The experience was welcoming and a relief. It's during reflexology that you really get to the bottom of muscular imbalances and I found I favored certain parts of my feet to others during events like running. Hate to write a bad review about a small business but I think Sakura is deserving. Made an appointment and showed up early and they got me in quickly which was nice. Laid down on the table for my hour massage and within a few minutes a lady came in. There was no music playing until about 30 minutes of the way through. This made it more than awkward, especially considering the chewing noice I heard throughout the entire massage and the other women speaking only a few feet away. The masseuse began by massaging my shoulders. It was clear off the bat that she did not know at all what she was doing. I have an affinity for cheap massages as they usually are relatively decent. However, this was not cheap, and nor was it good. The massage hurt immediately and I like to think I have a high pain tolerance. Next, she got up on the table and started walking on my back. Throughout it, she was walking on my spine and on my shoulders, and I was quite close to believing she was going to break something. It was extremely painful and not in the good way. After 20 minutes of excruciating spine walking (she also walked on the back of my knees), she began to massage my back. This was equally painful and showed even more lack of knowledge. Additionally, she was wearing gloves which I would appreciate, however they were the type of gloves one would use at a salad bar rather than in a massage setting. Suffice to say the crinkling of the plastic alongside a lack of music, made the experience quite unenjoyable. Five minutes before the end, she told me to flip over where she then scratched my head with her long nails. This was ok, but kind of strange if I'm being honest. Without moving to any other part of my body, she told me we were done. She then charged me $70 without even getting a bottle of water. So, needless to say, I probably won't be back which is a bummer because this spot is 2 minutes away from where I live. At one point, another masseuse even came in to help. Although their English may not be the best, they make up for it through service and attention. I was looking for a new massage place in my neighborhood (South Miami/Dadeland) since my regular masseuse is no longer working for the place I used to go. I called in the afternoon because my lower back was bothering me and massage has always been beneficial. A woman who hardly spoke English told me to come in at 5:30 pm. She did not even take down my name. When I arrived there was no place to sit down--the chairs in the waiting room were all covered with towels. I paid. I waited for a while for someone to come in. Finally a young guy--looked like he was in his late teens or early 20s, slovenly dressed in shorts, a t-shirt (not one with the business name on it) and wearing flip-flops, came in. I was really surprised, mostly at myself for not confirming in advance that the person doing my massage was female (as am I). Nevertheless, I was there, so I hoped he might have some competence in giving massages despite his unprofessional appearance. While he seems to have had some rudimentary instruction in massage basics, his "technique" was very rough, insensitive and not particularly systematic. I actually screamed aloud in pain a few times and begged him to be a bit less forceful as he dug into my areas of tension and discomfort in my lower back. Normally I find massages to be over all too soon. This torturous one, without any soothing music or moisturizing massage cream which usually makes a massage such a relaxing experience, at the hands of someone who inspired no confidence, seemed to go on forever. It is by far the worst massage I have ever had. Everyone who knows anything about massage knows how important it is to drink a lot because of the toxins released from the muscles, and every place I have ever been has offered me a cup of tea or some water when the massage was over. Not here! My "masseur" was sitting behind the desk when I left. When I told him that my back hurt a lot more more than when I had come in, he shrugged and told me to go to a hospital. He reminded me to leave him a tip. Although he did not deserve it I gave him $10. (The recommended tip specified on the entry desk was $15-$20). By the time I got home I was in such pain that I had to to put an ice pack on my lower back. It is not like me to disparage a business so harshly, but this one deserves it. I got a very bad vibe before the massage as no one was there for 10 minutes until a lady finally ran out, out of breath, to tell me it will be just a few more minutes. Finally she came out of the hallway, without any sign of a customer and I paid before entering the room. I layed on my back and she began the massage by pulling my underwear down my butt, which I was okay with but startled me, as she didn't ask if I was comfortable with it beforehand. She cracked my back and said "Oh! Yes!" even though silence is expected to relax. She repeatedly ran out of the room, leaving the door open with me half naked inside, and would return a minute or two later. Warning to all those who seek a professional, and thorough massage: this place is a scam. The female staff is deceitful and dishonest -- over the phone and in person! I was quoted one price for a combination foot (reflexology) and body massage. When I arrived, the front desk "manager" told me a different, higher price. I accepted because I had already invested the time, gas, and needed some relief from aches and pains. Then she Tried to charge an additional $2 for simply using a credit card. And, of course, one MUST pay up front first! When I showed her the $10 coupon they posted on line, she simply said that she had already given me the "discount." When I pressed her, she said: "Regular price is $69; I'm giving you for $60." To which I replied: $69 - $10 = $59 NOT $60. The person that gave me the "rub down" did NOT reveal her name throughout the entire time. At the end, I asked her directly. And she said her name was "Coco." I could tell from having enjoyed REAL massage for many years, that this "Coco" gal either was not trained or, if she is licensed, she's simply a BAD masseuse. She was inconsistent in applying pressure, and uneven time on both sides of the body. She had NO rhythm; and was unable to deliver soothing, long strokes to the areas I pointed to. Her English was broken and difficult to understand. She claimed she was getting "tired" because I replied to her question by saying that I wanted strong pressure. The "body rubber" (I can't bring myself to calling her a masseuse) didn't even use lotion or massage oil during the entire session! And, instead of a combo massage, I got just a regular massage with no reflexology (foot) work done at all! Despite ALL this, both her and the Front Desk "manager" were indignant and acted offended when I put down a small tip (as a courtesy). They teamed up to try to make me think that tipping was a foregone thing that was expected and HAD to be tendered! Folks: these types of fake massage facilities are popping up everywhere -- we all need to exercise good judgement and boycott the ones that are NOT legitimate and are unprofessional! And for the Guys: even if you're looking for that "sensual ending," I would think you'd want a half decent massage to begin with!? I've written enough. Buyer beware. read more
