Staff told my husband the appointment is basically pointless and "it's a reservation but because they are an urgent care they don't have to hold to it." The doctor was sitting outside of our room eating then came in and listened to his back for 2 seconds then his ears then just said "oh it's probably just viral". I sprained my ankle on a Saturday and waited until Monday to visit Urgent Care in hopes that it would heal on its own. In fear of a fracture, I went to this urgent care Monday morning. They took X Rays and determined it was not a fracture, but just muscle/tissue damage and referred me to a Orthopedic Surgeon for further analysis. They prescribed me a walking boot and did not tell me the cost, they just said insurance would be billed. They charged my insurance $300 for this walking boot, which my insurance said they would only cover $80 worth. I don't blame my insurance, as these boots sell for roughly $75 online. This place is a rip off and I highly recommend you go elsewhere. Unfortunately this isn't my first bad experience with them and I wish I learned my lesson the first time around. read more

Overlea did not have an x-ray tech on site so I had to go to another location. Hampstead did and they were great, check in was easy, I was called back promptly and as promised my x-ray results were back before I was ready to go. Came in for the flu, waited 5.5 hours total to be seen as a walk in (15 patients on the board before me) and had to come back 3 days later for an extended doctors note due to working in a hospital and still being contagious to patients. Signed in online this time for "express" service. Wait time 2 hours and counting. 7 patients in the entire building. This is crazy Update, after 2 hour wait time finally saw the PAC. She refused to do any type of examination, told me I was not contagious because I had no fever (which I never had in the first place). I pointed out the CDC recommendations of 5-7 days from onset of symptoms and the fact that not all flu patients have fever according to evidence based sources and she became very rude to me and left the room. This place is a scam, run away as fast as you can. Patient first is much much better and significantly faster as well. read more

Unfortunately i was disappointed in this place last night. I was in a minor "fender bender" at 3 pm yesterday. Around 630-7 i started to get really sore. I went to express care with my insurance card and they said they would not see me unless i filed a claim with my auto insurance provider. This has nothing to do with my auto insurance. They clearly did not want to treat me because they were closing at 9. So, they watched me hobble back to my car. I will be mentioning this place to my lawer when i see her today. I had to visit Urgent Care tonight, and unfortunately it was a half hour before they close. I normally don't do that, but did not have much choice. I was expecting to be pushed through quickly and receive less-than-stellar service, but to my surprise, that was not the case. Each person was very friendly and helpful, they listened to me and it took a total of 30 minutes to sign in, be seen, and check out. So, about a month ago my wife thought she had broken her foot. I called ahead to ensure they do xrays and checked in online as I was directed to do. She arrived precisely when the site said her appointment was-- she sat in the waiting room for over an hour. It could have been a fluke, busy night, someone called out-- whatever. Stuff happens, we thought giving them another shot was worth not driving to the next town. Tonight, similar situation, fearful that my wife may have the flu, I called ahead to see how busy they were and checked in online. They told us they were pretty empty and gave us a time of 6:41, we arrived 10 minutes early. And, despite not having to do much pre appointment busy work and a pretty empty room we are still here and still haven't been seen 40 minutes after we were told to be here. We were finally seen at 7:23- those are 40 minutes of our lives we could have spent doing so many more important or rewarding things, 40 minutes my very ill wife could have been in her warm bed. Why create the expectation of "express" service or "urgent" care and why give us a time that you know full well you will be unable to meet. Why not just tell us "expect a 40 minute wait even tho you checked in online" that would be fine, we'd deal with that but by creating an expectation that you cannot live up to no matter how good the doctor is at being a doctor we're gonna be soured on the experience. But the doctors, they aren't awesome. Why would they be, who goes to medical school hoping someday they can land a job in a strip mall next to a kfc? There's lots of these places, I'd highly recommend going to another one even if it means driving a little ways-- I will do everything possible to never return to this establishment for as long as I live in the area. read more

