March of 2023 After reading some of the reviews on here, I figured we try this place out to do our taxes. At first we was quoted a price for both business and personal taxes as these were fee based and not commission type quotes. So we went ahead and set up an appointment with the company. Once we got to the appointment, Leon the front desk guy told us we'll be going with Jessica. Calls out Jessica but then she says she already has someone today. So Leon then calls out Calvin so that's who we needed up going with with. Anyways we told Calvin that we were interested in doing both our business and personal taxes with him. So we handed over all our paperwork and he was pretty quick. Took about half an hour but we were missing a few pages of info so he told us we can come back and drop them off. After dropping off all necessary paperwork our business one was completed and ready to file. Sent us an email and checked out the draft and everything seemed ok. Since the business one was completed, we stated that we wanted to work on the personal taxes. So we waited about a week and finally asked him how it was, he said it was done. He sent over a draft copy but it was the business one that he sent. We called him and asked for the personal, he stated he did send the personal one. So he said he'll send it again, which again was the business one. Called him up again and he complained but he sounded like he didn't want to talk to us already. Anyways, he sends out another copy but this time it's a file that we can't open or view. It was a .winmail type file. It was already late, so we called him again in the morning. He tells us try and check your junk mail which we did and nothing was there. Again he sends another email with the same .winmail file. At this point it's been about two weeks as we started in the beginning of March. Now it's the end of March. Anyways I wrote multiple emails and called him many times and we're still waiting for our personal taxes to be done. He finally gets back to me and told me that since it's a secure file, he gave me a password to use to unlock the file. But guess what, the password won't work. Right after that, I called him up again and was put on hold. He would call me back. I'm still waiting......... This would probably be my first and last time with this company as they seem pretty unprofessional in getting paperwork done in a timely matter. And since we can't view the draft paperwork, the next available meeting with Calvin won't be till April 11. Talk about cutting it close or was he just planning on filing an extension? Either way, I want my paperwork filed in a timely matter but this company has failed to do so. read more

It's that time of year again....no not Christmas - but TAX TIME. I'm not sure if you're like me when it comes to this time of year - I dread having to get my taxes done. It's that uneasy feeling of not knowing whether you're gonna be overjoyed with a refund or deeply depressed knowing you're gonna pay yet again. Such is my case with every visit to Executive Tax Services. Entirely not their fault though. I've been having my taxes done here since 2003 and I have seen this company grow from an "at home" type business to the one they are today. It was at my brother's prompting to get my taxes done by the Coles (I mean really, if you CAN'T trust your brother's advice - who can you trust?). My ritual on the day of coming here usually involves taking a pain killer to numb my throbbing headache/ oncoming migraine and usually tons of coffee. That feeling of waiting for the drum roll to literally invade your mind is pretty intense and the anticipation of joy or dread is overwhelming. Calvin and Ella Cole have done an exceptional job in advising me/us as to which direction to take with each upcoming tax year. They ask all the right questions in trying to maximize your return and I have peace of mind knowing that they will have my back in the event of a audit. Isn't that what most people think when it comes to taxes - "what am I getting or paying?" and "will you assure that my taxes are done right?" and more importantly, "will you assist in the event of an audit?" Let me tell you though, in the past our visits for tax preparation has consumed all but 2-3 hours and between the distractions (not our own) and intermittent phone calls during our appointment - it was ROUGH!! I'm not exaggerating when it takes that long - but I must say they have IMPROVED 100% in terms of distractions and phone calls. It helps that they have a front desk receptionist (their daughter) to field all phone calls and drop in visits during your appointment. It makes for a more efficient visit and really makes me completely assured that Cal / Ella have my 100% undivided attention and vice versa. Prior to this visit, I can honestly say I probably could not have given them a 5 star rating only because of the home base business with ALL the distractions but with the re-location of Executive Tax Services to the new Mililani Mauika Gateway shopping Center and the hire of a full time receptionist, their business has reached a new level of professionalism and service. Our taxes are always professionally presented to us in a bound folder with all the necessary envelopes and important numbers. But the best part is that they can electronically file your taxes on site and can route refunds to your account directly (have your bank routing number and account handy). Cal and Ella are still just as long winded as ever - but in a good way. After all, wouldn't you want to have that kind of personal relationship with the people who scrutinize your finances? It's like having that ever so "intimate" relationship with your dentist! Something like your FINANCES and TEETH take on a whole new level of "personal" and must only be shared with someone you trust. States open on Sunday, but it is not. I called Saturday and Sunday no one answered the phone or returned my messages. I decided I would stop by since it states open on Sunday until 4 pm. I got there, and I noticed the hours of operation sign in the window was blinking "Open" so I went to open the door and noticed the must-have masks to enter the facility note also on the door. Of course, I just took out all my masks in my truck the week before, so I cut off a sleeve from one of my running shirts, and it worked great. After feeling accomplished, I walked back to the office only to pull on a locked door. I knocked and took a step back, then noticed the sign stating that starting in May 2022, the place was closed on Sundays due to "off-season.". Well, that's just great. How about you update your office hours on Yelp?