what you need to succeed. -The honors program is really professional; they have regular meetings and distinct sections apart from the regular student body. These are not the typical honors courses which only require you to write a paper or a make up a few extra assignments. This is the real deal. You're in a room full of the school's brightest collection of intellectuals. Most of your peers will move on to big Ivy leagues, brand name state universities, or even the local giant Stanford. The honors program is my home, I felt like the people in this program were smart, but were absolutely genuine and down-to-earth. Definitely join it if you're into people with generally more substantial goals and interests, no offense. -Small classes -Beautiful campus; plenty of nature, bamboo garden, hills, facilities etc. -Cheap, $17/unit, most books are on websites like Amazon and Ebay too. Cons: -Some teachers are extremely stubborn; I got a B- in English for the first time in quite a few years... Unfortunately, I didn't agree with him on many topics, him leaning unforgivingly towards a liberal ideal. It sucks big time when your professor dictates over such a relative field such as English; justifying a bad score on an essay is so damn easy. -Honors program doesn't supply enough course choices for the science majors. Sure, they got a bunch of random classes like Contemporary European History or Photography or Music, but for a pre-med major like me, it's pretty useless. The school offers Physics and Calculus D as credit...but I'm never going to get that high within 2 years. Unless you're an engineering major, have extensive AP credits, or are a sadistic genius, you won't touch Physics as a pre-med until Junior or Senior year along with the 4th series in Calculus. -Small classes also mean competitive spacing. I was dropped on the first day because my personal e-mail wasn't registered to my school account. Apparently, the e-mail I used to pay for my units wasn't obvious enough... I swear. -School had a major commuter vibe, everyone was gone past 3 pm. Go to school, then go home. You can be active I guess and join student government...wasn't really for me though. Clubs are dull too, more than half of them are inactive or awkward to say the least. All-in-all, great school. I felt challenged but supported at the same time. They really want you to succeed, and most of the cons aren't really the school's fault, rather the fault of poor individuals. I totally recommend this place, I'm taking a 20 unit load which only cost me about $400-500 including books (use amazon, ebay, craigslist and you'll save so much). I wouldn't even be able to pay off a quarter at Davis let alone books with $400-500! Not to mention I'm getting all my classes =] However...I really have to ponder for the lack of literate smokers at such an excellent academic facility...they all smoke by the "No Smoking" sign. Foothills offers a decent variety of evening classes for those who want to occupy their lonely evenings. The ones I took are for fun including: Watercolor, Voice, Ballroom Dancing, Chinese, Ceramics, Tennis. (wow i'm lonely. haha). The best part is the tuition. It is CHEAP! Compared to the county arts and recreation classes, you pay less and get more from a community college like Foothills. If you are on the main campus, be prepared with $2 in hand for parking each time. If you are on the Middlefield campus, no need. The quality of the teachers, in all honestly, are mediocre. They are nice but I question some of their qualifications. Then again, if I wanted quality education, I should trot on over to Stanford, who will, in turn, slam the door in my face. I'll continue attending Foothills College (unless the dean reads this and blacklisteds me). Dang. read more

Going to community college after university is kind of a shock; you realize how ridiculously and unnecessarily hard some professors can be at university (or how easy some community college professors are). I enjoyed all my classes at Foothill, and my teachers were great. The campus is so beautiful and is super easy to get to right off of 280. I always took evening classes so parking was never a problem and the parking permit is like 250x cheaper than the permit i had at Davis. going back to school can be a chore, especially when you've been out for a few years, but foothill college makes it pretty easy. compared to the other community colleges in the bay area, Foothill seems to be the nicest and has a great selection of classes. read more

I went here because there was a Pokémon Go Community Day in February. A bunch of us parked and went to the campus to play. I looked around and didn't see any parking signs or meters. I previously used to play at History Park in San Jose and always paid at the meter, even though no one checked. When my friends and I got back to our cars, we all got tickets. I tried to appeal my ticket and there's no way to check if they approved your request or denied it online. So then I tried calling their number and eventually it hung up on me after waiting on hold for so long. This campus is stealing money from good people and I'll never come here again. read more

Beautiful campus. I get a workout walking up and down the hills. Counselor during drop-in hours were helpful. Go early in the morning, otherwise you'll end up waiting over an hour for a 10 minute session. I went in to clear my pre-reqs, and when I got home 30 minutes later, my pre-reqs were cleared and I was able to add my class. Took a pharmacology class here. Excellent instructor. Amazing campus and fantastic faculty (for the most part). The real shame is the administration. I worked in student gov't for about 2 years and the administration seems the bane of students and faculty alike. I hear things have only gotten worse with their new president. That said, this is the top-ranked community college (anyone who calls it a junior college deserves an earful) in the state and, for overall quality of education, it ranks high up there with some of the top UCs (not just my opinion...I've heard numbers). Parking can be a pain, but the walk up the hill was a good workout. Even after transferring to a 4-year university for a degree, Foothill is my alma mater. read more

This is not the best community college I've attended (that would be JCCC near Kansas City), nor the worst (West Valley, WTF is your problem ?), but it will do for now. Nevermind that it's 12 miles from my house and traffic kills you in the morning. Bring your coffee. Sip quietly. Curse at the other cars under your breath, and play a game of "spot the shitty candidate stickers" for a few miles. The good: * I don't have to crash any classes the first day to make sure I get the ones I need (unlike De Anza). * I don't have to go to the gym in the morning before class, because I have to hike up to campus from the parking lot. * LOTS of online classes. Lots. And depending on the teacher, they range for ass-kicking to ridiculously easy (PHIL 24). * Parking is way more convenient than at De Anza, and so far, my car hasn't been hit. The bad: * Aside from the token 40-year-olds, I'm always the oldest in my class. And apparently, the only one who watches the news or reads the paper or knows what's going on outside my little bubble. * I'm HOW old and I still go to community college ? This is depressing. * Everything in the cafeteria is bad and expensive. The University of Kansas Unions had waaaay better (and cheaper) food. I wish I could still afford to go there. Oh wait, if I stayed, I would've GRADUATED BY NOW. * They recently switched to block scheduling, which means that classes are twice as long and occur half as frequently. This is NOT ideal for working students who need to hammer out three classes a quarter in the four free hours of waking life you have between breakfast and work. In fact, it's quite frustrating. I really can't wait for this phase of my life to be over. It couldn't be soon enough. read more

I recently visited the Foothill Testing Center to take my final exam for a distance learning course that I am taking out of the University of New England in Maine. I found the campus to be absolutely beautiful and very quiet. Being there made me feel like I was back home on the East Coast. My opinions regarding the campus being nestled deep in the hills, among the trees may be a little biased ;) The testing program they have here seems to be very efficient and the staff is very helpful. Nancy is the kind woman who helped me the most. She was very patient and helpful to me when my tests where not sent out and did not arrive from UNE on time for my original testing date. She was great about me having to cancel my testing time and assured me that they would be in touch as soon as my testing material arrived so that I could make another appointment. The day the materials arrived, her and another member of the staff informed me right away so that I would not have to wait any longer to get the dreadful exam over with. Overall Foothill and the staff at the testing center made the otherwise stressful testing experience a little more bearable. The center was clean, quiet and well lit and I was comfortable in the space that I sat in for the duration of the 4 hour test. The only downside was finding a $35 parking ticket on my window when I got back to my car. Who knew that I could only park in that spot for an hour ? :) read more
