Kristen Bretz is magic. Thanks to my friend who highly recommended her, I made an appointment for 2 weeks later (Call right now! She gets booked up fast!) for their first appointment at 12 noon. I walked into the salon and was blown away by the friendly receptionist and the funky decor. They were so nice! Kristen asked me what I was looking for, and added her own input, and we got to chopping. I love that she listened to me and gave me a cut that flattered my face. I LOVE MY HAIRCUT. It took an hour and change, and I came out a new person. They accept credit cards. Tips are paid in cash. P.S. If you get there too early, go next door to Crema! They have great vanilla lattes.

Nightmare haircut at Exhibit salon by Tracy Vader. She will destroy your hair and then offer you her band stickers to make up for it. I'm now going elsewhere to cut to my shoulders because after 2 years of growing my hair and having photos along with a 10 min consult means absolutely nothing to this "pro". She will not care how bad her work is. I asked for a trim and some layers in the back, how this happened I'll never know. The video was my hair BEFORE her handiwork. I highly recommend letting a toddler cut your hair before seeing Tracy Vader at this salon, she is unfocused, reckless and doesn't listen to your consultation. The salon I'm going to to fix this said they've never seen such a hacked up uneven mess before and sadly there is no way to fix it without cutting more. Very very sad i wasted time and money on a subpar stylist that i trusted.

Lynette!!!!! Not enough good things can be said! Asks enough questions, very attentive, super friendly has given me 2 incredible haircuts that are exactly what I envisioned. Long layers, perfectly framed around my face, styled to perfection. She knows what she's doing. Fell in love with this salon while living across the street and now it's an hour commute via train and I keep coming back because it's worth it!

I followed Drenusha from another salon because I simply can't live without them at this point. They always exceed my expectations and leave me feeling so edgy and beautiful! They've been transparent about my hair since day 1, making thoughtful decisions with my texture and hair history in mind. I have natural 3a-3b curls, but wear it straight always and Drenusha knows how to handle it. On top of that their color jobs are incredible!! I've been a spicy Auburn mami for almost a year now and it grows out soooo beautifully. Don't sleep on Drenusha!!!

Usually, you couldn't pay me enough money to do anything that involves having to take the G train. For Exhibit, I will make an exception. In the two years I've lived in Manhattan, I've bounced around between salons and never really found anything or anyone that I loved. Everything was overpriced and I never walked out feeling thrilled with my cut. Enter: Exhibit and Lynnette the Lady Wizard. First of all, the entire time I was there, one of the stylists had her adorable puppy hanging out. Puppies are always a perk, I'm a sucker for puppies. But four-legged fuzz nuggets aside, Lynnette is the real star of this story. Lynnette was recommended by a friend and she surpassed all my expectations. Girlfriend is the unicorn of hair stylists: friendly, attentive, talented, AND affordable?! I know, I was shocked too. I can be fairly particular about my hair, which is absurdly thick and generally uncooperative, but Lynnette worked her sorcery and I ended up with the perfect cut and some seriously Pinterest-worthy balayage. I will definitely be back. For a cut/color that doesn't break my bank, and a lovely magical goddess with scissors, I guess I can suffer the G train every once in a while.

Words will not do justice to describe the experience I had getting my hair cut and styled by Jessi. I have always dreaded going to salons when I was due for a cut -- especially when working with a new stylist and you have to introduce yourself + explain your hair needs & concerns + share all of your hair dreams & Inspo pics in less than a minute or two -- ahhh! Jessi offers a free consultation with each new client before their appointment to better understand your natural hair texture, your hair goals, and answer any questions. By the time I got to my appointment, I was completely at ease and felt nothing but excitement. She totally understood what kind of cut I wanted and was incredibly intuitive when it came to working with my specific hair type. She really took the time to explain what she was doing, techniques for styling my hair, products she was using, etc. -- what a contrast to every other salon experience I've ever had feeling rushed out of the stylist's chair so they could get to their next appointment! Needless to say-- my haircut is badass. I never knew I could wear this style, but at the same time, it feels like the hair I was always meant to have! And in addition to Jessi being insanely talented, she's just an all around great human with warm, positive energy. I hope she never stops cutting hair in NYC, because she has forever changed my expectations of going to the salon!

Top left corner before, other 2 after. My purrrrr-ple ombré.

She was incredibly kind, took the time to understand exactly what I wanted, and guided me toward the best option for my hair. Even though highlighting is a detailed and time-intensive process, Ava's attention to detail was exceptional! When it came time to choose the right shade, she brought out a color swatch book and walked me through the different tones, helping me find the one that would complement me best. I really appreciated how personalized the experience felt, and I loved being able to look through all the color options myself. Ava is a talented stylist who genuinely cares about her clients and their results. I left feeling refreshed, confident, and like a whole new person. I couldn't be happier with my highlights and would highly recommend her!

I then ended up waiting longer, so my appointment didn't start until 45 minutes after my original time. Due to this, it seemed like my service was very rushed and I was unhappy with how the cut came out. I had to go back in the following week to have it touched up. Also, the salon bathroom smelled awful and the salon gets incredibly smoky and hazy. While this place wasn't for me, it seems a lot of people like it, so maybe it's all dependent on the stylist

It is very close to the Borough Hall train station, close to Jay Street- Metrotech and various other buses and public forms of transport. In fact, I thought the salon was a general spa as opposed to a salon suite of different hairdressers and beauty services. I am used to this type of establishment because I had a hairstylist who worked in a similar space when I lived outside of NYC. There are various ways to enter. My hairstylist gave me a code to enter and you can either call for the stylist to get you up or you can get a QR code. The lobby to the salons are on the first floor while the actual booths are on the second floor. There are stairs and an elevator. There are multiple couches and comfy benches on the second floor so you can wait for your appointment. There are stations for coffee and tea that my stylist told me to take advantage of. There is artwork all over and the color scheme makes it not sterile but not too bright. There is a vending machine onsite but since the location is close to many eateries (chopt is next door) you don't have to worry about access. I had a great time with my stylist Lilian. She came on time. She asked me questions about my desires and goals and gave me recommendations that I can use in my free time. I look forward to using her services in the future.
