I am sharing this to warn others about the lack of patient safety and professional standards at medDerm. After encounters with two different providers, I have cancelled all future visits for the sake of my health. ​ I was initially prescribed multiple regimens that only made my condition worse. When I was unable to see the doctor for two months, I saw a Nurse Practitioner who proceeded to prescribe medications I am explicitly allergic to. Even after I reiterated several times that I could not take them, she refused to provide alternatives. Ignoring a known allergy is dangerous and negligent. ​ At the end of my visit, I requested a standard 'After Visit' paper with written directions for my medical care. I was told 'that's not how they do things.' Refusing to provide a patient with written instructions for their health--especially while dealing with infections and medications--is completely unprofessional. ​ Furthermore, they do not validate parking. It is sad that nearby coffee shops and sushi restaurants offer validation, yet a medical facility receiving referrals refuses to cover the cost for its patients. ​I will not be returning. If you value clear communication, clinical accuracy, and basic patient safety, I strongly recommend going elsewhere. read more

Dr. Sarah Moore was absolutely incredible. She was very informative, knowledgeable, and genuinely friendly. This was the first time a doctor took the time to break down every concern I came in for. She gave me her full attention, was extremely gentle, and explained everything I needed to do in a clear and reassuring way. She prescribed the right medication, explained exactly how to take it, and for the first time I received real explanations for every diagnosis and issue I had. She also helped remove a few skin tags that were making me uncomfortable and upset, and she did it with so much care. I highly recommend her and I am beyond grateful. If you've got some extra dangly bits hanging around, PA Ashley Calanni is the one to slice'em, dice'em, and excorcise'em. :) As I've aged, some "interesting" skin growths have formed on my sides, legs, and torso. They kinda grossed me out. My primary doctor (not a MedDerm person) put in an order to have a big one removed but insurance rejected it. So, I opted to be a cash-pay client at MedDerm and with just a quick visit, I was all skin-tag free and smiling. Btw, I am a big baby when it comes to medical stuff. I don't like needles, scalpels, surgical saws, or any of the stuff which comes out of an autoclave. And, seeing white-coated folks brings on new levels of anxiety and sweat stains. But, Ashley kept me chatting during the whole 5 minute procedure and my mind off the reason I was there. Overall an A+ experience... not one I want to do regularly but not nearly as terrifying as I had anticipated. I'll be going back to Ashley and MedDerm for my skin care when needed. Really nice facility. The PA was wonderful and very thorough and answered all of my questions. It didn't feel rushed.

Dr Moore did a biopsy on a cyst located on lower left eye lid. She told me to a certain Dr for Mohs surgery, Took a month for the appointment, when I met with the Dr. he told me he doesn't do Mohs surgery. I contacted Dr Moore, who told to call another Dr, when I did they also told me they didn't do Mohs surgery. That was back in June. I had to find a new Derm and surgeon, the problem still is not 100% resolved after 4 surgeries. Bottom line with Dr Moore is she is very young and simply lacks experience, which is gained over time. I did place a positive review for her after our first meeting, which today I can no longer stand by. sorry. read more

I am so sad. Why am I sad? Well, I`m sad because I found Dr. Patrick Blake too late in my San Diego time and I am moving soon. Dr. Blake is, by far, the best dermatologist I have ever come into contact with. I went with him based on reviews and he did not disappoint. The office is nice, easy to find. Parking is not an issue(when you exit the 163 on 6th avenue, pull into the parking on the right where you see the sign. Do not speed by it, plus don`t speed at all. You are exiting the freeway, so chill). Do you pay for parking? Yes. Would I rather not? Also, yes, but it was $6. Not a huge deal. Worth the money to not have to deal with the headache of finding street parking. Front desk staff was decent enough and they all seem to get along(lots of laughing and a positive atmosphere). Check-in was a breeze, standard waiting room to hang out in. My appointment ran 10 minutes late, but I didn`t mind. I mean, we are all used to waiting for doctors, right? That is the reality. Denise took me back and she was pleasant and got me into the system and ready for the doctor quickly. Waited a little bit for the doctor and then he(I hope I`m using the correct pronoun and if not, apologies) popped in. I found him to be friendly right away. Not overtly so, which I appreciate, but kind and ready to help. I can tell he is passionate about his job, very smart, has a wealth of knowledge and my favorite: not out to take advantage of anyone, but genuinely a medical professional who wants to help his clients feel their best. I came in for a sunspot I wanted to get lightened/removed and he gave me some options, suggested the best course of action, in his opinion. Not only that, he did an assessment of my skin letting me know some bits and bobs that I wasn't aware of. He armed me with knowledge on how to take care of the issues I was facing, wrote down some active ingredients for me to look for and what they would address, made conservative suggestions(when I say conservative, I mean he gave me a list of ingredients I could source on my own without spending a fortune), and really helped me feel confident about moving forward with taking care of my skin and mitigating my concern areas. He ended up using cryo to freeze a sunspot(we talked about the options before hand) and that was quick and painless(your mileage may vary based on your pain threshold). He checked on me while he was spraying to ensure I was comfortable-bonus points. This is one of the most awesome interactions I`ve ever had with a doctor and I would highly suggest seeing Dr. Blake if you can. You will not be disappointed. read more