/ You have had since May to change it. I wasted precious deadline time going to this place and ruined a running shirt for their mask policy, 1 star. I hardly ever write reviews, but it's inconsiderate to waste other people's time, whether done purposely or just through negligence. Aren't CPAs supposed to be thorough and detail-oriented? Just finished doing my 2021 taxes with Calvin after being referred to him by a friend! I've never gotten my taxes professionally filed before and always did it myself. I did not know what to expect but Calvin was awesome! I am self-employed so doing my taxes are a little more complicated, but he did everything so quickly and was so patient with me! They also have a very safe covid protocol with temperature checks, screenings, and disposable gloves to wear during your visit. I've been coming here for a while now. Before I had no problems but this time I'll be lucky to meet the deadline to pay the IRS. I went to do our taxes on 4/6/23 and we did 3 returns that cost me $900. They needed one piece of info for my dad's return. I called back that same afternoon and gave them the info. Well it's the 17th and I've been trying to get the status of his return with no luck. So far I've left 2 messages (one on Saturday and one this morning) and no return call. Tomorrow is the deadline to pay or face a penalty, so provided I get the return today, I'll be standing in line at the post office to mail the checks by certified mail. Hopefully it won't be a long line but I won't hold my breath. I will have to fit in the post office visit between other commitments/appointments I have scheduled for tomorrow. They didn't even provide me with the 1040-V form that I need to send in with the checks. I had to go online to the IRS website to print it out for my and my dad's (when I get it) returns. I'll be looking for someone else to do my taxes next year. This is unacceptable service for the price I paid. They're nice people (why I gave 1 star), but if I can't get my returns in a timely manner or any communication on whether they need more info or why it's taking so long, nice doesn't cut it. It's now 4:40 pm and not a word on my dad's return. According to their voicemail from 4 pm to 5 pm (closing time) it's their dinner break. Guess I'm not getting the return anytime today. Taxes are due tomorrow. I have prior commitments and appointments for tomorrow and am unsure if I'll be able to spend the time waiting at the post office to send the payments. I already called the receptionist (who gave me attitude) and explained that I needed the return by the end of today. I guess 11 days is not enough for them to do a tax return. I shouldn't have paid them until I got all 3 tax returns, maybe then I'd have gotten my dad's one sooner. Very poor and unprofessional service. I will definitely go to someone else next year (a friend is recommending another place). Too bad I can't get a refund on the money I paid to have my taxes done here. Beware... Not a good company to hire. Talked on the phone to see if they could handle doing a complex task on my taxes. They advised to bring documents in to review. Upon completion of in person meeting, they charged me $75 which took about 15 minutes meeting time. Since I already invested that amount of money, when it came time to start filling taxes, I got no response back from email or voice messages I left. I found a place to do my taxes. After years of turbo tax, I decided to switch to joint file with my wife. After failed attempts to find a CPA, we looked to yelp and found this place. There is a waiting room with a tv and some drinks. It's nearby other places to eat as well, so there's things to eat while you wait. Ella did our taxes and she seems to know a lot about the tax code. It's her and her husband's passion and it shows with her knowledge. I'm not passionate about taxes, but if I have someone passionate about it working on my taxes, that's great. The business is a husband and wife duo and they are both so nice. Ella talks story like we knew her for years and just catching up on things. It makes the tax meeting feel more relaxing just to talk rather than just talk about forms. She's real and not a number cruncher that doesn't relate to people, like a typical accountant. There were several mistakes made and it took us over 8 months for my wife to get her state tax returns. We kept calling and somehow they found excuse after excuse about all the mistakes they made. This year we went My Personal CPA, in Kapoeli, and got 6 times the amount of money there then at Executive Tax financial. We also gave them our previous years returns to see in there were any errors and they got us $1500 back on mistakes made by Ella. They worked on my rather simple return a few years ago.......... The Feds contacted me due to a problem with the return. I had to go back to Calvin and his wife to amend/fix the issue. Penalties and Interest were due. Most recently Calvin and Ella Cole, the owners, again failed to file my return according to IRS standards. Once again I had to return to their office and iron the issue out. (mind you, my return is not very complicated...) After the proper corrections were made by them, THEY wanted ME to go to the post office to re-mail the return back to the Feds. They goofed up, yet in their mind it was my responsibility to re-mail the docs back to the Fed. Plus, I think they charge too much for the service, as I have spoken to others who used them and compared what was charged to then, vs what I was charged. read more

I didn't even know some taxes existed but Calvin explained it to me in terms that I could understand. My appointment lasted 45 minutes: check-in, tax service, and check-out. I was also able to schedule my appointment after work (Wednesday @ 630pm) for me since the hours (at this time) are from 9a-9p on the weekdays.
