I wanted to love Isel's Cleaners, I really did. Maybe the employee here is right; maybe I'm just unlucky. According to her, I am the only one with these issues. If it were a one-off, I would be more understanding, but it seems as though more times than not when I'm here, something goes wrong. Also, as an aside, perhaps it's not the best idea to tell a customer who is upset that things are constantly going wrong that he's unlucky. Let me give you a core example of what I mean. In summertime, I brought in a down jacket to be cleaned and repaired after I fell off an e-scooter. Oops. The quoted time for the jacket to be cleaned and repaired was a week. I gave them two, and the jacket wasn't done. Once again, I was quoted a time of a week. I came back in two, and the jacket still wasn't done. The response given was that, and I quote, "You don't need it." Well, you know something? Maybe I don't, but you don't know that for a fact. Maybe I'm going to Greenland or something. Don't promise something if you can't deliver it, and especially don't do so twice. There was another incident where I was almost given a shirt that wasn't mine. Thankfully, I am the kind of weirdo who more or less knows the labels on the insides of his shirts. I recognized it wasn't mine. This did recur a couple months later when the shirt I was given was definitely not mine - I could tell by its pattern and design, which again surprised her. Yes, mistakes happen, but it's weird that this happened twice. I can only imagine if I had taken someone else's shirt home by mistake, and then that person would have come back saying, "Where the heck is my shirt? Why did you give it to somebody else?" There was also an incident involving another item I gave them to be cleaned, where the company to which they outsource out did a poor job, and there was still a stain. So, the item was sent back. When I arrived, I found the shirt wasn't done, and I wasn't notified beforehand. Okay, fine. So, I came back later at the agreed-upon time, and the shirt still wasn't ready because the company to which they outsource their cleaning still hadn't done a good job. I received no notification of any kind. At this point, I said, "Enough is enough." I took my items back, I took my money back, and I took my items somewhere else. Let me close on saying this: The employee here is very kind and very sweet, and the prices here are almost unbeatable. I urge you to give them a chance assuming: 1. You are in no hurry. 2. You carefully check to make sure that the clothes you get are your own. 3. Don't give them any expensive or valuable items in case they're accidentally given to someone else. read more

I've used this service a couple of times and it's quite mediocre. My clothes weren't cleaned properly and it happened more than once.

Every 5-star review is correct. On August 3rd, I came in late in the afternoon because I had two pairs of pants that needed alterations. I take very good care of my clothing, and have had these pants since the early 2000s. One pair needed a new pocket, while the other needed shorter hems. She told me to return on the 10th. She replaced the pocket with sturdy cotton, and she sewed the hems perfectly. She also pressed both pairs of slacks before giving them to me. Perhaps this was a polite courtesy at no extra charge. I really appreciated this kind gesture, as it saved me time not to iron. I'd like to conclude this review by stating that in a one-mile radius of my home, there are six dry cleaners. None have 5-star ratings. Isel's goes above and beyond the call of duty! And, I will definitely be a return customer! read more

Decided to try this new cleaners to see how they'd do as I wanted to possibly use them for tailoring down the line. Brought in 3 cashmere sweaters and 2 blazers. Price seemed reasonable. Unfortunately, all the clothes were not ready when I was told they would be. Then I come back 2 days later to pick up only to discover the food stain I had pointed out on one of my sweaters was not only NOT removed, there were new spots/stains on the sweater that were not there before (??) I had already paid and happened to check the sweater in the store to see if the stain had been removed. I expressed displeasure and told the woman I would not pay for the cleaning of the sweater since not only did they NOT remove the stain, but somehow put new stains? She looked at me like I was crazy and said if I left the sweater she would try again. Ma'am! You already ruined my sweater, why would I leave it with you??! Keep in mind this is my first time at this cleaners! I ended up leaving since I had already paid and I really didn't want the hassle or to make a huge scene, but I told her I'd never go back. I've taken several items here over the last couple of weeks and I am VERY pleased with the quality of the work and the exceptional customer service! The first time I had a few items to be repaired and a couple to hem. I had to try a few pieces on in the shop and there's a small curtain area to do that. She even recommended the "right" length of a dress for me, saying my legs were good enough to go shorter than I had thought! I love when someone has an opinion! She also told me that she could take one of my items in but that it would probably be too tight because of how she would have to do it, so I appreciated her honesty. Prices were reasonable and it was all ready within a week. The highest price was around $20 for shortening the hem on a dress by several inches; everything else was just a few dollars each. The second time I stopped by on my way home from work just to ask how much something would cost to be taken in and realized they closed a few minutes before I got there. The owner (?) saw me and told me to come in. I show her what I want done, she gives me a price ($16) then says "but if you just want something quick so you can wear it once or twice, I can do that no problem." I say sure, because I want to wear it this weekend. She tells me to wait a second and she sews it up right there! She then flat out REFUSED to take a dime for it, telling me she knows I will be back and that this is only a temporary fix! AMAZING!! Customer service goes a long way with me, so I am definitely coming here for all of my alteration needs and referring my friends who live on the north side. I can't speak for the dry cleaning service yet because I haven't used it. read more