I know to schedule appointments with her first thing in the morning or right after lunch. She can run behind but will never make you feel rushed. As I get older, we really need to pay attention to our skin. I've always had very sensitive skin so I do not use any products only sensitive dove soap twice a day, once in the morning and before bed. Recently I have had acne and scarring on the left side if my face that have taken time to heal and have now left a scar. It's not too bad but ugly nonetheless. I scheduled an appointment and was thoroughly impressed with the feedback and treatment plan for my face. Dr. Pelle is very knowledgeable and the staff were kind/efficient. Went in for issues surrounding my psoriasis. The scalp was super painful and open. My eyes had scales around them as well. The gentleman who was assigned to me just kept pointing out how painful everything looked. Making me more self conscious. He prescribed a shampoo and oil that did nothing it got worse in fact. I went to my primary's office because it was worse and more painful. For them to tell me the shampoo he prescribed was for anti fungal when my issue was autoimmune inflammatory response. The nurse practitioner at my primary's prescribed a steroid topical that cleared my scalp in less than 24 hours. I felt super over looked and just ignored by med derm. My primary's office referred to me as different office. I won't return I don't trust them anymore. read more

I have been living, often painfully, with eczema for the past 20 years. During the most painful flare ups, I have seen numerous doctors, been prescribed a plethora of topicals, and often leave my appointments feeling discouraged and continuously itchy. My most recent flare up was intense and incredibly painful and after five days of trying to live through it, MedDerm was able to squeeze me in for an appointment with DNP Jay Blake... and I cannot be more grateful!! Not only does Jay have a genuine, professional, and sweet demeanor, he provided the utmost quality care by making me feel comfortable/not embarrassed in my uncomfortable/itchy body. He also detailed options on what we can do moving forward and how we can work towards a future with less pain! His nurse, Jasmine, and Louisa at the front desk were the cherries on top of the BEST experience I've ever had at a dermatologist. Mahalo nui to Jay, Jasmine, Louisa, and the entire MedDerm team... truly, you have lifted my spirits and for the first time, have made me feel like there's hope in my insane eczema journey! After switching my healthcare from Kaiser to Sharp, I lost access to dermatology care. After almost a year of begging my providers at Sharp for a dermatology referral and being denied a continuation of care, I decided to look for a dermatologist in the community. I called to book an appointment with Dr. Blake who was booked out for months and was scheduled with Dr. Moore in 2 days. I was impressed with the care I got today. I was nervous leading up to the appointment because I had lots of issues to discuss and also from being turned down a million times from Sharp. Dr. Moore was extremely knowledgeable, friendly, and listened to all of my concerns. She had a ton of ideas and suggestions, while also explaining everything so clearly. She even suggested a follow-up appointment in 4 months to see how everything was going. That felt like a big hug because Sharp would never give me this type of treatment! I forgot the nurse assisting her but she was also friendly. I left my appointment feeling very relieved and supported. I would highly recommend Dr. Moore. read more

