The lady with the red hair looked annoyed but I could care less. I returned to Lilla Vanilla after a mediocre visit a couple of months ago. I was initially on the fence due to the two viral crunches I tried--only one was enjoyable--and I wasn't impressed with the service. That said, I don't believe in writing a place off after a single average experience, so I decided to give it a second chance. This time, I ordered two different viral crunches along with a croissant. Unfortunately, the results were disappointing across the board. The Mixed Berry Crunchy was cute in presentation, but that was its only redeeming quality. There was no bold--or even subtle--mixed berry flavor. At $10, it felt wildly overpriced and not worth the calories. Next was the Lemon Crunchy, which is supposed to feature a lemon blueberry flavor. As someone who loves lemon, I had high expectations, but once again it was bland and forgettable. Since this is a bakery, I also tried a fresh croissant and asked for it to be warmed. The staff accommodated the request, and it smelled incredible. It was warm, light, and flaky--but sadly, the flavor fell flat. A light brushing of butter on top would have gone a long way. For me, this is strike two. Unfortunately, Lilla Vanilla just isn't worth the money or the calories. Based on my experience--mediocre service on the first visit, bland and overpriced featured items on the second, and only neutral-to-slightly-positive notes on the croissant--I'd rate it 2 out of 5 . i've been seeing ads about this place and it was finally time to try. I am waiting to try the crunchy fruit. I have not tried that yet; however, the cupcakes are not worth it. They are small size cupcakes, and there is nothing inside the cupcake, the flavor is in whatever icing or topping you have. I went on a Saturday and there was a line, they only have one cash register, and one person working the register. They are very slow and busy talking to one and other to pay attention to customers. Overall, it was meh. I do not think I would go back. also, the size of the crunchy fruit is very small compared to many I have seen on the Internet, and $9.95 for one. And the cupcakes were 395 each. My wife and I are not over on the eastern side of Hamilton very often, but when we are, we always try to find an excuse to stop in at Lilla Vanilla. They serve excellent baked treats, croissants and sweets. I'm especially fond of the savory pastries such as the ones made with Leek, Spinach or Asparagus. The Pain du Chocolat is also very good, and the regular Croissants are a nice upgrade from the ones you get in ordinary bakeries and markets. We've also tried some of the fruit filled tarts, and while I'll always choose savory over sweet, I can't deny that they were tasty. They're not inexpensive, but they're also well worth the price. You're getting quality product, and the product is priced accordingly. My only quibble with the place is that the person helping me at the counter told me that they charge a fee for Debit Card transactions as well as the Credit Card ones. I understand the credit card fee, but I'm not certain that a fee on debit card transactions is even allowed. Maybe it's not done and she just didn't know the diff? Anyways, I just pay cash to avoid the whole surcharge thing altogether. As I said, I'm not in that part of town often, but sometimes I make up a reason to be over there just to go to Lilla Vanilla, and it's always worth the trip. read more

I saw this place on Instagram and wanted to try it. The stuffed croissants were the main thing on my list. They did not disappoint! I got the dark chocolate one and my mom got the lemon one. The pastry shop is cute and there are tables to sit and enjoy. The service was kind and helpful. My only concern was that a lot of the items are just sitting out and there were flies everywhere. Located in an obscure strip in Hamilton, you would have to know that it was there in order to come visit. Not many bakeries have vegan croissants, so we gave that a try along with a leek and parmesan pastry and an opera cake. The vegan croissant was whole wheat, so a bit chewier than expected, and not quite as light as you would expect a croissant to be, but pretty good nonetheless. The leek and parmesan pastry was unexpectedly good, though I would have liked a little more leek. And the opera cake had a discerning coffee flavor throughout, though a little dry. One of the owners is Brazilian, and while you don't see Brazilian treats at the case, you can call and order pao de queijo to be freshly baked ten minutes before you arrive! A little