Easily one of my favorite rides across WDW property. Definitely more intense than a Space mountain level. I personally think it's the most intense roller coaster in WDW. There are drops, dark portions, twists (not 180 though) and a backwards decline. My best fiend who is not a fan of roller coasters was convinced to try this and did love it. So there something. I personally can't handle like a Velocicoater over in UOR but can handle The Hulk. This far less intense than that. I would do a quick POV if you are visiting with someone who is scared of roller coasters or with small children who may or may not be ready for this one. read more

Having only been to two of the four main Disney World parks, I only had one day and had to decide which park. My son and I narrowed it down to HS or AK. I ended up choosing AK mainly for this ride. I have wanted to ride Expedition Everest for years! My son and I booked a LL for around 1pm, We got there during our 1 hour window. The line was about 15 minutes, much better than the 60 minutes advertised for the stand by lane. There is no indoor (AC) queuing area so I'm glad it was a quick wait. We were to the back of the cars, which didn't bother me. The ride was so much better and more fun that I thought. I was honestly a little nervous as I've noticed as I've gotten older, I don't love huge drops anymore, but wow, loved it!!! I especially loved the portion when the cars go backwards. My son hated that part, but I would have been happy if the whole ride was backwards. This ended up being my favorite ride of the day and I wish I could have ridden multiple times. read more

Thankfully Husband indulges my love for it by accompanying me for the first ride, and acquiesces when I please, please, PLEASE request a second ride when the line is nonexistent to return for that extra ride. When I think of Disney and my childhood I'm always brought back to this ride--a true classic. It was one of the first thrill seeks rides that I was brave enough to go on and to this day I still get the same enjoyment. One of the best parts about this ride is the line is typically under 30 minutes and it's a decent length for a rollercoaster! I love the build and anticipation this ride gives on your emotions and the play on your mind. This was my absolute favorite ride in Animal Kingdom! Although, I have to warn you. That very first climb is very high & steep. You may not want to look down if you're afraid of heights. Haha! It was a very chilly morning after a cold front. What does that mean? Well, it means that you may not want this in your rope drop strategy as your first choice on a very cold morning. It needs multiple test rides without passengers just to be safe. It didn't even open until just before our 8am-ish time slot, with early entry at 7:30am that day. We were aboard our Expedition vehicle in no time. I didn't really have enough time to worry about motion and height. What I will say is that it gave me GOTG: Cosmic Rewind vibes during the backwards ride on the way down. It was the sudden bumpy twists and turns that made me realize it was different. It's not a smooth ride at all. Lol! I quickly laid my head back on the headrest to prevent any jerking motions, and watched as everything passed by so quickly. My husband didn't seem to love that part. I heard him say, "Thiiiiis Suuucks" on the way down. I'm pretty sure that I saw the Yeti twice. It was one time on a screen in a dark part of the mountain. Then, a second time above us. He's looking down at us before leaving the mountain. He looked monstrous at that point. Maybe not as scary as it once was when it was moving (it doesn't appear to move anymore), but it's fun to look for him. The Yeti sightings are real on this ride. I would most definitely ride this one again. It's Lightning Lane worthy in my opinion. It's not just a roller coaster ride. It has a story, and some very cool elements. You'll see that as you make your way into the mountain range. A must when you're visiting Animal Kingdom. read more

This is STILL one of the best rides on Disney World property! Granted, there are some newer rides in Animal Kingdom Park that have surpassed this one in popularity (looking at you, Flight of Passage...). But, that doesn't diminish the fun and thrill of Everest! It's one of the few rides that starts out going forward, then backwards, then forward again! It certainly makes my stomach lurch by the end! But, I haven't hurled yet! If you suffer from motion sickness, though, either take necessary precautions or just be forewarned. That being said, it's a heck of a lot of fun! I don't know if they pipe in very cold air at times or it's just how fast you're going, but it feels like you're on a mountain covered in snow at times. And the monster effects aren't too scary for the wee ones. (There's height requirements anyway). Lines can be very long for this one, so plan accordingly. It definitely helps to have the... um... Lightning Lane? FastPass? GeniePlus? Whatever it's called now!! LOL!! Overall, it's still a five-star ride and a must-do in AKP. read more

