I try not to give many negative reviews unless it is absolutely necessary. So, after some careful consideration I decided that this establishment had to be exposed for the betterment of humanity. Take caution reading ahead because this review vill contain blunt statements. Do yourself a favor and peruse all the critical reviews before making a decision to go here for any type of service. This salon has been getting several low reviews for at least 15 years now. The atmosphere is negative. The staff of licensed stylists keep leaving. Plus, vorst of all, the unprofessional and degrading behavior by the owner towards the clients is sickening! This place was begging for reviews and I can understand why because it is the worst! So, here is a nice honest review for the masses. The pricing is outrageous. Vibe is very unsettling to say the least. The owner is pretentious and a douche. The stylists are nice and accommodating on their own, but seem to be intimidated by the tyrannical owner. He is very unprofessional with his clients and talks down to his staff. There is no second guessing why there is a huge turnaround of stylists. They get smart and leave him! I do not recommend this place to anyone unless you like being treated poorly by someone who thinks that he is King of Hair. I believe Prince of Pubes is more accurate. Take your business elsewhere. The owner Tony completely jacked my hair up. I went in for a haircut and he spent exactly 5 minutes cutting it and did not blend my hair at all. I wound up having to go to another salon to get it fixed, as I dared not go back to him again. I recently got my hair trimmed with T and he did an amazing job! Normally when asking for a trim, I mentally prepare myself for so much more to be cut off and my request not being fulfilled but T followed exactly what I wanted. I asked for a long layered trim with some face framing and he executed the style. We had a full blow out service done starting with an amazing shampoo and scalp massage and ending with cute curls and a photoshoot. Amazing location, easy to find parking, and friendliest staff. This is my first negative review. Do not go to this salon for extensions! Horrible quality for the price. I have used extensions for over 12 years.. Many brands of clip-ins & fusion extensions. This was my first time getting tape-in extensions. The hair seemed like good quality the first day and then literally after the first time washing it at home it was frizzy and fried. The way it looked and how it felt. I tried to reach out multiple times and my problems were ignored. It was very unprofessional given the amount of money I spent on the extensions. The hair is supposed to last 8-9 weeks before retaping and able for reuse up to 3-4 applications. I have already gone in 3 times before the 8-9 week mark. The tape isn't holding, the hair is shedding so much. Feels so dry. There is no way it will last what was advertised. Do yourself a favor and find a better salon / brand in Chicago! I have been using Tony's extensions for 3 years now and I couldn't be more satisfied. I used to use socaps fusion, tape ins, clip ins, and after using them for so many years, it has damaged my hair terribly. Ever since I started using these, my hair is finally getting healthier. Here is a tip; make sure you use the right brush, use hair masks and go when they grow out. I have thin hair and my problem with other extensions were the quality. In order to style my hair, I had to use super high heat & it was burning my hair. I recently switched to weft and it's amazing! I fly from Miami to get my hair done with him in Chicago. read more

Julia was nice and did a great job on the color but she should have been transparent from the beginning when she used hair product I had to pay $10 extra dollars for that I didn't know about until she used it and then because she had used extra coloring she just took the blow dry style out of my package without even asking me if I still wanted it I would've paid the extra for that too. My daughter was very disappointed because she wanted her hair styled as it was included in the package. As professionals these issues could've been better approached especially with new customers. I don't think any salon should ever allow their client to walk out with their hair a hot mess. read more

I bought a name brand coupon to Exsalonce Salon, and I made an appointment a couple of weeks in advance of my needed appointment. The day before my scheduled 4:30 PM appointment, the salon called to see if I could move up my appointment to 4:15 PM. I called back, and the person who answered the business' phone number simply answered "Hello." Therefore, I wasn't even I had called the right number because she didn't answer with something like "Exsalonse Salon. How can I help you?" I thought it was quite unprofessional, but I let it go for the moment. 4:15 PM would have been inconvenient for me. It was better for me to move it to later in the evening, so we scheduled it for 5:45 PM. The following day, on the day of the appointment, the woman left voice mail once again. This time, she claimed that the person scheduled to cut my hair had to leave for an emergency. They couldn't get me in until the following day at the earliest. The following day was not convenient for me. I called the brand name coupon company, and they issued a refund since Exsalonce Salon canceled my appointment twice and since they did not live up to their end of the agreement. I will not give Exsalonce Salon another chance. I am underwhelmed. read more

