My friend and a Golden Massage regular suggested I book deep tissue with Sophia. I did 30 minutes and asked her to focus on my upper left back. Wow, she really worked out all the knots I had, and after my session with her I finally felt relief. They were able to see me the same day within an hour of me calling and the total was $50. Bring cash to pay as this spot is old school. While I won't say it is the most glamourous of spas, it is a great price and they do a good job. It is a little weird the entrance door is all blacked out. In the lobby at the front desk a guy greets me. I tell him I will do half hour as I only want to do my back. This man is a first class hustler because he keeps trying to talk me into an hour and then into 45min. I stick to the half hour as I don't know what therapist I get either way. I am guided to the room and to snap a picture, I try to turn up the light switch. Now did I not know it was the volume button and suddenly I'm blasting spa music in the building:) A man that doesn't speak English walks in. I try to show him where it hurts. He was very friendly. But he's close to a dominatrix because I was in pain half of the time even I asked to be more gentle. I'm bony and my muscles aren't really in good shape so I feel like he will tear something any time. He works fast, you don't feel like time is being wasted. In the end warm towels and hot stones are being used. I asked to put my arthritis cream on the sore spot on my spine and he is very helpful to do so. The massage was 31min long so it wasn't shorter than what you pay for. I got dressed and walked out. I tipped the therapist and then try to handle the rest with the front desk attendant. I show the yelp check in, and he says it's only for hour massages. The yelp check in offer says any so he ends up giving me the discount. I did tip half of that back to him. The front desk is pushing the hustle mentality a little too far. I don't know if it's a Chinese thing but it is borderline rude. I rather find a place where I can come often to take care of my back issues then being pushed into paying more and talked into something I don't want. Service is good depending on therapist you get but if you like deep tissue then you are at the right location for that!

I spent a couple hours trying to find massage appointments for us in the downtown area. It was very challenging on a Sunday so I was grateful once Serenity Spa sad they had availability for the both of us. It was a little further away but I'm glad we were able to check out this part of Miami. Coral Gables is a super cute neighborhood. This establishment was pretty clean. The walls are very thin so you can hear other's conversations, but it didn't bother me as much. I wish I knew my therapist's name so I can book again when in town. I asked the lady their names when I was paying but she seemed a little confused on who worked on us, maybe because of the switching of therapists in between? The rating of the stars is very challenging for me because of all the above factors. I'd say atmosphere is 5 stars. My massage was 4 stars. My partner says 2.5 stars once the second person took over. The second therapist was pretty much just rubbing instead of massaging. She started massaging her face without asking. And did a weird stomach massage without asking. Out of all the massages I've gotten, and I get them pretty often, I've never had anyone work on my stomach. I found that to be a bit odd.
