I was looking for a groomer close to my house. The entire staff at Fur Kids/Shady Acres Pet Ranch we're awesome. They were all very friendly and all very happy to see Elroy. They even gave Elroy a little birthday party since today was his first birthday! I highly recommend Fur Kids Grooming if you want to give your fur baby an excellent experience!

Her responses were fast, friendly, and thorough, and she made me feel comfortable about leaving my dog with her. Speaking of my dog... Sadie is 13 years old and quite the grouchy old lady. Her nails were horribly overgrown and I was too nervous to clip them myself. On top of that, she doesn't like to have her paws touched too much (in hindsight, maybe they were hurting her because of her freakishly long talons). After dropping her off, I was fully prepared to receive a phone call about how unruly Sadie was being and that her nails couldn't be done. That particular call never came. The only call I did receive was from Megan letting me know that Sadie was ready to be picked up. I couldn't believe it. She didn't chew anyone's face off? She wasn't being expelled for bad behavior? Nope! I arrived and found my old girl soft and fluffy. Her nails were even ground down much shorter than I thought they could be! In a good way! I received a report card detailing everything that Megan did and how Sadie reacted. Knowing Sadie is sometimes a little rotten (but I love her to pieces anyway), I consider Megan a miracle worker for getting her to cooperate! Megan has a true gift! If you're looking for a fantastic groomer, all of these 5-star reviews don't lie! She truly deserves every bit of praise she receives, so you should stop reading Yelp and start booking an appointment!

The staff were all super friendly and responsive. And they have convenient after hours kennels so you can drop off or pickup outside of their working hours, which is super helpful for a late trip or flight home. About 10 mins from the airport, straight shot on 71. Random fun fact - there's also a great Thai place on the corner when you turn onto the road up to barking springs. Lots of room for them to play with other dogs and run around, inside and outside facilities to accommodate cold or heat, and they get to play most of the day apart from when they are closed for lunch ("nap time") or in the evening after 7pm. My only improvement recommendation is if they would consider doing a report card with photos each day, that would be awesome! I was able to text in and ask about the status of my dog though, and they were very responsive. We will be back!!! Had a great first visit and my dog was very excited when we reached the property, she recognized it from her evaluation day and basically ran over to the front door. Oh also they were extremely kind to help me get my dog in and out of the car.

**Updated Review**…read more Barking Springs Dog Ranch remains my top choice for boarding when I need to travel. My dog loves this place and the staff so much. He always has a great time and returns home happily exhausted. I'm not sure about the negative reviews as I have never experienced a mishap at this facility. I've boarded my dog here plenty of times, most recent visit back in July 2023, and each visit has been pleasant. That said, I have referred many friends/neighbors and each one has had a lovely experience. This facility recently went through a renovation/revamp and moved across the street. While the location is a bit of a commute (depending where you live), it's worth it due to the spacious grounds, on-site staff, and competitive prices. Overall solid experience - I highly recommend!

Ruff Life Dog Walking and Pet Sitting - Dylan Dog Walk Austin, TX

Ruff Life Dog Walking and Pet Sitting

Short story:…read more Rachael is DA BOMB of pup walking and care! We wouldn't trust Dixie and Dylan to ANYBODY else! She's seriously that good, y'all! (Very) Long story: I first met Rachael when my brand-new hubby left on his deployment to Afghanistan last July! As a lot of you can probably imagine, I was freaked out, super-sad, and totally overwhelmed with now having to handle everything in our big house that darling hubby *sobs* usually handled, including pool cleaning, lawn mowing, and dog walking! So, I did what anybody else would have done, and I took to Yelp and scoured the reviews to find a pool cleaner, a lawn mower, and, most importantly, a dog walker for the year! Our precious rescues, Dixie, a harrier hound, and Dylan, an Australian Shepherd, are leash-reactive and rather rambunctious on their best day! We can only truly drain their energy by heroic hubby flying his drone at Camp Mabry, as they chase it across the field for miles. That clearly wasn't going to be happening for a year because my drone-flying skills are very non-existent. Enter Rachael. She walked into our lives and literally changed everything! Our rowdy fur babies took to her immediately, I took to her immediately, and she immediately put a plan together! She was so calm, kind, professional, and competent that I relaxed right away. I just knew that we were in excellent hands! We decided on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday walks, and I handed over our house key without hesitation! Over the course of that deployment year and those thrice-weekly walks, Rachael not only morphed our silly pups into seriously-civilized pups, but she kept an eye on the house like a fierce Mama Bear, brought in Amazon Prime packages, watered plants, scooped poop, dumped the pool leaf basket, drove the pups to grooming and vet appointments, and just took care of anything that she saw that needed taking care of! Dix and Dyl both manifested missing their Daddy in different ways. Dylan, being pretty anxious and OCD, started licking his paws incessantly (Cone of Shame, anyone?), and Dixie, being a champion Houdini, started jumping the fence, and, after I put up fancy 8 foot fences to stop her, she started eating the fence. I honestly wouldn't have been able to maintain my sanity through all of that without Rachael! She worked side by side with me through ALL of that! To call her a lifesaver would be an understatement! So, as I write this, the year has finally ended, and my precious hubby has finally returned safely to me! Thank you, Baby Jesus! He's taken back over the pool cleaning duties and the lawn mowing duties, and we're back to drone-flying at Mabry with the happy pups, but do you know the one person whom we absolutely intend to hang onto from the deployment days? Rachael, of course! She's an indispensable part of our lives now! On top of the three walks a week, she takes care of them during hubby and my frequent romantic staycations, and she just worked hand in hand with our awesome neighbor to hold down the fort during our 8 day honeymoon in Cancun! She's grown her company in the course of this last year, and she has quite a dog-walking team now, but she hires impeccable people, and she keeps a SHARP eye on the whole operation! Everyone that works for her is top-notch! We trust Rachael COMPLETELY with our house and our pups, and y'all should, too! We will NEVER be without her! Thank you SO much for everything, Rachael! We love you! Love, Natalie, Chris, Dixie, and Dylan