pricey at $1.60 each, but maybe they're bigger than what I'm assuming in my head? As a French patisserie, their prices match but I'm glad to have one nearby finally! Adorable little cake shop in Hamilton. We picked up a few goodies the other day. We ordered a vanilla cake pop (decorated like a little ghost!), two chocolate chip cookies, and 6 cupcakes (assortment of vanilla, chocolate, hot fudge sundae and pumpkin flavored). The cupcakes are to die for. They have cream in the center, and plenty of delicious fluffy icing on top. The cake is very moist and delicious. I love that they're not overly sweet. Any time I've ordered cupcakes in other bake shops (in a variety of price ranges) I'm never thrilled. After a bite or two I'm ready to toss it. They're so sickeningly sweet that's all you taste. At Lilla Vanilla you actually taste the flavor! I can eat a whole cupcake without it hurting my teeth (or my blood sugar!). The interior is super cute and very clean. I noticed a few tables/chairs set up outside to eat your treats. Prices are fair, our total came to around $40 but I don't mind paying for something so delicious! Service was great, as well. Lilla Vanilla Cake Shoppe just opened today in Hamilton, carrying a wide range of baked goods, including Brazilian treats and modern French-inspired desserts, with some vegan and gluten free options, as well as Lavazza coffee. Their mousse cakes are especially unique and creative. They're on Instagram @lillavanillabakery (the owners are @nikandlily and @sweettastybolosedoces) and Facebook https://www.facebook.com/LillaVanillaCakeShoppe . No fixed menu since they said they're planning on changing flavors often, but they post their daily menu on Instagram and Facebook and are super responsive to questions. Their hours aren't fixed yet but are also posted on social media. They were really swamped and things were really hectic on opening day, but I'm sure they'll adjust and sort things out over time. They sold out really fast on their first day, so come early if you want to visit them soon. I tried their raspberry eclair ($5) and and cherry chocolate mousse mini entremet ($6). The eclair had a generous amount of not-too-sweet filling with a very strong raspberry flavor, which I liked. The mousse cake was gorgeous and also not overly sweet, and the mousse is on the firmer side. Previously I've ordered Chef Lily's cakes before on Instagram, where the flavors and designs changed constantly. Their opening is really exciting news; they've really elevated the level of the bakeries in the area, and are definitely worth a visit. I would give ten stars if I could! these mousse cakes are to die for. every flavor is incredible, every design is stunning. whenever we get a Lilla Vanilla cake, it's the talk of the party. simply pulling that gorgeous mirror glaze out of the box is a total showstopper. everyone stops to take a picture. are they more expensive than your standard sickeningly sweet supermarket sheet cake? sure. are they worth every penny? hell yes they are. my family drives an hour (each way!) for all our birthday cakes. we're particularly enamored with the black currant flavor - which is basically impossible to find outside of Europe. raspberry and passion fruit are also to die for. ditch the gritty buttercream cakes and try a Lilla Vanilla mousse cake. Is it Lilla Vanilla or Lylla Vanylla (phonetically)? I sort of like the second pronunciation as being more unusual and memorable, but there is no disputing that regardless of how you say it, the pastries produced there are superb. I stopped in recently to check the bright white shop out after reading several strong reviews from Yelpers I respect. I was met by two smiling women in white aprons, one the head patisserie chef/owner and the other her assistant. They were friendly and earnest in their desire to display their wares and educate me about the finer points of French oven delights. I decided on two croissants (butter & almond), lemon meringue tart, red velvet cakecicle, and a chocolate chocolate chip cookie (see, attached photos). Prices were en petite trop cher, so I stopped at $20 for these items. Worth every centime, but not a luxury to indulge every day. Loved the croissant. Flakey, light, buttery, mildly chewy, with special mention to the almond version that had a wonderful marzipan layer within and thinly sliced delicate almonds baked onto the surface. Subtle and beautifully nuanced. That lemon meringue tart, with graham cracker crust was a knockout for those of us who love lemon bars and the like. The textures played well together, with the