I visited this site on Tuesday morning. I used their kiosk to walk-in sign-in at 10:30am. I sat for almost 3 hours before being escorted to a treatment room. A tech came in and took my vitals,then waited half an hour to see a PA. She spent all of 2 minutes. She requested an Xray to determine what antibiotic to administer. A while later the PA returned with her recommended antibiotic. 4 hours later I left with a script. There was a sign on the inside of the exam door suggesting a visit here would be faster than an ER visit. I would take exception to their name "Express". They schedule online appointments every 6 minutes. That means walk-ins are constantly pushed back until there is an opening. (4hours) Don't do walk-in and expect to be seen in a timely way. read more

Typically I don't write reviews for doctors/medical/etc but this place was great. The wait is always horrific at urgent cares so I wasn't phased by that. The whole building is very clean. The staff was incredible and very sociable and listened to what I had to say. I do not live around here but the drive was definitely worth it. I will definitely be back. read more

Made an appointment for the Express care in Hampstead. My appointment was for 10:20. Was put in a room at 10:30 and seen by the MA who did a swab for the flu. Everything up to this was wonderful. I was then left in the room for 2 HOURS! No one ever checked on me the whole time! I decided to leave. When I opened the door, the dark haired older woman said, "Can I help you?" to which I responded that I had been in there for 2 hours. She said "well sorry we had 2 emergencies come in while you were in the room. Really??? I'm that unimportant that you can't communicate that? The front desk people are extremely rude. They said in front of my face that I "didn't even know why I was here"...like what?? Im there b/c I'm sick like everyone else. I also showed up early to my appointment and my name did not appear on the sign In iPad. I asked the front desk person to check me in and she proceeded to give attitude and say "ur to early for ur appointment obviously that's why ur name wouldn't show up" sorry for being punctual. So happy we have an urgent care center locally now! I overall had a very good experience when I brought my son in. It is very new, clean and neat. The wait was longer then I anticipated or wanted. I waited an hour and it was not that busy. I came in as a walk in and didn't realize that you can check in online. So as we were waiting, the online patients were able to go ahead of us. So that was kind of annoying. Once we finally got called back they immediately ran the necessary tests. The doctor was in with the results and check up within 5-10 min. She was thorough and nice. she finished she gave us the paperwork and we were out the door. Next time I will check in online. read more

After a shoulder replacement operation at a downtown Hospital, I needed a bandage replaced with gauze and tape on a 7" scar, on Sunday July 25th. On Saturday around 3.30pm we went to Express care in our neighborhood and asked, if they could do that for me, as the scar is on my dominant side and my husband is absolutely not trained to do such things. The attendant told us, that yes, we could come on Sunday, early afternoon and we did so. After signing in at the kiosk and waiting for about 20 minutes, we were called to the desk. The attendant and another person told us, that they could not do postoperative care at all! Wonderful! What do we have this office for? I wanted to have exchanged a bandage by a nurse in a clean place. This would have been easy business for them. We wonder if other Urgent care institutions have similar guidelines. I am so happy to have friends who did what was needed. We saw that this office already does not have a good rating. We will not use their service and do not recommend this facility. This place is absolutely horrible. I never write reviews, but I am so upset by the situation that happened with my daughter. I went in yesterday after my 2 year old daughter was screaming in pain saying her arm hurt. I went to this establishment, had Xrays, and then the PA said she was fine, as the xrays did not show a fracture and sent her home with a splint. This is after waiting for over a half an hour while my daughter screamed in the waiting room. My daughter cried ALL night in pain so we went to the ER to get a second opinion. The doctor there immediately diagnosed her with a dislocated elbow and fixed it within 5 minutes. My daughter suffered in pain for an entire day because the PA did not know what she was checking for. I'm disgusted and disappointed in the level of care and will never come back or recommend this place. read more

