Update for 3/27/2020 Super sigh of relief! My new senior tax preparer was a master at her task. Without ever meeting me she went through my Drop Off packet since the recent health crisis attacking the world prevented face to face contact. Although I had heard the government is extending paying for taxes til July 2020 I'm glad my state and federal tax returns were electronically filed in less than a week this past Friday. Joy H. was so meticulous, calling me several times over a period of days to complete my taxes. She was relentless since we had gained a rental in 2019 and had to go back to my 2001 tax return for some answers. Thank goodness I didn't shred them after 5 years. My previous tax preparer did a good job of figuring out our estimated taxes for 2019. When Joy made her last phone call to me informing of no additional payments due I was ecstatic! I have been using H&R block for years but this is my last time using them. They are so incompetent and unprofessional. They switched over to a new computer system thay nobody knew how to use so they ended up not even doing my taxes for MONTHS. MONTHS of waiting and no communication or follow up. I am STILL WAITING FOR THESE TAXES TO BE DONE AND FOR H&R BLOCK TO DO THEIR JOBS. I was told somebody would call me back and nobody ever called me back AGAIN. Worst communication and super competent. No sense of urgency to help their customers. read more

Of all my (about 20) years of working, this is the first time I've ever had someone else prepare my taxes. It was a bit scary but I thought I had no choice. I do have many clients that are accountants and would be more than happy to assist me, I just completely spaced and H&R Block is literally right around the corner from where I work! Since I was on a bit of a time crunch, I didn't care what the cost would be (but really in the back of my mind I DID). The cool thing about the way they operate now is that they have a price list of services they offer and they are able to see what would fit your needs and give a price before starting the service. I simply went into the office, made an appointment and came back when my appointment was scheduled just 2 days later. I was glad I was able to be seen at my convenience and still in a timely manner. The main reason I needed to seek help elsewhere for my taxes this year was because although I have had my business license for the past 12 years, I failed miserably at filing for said business license lol. I got a letter from the IRS and being the horrible "skimmer" I am, I panicked and thought I might have been audited. But of course it just turns out that I did my taxes incorrectly this year and was missing a form or two or maybe more, we shall see! Karla (who was my tax preparer) was amazing at helping me sign on to the Hawaii Tax website online. She really went above and beyond, I don't think anyone else would have helped me even get to the website. So now with Karla's huge help, I can file all my self employment taxes online and pay by credit card (rack up those miles!). I'm pretty sure she said she wouldn't be sticking around with H&R Block so she could pursue her career which she actually has a degree for (good for her!), but otherwise I would've highly recommended her. As far as the charges go, since most of my tax paperwork was already completed, I wasn't charged as much as someone that came in with just a W2. After Karla reviewed all of my documents, she explained that all I would need to complete is a schedule C and a self employment form in order to be in compliance with IRS standards. She let me know that if I would have her prepare those documents it would be less than doing an amendment. Just to be safe, I had her do the amendment and she gave me the price. She also said if I wasn't comfortable paying that price, I could leave with the information she gave me and I could fill out the paperwork myself, then she would just charge me a "consultation" fee. I really appreciated that she was very transparent and upfront with the fees as well as the services provided and she really did take a lot of time helping me with everything! She was very thorough and organized. Placed all documents that needed to be mailed into an envelope in order of which documents were most important and the rest of the documents followed, stapled nicely into a folder with her business card and then into a huge envelope labeled appropriately for safe keeping. I really need to get my life together! But seriously, all I had to do was seal the envelope, stamp it and drop it in the mailbox. Easy peasy, now I'm awaiting a response... hope all goes well! I'm sure it will, all thanks to Karla! It was a relief to me that I could count on H&R Block this year. But also a huge eye opener that 1. I have many resources within my business that I really should tap into! 2. My fears of paying ridiculous fees to tax preparers aren't as bad as I initially thought. 3. I need to start being more thorough with my reading of important documents! I can't speak for the rest of the office as far as tax preparations go, but from everyone I've encountered here, it's all been pleasant. Since my visit was just days away from the deadline, it was very busy and no matter the wait I was just grateful to have a space reserved. So, depending on when you make your appointment, you could expect to wait a while to be seen and also take into account the time it takes to prepare the paperwork overall. In total I would say the initial visit took about 1.5-2 hours going over what was necessary. I was comfortable leaving my paperwork to be finished without me being present so I just came back 2 days later to go over the amendment and final charges, which took another hour or so. I would give this location a zero if possible. Please go to another location if you need an amendment on your taxes due to an error at H&R Block. Joylyn refused to help us as well as state that because we didn't pay for peace of mind they couldn't help us. Proceeded to leave and have the receptionist talk to me and play train when communicating. I asked simple questions and instead of talking to me she told the receptionist what to tell me and so on. They tried to get me to another tax advisor but Joylyn herself is a senior tax advisor. If she didn't know how to help us she could have communicated with us, she didn't even bother to look at our paperwork to see the error. Only giving it one star because customer service was amazing over the phone. Highly recommend the office near kemoos farm. Went today to help with our amendment and they have been amazing. read more