A couple years ago, I was going to Disney, twice a year, for all star cheerleading and we had to get park hopper passes for entrance & I HIGHLY recommend! That & getting the fast pass (now known as "lightning pass"). Like the other kingdoms are definitely cool, funky, & fun BUT nothing beats Animal Kingdom, for me. Fun roller coaster, probably best and only other ride you really need to do after the soaring Avatar Flight of Passage ride here - highest but not the craziest initial drops, easy to keep your pack inside the coaster, and you have a mini story around the yeti and you'll go up, down, around, and also backward at one point! A lot of fun, my little one loved it and wanted to go again. There's a single rider line that can get you through if you don't mind breaking up the party. Or get the Genie+ and you can get through in five minutes! Line isn't too bad later in the day (as most people hop to another location, there aren't fireworks at night in this park). read more

And I don't like roller coasters lol Usually I will research coasters beforehand to see if they go upside down, have any twists, etc. I was tricked by the beauty of this Everest Expedition. Little did I know, I was about to almost poop my pants on the sudden backwards drop. lol This ride was pretty scary for me, but again- I don't like roller coasters. Expedition Everest is a Disney animal Kingdom roller coaster and thrill ride that is located towards the back of the park and features a beautiful snow mountain scene for the ride and coaster track. The coaster which is one of the very few roller coasters across the Disney parks is a yeti themed ride. Not based off any movies or shows (be cute to do the snow monster from monsters inc maybe if they decide to commercialize it more) but is still I'd say one of the my kids top 5 rides across all 4 Disney parks. The height requirement is not that tall for a roller coaster which means it has been a few of my kids first ever roller coaster experience and it is a fun one. You ride through the track of the beautiful snow mountain theme and encounter the yeti through caves and eventually a broken track! The. The coaster hits reverse and the thrills really begin. Overall a very fun and popular ride that tells a cute and fun story while riding it. Also while being very popular the wait lines are never too crazy. Maybe 45 min at its peak on most our visits but you can time it right and have less then 10 minutes throughout the day. read more

This is an underrated attraction. It's a rollercoaster that goes forward then back then forward again. It's a nice suspense thriller and the themes are great. Usually the lines r short so u get much better value. Would recommend for sure. Im not giving them 5 stars only because of the new method of virtual queue and lightning bs. Disney if u want money then charge it elsewhere. This new method is total garbage compared to fast pass of old. This is my 4th time and might be my last depending on how the rest of my trip goes. read more

Expedition Everest has always been my favorite ride in Animal Kingdom until now (helloooo, Flight of Passage). However, it's still very fun and exciting and I'm so glad I got to introduce my boyfriend to this wild mountain ride! The coaster is full of fun surprises and *spoiler alert* going backwards is such a unique experience. They have a single rider line which I totally recommend; we walked right on through that line after we did our FastPass ride. Expedition Everest is more thrilling than Big Thunder but less so than Rock 'n' Roller Coaster. Be sure to check out the advertising posters in line - you may find your name being featured as a yeti trek guide! The theming throughout the queue line is really cool and very detailed, there is definitely a lot to look at while you wait. Always good to hit up the old school railroad roller-coaster ride at the parks. The ride is super fun specially since you have a lot of dark areas to make it scary and the ride goes backwards. Good decent speed on the ride with all the thrills. Lines - I waited in the single rider line and it probably took me about 15 minutes to get on. Staff - They get kinda lost on the boarding process as it could easily be faster moving if they had it down and loaded all the trains fast enough. Overall cool tide and worth going on. read more