Don't throw away any of your torn or tattered clothes! I brought two pairs of jeans here, neither of which I could wear any more, though I liked them both! Two large tears over my butt were nicely and sturdily patches on one. Two new pockets (to replace one "holy" one) were sewn into the other. The pockets are even better than the original ones, as the seamstress made them a tad deeper (which is how they ought to have been designed!). Nothing but good things to say about this place so far. One more item to be repaired, but I am sure it will be perfect. read more

Isels cleaners is the best cleaning and tailoring shop in chicago. Courteous and friendly service, VERY reasonable prices. I got a suit tailored here for literally a quarter of the price of any other place that I called in Chicago and she didn't absolutely fantastic job. She also fixed a shirt the way that takes longer, when I had told her not to worry about it because I was under a time crunch, and she did it without charging me extra. When I told my sister I was driving to Devon to go to the tailor, she asked why I was going to a place 5 miles away when there is a tailor on nearly every block. Honestly, though, after having two items altered at Isel's, a 20-mile trip wouldn't stop me. She is phenomenal and then some--a master of her craft. My first visit sort of irritated me but in hindsight it was the first sign of her absolute perfectionism. I was on my way to the gym and had on the wrong undergarments for the type of alterations I was asking her to do. She pretty much told me a sports bra wouldn't do and to go home and put on a decent bra. It was a vintage dress and if she was going to take it seriously, so was I. It needed to be taken in at several points, a daunting task based on the construction of the garment and the fact that it has not one but two linings. The precision and quality of work is unparalleled, expertly and brilliantly done; the dress fits like a dream and convinces me I want everything in my wardrobe to fit as well. I later brought in a blouse from the 1940s, a lovely French alencon lace number. It always fit me but just barely and I figured it was worth asking if the sleeves could be taken out 1/4 inch--it looked like there was enough of a seam allowance. She nailed it to perfection, not a single sign that it had been worked on. If anyone reads all my reviews, it's clear that I also love Davis Imperial Cleaners but Isel's has bumped them down a notch. I'd trust either place with any tailoring job but Isel's gets grabbed the upper hand by being so nice and also for costing a bit less than Davis. read more

I've been going to Isel's Cleaners since I moved into the neighborhood a couple of years ago. I have taken my laundry, dry cleaning, and alterations work there and I truly think this one of the best clearer in the city. Maribel is always friendly and always accurate. Her alterations are top notch (my mom was a seamstress, so I have a frame of reference). There were a number of times where the close came back and she wasn't satisfied with the quality so he had the company who does the washing and pressing clean the shirts again. I didn't even have to point things out to her. Recently, Chicago Magazine put her through a "secret shopper" test. They gave her a glowing review and awarded her "Best of Chicago 2012" in the dry cleaners category. read more

I've lived in Rogers Park for ten years and have tried out many dry cleaners in the neighborhood and beyond. About two years ago I found Isel's. I've dealt with Mary, the owner, her husband and her daughter, and they all go out of their way to help you. Once I'd dropped off some shirts of my son's to have them washed when my son realized that he really needed of of the shirts that day. Of course the shirt was no longer on the premises but they moved heaven and earth for me to get it back, washed! I've never had any alterations done but have seen that Mary can create magic with a thread and needle, so if I should ever need that, this is the place where I'll bring them. read more

The most horrible experience I ever had. I took a dress there for cleaning along worth other clothes. Although I had no issues with any of the other items that particular dress was returned to me dirty like it was and damaged. The decorative snake on it was removed. I took it back and was promised to have it ready in a week. A month later my dress was still not fixed or cleaned and when I just ask that lady to give it back she refused and I had to call the police to retrieve my property. I never saw anything like that in my life!!! read more
