At Excel rehabilitation, the therapists I worked with were knowledgeable about the shoulder issues I have after the surgery. But they work short-handed all the time. Sometimes my therapist was working with three patients simultaneously but two is the norm. On the other hand, their staff is hard to work with. I called for sick but no one picked up the phone at 7:30 am and then called after 9 am for postponing my appointment but the response was I have not informed them 24 hours in advance( My appointment was at 7:30am next day and the office was closed and no one picking up the phones). I was an old patient and going there for more than 3 months for the same issue. They charged me $50.00 penalty for not showing up. I will not go or recommend this place to anyone. Duncan called me 3 days later when I canceled all of my appointments. read more

I have been going to physical therapy here on and off for the past year with varying results...until I started going to Excel! I have been seeinga great new therapist there Kathleen. She has been awesome. She explained my xray results to me and my doctor's diagnosis. She has placed me on a plan I can follow at home. Then when I go into the office I receive additional "tune ups", always with an explanation. The facility is clean, and always calm in atmosphere (even during elections!). The staff knowledgable, and if you follow their exercises at home, you will get great results. This is a great place! And Kathleen is a very knowledgable Physical Therapist who brings results. Excel Rehab is a fantastic practice in the Northern VA area - I would give it more than 5 stars if I could. I came to Excel after 8 to 10 weeks at another PT office left me in more pain than when I started. Lucky for me - I found Excel and they got me on a much better path! Scheduling is super easy - I got into a 2x per week rotation, at the same time each day/ week. My first appointment was within a week of calling as a new patient. The regularity of the PT sessions really helped! I had the same Physical therapist throughout my care. Kathleen is awesome. She's so knowledgeable and caring. She listened to my problems and came up with solutions. She also gave me really good stretching and strengthening exercises to do at home, and watched me closely in the office to make any corrections. All of the physical therapists at Excel are super knowledgeable and friendly - they clearly take a lot of pride in their work, and truly care for their patients. I am in a much better place after coming here and highly recommend it to others for top notch care. read more

My visit with my Physical therapist went from awkward to eventually me not wanting to come back again... My critiques of excel are based on the interpersonal interactions I had with my PT. As someone young, who has now experienced two injuries in 2021, I would try to ask questions to better understand treatment. Every single question I asked my PT, she would always seem to respond non-empathetically, almost like she was annoyed. She would answer my questions... but she never once seemed happy to. Finally, we had this conversation below. I didn't like her attitude or energy at all... Her tone and body language seemed agitated even before this conversation started. *This has been condensed for clarity, so it's not exactly verbatim.* Me: *Once I finished my hour of PT I asked: "Will I ever get to the point where I can do drills like that girl did today?" (referring to the patient that came in with a lacrosse stick and did athletic drills for an hour) PT: It depends on the injury. Me: Okay... what about my injury? PT: Well it would not be warranted in your case. Me: Why is is not warranted? PT: My responsibility is to return you to being functional. Me: My goal is to return to my sport and play soccer like I did before. PT: If you want that maybe you should see a personal trainer. They can do the drills you are looking for. Me: I don't understand then why are you doing lacrosse drills with her and not soccer drills with me? What's the difference? PT: The difference is in injury. Your injury is a chronic issue. Me: Okay but what was her issue? Her knee? That seems chronic. PT: I cannot discuss that due to HIPPA. Me: Alright, I don't care about her injury. But I still don't understand the difference in treatment. PT: I cannot have you doing exercises that are soccer related when you are still experiencing discomfort in daily activities like sitting. Me: So, do you see my discomfort going away in two weeks? We only have two more meetings scheduled. PT: I don't have your calendar pulled up. But it would depend. ME: That's all good. You can cancel my future visits. read more

My wife went here for her cervical spine therapy and we had really good experince at the Aldie location. I should mention about the therapist Racheal with whom she had her therapy and she did a really great job in understanding her pain and getting treated as per her convinience. No issues with the therapy and the location at all. I am giving one star only for the billing department. There is a dedicated team for Billing who never answers your phone call reagrding any questions to the bill and never ever call back after you leave a voice message like they are the most busiest guys in this whole universe. I tried calling them over for a month but with no luck, left so many voice messages but for no response back. I am not gonna recommend this to any of my friends or relatives. This is only for the billing department. If your IVR got a dedicated number for Billing, ask someone to respond to the customers calls. read more

Despite have all the positive reviews this facility has received I unfortunately have had a negative experience with this company. I found my therapist to be rather rude, short, and would not answer direct questions about my treatment plan. On my follow up appointment I noticed a definite glare from my therapists before my appointment. I am planning on talking to the owner Duncan and canceling all of my remaining appointments for the next month and a half and going elsewhere. read more