What an amazing experience I had at Exsalonce! Different feeling from any other salon I've walked into. I immediately felt a warm welcome from the receptionist followed by my amazing stylist Torrey Zeleznak! I've heard of Master Stylists, but Torrey is unlike the rest! How she works with hair is magical! I gave her an idea of the color I was looking for and it's even better than what I had expected. Blonde is almost impossible for me to achieve because I have that Asian hair with prior color treatments. Torrey got the right blonde and the perfect tone! The products she used was wonderful! And come to find out it's the owner, Tony's, own line! Tony was working his own magic with another client, but he still took the time to greet me and introduce himself! Torrey had great product recommendations and I left with the restore shampoo , conditioner, the purple shampoo, and the 3 in 1 mist! Definitely my new salon! Went here for a massage with cupping. Jon was wonderful!!! She uses just the right amount of pressure. She was friendly but not overly talkative which is annoying when you want to relax. The current space is a little cramped but they are expanding to larger space next month. If you are a first time visitor, their website advertises 20% off. Stina really listened to what I wanted and was open to going slow and making changes as I saw how the cut was turning out. I called 45 minutes prior to my appointment warning them I would be running late and they said that would be fine. I emailed tony, the owner about my terrible experience and his response was there is nothing we can do and I'd like to stop all Communication from you. Unbelievable right? No hidden story just absolutely terrible customer service. Hope to share my experience to as many people as I can to warn you that this salon is AWEFUL. They do not care about making clients happy. I came here for a full head of highlights, conditioning treatment and blowout using a groupon. This place is really cute- nice welcoming entryway and friendly staff. On top of that, a dog named Libby welcomed me too! Denae took care of me. We talked about my new haircut and how I wanted highlights to break up the solid color of my dark hair. She worked quickly and expertly and was friendly. Highlights were rinsed, wonderful shampoo treatment with a scalp massage, then a conditioning treatment that was topped with a hot towel wrapped around my head. Heaven! I got a groupon for a massage at this place. Setting up an appt was easy and they sent a reminder a day ahead to confirm the date/time. When you walk in, you'll see the salon first. The spa is to the back, where they can offer a bit more quiet to guests. The woman walked me to a washroom, where they had lockers and a steam shower. She told me I could change and use the sauna and shower. I've never been to a sauna, so I really didn't know what to do or what to expect. I wasn't really given any instruction either, just left to explore for myself. I didn't really see staff around to ask for help. The sauna is nice for one person, maybe two if you're OK being close to someone else. You're able to rest and stretch out while enjoying the heat. The steam shower is a nice space once you figure out how to work the shower. It took me longer than it should have to get the actual shower on. I couldn't understand why the water wasn't warming up until I added steam. A little instruction would have helped. The massage itself was nice. I had Nikki. She went over my sensitivities and what I wanted from the experience. She helped me choose a scent before starting. I was disappointed that the massage didn't last the full 60 minutes (the session started late even though I was there thirty minutes early). After the massage, Nikki face instruction on after care and I was able to enjoy the sauna again. I noticed while I was relaxing after that a lot of staff was passing through (for laundry I guess). They were rather loud, slamming doors behind them and walking back and forth a lot. It kind of took me out of my mood and I decided to head out. Overall, I'd go back again. read more

