Stopped in for lunch while shopping at Legacy Village. I knew the restaurant was new and wanted to try it. It was absolutely lovely inside and the staff was attentive and pleasant. The food was delicious, served hot and timely. Shared the lamb keftedes, spanakopita, the steamed greens and Tirokafteri dip with the best warm pita. Took home the leftovers and can't wait to have them again! Chatted with Brad and shared that he was (re) opening Moxie across the way in September. Can't wait for that to open as well. read more

EVOO is a beautiful Mediterranean spot with impressive decor and absolutely stunning food presentation. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the portions are very generous--definitely a place where you leave satisfied. Our waiter was very attentive and provided great service throughout the meal. The food overall was good, but a few things kept it just shy of a 5-star experience for me. The hummus was a bit underseasoned, and the pita was inconsistent--it was fresh and warm with one dish, and another dish came out with it feeling like the pita had been sitting out a bit too long (diff batch perhaps) . The chicken souvlaki was solid and flavorful, though the lamb was just average compared to the rest of the menu. Despite those small misses, EVOO is still a strong Mediterranean restaurant and worth visiting, especially for the ambiance and presentation. With a few tweaks, it could easily become a standout. read more

How can a Greek restaurant not have Gyro on the menu !!!!! They also don't have a lunch menu. To satisfy my Gyro craving I made my own. I got the Lamb Souvlaki served with a pita, tzatziki sauce, onions and tomatoes. Sadly, the lamb was mixed with beef, overcooked and very dry. So disappointing. Sorry, Evoo, you have far to go to earn a place at Legacy Village. On the other hand, the fries were great. read more

Despite Cleveland's sizable Greek community, consistent mid-to-high end restaurants serving Greek cuisine have eluded the Cleveland food scene for years. When EVOO was announced, the talent behind the Cleveland Restaurant Group was good reason to believe this curse would be broken (despite initial concern about the lack of Greek ownership). Unfortunately, EVOO ends up coming across as an imitation of Greek food (and hospitality) rather than a purveyor of it. It is important for me to address my bias here--as a Greek person, I am likely more prickly about how this specific cuisine is represented than most people otherwise would be. It is that experience, however, which informs my belief about the vision of the restaurant and, importantly, how it falls short of that vision. Upon entering, anyone who has ever been to the former California Pizza Kitchen in which EVOO now resides will notice that the interior feels...extremely familiar. A bright white paint job, prominent olive tree, and assorted pottery (I suppose because olive trees and pottery are stereotypically Greek) have been added, but besides these decorations the restaurant appears largely similar. My group of four had a reservation and were seated quickly. A waitress came to our table to bring waters before...completely disappearing. We waited around 20 minutes before returning to the host stand to ask our hostess to track down our server. Logistic issues like these are to be expected with brand new restaurants, so I do not begrudge them it (but hope it is addressed in the future). The menu is where the cracks really first started to show for EVOO. The menu is limited, which would be a boon if the few items they did offer were exciting. Unfortunately, the menu was extremely boring, offering no exciting Greek menu items outside of what you might find at any other Mediterranean restaurant. I ended up ordering souvlaki, as it is prominently featured in its own dedicate section on the menu. As mentioned earlier, I am Greek. Over the course of my life I have consumed hundreds of souvlaki, at festivals, on beaches, out of trucks, and off my own home grill. This was the worst. There are four potential souvlaki options: chicken, steak, lamb, and veggie (pork, which is the traditional souvlaki meat, is mysteriously absent). We tried both chicken and steak, and both were outright burned on the outside and as tough as leather on the inside. It did not help that the accompanying pita bread, which was advertised as having been baked in-house, was cold and tough, like it had been from a bag (or left out for a while). The french fries, at least, were legitimately very good. The appetizers and dips we tried weren't as offensive, but they were nevertheless uninspiring. We had saganaki, calamari, tyrokafteri, and tzatziki. All were fine, but nothing to travel for. I hope that these issues are growing pains for a new restaurant, and I intend to come back in a few months because I would genuinely love to see this location succeed. Before that happens, significant changes need to happen first, starting with more consistent service and a revamped menu. read more