Just completed my physical therapy sessions with the most gifted and talented Physical Therapist ever-Kathleen Dawson DPT at Excel Rehabilitation in Fairfax, VA. Been suffering with an impingement and loss of range of motion in my right shoulder for several months and decided to go to the ortho experts at The Anderson Clinic. After their review and evaluation, they recommended Excel Rehabilitation. I was fortunate enough to have Kathleen for all of my PT sessions. She developed a fabulous stretching and strengthening rehab and exercise program for me. That program included the most unbelievable app for my phone that contained videos of each of the recommended exercises. I am happy to say that the strength and mobility has returned to my shoulder and I am able to have no restrictions in any of my activities or my yoga practice. I hope that I will not need any further PT in the future, but if I do, I will not hesitate to contact Excel Rehab and request the outstanding PT services of Kathleen Dawson. Excel rehab is an excellent place to get yourself back into action. The staff is extremely attentive, knowledgable and clearly focused on your individual needs. I've been going there for 6 months now after a bi-lateral ACL reconstruction. I have endured injuries like this before and always hated my therapy sessions. Thats not to say it's easy this time around but the staffs demeanor and the overall atmosphere keeps me encouraged and energized to push forward. I worked with Duncan at Excel Rehab for just over three months, recovering from arthroscopic surgery on my hip. He and the rest of the staff are highly knowledgeable, pleasant to work with, and respectful of their patients. They operate in a comfortable facility and always start promptly on time. I'm a big guy, 6'5" & 250 lbs. I've had therapists before who were too small or timid to manipulate/stretch my limbs to address my hip problem. Not so with Duncan. I saw great improvement from the start (no weight on leg & on crutches) to finish (downhill skiing and light jogging). He left me with a strategy for continuing rehab at home once my insurance-allowed visits were complete. I highly recommend this team! read more

To be frank with you yelpers, I've struggled with whether to review this location. Do I share this amazing location with you, lessening my chances of getting a desirable appointment time? I first came to this location seeking help for some serious leg problems. My issue was complex and severe but April, Jacks, and Duncan were amazingly knowledgeable about what was going on with the complex muscle group in my leg. Seeing them for 3 months did wonders for both my leg and understanding of how my leg muscles worked. I'm forever grateful for their patience, dedication, and sense of humor. Can't wait to visit them again for my sciatica issues! This location is tucked inside the Fairfax Racquet club. There are no weekend hours (insert sad face) but they are well staffed during the day. read more

I can't stop giving out Excel Rehabilitation's contact information if I hear someone needs a rehab clinic. My Physical Therapist was April, she was very professional and attentive to me and my ailments. I would say that the atmosphere was very open and easy going. I had a lot of random conversations with fellow rehabers- (which always makes the time go by a little easier). Anyway, the entire staff seemed to be nice, caring, open and personable. Everyone also "pitchs in" and helps all of the client's, that means for a client the whole process is smooth and helpful. I have only been to one other rehab clinic in the area and they photo copied all exercises for me to do at home and appointments were spent just explaining if I felt better or not...Excel Rehabilitation is not that sort of place. They push you as hard as they think you can do - all in the hopes to get you back to your best! If you haven't heard of it, you'd never know this gem is tucked inside Fairfax Racquet Club. There is no street sign to advertise it. One who has had multiple PT experiences in my past in other facilities, I was thrilled to learn that physical therapists are the only ones who work on you at Excel. There are no PT students or assistants on site. The location is small but has everything needed to bring you back to full function. They utilize the racquet club's gym to access a wide range of equipment for your therapy. I've worked with Duncan for knee replacement therapy and very happy with the results. On any day I have seen other patients treated for ACL reconstruction, shoulder and back issues. The facility is popular with high school students suffering a sports injury. read more

I went to Excel Rehab based on a relative's recommendation, although he warned me that the expert who's helped him wasn't there any longer. I decided to give it a try based on some good reviews I read here. But boy was I disappointed! Not only the sessions were mostly on my own doing stretches that I could have done anywhere, but also they are NOT honest upfront about their charges. I was hit by additional charges a couple of months after I stopped the sessions, which it seemed like they'd make sure I didn't find out about the charges before the sessions ended. I called them a number of times, left messages but never was able to speak with the person who "supposedly" handles billing. The rehab place strikes me as a very poorly run practice, not much communication or progress evaluations, until they say you owe them money. Highly NOT recommended! Do yourself a favor to find rehab experts who don't just clock the time-sheet and collect payments but rather take pride in their skills and work that can actually make it better for you! read more

Honestly, I didn't want to share what a gem of a place this is for fear of it getting too busy. Their approach to PT is really world class in that one therapist has only two clients at a time! And their therapists all have a PhD! Having been to another place where honestly now realize I felt like a number. Why? Because I was doing the exercise myself and occasionally the PT Assistant or my Physical Therapist would catch me doing something wrong. With my Excel therapist Haley, she is ensuring that I do it right as she is always checking or working with me. My first meeting she really took the time to understand my issues and my concerns. She is very knowledgeable and her personalized plan for me so far makes me work hard while I am there whereas the other places I feel like I was checking off the box. Honestly, I feel like I have made significant progress in a short few weeks. I walk better according my husband. If you need a new place to go or are just starting, consider Excel! My teenage daughter is an avid swimmer and volleyball player. She has had several overuse and chronic injuries throughout the past few years. Anytime she gets a new prescription for physical therapy, we always turn to the physical therapists at Excel Rehabilitation. We are currently battling a sprained ACL with a possible tear from the volleyball court. With Ashley being an avid volleyball player and Jacks a swimmer it has been a blessing for them to help her know exactly what she needs to get her back up and running. It has been awesome watching physical therapist athletes helping injured athletes. Our daughter also has a chronic overuse injury that requires a special type of physical therapy treatment and Duncan has been wonderful about getting himself as well as his staff trained on different types of PT treatments and sports injuries.