Rachel was so accommodating and was able to get my super shy dog to open up to her within a week! She also goes above and beyond, bringing in my mail and trash cans. She was amazing when one of my dogs got sick with diarrhea, cleaning up the mess (and the dog), giving me updates for the vet, giving pills, etc as directed, and even changing her schedule to help let my dog out more often. Her rates are reasonable and competitive in the market. I also was very happy that if she needed to have someone sub for her, she will schedule a one on one with me and that person first. I highly recommend Rachael and Ruff Life. My dogs have been super happy with her service and so am I.

When Cancer Results Go Missing: Our Experience at Sunset Canyon Veterinary Clinic…read more When our dog's cancer biopsy results sat undelivered for three months at Sunset Canyon Veterinary Clinic, we learned the difference between a medical error and system failure that puts pets at risk. Our dog Maddie's biopsy revealed aggressive malignant melanoma with a mitotic count of 3--a diagnosis requiring immediate action. We discovered this critical information only by accident during an unrelated appointment three months later. The clinic's explanation: they had been calling the wrong phone number. What Went Wrong: The communication breakdown had serious medical consequences. Maddie lost the opportunity for immediate surgical revision to obtain wider margins, which significantly reduces recurrence risk. Her melanoma vaccine protocol (Oncept) was delayed by over three months. Most importantly, we were denied the chance to make timely treatment decisions during the most critical window. While Sunset Canyon claims they attempted contact and left voicemails, they were calling an incorrect number. During this same period, my wife called the clinic twice, leaving voicemails that included her correct phone number. She never received a return call. No email was sent. No letter was mailed. The results simply sat in their system until we happened to bring Maddie in for another issue. The Response That Revealed More: After discovering this failure, I expected accountability. Instead, I encountered indifference. No management team member contacted us proactively. When I finally reached Carlos, the office manager, after multiple attempts, he was unaware of what had happened--suggesting no internal review had occurred after such a significant oversight. I requested a written explanation of the incident and their plan to prevent future occurrences. Carlos said he would forward this to ownership. They never responded. The Bigger Picture: Medical mistakes happen, but how organizations respond reveals their priorities. A veterinary clinic should have protocols ensuring families receive cancer diagnoses--confirmation calls, certified mail, multiple contact attempts. When those systems fail, leadership should acknowledge the error and demonstrate corrective action. According to public records, Sunset Canyon was acquired by Southern Veterinary Partners in June 2020, meaning reviews prior to that date may not reflect current operations or management philosophy. I can't prove that the clinic is now run by a mission of profit over pets and people, but you can let this incident stand as Exhibit A. What Pet Owners Should Know: Before choosing any veterinary clinic, ask about their communication protocols for critical diagnoses. How do they confirm you received important results? What backup systems exist when the primary contact fails? Your pet's life may depend on these seemingly mundane procedures. Maddie's care was compromised not by a single mistake, but by a system that failed at multiple points and showed no urgency to improve. Three months of her life--time we can never get back, time when cancer cells were potentially spreading--lost to a clinic that couldn't be bothered to verify a phone number or return a call. Our dog Maddie doesn't know her prognosis may have worsened because of the clinic's negligence. She doesn't understand why her family spent sleepless nights wondering what might have been different if we'd known sooner. She just trusts us to protect her, the same way your pet trusts you. Don't let your pet's life depend on a system that treats cancer diagnoses as routine paperwork. They deserve better. You deserve better. And the next family walking through those doors deserves better, too.
