There was less than a foot between the wall on either side and only about 3 feet in between the beds. The pillows were paper thin and when we asked if we could have more we were told that they didn't have any. We also asked about the room size and showed the clerk that the pictures make it look much bigger. He said that we were in the smallest room. We were able to look in the room next to us and they were the same size. I'm not sure why he felt the need to lie about that. We had two nights booked but only decided to stay one night and ate the cost because they sure weren't refunding anything. The only good thing about the room was that it was extremely clean.

We really wish there had been an outdoor area with a table or lounge furniture to be able to sit outside in the morning or evenings. We stayed in the more rustic rooms with outside entry. The door never seemed to latch/seal well and was loud. Beds were comfortable enough but moved a lot and the A/C worked overtime to keep the room cool. We didn't hear much from other rooms or from outside. The towels are very small and it should be standard to include a few more (especially for a two bed room). While parking is limited, it's convenient to be able to park outside your room for the most part. Hot water was good for the most part--there was one night where the shower would not stay hot but I think maybe a lot of people were using it at the same time. It was nice to have breakfast included but it doesn't start until 7am--this was too late if you want to get an early start to any of the area parks. It would be nice for it to start at 6:00 or 6:30am. While there's a coffee maker in the rooms, it's a small cup and would be nice if coffee in the lobby/breakfast area was also available earlier (before 7:00am).

The facilities were in need of a makeover and refresh. The towels and sheets were dingy and new towels and sheets were needed. The very small refrigerator was sitting on the floor with the microwave on top of it. I dropped some crumbs on the floor on the first night, the cleaning staff did not vacuum it up before we left after two more nights; and we did leave a tip for the cleaning staff each day. The water drainage in the sink smelled each night when we returned from the day's outings. The price was very economical, I should have taken that as a clue, however, the reviews were excellent so we took a chance. I would not stay here again.

Had the pleasure of speaking with Senenity over the phone the day of our arrival, very friendly and willing to help with directions, she was extremely helpful as we checked in, took extra time to explain the hotel and area. We were greeted with a smile & a hello on every time we passed thru the lobby that was genuine, Senenity is definitely the right person for your front lobby. We were also introduced to Barbie who also managed the front desk, she has such a bubbly happy attitude that just makes you want to smile. Brandie the assistant manager was extremely helpful when we had a late evening request, went up and above to bring new pillows to our room. Appreciated her making sure the next day shift got our request and followed through. Thats great customer service to insure satisfaction. Gloria the room attendant was more than happy to help me with additional towels and others on the 4th floor were all accommodating when we need additional items since we didn't need our room cleaned daily. Overall, the room was super clean, extremely spacious with comfortable bed and couch. Appreciate the extra coffee table and bed bench to store our items on, two large screen TV's, the towels are a lot to talk about, they are the best towels we've come across staying at hotels, wash cloths, hand towels and bath towels are very large in size and soft, very noticeable & appreciated. The hotel is located in a great area, felt safe, lots of lights in the parking lot, plenty of restaurants and gas stations, three highways going different places which made sight seeing easy to access. Enjoyed the delicious coffee that was available in the lobby all day and night with lots of other options, decaf, variety of tea, hot cocoa and all the creamers etc. One item we've never seen utilized at a hotel but it's a fantastic item are the carts like they provide at airports for luggage, we didn't need to use them but we saw families checking in/out and what an asset for them. Lobby provided a lot of sight seeing/what to do material and maps which was a great help, we didn't need to go anywhere else for information. The breakfast was a great addition and very convenient so we didn't have to go out, large variety of hot and cold items, the waffle mix had a delicious flavor, everything was well stocked and resupplied by Roseanna, her husband and daughter made everything perfect every morning. But for some reason, everything got changed to…read morelower.case) text for edits and reason for the downgrade to 1 star. well, at first glance, i wasn't too sure about this place. but, upon closer examination, it was pretty good. check in was easy, and the owner even walked down to where my room was, as i drove. i had a bit of a shock when i walked into the room. i know that o like to spread out, but 3 queen sized beds for 1 person? whoa! not sure if i can spread out that much. :-d and, i got a corner room, with a corner parking space right out front. the room and bathroom seemed clean. my only issues so at the time, is that because i haven't had cell service going on 3 days, the room's landline wasn't working. so, i went to the office to report it. and, the owner let me use his cell. not once, but twice! 8-) so, 5 stars to him, then. now it dropped to 1!! and, in the bathroom, there's just the sink. no countertop for my shaving kit. also, they have colored towels for make up,and cleaning spills. but the towels are stained and discolored, as were the bed sheets. broad shouldered people be careful, the bathroom is very compact. my shoulder brushed the sink. and, it's possible that your head (regardless of body type), too. personally, i think a mini-fridge, with the microwave on top would be better than the current setup, as a lit of closet space is taken up. breakfast isn't anything big. just a small continental type. not sure if i'll do that, or not. the wi-fi is iffy at best. and, even though it requires a u/n and password, it's unsecured. it's so weak, both my cell and laptop rejected it several timrs. but, after coming back in from dinner, i notice an unpleasant odor. but, you had to breathe deeply. luckily, i don't do that often. and, it disappeared after about an hour, or so. well, as i lay reading in bed, i had a uninvited guest (see picture) join me. now, i don't mind bugs (or a beetle in this case) in their environment. but, i draw the line, when they join me in bed. and, no. i didn't leave my door open. so, i packed up and loaded up the car. i took the key to the office, and told the owner what happened. he came to verify it. he did offer me another room, but i politely declined. then, he talked a refund, which we "discussed". i paid $96 and some change. so, knowing he would haggle, i said $80. he said $40. i said $60. he said $40. i said, make it $50 cash and ok. well, we went to the office, and guess what? he got out $40. i told him that i hadn't been here even 6 hours, and $40 wasn't enough. he then gets belligerent, orders me off his property. and, as i was walking out the door, he called me mental. had he come up to half, I would have accepted. but, he wouldn't budge. i turned to him, and said, "you just earned a 1 star review". and, i walked out, shutting the door firmly. so, as long as things go his way, he's cool. but, when they don't...

This mountain lodge is situated off highway 16 in Hill City, SD. It's conveniently located within 10 miles from Mount Rushmore National Memorial. I'd highly recommend this place to coworkers, friends, and family members!!! We really enjoyed our stay and I'm pretty confident that we would return for another visit at this lodging location!!!!