Not sure why the stars are so low; looks like lots of the reviews are older. I had an awesome experience and will recommend this place to friends and family. My agent was Cyndi- she was very knowledgeable and ready to assist. I had property that converted to a rental in 2015. I misfiled so I needed help with my 2015, 2016 AND 2017 taxes. In the end I went from paying taxes in 15/16 to getting a sizable refund. Can't wait to go again next year! read more

Great, friendly and knowledgeable staff at this location. I was able to file my taxes the other day via drop off. When I picked them up the lady at the check in counter went over all the paperwork to ensure everything was correct and that I understood my refund. More than willing to answer any and all of my tax questions. The staff were very conscientious of COVID-19 concerns and had the lobby marked with social distance spacers, everyone had face masks, the receptionist wore disposable gloves and even sanitized the pin pad for the credit card machine before payment. I have been using HR Block for at least the last 7 years in Mililani Town Center, 4 years ago they made a mistake about paying for real estate taxes that was in another state and I was told Hawaii doesn't participate in this new tax law with out of state taxes on homes owned by Hawaii residents. The tax preparer was adamant about a law I questioned her on, it took a year to find and correct her mistake and another round of filings with the IRS. Not even an apology offered for their mistake and not knowing the current tax laws. Okay they are human I get it. Fast forward to 2020 tax returns, they give you your filed return folder with all the materials and your w2's etc. Well shame on me for not checking back in April, so I'm going thru the folder and they have another customer's 1040 filing attached to my 1040 filing! SSN and address , now imagine to my shock that I am missing mine and my spouse W2's with all that financial information and our SSN ! The first person I spoke with is a female who told me she will check and call me back. This was on Monday 7.19.21 @ 930 a.m., no follow up. I call back on Tuesday and speak with another female, she tells me that the lady on Monday wasn't scheduled to work on Monday, wow. And that there isn't any notes that I spoke to her about my dilemma. Then she tells me she promises to go to her Kapolei location and check for me, that's where the records are stored. Today is now Thursday 7.22.21 and still no return call. Talk about unprofessional, I will never go back to this office, as the old saying goes " you get what you pay for". Is there any recourse for their lack of handling and mismanaging of my W2's? I would say probably not, thank God we are honest people and will be returning the customers 1040 packet that was stapled to our 1040 packet. read more

Came in here on a bad personal day, so I was probably talking too much. Staff is professional and helpful. Office is very quiet. Paid $150 (with a -$25 off new member coupon they offered) Not sure if that's a good price or too high, but I'm passing it on. 5 stars because everyone did their jobs just fine. read more

Horrible Experience and Horrible Customer service. Had an appointment scheduled at 2pm when we arrived we were informed that it would be 15-20 minutes late because the tax consultant was running behind. 30 minutes later they informed us it would be just a couple minutes more. Ended up walking out when we were waiting close to one hour. Never again Block heads never again! The only reason I gave them 1 star is cause I couldn't give them any less! read more

Very disappointed, I have been getting my taxes done through H&R Block for the last 24 years and next tax year I don't think I will go back. First of all I don't know a whole bunch about filling taxes this I why I go to H&R Block since they are the expert. The tax preparer didn't listen to me when I said I didn't qualify for certain exemptions and so taxes were filled incorrectly. I received letters from the IRS stating I owed in July. I thought no problem I have paid for PEACE OF MIND H&R Block will help me. Well they didn't help I spoke with a few local representatives, I was told that I must have told the tax preparer that I qualified for the tax credit, it was my fault, therefore I owe, so I paid. I was told I could still appeal and file a claim with PEACE OF MIND, so I submitted my letter to the online website and still have not heard back. I got another letter from IRS recently and called H&R Block this time speaking with a representative in the mainland, she did not see that anyone filed a claim for PEACE OF MIND in July. What a waste of money and false sense of security. Very disappointed. read more

I've been filling my taxes here for the past 3 Years. Service was wonderful. This year we went in and fist off we were assigned to a different agent that usual. So no heads up about that. Then this agent rushes through the entire process. She was horrible. I don't feel as if we for back as much due to her rushing and not caring. Cindy was rude and unprofessional. read more

DON'T go to the Milliani Branch!! Made an appointment- 30 mins later finally got to see an advisor. Patty, Tax preparer, has NO CLUE what she is doing!! Jenny made it seem like we were an inconvenience to her. We ended up leaving - So not helpful or knowledgeable- We will not ever go back or recommend that office!!! read more

i had a first h and r block office in Kunia do my taxes and apparently filled out some form wrong, which ended up costing me an additional $1700 in income tax. the preparer who made the mistake was laid off right after tax season and the particular office closed. so the 800 number said i had to go to the mililani office and they would fix it. i had to call half a dozen times and go there on three separate occasions before they figured out their mistake. then when they did the corrections, they gave me a pre addressed envelope to the tax office it was supposed to go to so i could get the $1700 back. but they gave me the wrong address and also gave me the wrong and incomplete forms and it was sent back to me. i have since called their office 5 or 6 times and left messages for somebody to call me back to fix their latest debacle and nobody has returned the call yet. so i have spent countless hours, spanning over three months, pursuing them to get them to fix their screw up and still have not gotten this mess fixed. So unless you don't mind having your taxes prepared wrong and having to spend a lot of fruitless time chasing after them to fix their mistakes, i would go to some other preparation company. their service is beyond terrible. read more
