Had a bunch of oil products built up in my hair and she made sure to take her time to thoroughly wash my hair before my silk press. Ok, Damien here and I wanted to share an amazing experience my son and I had here. He had free-form dreads and wanted braids, which required massive detangling. I spoke with Laurie (I think it is her name, blame the mind, not the heart if incorrect or misspelled) and while taking care of multiple clients, she assisted us through contacting other stylists for assistance. Wait. It gets better. So, another stylist, Katrina (again apologies if misspelled) and her client also began assisting us. My son took suggestions from both Laurice and Katrina which he is very happy with the results. Lastly, Ray the barber took care of my son and cleaned him up so well, many at the salon complimented him- Funny story to complete and compliment this review. Later on, while at work my son was approached by two customers who made it a point to tell him how handsome he looked. If it takes a village was a vibe, Expressions is surely the example. I called the Salon because I was in desperate need, my hair was really damage and needed some TLC. Niecy took me as a walk in about 30mins later, wash, shampoo'd, & condition'd me up. She gave me a good trim (my ends needed it bad). After the trim, I realized I didn't like how thin my hair looked. Niecy applied tracks in for me for thickness. It was definitely what my hair needed. I had a such and inconvenient experience here. I found @yannaonthebraids via Instagram and loved the look of her work. She overslept and stood me up on my appointment. I drove a little under an hour to be on time to a 9am appointment, that did not include any hair care (shampoo or conditioner).Only to be notified 15 minutes past the appointment time that she overslept her alarm. When I asked around what time she could make it to the shop she said 2.5 hours later at 11:30 and that her sister just asked her for a ride so could I also wait for her to do that too.. The thing about a braid service is that it is usually time consuming. So to unexpectedly start 2.5 hours LATER really inconveniences the client. Making it impossible to keep any other plans that may have been set later. She offered to take half off of the price for me to come the next day, which I did not have available. I asked if I waited until 11:30 for her to arrive if I could get the same discount for the wait, she said no and that she would only take some off. I asked for my deposit back. She then let me know I would have to wait for 30 minutes for her to get dressed and go deposit money in the bank. I paid my deposit in Cashapp which we agreed she would send the refund back into. It took her an hour and a half to return the deposit and she sent it into Apple Cash which I did not have. So I also had to set up Apple Cash to recieve the deposit back. This was my only day off for the week. No other braiders were available last minute same day to do the same quality work I had scheduled for. I have been GREATLY INCONVENIENCED. I have to now do my own hair which is going to take me triple the time to do compared to sitting for an appointment with someone. I'm so disappointed in everything about this experience, she didn't even have the decency to send the deposit back into the app which she received it! This is the type of experience that gives all braiders a bad name. Someone who does not take responsibility for showing up, being prompt, or professional. What a let down. If I owned this shop I would NEVER want to be associated with a braider like this. read more

