Inside…read moreyou basically go to the station of the food you want, and they have signs stating the food so you know where to go. The adobada was what I was most excited for. It's similar to Al pastor without the pineapple though. The meat was tender and the flavor was authentic. My partner liked this one the most! What shocked me was the carne asada. The taco was delicious!! It had a wonderfully smoky flavor to the meat and it was juicy and tender. I have been craving it ever since!! This was my favorite. There's no seating downstairs but if you go upstairs you'll find some tables! Be warned that it's hot upstairs. But since you chow down the food quickly you won't be there for too long anyway. If you're visiting San Diego, this is a must!!

Tacos El Gordo did not disappoint!…read more We were on a road trip from the Bay Area to Ontario and decided on a last-minute dinner stop at Tacos El Gordo in San Diego. We figured we had to make the detour -- and honestly, it was worth it! The lines can get pretty long, but don't let that scare you away. They move fairly quickly, although it depends on how complicated people's orders are. The Al Pastor line was probably the longest, but that's probably because everyone knows what's good! Since we made the trip out here, we went all in and ordered about 11 items: 1 Lengua Mulita - This was my first time trying a mulita and it was amazing. Basically a taco sandwich with cheese, and the combination of the crispy tortilla, melted cheese, and tender lengua was . 2 Lengua Taco - The lengua was just as tender and flavorful as I remembered from about 10 years ago. It brought back some nostalgia and definitely lived up to expectations. 1 Cabeza Taco - Probably my favorite taco of the night. The meat was incredibly tender and packed with flavor. Definitely a must-try. 2 Asada Tacos - Solid tacos. They were good, but compared to the other options, they didn't stand out as much. 4 Al Pastor Tacos - These were amazing! The al pastor was super flavorful, juicy, and not dry at all. I can see why this line was so long. 1 1/2 Al Pastor Fries - The avocado sauce really brought everything together. The fries, meat, and toppings combined into a perfect late-night meal. We also ordered the grilled onions and jalapeños on the side, which were a great addition and paired really well with everything, just walk up to the ladies that's pressing the tortillas, no need to wait in line. Overall, Tacos El Gordo was definitely worth the stop. The portions, flavors, and quality were exactly what we were hoping for. If you're in San Diego, expect a wait -- but trust me, it's worth it. 5 stars but subtracting 1 just because after ordering the Al Pastor tacos, then waiting for the other lines for the other meats, food went from hot/fresh to warm pretty much, but that's on us since it was only Me and another person.

The menu was a bit confusing, but I know that I like grilled veggies and Greek salad and then Ike was able to pick my protein that I wanted so that seemed easy enough. The base price with falafel or chicken Shawarma was Close to $16 but since I chose the meat, they added two dollars to my total. It took about 10 minutes for them to assemble my meal, but my veggies were cooked fresh on the stove, which was really nice. They tasted very freshly cooked just as they would as if I had cooked them myself at home. I was there about 1245 on a Monday and there were a few people there and they had some takeout orders so my order took about 10 minutes before I could walk out the door with it. They had a nice condiment bar where you could pick out some yogurt with dill sauce and then they're famous garlic yogurt sauce, as well as a jalapeño sauce And another spicy hot one that I would never try. When I got back to the jury room to eat my meal, I saw that there was a nice quantity of the fresh salad and the grilled vegetables but the meat was piled high! The employees were working efficiently and the place was spotless and orderly.

They have an impressive deli with made-to-order sandwiches, fresh salads, pizza, and plenty of grab-and-go options. The sandwiches were excellent and definitely the highlight of our visit. Everything tasted fresh, and it was the perfect spot to grab a quick bite before heading out to enjoy San Diego. It's clearly not much of a secret anymore with all the great reviews, and after visiting, I can see why. If you're looking for a delicious sandwich, a quick lunch, or food to take on a picnic while enjoying San Diego's beautiful weather, this is a fantastic choice. We'll definitely stop by again the next time we're in town.

Unfortunately, the staff attitude was surprisingly rude. While I was standing there, a staff member walked behind me and twice said, "watch your back, sir." I'm a woman. Whether it was meant to provoke a reaction or passed off as a "joke," it came across as mocking and targeted, and none of the other staff appeared to check it or even acknowledge it. For a deli in the heart of Bankers Hill, you'd expect basic professionalism and courtesy. Instead, the vibe felt entitled and dismissive. I've been to other delis around town with far kinder service. I won't be returning.

Every time I'm in Little Italy, there's always a line, and I've often wondered, "Is this chicken really that good?" Well...today I found out! The menu offers plenty of tempting options, but I kept it simple with the 3-piece chicken meal, which came with a choice of fries or vegetables, a drink, and a giant chocolate chip cookie. You can also add extra chicken tenders for just $2.50 each, which is a great deal if you're extra hungry. Everything came out fresh to order. The chicken was hot, crispy, juicy, and packed with flavor, while the fries were perfectly hot and crispy. One thing I really liked was their unique soda fountain with several cream soda flavors, lemonade, and tea options. And let's talk about that cookie--it was huge, warm, loaded with chocolate chips, and topped with a light sprinkle of salt that made it even better. The dipping sauces definitely deserve their own shout-out. The pineapple mustard sauce was unlike anything I've had before--sweet, tangy, and incredibly addictive. I also loved the smoky barbecue sauce, which paired perfectly with the chicken. Customer service was another highlight. Everyone greeted us with a smile and patiently answered our questions. I could tell one of the cashiers was still learning, but what stood out was how supportive the rest of the team was. One of the employees was bouncing between helping customers, answering menu questions, recommending popular items, and assembling orders in the back without missing a beat. I always appreciate seeing genuine teamwork, and you could tell everyone was working together to make sure customers had a great experience. The atmosphere was just as enjoyable as the food. I loved the laid-back "shack" vibe with the covered outdoor patio, bar area, picnic tables, and even a cornhole setup off to the side. Music was playing, creating a fun atmosphere, and once the evening cooled down, the overhead heaters made the patio feel extra cozy. There was plenty of seating, making it a great place to hang out and enjoy your meal. Needless to say, I can finally understand why there's almost always a line here. I'm honestly wondering why I waited so long to try it for myself! I'll definitely be back, and next time I'm giving one of their chicken sandwiches a try. As always...I don't gatekeep--I just put you on game! If you're ever in Little Italy, do yourself a favor and stop by. If you're a fan of great chicken tenders, delicious sauces, and a fun atmosphere, this place is absolutely worth checking out. You can thank me later.

We got the cesar chicken wrap, friend chicken, fries, coleslaw, biscuits and a bloody mary. My favorite items were the biscuits and the chicken. The chicken was well seasoned and I like that they use jidori chicken. The wrap was good, it was just a little heavy on the dressing. The biscuits are soft and have a good flavor. I didn't really like the fries though. Overall the staff was nice. But the bartender was really nice and welcoming. This location is all outdoors. Parking can be challenging as it's mostly metered or in the structure. I'll definitely go back when in the area.