We were impressed by the decor that evoked a Greek island. The lemony scampi's and rice was excellent as was the calamari, grape leaves and deserts. The moussaka was not so good. It was watery and the eggplant was not completely cooked. The service was excellent in the beginning, but the server disappeared later in the evening and even forgot our coffee with desert. The location is great and the decor is perfect! It's a little bit of a tight fit and the tables for 2 are small. We tried the saganaki which was delicious especially since its hard to find east of Cleveland. The soup was pretty good but my lamb souvlaki was dry and burnt. Service was fine overall. I stopped here for lunch today. I found plenty of GF/vegan options. I ended up picking the Grilled Zucchini entree. It was delicious with good spices and perfectly grilled. I would definitely order this dish again, but there are so many GF/vegan choices, that I will probably try something different on my second visit. The weather was perfect today, so I sat outside in their lovely patio area. My server De'ja L. was pleasant and attentive. I cut my grilled zucchini at the bottom before I decided to take a picture, so I screwed up the beautiful presentation. I am looking forward to going back to Evoo. For our first experience at EVOO we opted for lunch rather than dinner (although at this point in their "life" there is only 1 menu for both, which is totally fine - just opted to try to avoid the dinner rush). First the restaurant itself: We were greeted by a very friendly Host, and sat at a window-view table good for people-watching, which is what we requested (the Host even stopped back to check on us). The restaurant itself is very lovely, and very Mediterranean in style. We wish they would have played more "Greek-style" background music rather than what we considered mostly "piano-jazz sleepy" music. It was not a total distraction, but definitely noted especially since my husband is of Greek national-origin and we really enjoy Greek music. Maybe a "mix" of styles would have been better but it mostly made us feel like it was "old-timey" and not very Greek. Our server was great - attentive (without being "overly") and with a great demeanor and personality. 10/10. As for food: For our starters/appetizers, we ordered the Calamari, Hummous, and a Greek Salad. All of which were yummy! The calamari was nicely breaded and prepared - tender and not rubbery or chewy and the aioli dipping sauce was very good. Greek Salad (freshly sliced tomatoes, green sweet peppers, cucumber, onion, and kalamata olives w/Greek dressing) had a beautiful full piece of Feta and drizzled olive oil and oregano over the top (note an "authentic" Greek salad will never have lettuce!), and the Hummous was very good and served with freshly in-house made, warm pita. For our main courses, my husband had the Lamb Souvlaki, and I had the Chicken souvlaki. I'll start with my husband's - I can only say it was absolutely NOT souvlaki, but rather Lebanese Kafta. Ground lamb seasoned with cumin, corriander, and allspice (and other middle eastern spices) skewered, and (I'll even say overly) grilled are absolutely not Greek Souvlaki. What was expected: chunks of olive-oil, lemon, oregano marinated, skewered and grilled lamb leg or shoulder kebob, which it was not. *If the chefs or owners read this, please note that this really should not be advertised as Lamb Souvlaki* That being said, moving on to my chicken Souvlaki, it was much better and more of what was expected. The skewered chicken thigh was tasty, as was the in-house pita it was served with. Both really should have been served with grilled onion and tomato rather than a "side salad" of raw tomato and onion salad. Although it worked, it just was different than expected. The hand-cut fries were very good, as were the Greek Potatoes (which were my substitute for the fries). Also, the Tzaziki sauce was good. OH - and I should add...I was surprised (and a little disappointed) that no dessert options were offered. Not even rice pudding or baklava. Overall - I would say if you are or know your Greek cuisine and might expect a "Greek" experience, you should maybe ask questions before ordering, or just go in with an open mind that it's probably not going to be "traditional." We plan to return in a few months after they can maybe iron out the wrinkles, and I hope that they take a smidgeon of our comments to heart to help them ensure their success! OPA!!! read more

Service and atmosphere was great! Unfortunately the food was not. We had 6 people in our party and not one dish was great. The shrimp/orzo dish the orzo was soupy ish. Chunks of onions and garlic which is not what you would expect. Shrimp scampi was a nice size but flavorless. The moussaka dish a few people had was soupy as well. Nothing was formed. I have had this dish many of times. The octopus was literally burned. Calamari was not fresh tasting. Overall won't be going back. read more

Our first visit.... Really liked the vibe on a Friday night, but Only one bartender for the entire place made for some slow drink service. Our waitress made up for it tho.... She was very efficient and knew her stuff. We order several apps which were pretty good (but not a fan of the zucchini!). Entrees were all good. Made for a nice evening for the six of us. we were so looking forward to visit. we love Greek food and the mossman on tv spoke highly of his visits to EVoo. we were extremely disappointed in the food. we had saganaki which was so melted that it was like a sauce. we also ordered lamb souvlaki. that was really a let down. the lamb was ground meat on a stick that was so overcooked and when we later turned it over it was burned. the restaurant bills them selves as upscale Mediterranean so we thought it would be sliced meat or cubed meat. I've had better Greek food at a food stand at a county fair. there were only two other parties in dining room at a later lunch time. does every one know it's not worth it. or did we have a bad day. Really wanted to like this place but unfortunately other than beautiful setting the experience is lacking. Servers had little understanding of menu, guided us opening of what not to order and being opening week, expected it to be packed on a Friday - it was not. The saganaki was grey - burnt from the pan it rested in / and oily. Moussaka was swimming in topping of bechemel, octopus really tough, and will leave at that. Maybe a drive but i will continue to frequent Taki's Greek Kitchen for truly authentic Greek food in Avon Lake. Always consistently good. read more