I had bad acne in high school and worked for years, including spending a lot of money on treatments, to make my scarring better. Was assigned here to help with my acne scars before my wedding. I was assigned to Dr. Moore who gave me potential treatment options for my acne scars. The tca cross treatment was sold to me as the treatment with the least amount of down time and the best results. I underwent the treatment and it complete ruined my skin making my scars much wider and deeper than they ever were. I had to deal with this on my wedding and still 5 months after am dealing with the consequences. I have had to spend a lot of money to correct the issue with barely any improvement. I am much more ashamed of my skin than I ever was before and unfortunately feel the treatment completely ruined my skin because it was not done correctly. Hoping this doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

UPDATE AFTER CHRIS' (Dr. Pelle's husband) RESPONSE: wow. I had no clue they would stoop this low to actually LIE. I will now share photos of the dated emails proving they would NOT help me the scar and told me to go elsewhere. I will also show these nose scar pictures with the properties of the photos so everyone can see the dates they were taken and that all these pictures were taken after her biopsy and BEFORE the other doctor made improvement on HER scar. I will now be posting that so everyone can see this business is EXTREMELY unethical and lies. SHADY, SHADY!!! OK, I have been a patient now for somewhere between 15-20 years...I cannot remember exactly at this point. I have dealt with A LOT from Dr. Pelle and her office. But, if you read my initial review, you can see the perspective I took on why I was willing to do that. One policy that has developed since my last review is that Dr. Pelle will only see any patient for a MAX of 15 minutes or you will have to schedule 2 back to back visits AND pay double copay if you want her for any longer. I cannot imagine this is legal, but I guess it is because she has done this for years now. Either way, it is incredibly inconvenient for the patient who has a worry about cancer or the like and cannot predict how long an ACCURATE and THOROUGH evaluation of such will take. It is just not ethical, in my opinion. Fast forward to last month during my last visit, I see Dr. Lee because he was available much sooner. To get to the short of it, Dr. Lee is very nice (opposite of Dr. Pelle) and proactively offered a solution to the very depressed large scar Dr. Pelle left on my nose from my biopsy over 10 years ago (see pics). He said that a graft would do very well to fix it. Dr. Pelle never offered that solution to me. I asked him if Dr. Pelle would give consideration on the cost of that procedure since it was a scar that she created by digging in too deep. He spoke with her and came back to tell me that she did not think she caused the current scar in the exact place of the biopsy. Ummmm...ok. Sparing you the details, I had another well respected facial Mohs Surgeon attempt to fix her scar a year prior. He made it better, but it still remained. So, when Dr. Lee said it would be much better with his suggested grafting, I was all about trying to get rid of it once and for all. Dr. Pelle is EXTREMELY money motivated and could not get past herself to help me even though she caused this scar. Because I asked for monetary consideration to have it done, she suggested I go somewhere else to get it fixed. She did not even offer a slight discount on the $400 procedure that takes 10-15 minutes in her office. So, I am back here to let everyone know that loyalty of close to 20 years, having brought her MANY referrals, and ...just basic ethics and compassion are not a part of her repertoire. I leave you with my most recent perspective...There are so many excellent dermatologists out there...why go here? read more

Medderm called the number on my card and spoke to someone that said my insurance is not valid. As far as the care I received from my doctor, it was outstanding. However, ownership/management clearly demonstrates an extreme lack of business acumen and clearly demonstrates that their clients are merely numbers on a spreadsheet and not human beings. I had an appointment in the morning and started to feel ill the night before the appointment. I tried calling and their office was closed. I then called them immediately when they open the day of my appointment to let them know that I was sick and that I would have to miss the appointment with my sincere apology. That's when my nightmare started the receptionist. She let me know that my "infraction" is billable for a certain fine, but they will make an exception this one time. I told her I sincerely apologize for missing the appointment and that I have never missed an appointment previously but I think using the words, penalty and infraction and just for whole demeanor was incredibly condescending and unappreciative to a customer. I had another appointment that day at another medical office and when I told them that I was sick and had to cancel, their first response was, of concern with compassion. " I'm so sorry to hear you're not feeling well. Are you ok?" They did NOT to put me in a penalty box for a "time out" like a fifth grader with an adult sized fine for my "infraction." I was so upset and visibly shaken that this encounter exacerbated my medical condition. I strongly believe stress is one of the biggest factors which makes you sick or in my case More sick. I ended up in the emergency room a few hours later and was admitted to the hospital for several days. If you want to be treated like a fifth grader, late for gym class, and get Infractions, fines and penalties for being human , this is a place for you. If you want to be treated like an adult and an appreciated customer, I would NOT recommend this office. read more

