Please read the other one star reviews. I agree wholeheartedly and don't understand how a business with such inconsistent service has high reviews. I am absolutely disappointed in this company and have had my taxes done by other professionals. Extreme lack of communication, their online system means I have to do a lot of work to put in my tax information, then they can't follow simple instructions to file. No communication on whether they filed extensions when they did not complete/file on time. I gave all of my information in advance of the deadline and they didn't file my taxes because our invoice was due. (An invoice that was never sent to us and no communication that it was over due). You should trust that your taxes professional has it all covered. It's what you pay for and I don't think we received any value for the over $1000 we paid for our very simple tax returns. They refuse to review the errors in filing as we got a notice that our bank account was wrong for the direct deposit and have not even confirmed that my taxes were filed. The response was "it's whatever you gave us" and that we need to fix it ourselves. What kind of service is that? To date I have no communication on a simple question of if my taxes were filed as the IRS does not have a status on my taxes return. Please help yourself in avoiding the stress of taxes and go to someone that will treat you professionally. read more

i was literally homeless when they made my tax situation far worse then it should have been. i should have paid maybe $1000-2000 maybe in taxes. instead i paid about $30000 in federal and about $8000 in state taxes in 2017 i got a letter from the irs stating i owed money from selling personal things on ebay. i hired them to file taxes in a way this was not for profit, i shouldnt have to pay taxes on personal items with money thats already been taxed. she filed my taxes for me. 1 year later i got the same letter. i let them know i got the letter, she told me to bring that letter in, i dropped it off to the front secretary because she was busy when i came in. over the phone she told me she would take care of it. another year passed and i got the letter again. she asked me to drop it off, i told her "i already did that and nothing happened" at that point i gave up on her even tho i already paid for this service to make things worse for me. i called about 20 other accountants to help me, no one would help me literally with this old tax issue. they all wanted me to have receipts. after 2 years i dont have that and they never asked me at a time i would have. i tried calling the irs which was an estimated 2 hour wait. they too couldnt help. the guy told me (ill never for get this) "yea you just gotta pay. theres nothing you can do". the state never answered their phone once out of about 50 calls i made. their voice mail states they will return your call if you leave a voice mail which they never do. after 8 years they sent me a final levy notice (meaning at this point they will confiscate everything i have) i paid this off because my mom actually gave me the money. my final payment was $19000, plus payments i made before, i probably paid $30,000 in taxes from a time i was homeless. i couldnt find this company because they moved. but i so happen to come across emails we exchanged. one that stated "i am going thru a move" which was the homeless part i was talking about. how does a homeless person need to pay nearly $40,000 in 2017 taxes? i never made over $15,000 that year and the year before. with the help of this company, thats what youll get. and whats funny is, i paid to make this worse read more

I have worked with the wonderful ladies of this company for a bit over 5 years now. I trust them with everything, literally everything. I have multiple businesses and investments which complicates my taxes immensely and yet I never feel stressed on the organization of my financial records. They keep my QuickBooks tidy, my payroll has never been late to my employees, and taxes have always been handled properly. Like any business there have been a few things over the years that have had to be amended or reorganized but the team was always right on it and ready to work with me. Although I do have a few main points of contact over there I have dealt with a large portion of their team and always felt taken care of. Disorderly, non responsive staff despite numerous emails to numerous staff members. They disregard all concerns after being audited, and any inquiries about previous filing. First time using a CPA and I hate that I went with this Kapolei branch. Communication is rough. Called today because taxes were due yesterday and they said they were done with my taxes (never thought to call me), and the next appointment they have available is In 2 weeks. My experience is the same as 3 of my friends. The first time they do your taxes they are fantastic. I had an accountant the first time (3 years ago) and then I had 2 different people the past 2 years ( not accountants but trained to file taxes). I was late to submit taxes by a few weeks but they told me they would have them done by the deadline. I called and followed up weekly the last 4 weeks and each time left a voice-mail to call me back. They never called me back. I got through to someone a week ago who assured me my taxes were 50% done and would be done by the deadline. On Friday I left 3 voice-mail and never heard back. Today I've called a dozen times and left 3 voice-mails and never heard anything back. Would not recommend a business that physically never calls you back. My fault for waiting until early April to get taxes done, but these people had 6 weeks to complete them and never communicated a thing to me since uploading all their documents. I will also be filing a civil suit against them for any penalties and fines I accrued since they promised to have them done on time and never followed through. Horrible business. read more

I've been using Kenyata and her team for the past three years to do our business and personal tax returns, but recently I had to switch to a new CPA. Kenyata and DeShana are amazing! Kenyata is incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and experienced. DeShana is a Quickbooks guru and helped us fix a lot of issues on Quickbooks. BUT the rest of the team is terrible. Everyone else lacks communication skills, customer service skills, and an overall sense of urgency to help their clients. I'll email an admin, a manager, or an assistant CPA several times and not get any response for WEEKS. This year I tried to make an appointment three times and never got an answer. None of them care. I spent hours uploading all my documents to the portal link they sent me, only for them to say they got none of the documents. This was the last straw for me so I switched CPAS. If you deal with Kenyata or DeShana personally the experience will be 5 stars. Everyone else (admins, assistants, and managers) will be 0-1 stars. read more