It's themed as a Nepal explorer, Mount Everest, and Yeti. The stand-by allows you to walk-through the themed area of Expedition Everest. There is a height restriction to ride Everest. It's a two-seat rider. It has a storage unit where you can store items on the ride and consists of a single lap bar. There was barely any wait time when we visited Animal Kingdom for Expedition Everest. Approximately a 5-10 minute wait. My daughter and I rode it about 4 times in a row! The roller coaster takes you through-out Everest. It's a inside and outside roller-coaster. Towards the top of the ride, you can overlook the theme park and see other areas of Disney World, such as Epcot! Part of the ride goes backwards. During the mid-point of the ride, the track switches and you're moving forward again. Towards the end, there is a large Yeti in the dark with bright lights! It's a super fun, thrill ride! It's smooth and fast. The ride has a different feel based on where you're sitting! read more

Expedition Everest is a great ride option at the Animal Kingdom. It is well themed throughout the ride experience. There is plenty of items in cases to read and look at which makes the wait time go by faster. I was able to ride it two times in a 20 minute span. The less you know about the ride the better! I didn't know about the surprise reverse. Going backwards from bright outside to pitch black inside the mountain was great! The second time around gave me more time to see the details. I would definitely recommend this to anyone over the minimum ride height. read more

Expedition Everest is a fun Nepal explorer, Mount Everest and Yeti themed roller coaster in animal kingdom. I thought it would be similar to the matterhorn, but it's definitely it's own type of coaster You take a couple of small descents and loops until you're eventually heading up the main hill and it's pretty steep on the ride versus looking at it from afar. You descend down briefly until you come across a broken track in front of you. This leads to the coaster descending backwards in the to the mountain at full speed in pitch blackness. You pause again to see a video screen of the Yeti tearing up the coaster tracks and heading your way. Of which then you're now dropped going forward to the steepest drop on the ride. You pick up some pretty good speed and there's some fun turns until you're back at the base to disembark. Considering the steepness of the main ascent, I expected more speed but it's full descent is divided into two descent sections. (Backward and forward) The decor throughout the queue line and the ride is very detailed and definitely enhances the experience. It's a definite must ride in Animal Kingdom and I'll definitely be back. Enjoy! read more

As you move through the line for the roller coaster it's pretty awesome they have it set up like a museum with very interesting facts and artifacts throughout about Mount Everest and the Yeti. What really makes this ride unique is the middle section, where your train goes through the mountain in reverse. Overall, the ride is thrilling but not intense; it is definitely a ride that the entire family can enjoy. My only minor disappointment is that the ride broke down on our third ride. BEST ROLLERCOASTER IN DISNEY WORLD!!! This is pre Tron so I don't know about that yet, but this is totally the best roller-coaster Disney World has to offer. Expedition Everest is located in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom. This is one of the few thrill rides in Disney World, so this makes the ride stand out, and a must do every visit! Ride: There is actually a lot to say about this ride. This ride at one time was the most expensive roller-coaster ever created. The top of the mountain is taller than Cinderella's castle at Magic Kingdom. There is a basketball court inside the mountain for cast members to use. Most of the items throughout the ride queue are real items found from Everest and Asia. I guess I'm just trying to say that this roller-coaster is impressive. The whole ride really takes you to a new world. Seeing the massive mountain is breathtaking and really makes you excited for the ride as you hear the screams from other ride passengers. As you listen to the other people having a blast you get to walk through a really detailed exhibit on the Yeti that lives in the Everest caves. There is real hiking gear from there, plus real artifacts found on Everest. There are also a bunch of clues to the Yeti that you need to watch out for. This ride does a great job really pulling you into believing you are about to go on a voyage unto another land in such of the dangerous Yeti. Experience: This is by far the biggest thrill Disney World has to offer currently. This ride isn't for everyone and has multiple warnings and a height restriction. There is good reason to cause this is not a ride you expect to be at Disney World with all of the other dark rides they have to offer. To start you go up a slow track up the side of the mountain that towers over everything. Once you reach the top you find out that the elusive Yeti has destroyed your tracks. With no where to go your whole ride flies backwards down the mountain! This is where the rode kicks into gear. It is such a big drop and you do not expect it to be that far and that fast going backwards. After that you get launched into the rest of the ride. There are a ton of ups and downs, twist and turns, and all around an amazing time! The whole ride comes to an end by you narrowing escaping the Yeti as it tries to grab you! This is one ride you need to try if you are looking for a thrill! Overall: Expedition Everest is a truly unique roller-coaster that is something only Disney could offer. It's themed perfectly and is the best roller-coaster I have ever been on. There is so much to look at and experience that you can go on it multiple times and never get bored. A couple tips for you: - You can ask to sit in the front. You get to view the tracks better but the fall backwards isn't as fun. - You can ask to sit in the back and the fall backwards is the strongest from here. -there is a single rider line if you want to just jump on but the purposely split people up if you try to act like you're not together. -Definitely check out the Yak and Yeti restaurant afterwards for some great food and to keep the experience going. read more

