We have been going to Ewing Cakes since they opened the business, and have never been disappointed! However, last week I called for a specialty cake not listed on their website, and spoke with the owner directly. She was able to guide me in a direction that would make the cake shine, and boy did it not disappoint! Everyone at the party (22 people) loved it and even took some home. Hands down the best cake we've ever had from Ewing Cakes and we have had some seriously delicious cakes. The shop may be small and unassuming but their product is out of this world. Average to below average quality cakes. I was not impressed with the freshness or taste. Everything I tried was dry and seemed to have been sitting a while. Also, the selection is really quite small. I estimate they had around 15 pieces of cake in the entire store along with a few full sized cakes. Overall, it was an underwhelming sight. Granted, it's a small shop but still, the cases were really empty. If you don't know the area or are arriving via GPS, the location may throw you a bit. Even though the address is Parkway, it actually not accessible from Parkway. The entrance is around the corner on Lexington, right behind the service station in the corner. Nonetheless, even if you can find it, I wouldn't recommend shopping here. It's probably worth it for you to seek out another bakery for your cake needs. read more

I almost missed this tiny hidden gem. It is a block from IHOP hiding at the back of an auto shop. So no donuts here for those wondering. I saw some good looking sugar cookies, peanut butter cookies, individual sliced cakes like chocolates, vanilla, tres leches, Napoleon, and even individual sized mini fruit tarts. Very small business but it is gaining popularity through endorsements from recent patrons. They were sampling a vanilla cake with plain vanilla icing in it and it wasn't overpowering sweet which I liked and the plain butter cookies with powdered sugar are also tasty. The peanut butter cookie was also delicious. I cannot wait to try the chocolate peanut butter cake I ordered for my husband, hopefully it turns out great. read more

I have never had any problems with this bakery. I use them at least 5x a year. The owner is pretty great and professional. Every design I have sent them, she has delivered in a timely fashion. The place looks like a mess. It's a corner shop in a pretty run down complex you might think twice about entering. However, you should, they're pretty damn good. You can get a nice sized piece of cake for no more than around four dollars however I actually recommend the cookies. I thought they were the real star of the show. We talked through different flavor combinations to find something the person celebrating the birthday would most enjoy based on her preferences and I placed the order. I used to go to this little hole-in-the-wall to get my sugar fix when it was Cairo Bakery. Now it's Ewing Bakery and it's every bit as good as it was back then, and then some. If you need a birthday cake, or a pie, pastries, or cookies, don't even think about getting them someplace else - the cakes are tasty works of art and the pies are fresh and the cookies are delicious. Fabulous cake! This was my first time ordering a cake from here. After reading all the positive reviews I decided to give it them a try! My guests RAVED about the cake I served for my husband's birthday. They all wanted to know where it came from. With the usual yucky birthday cakes from other places, no one ever eats more than a tiny piece...just to be polite, and the rest gets thrown away. But this cake...everyone finished every morsel on their plates! FYI: I ordered marble cake, chocolate mousse filling and whipped cream icing. It was as beautiful to look at as it tasted. The person who helped place my order and the one in the shop when I picked it up were super helpful, polite and friendly. A great experience all the way around. I love this place!! The cakes are always very good and tasty. I only give 4 because I ordered a cake two weeks ago paid in full told them I would be there at 11 got there at 11:30 my cake was not even done. The women came out and told me that I would have to come back at 12 I just looked at her like why? She proceeded to tell me they put a time on the slip an hour before pick up so the cake can be decorated. I told the man that took my order I wanted it for 11 not 12. I said I would come back the women then follow one outside to ask what kind of filling I wanted it was on the slip this tells me they just forgot about my cake I was a little aggravated if she would of told me sorry we forgot about it I would of been ok don't make up a crazy story to make yourself look good. read more

Simply if I could give 0 stars I would. Do not use Ewing Cakes for any small events. I placed an online order on 12/27 for a small 8inch birthday cake, on 12/28 I called to confirm my order after not hearing back from the bakery. I spoke with the owners daughter who confirmed her mom had received the order and it was in the email on her phone. She proceeded to retake my order just in case (she was great by the way) and apologetic to not having the order I already placed she confirmed they had the order now twice and that my order would be ready Saturday 12/31 at Noon for a surprise birthday party. Come Saturday 12/30 at 4pm not only does Ewing Cakes not have my cake the baker says she doesn't even have the order!!! I asked to speak to the owner at this point who is of course not available! The baker then offered to have the cake ready in 10mins! I have so many questions about this 10 min cake but due to it being extremely inconvenient and last minute I asked the baker to make the cake and I would talk to the owner at a later time. Not even two minutes after, the owner calls my cell phone and asked to speak to me by name which shows the owner had my full order just as her daughter mentioned on 12/28. I kid you not the owner proceeds to tell me she will take $3 off my order and she had a $250 cake to do so I am guessing my $26 cake wasn't worth her time. As promised here is my full review on the worst experience I have ever had with a bakery!! I would like to say luckily I was already in Philadelphia and found a wonderful Bakery on South Street called Sweet Treats that saved the day and was absolutely amazing!! read more
