I wanted to keep the factory system, but possible upgrade speakers and amp. He let me know that I didn't need to do all of that and I just really needed to add a subwoofer to get the sound I was looking for. I was a bit hesitant because I wasn't sure that would give me the results I was looking for, but WOW it was exactly what was needed. The sound system sounds amazing now. Very clear highs, great lows at any volume. I am only using the subwoofer to about 1/8th of it's ability and it's amazing. The woofer is completely hidden under the cover in the boot of the vehicle, so it doesn't even change the look of the car. read more

I have an older model vehicle that had the original receiver and it no longer worked. I carefully researched and saw that Express Audio had many enthusiastic 5 star reviews which made my decision on who to use ... very easy. With a wad of cash in hand, I went to Roy on a weekend and he installed a Kenwood DDX57S Receiver with a DVD Receiver. Not cheap at all...$820.00 cash. I had it installed in mid January 2021. The installation was done quickly and at the end of the day I drove away very happy. When I turned the engine off and started the car again, I noticed that the time displayed on the screen was incorrect. I was able to go into the settings and modify the time but every time I turned the engine off, the clock would reset to an incorrect time. I went back to Roy and showed him what was going on. He tried to fix the time in the settings but the time would not stay once the engine was turned off. He said he would call his representative and get back to me. I didn't hear from him for a while so I called him back. He said that his representative told him there was a software problem that didn't allow the time to remain correct after the engine was turned off. Roy said that a software fix would be forthcoming and that he would call me back. I kept checking back with him and always the same story... a software fix was coming and that it would be an easy fix. "They would plug something into the Receiver and the update would be performed quickly." I did online research and couldn't find any time display issues on the internet with this particular Kenwood model. I thought this was odd given that Roy said other units that he had installed had the same problem. This checking in with Roy for an update on the "software bug" went on for months. I finally asked Roy if he would swap out the "defective" unit with a new Receiver that I would buy and then I could use the refund from the "defective" Receiver to get new car speakers. He said this would be fine and he would even cut me a deal on the speakers. However, the new Receiver that I wanted wasn't available anywhere! I couldn't find it in brick and mortar stores and I couldn't find it online. Bummer! Because I couldn't get the Receiver I wanted and out of sheer frustration, I decided to call Kenwood directly and find out when they were going to get this software update that I had been waiting six months for!! Their response? "Sir, there are no known issues with the clock on this model." "What a minute, what???" "Sir, there are no issues with the clock time on this Kenwood Receiver." I explained the problem and the tech explained how to fix it through the settings. Within 6 minutes my clock was set correctly and, most importantly, the time remained correct after turning off and restarting the engine. I couldn't believe it!! After that call to Kenwood, I lost faith and confidence in Roy and Express Audio. What took me 6 minutes to resolve in a phone call to Kenwood was STILL not resolved after 6 months with Express Audio. Yes, Roy is a very nice guy. Maybe there is a sales representative that is feeding him a line of BS but why would a rep do that? Wouldn't a rep try to resolve a problem quickly so that he could sell more Receivers? 5 stars again, I wasn't super happy with the sound A) because my car is a Wrangler and B) I went for super low budget speakers. So I actually picked up some entry level Focal speakers (way way nicer than the JBLs) and an 8" hideaway subwoofer. Now we have the EXACT sound we were hoping for and Roy gave me a really good price on installation of the subwoofer I brought. I called these guys up with an unusual situation (an old, junky DVD player ,not installed by them, had fallen down and left me with wires exposed and a really crappy looking ceiling)...anyway! Long story short, I called them up asking them if they could help me out with fixing the wires and installing a new overhead light. The owner of the shop was incredibly creative in how we got this done and helped me find an upholstery place down the street to get a cover for it. All said and done, he was able to get me in and out in an hour after I got all the parts! Such an incredible guy to be willing to help me out like that. I can only imagine the care and precision they take when installing audio systems and other various parts in cars. I also have a piece of window tint coming off so I asked about pricing for redoing that window and it was incredibly reasonable so if I'm in the area again, I'll be booking an appointment to get that done!
