If you're in the LA area, I highly recommend. The manager is super sweet over the phone and in person. The stylist I had did exactly what I wanted and the color is spot on. If you have anxiety about hair cutting, my stylist triple-checked the length I wanted, and the bangs they cut are so so even. The price is reasonable for the length of hair I have but I think it's cheaper if you have short hair. I was worried my hair was gonna turn out jet black but the color is a neutral black with warm undertones. Would come again! read more

Was hoping to go here to get a nice haircut here after seeing some good reviews. I had to make a $50 deposit beforehand. Although I had ran into a family emergency at home, the day of and I couldn't make it to my appointment on time. I was hoping to reschedule with the money I had already wasted, which I thought was more than enough. But Rachel believed otherwise and was not understanding of my situation and requested another $50 which is insane, especially In today's economy!!! If I could give more than a 5 star rating I would do it in a heartbeat. I have been seeing my stylist Michelle for the past three years and have followed her wherever she goes! It's always a great time getting my color done by Michelle, but Once Michelle moved to Salon Medusa, the experience got even better! She does such an incredible job of making you feel taken care of and greeted with a smile! Even now during COVID I feel 100% safe, and the precaution that they take as soon as you enter the door eliminates any sort of worry or concern. I am very grateful the owner took me in for a same day appointment. The environment is pleasant and I was offered a tea with orange slice, mint, and biscuit. My hair stylist was courteous. Everything felt a bit out of sync. I arrived a couple min early for a 35-40 min appointment, and was told I was done with 15 min to spare. My rating is for the price, value, and business' failure to set expectations. Understood that on their website and brochure, a Blow Dry & Style start at $50+ and depends on the client's hair. I have long, thin hair. I got a shampoo, conditioning, and blow out. I wasn't offered a style, and getting a curl costs extra (at least $25+). My hair was slightly damp at the scalp when I walked out. With mention of their Yelp offer, the conditioning was supposedly free since I was paying for the Blow Dry & Style service. It cost me $80, when I could get the same (with a curl) for $60 in Irvine. I was disappointed in what I got for the price. Yikes. read more

I am a guy and had been growing out my hair for like, a year, so I wanted to elevate from my normal barber shop to a place that worked more with long hair. I popped in when walking by and they gave me Severina's card saying she was their resident guys-with-longer-hair expert. I texted them and they got back to me right away with an appointment and answered all my questions. When I had my appointment they really did a great job figuring out what I wanted/needed to keep my hair going in the right direction but cleaning it up. Nothing drastic. They were very friendly and I was happy with the result. I was worried whomever I let cut my hair after so long would totally butcher it but luckily my worries were unfounded. EDIT Jan 16, 2020 Started off as a bad cut I could have forgotten months ago... and now here we are. See attached photos for original review. Curly girls won't find help at this salon I guess. A few weeks after I posted this review, Kelly, the manager reached out to me. She apologized profusely for the inconsiderate services I was rendered and took full responsibility for what had transpired at the salon. She offered me a "free cut/style and personally delivered basket full of products if I would just give the salon one more chance." I was extremely humbled by the offer and accepted, while letting her know the next time I have a paid photoshoot I will reach out. There was no time limit given for this offer. I called her about a week ago to redeem the offer and we set up an appointment. Unfortunately, she called me today to let me know that she spoke to the owner to tell her about the situation and after the owner reviewed my Yelp account decided that it was not worth it to follow through on their previous offer. I asked her if this meant the owner, Sylvia, was worried that I wouldn't update the review to be more positive? She said she had no idea, but wouldn't she want to clarify before reaching out to me? Furthermore, isn't the issue here about ensuring a satisfactory customer experience rather than simply protecting your online reputation? I sincerely--and maybe naively--was under the impression that they wanted to rectify the wrong that was done to me personally, not simply to raise their star rating. ESPECIALLY since their employed stylist at the time used racist language liberally (as stated in my below review). She went on to say the timeline was just too lengthy. I understand that, which is why I never contacted the salon for a refund when I posted the review. I explicitly detail that my cut was in April despite my review being posted in September--and they still reached out to me. Seems silly that now the timeline is the main issue. I asked if there was anything else we could do to rectify the situation. She said, "No. Were just not a good fit for you." Okay. I never asked to be given a free services or products. I was following up on an offer... why am I now being berated for doing so? On top of that when I asked for the owner's last name so I could follow up with her directly--mid-question Kelly hung up on me. I cannot emphasize enough that I didn't ask for anything. At this point, I just wanted to follow up on their offer. I now feel (so many months later) like the event is fresh all over again. Kelly went into my information in their system and arbitrarily reached out to me using contact information that I didn't even provide for this particular use. Then she started victim-blaming me by stating all the things I did wrong in this situation--but I never asked for anything, they offered and gave ZERO timeline for the offer's expiration. I have a few questions: 1. Wouldn't any kind of review of my account be made most logically BEFORE extending an offer? 2. Why is providing me proper customer service contingent on the state of my Yelp account when I was definitely mistreated in their establishment? 3. Why wouldn't the owner be notified before extending the offer? 4. Why extend an offer and provide yet ANOTHER negative experience I didn't ask for at the expense of my time AGAIN? I sincerely feel mistreated, & I really am sad about all of this. I wish they hadn't reached out to me at all to begin with. I called today to ask a simple question, which was "how much do you guys normally charge for a haircut" and the lady who answered the phone very rudely responded "75 to 100". Then I proceeded to ask "how much would it be to cut split ends"then she said a trim is a haircut. She could have said it better and in a better tone. Salon Medusa is my go to place when I need my nails/toes done, a cut, or color. Everyone I've came across here is very friendly and attentive to my wants and needs. I love the way everyone takes their time here and doesn't rush like other places. Tanya does great nails and facials. She's sweet, honest, and very professional. I've only gotten manicures, pedicures, and gel, but I've witnessed her do a Acrylic and it's nice too. Book an appointment with her and you won't be disappointed. She does great individual lashes too from what I've seen, but I haven't gotten them done before. Eddie is my go to stylist. He is sweet, caring, and extremely talented. He only works certain days so make sure you call ahead of time and request him. As for the rest of stylist staff I've never had the pleasure of working with them but they always seem to have a client in their chair when I'm there so it must be a good thing. Ambiance- the salon is very modern and and clean. They sells and use only Aveda products. I love Aveda, and most items are available in store if not they can order it for you. I know it's cliche, but you really get what you pay for. Parking- is on the street in front of the salon or in the alley behind the salon and is non-metered. Tips- make an appointment or make sure to call in prior to coming so you won't have to wait to be seen. read more