I think it's the first doctor's office I've been to where they post how they are doing with being on-time, by doctor. I don't know where to even begin. Seems like this office is not from planet earth because their standards are not anywhere close to basic earth like standards. The front office is extremely serious and unfriendly. Some of them even look angry(the lady at the right window), and it is so unpleasant to be at the office and to be treated with hostility. Sorry, I could not find another word that could better describe the service of certain individuals in the office. They are also unable to provide the paperwork required for the health insurance. EVERYTHING is problematic in this office, and I gave up. The nurse in my previous appointment walked before me and shot the door behind her and left me behind at the end of the visit when we both were ready to walk out of the examination room at the same time. My jaw dropped, and I waited alone in the room to process what had just happened. This had never happened in any other office before. It was so ignorant, and for a doctor's office, especially, it is unacceptable. There is no justification for these kinds of treatments, front or back offices. I can never trust these people with my medical needs, and you should not either. "Identifies as women-owned" is written in the highlights of Google listing. My jaw dropped again. I don't receive regular care at MedDerm, but recently had a wonderful experience here as I sought to have a milia removed. I was pleasantly surprised at how quickly I was able to be seen, scheduled for a consult appointment just a few days following my outreach, after being informed by other dermatology offices in the area that they were booking months out. I was seen by Dr. Doong, who was able to quickly remove my milia that same day. The entire process was so smooth and everyone I encountered - the front desk staff, medical assistant, and doctor - were so friendly and pleasant. I also paid out of pocket and found the price to be quite reasonable. I would happily return if I had another skin issue requiring attention. read more

The empathy Jay showed for my past treatments and conditions was something I have never encountered in the hundreds of appointments I have been to. I really like Medderm I would recommend it. But only if you saw Dr. Blake, he's amazing. On the other hand, Dr. Lee what a waste of an appointment! Send my husband in to have them check has the growth on his head a growth on the back And something going on on his arm. All Dr. Lee did was said oh it's OK. These are not dangerous. And send them on his way. OK, I'm glad they're not dangerous, but can you remove them because they ugly and most important big and bothersome. I am so mad I didn't go with my husband. Pros: Friendly staff and doctor, clean office with bright decor. Con: Lack of communication from staff to patient (me) regarding extended wait times.I've been to MedDerm 3 times and have waited a total of 1.5 hours for all of my visits. Today, I was in the office to have 2 sutures removed. My appointment was at 8:30 a.m. and I arrived at 8:20 a.m. After at least 10 people (6 of whom came in after me) were seen and some of them left, I asked the receptionist when I would be seen. She assured me I would be next and needless to say, I was not. I asked another receptionist when I would be seen and she said I was next. I was called in at 9:03 a.m. I was in my car by 9:11 a.m. It would have been great if a delay was communicated with me, especially since I was reassured that I was "only having sutures removed and would be in and out" by the receptionist who scheduled my appointment. Also, I was apparently supposed to have this follow-up appointment for suture removal scheduled prior to leaving the office once the procedure was done... 2 months ago, so this appointment was long overdue- this is something I asked about prior to leaving on the initial "surgery" day was told it was not necessary. Fortunately, I was concerned about the visible sutures and called in to schedule the follow-up for today. MedDerm Dermatolgy, please take this into consideration. Communicate with your patients if you can't fulfill the promised appointment time and be more attentive. Interestingly enough, I was about to press "post" on this review while at another follow-up Dr. appointment and a staff member came out and announced to all patients that the Dr. is running 20 minutes behind. read more

I went in for red bumps on my arms that I've had since I was a kid, and then some acne on my face last year. I was getting married and wanted to clear them up. As the doctor was examining, I said "I don't know if gluten has anything to do with it but it seems to get worse when I have gluten". The doctor sort of rolled his eyes and scoffed and said "Everyone blames everything on GLUTEN". The next month I was diagnosed with Celiac disease, so it was DEFINITELY because of gluten, and now that I've cut it out, my arms are almost completely smooth. So I just thought it was annoying to completely write it off and not look into it further... Won't be going back. read more