silky tart lemon cream counteracting the hard sweetened graham and the gentle flip of the meringue. Fantastic! The red velvet cakecicle had a thin berry frosting encasing the moist heart shaped cake, and was devoured in two bites. Delectable, and really deserved to be a larger experience - like a full on cake. The "cicle" was just a tease. Finally, the cookie was a nice snack with milk or coffee; full of rich chocolate flavor and small chips. A total continental sweet feast, way too good to pass up every once in a while. Maybe, they should consider, "Lillie Vanillie," as their nom de plume, to take advantage of the similarity to that popular music duo that inspired us for a short while at the end of the last century, except that these folks are for real! read more

Located in the same strip as Halo pub I was looking forward to trying an eclair but my afternoon visit ruled that out. There were still choices in the display case that looked artistic and somewhat cute, also small. So I went with something simple, chocolate croissant and an apple turnover. Both were very good. The apple was a perfect pasty, down to the fully cooked and tasty apple"sauce" filling. The same can be said of the croissant except that I would have liked more of the dark chocolate. This is an eat in cafe if you'd like, but I didn't notice any hot beverage options. I definitely plan on returning earlier to see what else I may have missed out on. Sadly, can't give a good review even though I was excited to try these wonderful-looking pastries and cakes. It started as it was bothersome to the staff to ask any questions about filling etc. Nonetheless, I purchased several croissants, and the viral fruit pastries along with a cake for a birthday, which was strawberry. By the time I got home 45 minutes later to put it in the fridge, I had one big blob of a melted mess. I guess the coating was chocolate.? I still couldn't find out even after a phone call to the establishment what it was! I prefaced my call with" I'm not looking for anything, just a word of advice" to let people know these items are "chocolate" and need to be refrigerated immediately because of the chocolate and mousse. When you ask for a birthday cake, one would think it was a cake but unfortunately, I found out the hard way, and $126. The phone call was senseless as the person I spoke with wanted to argue and defend the staff and missed the point of my intent! All the kids loved it and several parents asked for contact information for the bakery. Ordering was very easy - we just send a picture of what we wanted and selected the cake size and flavors. I knew nothing about this place. I was just looking for a bakery that was between me and where my son works so he could pick up a BD cake for my wife on his way home from work. This place was in the town he actually works in, so I sent him a text and asked him to stop there. He chose a cake that was SMALL! It had chocolate and strawberry mousse. He was charged $80 for this cake!!! So, I went to their website and saw that a cake for $80 is under the "Large" mousse cakes that offers 10 to 18 pieces! Cutting this cake into 18 pieces might be enough for a 5-year-old child to eat, but not for an adult! Even though I found that I am not a fan of strawberry mousse (which is a ME problem, not a THEM problem) my issue was strictly about the PRICE for the size of the cake that he got!!! Mousse isn't exactly a costly item. The cake was pretty and such beautiful handwriting for the "Happy Birthday (with the name). I don't know if they confused this cake with a "Large Cake" or not, but I truly feel that we were robbed! I will NOT be a returning customer! $80 for 8 pieces of cake ($10 per piece)??? Really nice little pastry shop right on Nottingham Point. The menu changes daily, so make sure to check their Facebook or Instagram page. We tried a chocolate croissant, a Nutella croissant, an apple turnover and a pistachio eclair. Both croissants were delicious, our favorite items far and away. The turnover was very good, flaky and delicious. The filling was a bit sweet for my liking, which, yeah I know, it's an apple turnover, what was I expecting? The answer is I don't know, just personal taste I guess. Still very good. The eclair was a bit of a letdown to be honest. I'm not sure why, maybe when I heard the words pistachio and eclair used together, my expectations were set impossibly high. I was still very pleased with my visit, and I am excited to go back and explore more of the menu. I have heard great things about the mousse cakes, so that'll probably be next on my list.
