Although I'm satisfied with my own cut, I was frustrated with the wait times caused by some of the main barbers spending time on their phones while cutting customer hairs. During my own cut, the barber took longer than 5 minutes using his cellphone. It's unprofessional and disrespectful to the customers. The workers also took their time in between haircuts in the back of the store while multiple customers waited. The pricing is quite high for the lack of service. Updating this two days later to add a photo of the razor bumps on my neck. My skin never gets this irritated after a shave -- especially when I go to a barber. read more

For those that don't know the history of how this barbershop (Evolved) let's recap a little shall we? 9 months ago this barbershop was in the corner of Pico Blvd and Catalina and it was known as "Four Stars Barbershop". Unfortunately, the location burned down because of a sudden electrical malfunction. However, the owner (Jairo) decided to relocate the location. Now, after 9 months of devastation it has transformed itself to what we know as "Evolution". I've been cutting my hair with Jairo since 2009. Four Stars barbershop was always known for the best barbers in the (Mid-city/Korea Town). This shop was more than just a place to get a hair-cut. After a while your barber becomes your family; a place to escape from reality and relax. Expect beverages, wifi, outlets, but most importantly exceptional service! Evolution still provides all those amenities, if not more. Parking is available behind the building. I recommend making an appointment two days in advance because it gets overwhelming during the weekends. read more

Until, I came here and met my barber, Erick or Ernie (on the weekends ) - he's got skill with clippers and scissors. Always polite and professional, much like the rest of the staff here. We followed our favorite barber Andy Chung here to get my husband's haircut. When in LA we go see Andy who happens to be settling until the groove of things here at Evolution. The shop is very clean and spacious and everyone was very friendly. For those waiting, they have a flat screen playing movies to keep you busy. Andy hasn't changed and his professional demeanor is always nice and unassuming. He listens to what you are looking for and also gives suggestions on what cuts to try. With his expertise, you can trust him to let you leave the place looking fresh! I always trust him to do a great job on my husband's hair. This was an important appointment because my son had School picture day the next day so we wanted his cut extra fresh. When we got to the shop at my appointment time it was closed. I love Evolution Barbershop. After Jairo's previous location closed down (Four Star Barbers on Catalina), I decided to find a new place that was closer to either my new apartment or my work. I spent over a year bouncing from place to place never quite happy with the vibe, the price, and especially the cut. Then one day I was fed up and I was determined to find Jairo again and I am glad I did. Evolution Barber Shop has delivered the best haircuts and shaves at really good prices. Parking on the weekends is inconvenient but you might get lucky and find the spot next to the shitty tagged up dumpsters. I had an appointment for 2:30. I'm in the parking at 1:50 and call Jairo to let him know that I've arrived and will be in the parking lot smoking weed. He tells me to not worry and to go in at 2:30. I go in at 2:20 and wait until 2:40 when he's done with the person in the chair. As soon as he's done a dude shows up and Jairo sits him to the chair. I'm like "yo Jairo I thought I was next?" He replies "oh this is the 2nd hair cut I had that I told you about." I reply "so the appointments don't mean anything?" and he says that he tries to keep all his appointments. I ask him if one hair cuts takes him 50 minutes since I did show up at 1:50. He got offended and kicked me out. Waste of time really. So if you wanna go and wait up to an hour after your appointment this is the perfect place. A lot of these reviews are fake and likely paid by Jairo. Maybe that's what you have to do to keep your appointment, lie and give a fake positive review to skip people who have been waiting. read more