Today I took my daughter to Expression Hair Lounge. This was the first time she has ever gone to a beauty salon. The setup and vibe of the lounge was absolutely beautiful. Immediately she was excited. From start to finish, our hair stylist Nece, was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. She explained everything she was doing and gave fantastic advice for the upkeep of my daughter's hair. The final results of my daughter's hair was breathtaking. This salon is a gem! Our appointment was cancelled literally hours before we were about to show up I called Expressions and Latice was able to get my daughter in for braids. She is so amazing and very gentle and treats my daughter as if she were her own. Latice takes pride in her work and braids with such precision. Just had a immensely unprofessional experience with @hairdonebyyanna A friend referred me to her so I thought I was in good hands. I reached out to her letting her know I was getting ready to book my appointment and initially she was responsive with confirming that this was her number. And we touched very briefly on the style I wanted. After that I asked if I was confirmed for my appointment date and I did not receive a response, and this was after my deposit was sent. On her website it's protocol for customers to receive the address right after the deposit is made. But I did not receive it. The next day goes by I ask her again if I'm confirmed, NO RESPONSE but I see her posting on her insta story which at this point annoys me. You were responsive when you were eager to get the deposit but I'm a paying customer that has questions and now you're ghost??? I also attempt calling her which results in the phone hanging up. So I do a refund request through cashapp because at this point I'm feeling scammed. I also reach out to my friend who gets his hair done by her, and he said that she's extremely bad with communication and even sent him to the wrong location before and his drive is not close, Neither is mine. I'm coming from Lancaster all the way to Long Beach for a service, you would think instead of posting on IG she would take literally 2 seconds out of her day to confirm my appointment and answer other questions I had. Today which is Monday she FINALLY responds confirming my appointment but not acknowledging any of the other texts that I've sent, not even an apology. I hate to say it but the incompetence when it comes to black people and doing business is off the charts. I planned on going to her every month because I liked her work which would have been alot of money in her pocket. But her lack of responsiveness and professionalism was a turn off. I understand how non stop it is for hairstylist but if you're that BUSY hire an assistant to get back to customers that have questions. There's NEVER an excuse for BAD service. Tanisha is amazing! She was nice patient and attentive via phone and even more amazing in person!! I cut my sister locs off after 16 years, pretty traumatizing! I hated the mom cut I got and she shapped and fixed me up pretty nicely! I've never had short hair before and she coached me through it, suggested styling products and even helped me with my thinning problem! Seriously Tanisha is amazing and I plan on going back for braids once my hair gets thicker and longer! First and last time going in there. I called in to see if there was someone that can do my hair. A lady called me later that day and we briefly talked about what I wanted done. Made an appt and I came in a few mins early and Ofcourse she was doing someone else's hair. I tried being very patient but she started being rough and heavy handed. I spent a few hours in there and realized after I left I would never go back. The lady that did my hair did not clean or sanitize any equipment. The brush she used on my hair was filled with product which means they use the same edge brush on everyone's hair which is so unsanitary! Yuck! The lady was eating in between doing my hair which was so unprofessional and also while waiting for my hair to dry she was doing another lady's hair. I like to be fair even though the service was not good so I still tipped her because of her time but she never said thank you and I realized that's just how they are in there, entitled and unprofessional . And frankly she didn't deserve my tip. Lesson learned to not reward Mediocre service! Overall, don't think this is a professional salon. And the lady who did my hair was not that great, she didn't have the gentle touch that some people have. Just rough and aggressive. Won't be back. read more

I found this hair salon on Yelp and am so happy I went in. I'd needed someone who was good with short styles and I wasn't willing to settle. I called Christi on Wednesday and went in on Friday and was there a total of 3 hours which is good in my book. The shop is very clean including the restroom, the staff is uber nice and the price that I paid was great too considering the quotes I'd been getting from other stylist. My hair cut is amazing. She scissored and layered my hair like no other! I'm into relaxed (comfort) styles so my hair looked even better the next morning after wrapping it. I will definitely be going back for my next appointment in February. Its a positive atmosphere most importantly and they also have 2 male barbers, and other stylist who does others types of hairstyles like weaves and braids. Oh Christi also offers 'Waist Beading" which is Traditionally worn under clothes by African women, waist beads have several different meanings. Ranging from rites of passage, to enticing your husband to healing and rejuvenation.. In Egypt, waist beads were called "girdles". All the women wore them and it was a uniform for pre-pubescent girls with out any sexual connotation. I started coming to expression because I needed a stylist that could wash and style my weave. The stylist who did my hair was Ty. The first and second wash and style was amazing. I walked out feeling like a diva!! I received so many compliments on the way she styled my hair! (Weave not done by Ty) When it was finally time to take my weave out (done by someone else, not Ty) and get it re done, I decided to let Ty put my weave back in. Ive been going to the same person for years to get my weave done and I love the way my person does my hair. But this time, I decided to try Ty's skills. On the day Ty did my sew in, I was in the shop getting my hair done close to 7 hours. The longest ive ever been in a chair for a weave was 2 1/2 hours. (Boy was I tired!) She installed my weave and cut it in a bob. The finish product was flawless. I must say, she has skills. But although a stylist is good at their work does not mean that stylist is right for you. Ty charged me $200 for my bob but she waived the fee for the cut because I was in her chair so long. That was nice of her, I guess. Unfortunately, I had to take the weave out after a week. My cornrows were way too tight causing headaches and my edges are now thinner. Its now four weeks later and I still have the little bumps around the edges of my hair where my hair was pulling. I also have sores throughout the middle of my head as well. That was my last visit to expressions. My natural hair is more important than the way the weave looks. Everyone in the salon are very friendly and will have you laughing. Very good environment vibe. The salon is kept up, very clean and pretty inside! I never returned to expression due to my own preferences. Ive decided to stick with the person ive been going to for years. After expressions, I lost way too much hair and there are certain parts of my hair that are shorter than the rest. Unfortunately, they're just not right for my needs. read more

Every time I come here it is a great experience. I have a few hours to relax and let my favorite braider LATICE STYLEZ do my hair. I am a very picky person (I can be annoying I know) when it comes to my hair and Latice never disappoints. I love that they provide wine and water. It definitely adds to the "me day" experience.