I'm not a huge fan of roller coasters but this one is fun! Traveled to Disney with my two daughters, who are 20 and 18. We've been visiting Disney World for eons and have probably visited a dozen or more times. From the time they were little Everest was a hit with them. I never rode because I didn't think I could handle it. During our trip last summer. I finally worked up the nerve to ride and really enjoyed it. So, of course it was on the list for this visit. We got fast passes so minimal wait in line. If you do find yourself in line, there is great theming to take in as you wind through the queue. They also have a single rider line that is good for people who are by themselves. That's a great way to get on the ride, but you will be sitting with a stranger. read more

Truthfully, the biggest negative about this ride is simply the fact that it is nerve jarring for those with sensitivity to jerky rapid motions and to those that are concerned about flying quickly downhill in an open car. Oh, yeah, and the fact that you are being threatened by a mythical Yeti. Beyond that, this is a great ride. The line spends a lot of time immersing you into a Nepalese environment and building the tension related to the existence of the Abominal Snowman (by other words of course). This includes the presentation of proofs of their existence and helps you to believe that you are entering an area known for their presence. As with everything Disney related, the ride begins from the moment you enter the line and ends with you flying through the mountainous Everest area, either screaming your head off or at least listening to others doing so. Fortunately, in good times, Disney also captures that sheer fright on camera for you to purchase and laugh over years later. My own daughter rode this with me years ago and later told me, "I cried." I was of the opinion that she was just cheerfully tearing up. Nope. Full on panic attack. She cried. Be prepared. It's pretty eventful. read more

There definitely used to be a listing for Expedition Everest but it somehow has vanished into the great unknown! Here we are again with a fresh, new write up for this mega coaster. Expedition Everest opened in April 2006 in the Asia section of Animal Kingdom. You've likely seen photos of it in Animal Kingdom as it makes for some truly gorgeous portrait backdrops with the snowcapped mountains towering over the park. If you want to ride Expedition Everest, you should probably get a fast pass. Lines can get incredibly long though not on the same level as Flight of Passage. This ride has a fun queue to explore but not fun enough to make waiting two hours enjoyable. No thanks, I'm all about the fast pass! This is also one of the few rides where there is a Single Rider line, as well, but with each row having just 2 seats, it's not a super-fast moving Single Rider line like at something like Test Track (which has a 3 person row). They will usually post a separate wait time for the Single Rider line. The whole ride runs 2 minutes and 50 seconds so it's not super short nor super long - kind of just right in length. You climb up a mountain in the Himalayas and then do what roller coasters do best! - dive, swoop, and swirl around, no loops so you're never upside down. There are some tricks and surprises though none of which I will spoil for you! One thing that is not a surprise is you'll encounter a Yeti, the keeper of the mountain! At the time this was built, it was the most complex animatronic Disney had done but that's no longer the case (Hello Pandora!). This ride is not for the faint of heart, but I also don't think it's particular intense. It's just under 200 feet tall (so it doesn't need a blinking red light on top for planes!) with the biggest drop clocking in at 80 feet and a high speed of 50 mph. It's one of my favorite roller coasters I've ever been on as it's so much more than just cheap thrills. Sure, it has some of those, but you race through truly beautiful landscaping and fun surroundings fitting in with the story. This rollercoaster cost $100 million to make so it dang sure better be mind blowing. Best part of the ride? When the train cars come back into the station and blow smoke out their stacks! I always make sure to ride Expedition Everest while at Animal Kingdom and you surely should, too! read more