We have used this team of accounting professionals for over 8 years, and they did, did,, amazing work, and had an amazing staff, both accounting side and counter staff. In the past two years our personal taxes have been completed late and incorrect, They prices went up 25% as well. We have had penalties due each year with no reply or follow up assistance. I'm not sure what is happening with My Personal CPA but I would highly recommend NOT hiring them. After using their services for the past 3-4 years I have taken my business elsewhere due to their complete lack of communication, missed deadlines, botched interaction with the state tax office and overall zero customer service. Good luck getting anyone to take your call or return an email within 24 hours. Over the years the company has become quite "impersonal" and lacks all of the key qualities individuals and businesses require in an accounting / tax preparation firm. Do you know why I have chosen them over H&R Block who used to do my taxes? Convenience, yelpies. It's ALL about convenience, accuracy and quick turnarounds when it comes to tax preparation for me! I can scan ALL my tax forms (W2's, charitable donations, itemized items, etc) to them to review and prepare OR if I'm not pressed for time, I can walk into their office (now located at the Filipino Community Center, Room 301 in Waipahu) and drop off my paperwork. The turnaround time has been amazing and this year...was FABULOSO because Ana was able to prepare me and my hubby's federal taxes today (Hawaii tax forms are not available until January 31) AND I submitted my forms Saturday afternoon expecting a call either Wednesday or Thursday! Along with their quick turnaround, they will also review everything with you to make sure that they haven't overlooked anything or that you haven't overlooked anything too. As a typical Millenium, I do not know how to do taxes. Whenever I look at the tax form, I am confused. I happened to stumble this place when I had a problem with financial aid at my college, and they helped me to their greatest extent. The entire process was made easy. You give them a call and you are given the option of in-person or online when dropping off paperwork. I prefer in-person, but they take care of the rest. There is no stress of doing the numbers and figure things out yourself. They are worth your money! My overall experience: It was the best decision I ever made choosing this place. Needed help doing our taxes because in 2017 we just bought our first house and installed solar panels. We didn't want to just do turbo tax and do it wrong. Didn't want to go to H&R block because someone told me they just use turbo tax too (I'm just saying what I heard, not confirming) Found My Personal CPA and Financial Planner on Yelp. Of course I look at the bad reviews first LOL. I decided to try and contact them through yelp. Let's just say, don't waste your time with that. CALL THEM! They are super easy to reach and were really friendly and informative. The thing I liked was that you can do a drop off or upload your documents online. It was hard not knowing how much it was going to cost doing our taxes because it all depends on what kind of documents you bring in. During tax season they are actually open on Saturday's which was convenient! We recently went in to get our information in regards to our completed tax returns. Marilou assisted us with doing our taxes and Kathy went over everything with us. We sat in their conference room and went over everything on their big screen T.V. I'm really thankful that Kathy helped us understand why we got back what we did and how the new tax reform will affect us. HOLY COW. I am glad we just didn't do turbo tax because we would probably suffer next tax season. Kathy gave us recommendations based off of our earnings and how we can cover ourselves just to ensure that we don't end up paying. Seriously, call them or go in and see them! If you're looking for somewhere to do your taxes or have some extra money to spend (I realize why people do turbo tax) I would definitely recommend getting your taxes done here! Over it! Something not forthright. I had an appointment, showed up on time was told "She's at the post office". After 15 minutes was told she has an "accounting emergency" at a farm on the windward side. Lame! I was ghosted. Was also told the the new tax laws is such that for 2018 there is no tax refunds but the refund is distributed in your income throughout the year, idk but very confusing and misinformative. She was great for the first two years, idk what happened. Now I have to find another more reliable and knowledgable accountant. Anyone know lmk. read more

In 2022 my tax preparation company sold her customer list to My Personal CPA and Financial Planner. I live on the Big Island, and had been using the totally incompetent Nina Hasler of Fiscal Fitness. Due to time constraints, I ended up with this company. Worst tax experience in 53 years of having my taxes done by "professionals". I had to hire another CPA to sort out the incompetent mess from this company. It is now March of 2023, and I'm still dealing with my 2021 tax mess. I have asked twice for my payment to be refunded considering the egregious errors on my returns, but no luck there. I asked for the OWNER of this company to contact me, twice. Of course she is not going to own up to what an incompetent company she owns. This company doesn't deserve even a one star rating. I move back to Hawaii in September. Due to me moving a lot in 2016 and 2017 I hadn't filed my 2016 taxes yet. My previous accountant had did federal tax extension for me in April because of my military status and moves. I'm a huge Dave Ramsey fan so when I found that this place was certified under him, I decided to try them out. They were able to get me in very fast sent Down looked over my books and was able to file me within 1 hour. They were very kind, fast, and professional. I had them file my 17 year old sons taxes too. Compared to my previous accountant that I used for past 10 years. Their prices were about the same and same great service as my other accountant. I will continue to use them to file the rest of my taxes while here in Hawaii. I have a complicated tax filing because I have a property that I rent, I receive retirement, and I'm self-employed. So they were great at handling the complexity of my situation. read more
