Hi, I was reffered to Dr. Hess by the surgeon that did the surgeries for my breast cancer about a year or so ago. I was very impressed by not only the doctor himself but his staff. After seeing him 2 times I was very disappointed and upset that they didnt take my insurance. BUT One of the nurses (i wish I remembered her name) is going above and beyond to find me a surgeon that would take my insurance. she has made all the calls, gotten my referrals and records together to be reviewed by the UCSD team that would OK or deny me for the reconstruction I need and want. She did not by any means need to do this, but the office was concerned with me and the road blocks I was hitting. If I had been able to stick to Dr. Hess, I had full confidence that he would have been the best I could have found. He is very caring and makes you feel comfortable having him as your doctor. I went to Dr Hess because he did nerve repair on my sister's hand. We heard he was the best in cosmetic surgery, and he specializes in hands. He was very kind and took the time to talk and get to know her. He did a good job helping repair her hand. I went to Dr. Hess with issues of what appeared to me as carpel tunnel. After meeting with him and being tested, I was the perfect candidate for carpel tunnel surgery. First he did one hand, then once I recovered he did the other. He was nothing short of kind, compassionate and very professional. I read ALL the articles on him...it doesn't change his professionalism. I would go to him again without hesitation! He's the best! I will forever be thankful to Dr. Hess and the amazing job he did with my breast augmentation. I was searching for a doctor that would put me at ease with any concerns that I had regarding surgery since I am afraid of needles and things of that nature. I've been coming to Dr. Hess for about 5 years now for Botox. Not only is Dr. Hess the nicest doctor I have ever met, he is very knowledgeable, won't let you get something done unless he thinks it is necessary ( unlike some doctors who try and pressure you to do something just to make more money off of you) and is very honest and humble. You can tell he genuinely cares about all of his patients. I had been to a few dermatologist offices in the San Diego/LA area for Botox because I travel for work and am always in different cities and it never lasts me more than a month. I think because they use Botox that isn't fresh or perhaps watered down. This has never been the case when I come to Dr. Hess's office. I know he always uses fresh viles of Botox and mine usually lasts between 3-6 months. Not to mention,$11 a unit is also such a great deal! One of the more reasonable prices I have found. The other offices where I was given Botox, not only did it not last, it was $14 a unit!!!! I currently live in Manhattan Beach but make the drive to San Diego to see Dr. Hess. My experience at Dr. Hess's office has been excellent and I recommend all my friends to him. As I'm getting older, I know I will be back for more than just Botox at this office! read more

Dr. Hess is as good as docs get. I had a MOS procedure on my nose. Dr. Hess did an initial skin graft but it didn't take well. (Probably from my diabetes.) Dr. Hess, recommended by my internal med. doctor, recently removed a gratuitous growth. I have had anesthetic injections in fingers on other occasions and was not looking forward to this ordeal given all the pain receptors in fingers. Dr Hess took the time necessary to insure that the anesthesia was working fully and the procedure was less painful than a mild headache. He carefully closed the wound with sutures that were also painless. We had an absorbing conversation during the entire procedure without a single wince of pain. A very likable man who is not the kind of plastic surgeon you will see in the advertising sections of San Diego Magazine. He is a down to earth guy who could be your next door neighbor. I am a breast cancer survivor who waited 5 years before starting reconstruction. That was over 10 years ago. Although my plastic surgeon of many years was good, for some reason he had a difficult time reaching symmetry between my reconstructed breast and my real breast. After my insurance changed, eliminating my plastic surgeon, I went to Dr. Hess asking for a breast reduction of my real breast to match the reconstruction. He was reluctant saying I had a pretty good outcome overall, but finally agreed to give it a try. Today, three days after surgery, I am happy to say that he did a wonderful job. Realistically, it is like trying to match apples and oranges--the only thing they have in common is that they are both round--but he did a good job coming as close as possible and making me feel almost "normal" again after 16 years of feeling bad about myself. After successfully recovering from a reconstructive surgery on my chest, I am beyond thankful to Dr Hess and his incredible staff for being with me every step of the way.