When I moved to Bixby knowls I started going there and had a wonderful stylist named Blue. I showed up for an appointment one day and was told he was no longer there and that I was informed of that via voicemail. Which never happened. The prices are way over charged and the quality of the service is well beneath. I did roots color and a blow dry. It was $105 the average price at a salon anywhere in Long Beach is 60 to $80. Very disappointed my daughter's hair was cut at this very shaggy she had curly hair and he used of loose tooth comb to cut her hair. Will never go back!! read more

I will follow my girl Michelle wherever she goes! I love Salon Medusa! Yesterday I got to try Aveda's Botanical Repair three-step treatment, and let me tell you, it is so amazing. I don't have damaged hair like you'd expect from using bleach and ammonia dyes, I rarely use heat on it but do notice a difference in the ends a while after a haircut. I still wanted to try it to see what it could do for me. I left with the masque on and rinsed later at night and the experience was incredible. My hair feels like my toddler niece's hair! So smooth and soft. Not the kind of softness you get with leave in products or shampoo+conditioner. Each hair shaft feels smooth and sealed. My hair as a whole feels light and conditioned, it even moves more freely. I plan on going back for this treatment. Anyone who dyes, bleaches, straightens, and blow dries their hair needs to try this. read more

Long gushing below: Erin did both hair and makeup for me and she knocked it out of the park! Truly exceptional, especially as I don't do makeup very often and definitely couldn't describe properly what I wanted. She was able to get the natural look I wanted for my makeup, while still looking a bit glamorous and fancy for my photos, and absolutely stunning updo. She is also super sweet and receptive to adjustments I wanted! I didn't get to interact much with Eddie and Blue, who did hair and makeup for the others, but I saw the final from that and it was so lovely! I walked by this place several times and decided to try it out. This was before I discovered Yelp... Anyway, the person they assigned to me just finished her stint as assistant and didn't have much experience (at least I HOPE that's the case). She PULLED my hair as she combed it through. Not just yanks, but pulling hair out of my head. My hair is wavy and every stylist should know that you start at the bottom with a wide tooth comb, but not this one. She started at the top and forced her way through it. Then she says to me, "Do you see how your hair tangles so easily?" What I thought to myself: "No SH*T, I can FEEL IT WITH YOU DAMAGING MY HAIR FOLLICLES." What I said: "Yeah, it's wavy. " I felt bad for her so I didn't say anything like, "Let me comb it myself you incompetent ______" I also decided to get a dye job, I specifically stated that I wanted to go darker PERMANENTLY but she didn't think this was a good idea. She used a semi-perm brown that faded out in two weeks. Anyway there was no manager on site to politely bring this up with. Maybe some of the other stylists are better, but the one I got was BAD. read more

I was looking for an item for my daughter that I did not see on the shelf (for the face,not hair). An older lady came to the front to assist me. When I told her what I was looking for she said "we don't have that.", and proceeded to walk away. I was in shocked as I felt she "dismissed" me from her store. She then proceeded to say "I think those are discontinued" . You think? Now being irked by her lack of c.s. skills I then responded "Aveda has them online. I'll purchase them there."