Also, I made an appointment for the Hampstead location (it said "Hampstead" at the top of the page) but apparently the appointment goes to Mt. Airy. This review is surprising, given the speedy check in and unusual wait time. We were called back rather quickly but our good experience ended there. The initial assistant that we saw gave no notice of what she was going to do and immediately stuck a thermometer in my four year old son's mouth without asking or consulting me the parent. My poor son who is already sick with fever ended up vomiting all over himself, as a reaction to the thermometer being shoved in his mouth. To add insult to injury, she then asked me to have my son urinate into a cup to check for dehydration. When I asked why, she explained that she needed to check for dehydration because he vomited not taking into account that it was her actions that indeed caused him to vomit in the first place. My son and I attempted to have him pee in a cup but it was rather unsuccessful. Upon returning the doctor said it was okay and that we didn't have to do that which really seemed like a complete waste of time. Back in the room we then had the doctor and both assistants in the room, now checking to see if my son had strep throat. At this point nobody had bothered to look in his ears or in the back of his mouth - they were jumping to doing a test before giving him a proper examination. Also, please keep in mind that my son is still has vomit on his clothing. My son at this point was eager to go home because this was not a good experience for him, didn't want the back of his throat swabbed because he was probably concerned that he would be vomiting again. It was only then after that they had actually done the swabbing, did they ask me then if I wanted the sample sent for testing. Please imagine for one moment that you are an ill, four year old boy and you have this experience at a medical office. This visit and how it was handled by the medical stuff was ridiculous. What should have been a fast examination - for both ears and mouth and a follow up with appropriate medication- did not happen. read more

I was thrilled when Express Care opened a branch in Hampstead this past January or February, a stone's throw from my house. Even though I had never used an urgent care center, I didn't relish the thought of having to travel to Westminster in the event I would ever need to. Because my PCP's office couldn't see me for 7-10 days (typical! ... extremely irritating!), I finally needed the services of urgent care on July 10 (mild ear ache ... which I get from time to time in this particular ear because my shower or bath water doesn't drain out of it). As Loredana M. stated, Express Care in Hampstead is beautiful. The employees' bedside manner is OK ... nothing worthy of a complaint but nothing to write home about either. I walked in without an appointment, without checking in online first. I walked in at a good time because I was the only patient in the waiting room and I was seen within 15 minutes of my arrival as soon as the preceding patient in the exam room had been taken care of. I was diagnosed with swimmer's ear and prescribed ear drops ... the same ear drops that sometimes work and sometimes don't (I'm not blaming Express Care for this ... they're the same ear drops my PCP prescribes). I do, however, have a big complaint about my experience here on July 10, which is the reason I'm submitting a review. The tech who checked my blood pressure totally botched the job ... something as basic as checking blood pressure! He must have used the regular size cuff - when it's clearly obvious my arm requires the larger size cuff - because, once it was pumped up to the max, it was so tight I saw stars, I thought I was going to pass out from the pain. When he removed the cuff, my arm was red and extremely sore and tender for a good 15-20 minutes afterwards. Never in my life have I ever had this experience when my blood pressure was being checked. And, to boot, the top number of my blood pressure was 157 ... when it's always been 120-something to 130-something. Two days later, on a walk-in basis, I had my blood pressure checked at my PCP's office, just to be on the safe side, and the top number was 120-something. I was told there using a too small cuff will skew the reading to higher than accurate. Will I ever go back to Express Care in Hampstead? Yes ... but only because I'll have no other option. As I've said, my PCP's office cannot accommodate last-minute patients who need to be seen that same day or the next day and I'm sure the urgent care centers in Westminster are no better than this one in Hampstead. And it's silly to go to the ER for minor stuff like a mild ear ache (not to mention, insurance won't cover the ER bill when the issue could have been handled by urgent care). Another thing I don't like about this particular urgent care center (but the same may apply to all of them, I don't know) ... there are no medical doctors on staff here ... not even any nurse practitioners ... all they offer are physicians' assistants. read more