I originally had his product put in my hair in June of 2018 by one of his students whom he trained to do extentions. After having his products in my hair for 2 weeks, the extensions started to fall out. I then went to the consumer itself, the "Tony Odishio" store on Lincoln Ave. Where I met with the store manager Margo. At first she was reluctant to help but after seeing me in tears she said she would contact Tony and asked me to come back in the next day. That's when I first met Tony, he was at first very nice and helpful. Offered to redo the extensions for me at a discounted rate and even said he would reach out to his former student, after I provided him with her information, which he never did. I was Extremely happy with the work his salon did for me that second time I got the extentions. After the 3-4 month mark I went back December 8th to have them removed and redone, as you know.... nothing about this process comes cheap and takes about 4-5 hours each visit. Again, my extension, which I only get because I cut my hair short (mid back length) 2 years ago and it's taking forever to grow, missing my long hair is the reason I get the extentions. December's extentions looked great.... come the 3rd week of January I went back to see Tony to show him that they were AGAIN starting to fall out, I was saving them all to show him.... he kept the fallen out extentions and said he would "study them" and advised I just keep using his expensive products to maintain, which I did regardless through the whole process. I finally went back on March 5th to have them removed and redone, this after going there in January and February with fallen out extentions. After being there for 4.5 hours, hair looks fills aging and curled pretty. As soon as I got home I noticed that my hair was pretty much the same length as it is originally, except fuller! Again, not the reason I get them. I called the salon right away, texted the hair dresser right away, texted Tony O. right away, to no avail. I told him that my hair sis short! With extentions and this isn't what I had paid for, he of course didn't respond to any of my texts or returned my call. The next morning I went to the salon to show them and complain that they had given me the incorrect length of extentions. He of course was not there and they told me he would contact me via email. He then later send me an email saying his computer was showing me they gave the exact same length as last time, which was NOT true and he also told me NOT to come back to his salon again.... talk about customer service?! I of course didn't listen and went back the next day even more upset. He was actually tehee this time and we went back and forth for half an hour. I pulled up ALL the pictures I had, which his hair dressers took at the time of all services, and vividly showed him what a HUGE difference their was in length from the previous times I had the extentions done and he still kept denying my hair was short, even while standing in from of him. He belittled me, put me down when all I wanted was for him to remove them, give me my money back so I can take my business elsewhere and he kept on refusing. Thankfully I had brought my husband with me and he was able to convince Tony to "repair" my hair. He added 2 more pack of 25 and I walked out of there with pretty much spaghetti strands added to the original length. I have pictures of each and every time I had these services done, I screen shot his email and I also have all the texts and I wish I could add it to this review so everyone can see that this guys is NOT as nice as he seems, his own employees say he's not a nice guy. My advice, don't waste your money on "Tony Odishio"'extensions, I had no idea their are other brands out there. I thought about this long and hard. This review is for: full highlights, toner, blow dry GROUPON. I was really excited for this salon, I love Roscoe village and the inside is very cute and they were able to get me in on a weeknight with only a day notice. That maybe should have been a red flag. There was also nobody at the salon with me I was alone (appointment started at 5). It was probably the worst highlights I've gotten, yellow and chunky. I didn't notice until I left really how bad it was. To be fair I didn't call and ask them to fix it because that's how little I trust them or want them to touch my hair. After the highlights were washed out we sat in the chair and the stylist told me before he brushed my hair and I quote "this is going to hurt a little". He then brushed from my roots down.. I was a fan on Exsalonce until today. I'll admit that I am a sucker for good customer service and the single star rating is based on the poor service that I received today. First, if you're not familiar, from their website, under a section called Etiquette: Cancellations In consideration of other guests and our service providers please give as much notice as possible when canceling an appointment. Less than 24 hours notice will result in a 25 percent charge to the client for the total service time. Punctuality To receive the full Exsalonce experience, please arrive 20 minutes prior to the start of your service. If you arrive after the scheduled start of your service, we may not be able to offer an extension of time on the scheduled services. I arrived 5 minutes early for my appointment this afternoon. I saw that my stylist was still with a client, so I asked if anyone was available for a brow shaping. Great, she got me in. 15 minutes later, I was done. My stylist was still with another client. I patiently sat down and flipped through a magazine. A few minutes later, I checked in with the receptionist - my appointment was at 3pm right? Yep. No apologies for keeping me waiting, etc. It was now 3:15. 3:20....I ask how long its going to be, the two people in front dawdle a bit (one was clearly new) and they finally ask the stylist (who is in the middle of a head full of highlights) and he says um, 5-10 minutes. At that point, I decide that I'm not waiting 30 minutes PAST my appointment time and pay for my brows and leave. I might have been more patient had anyone made any kind of acknowledgement that I was waiting for so long. And, their "punctuality" policy is just salt in the wound. So long exsalonce. read more

I don't know where to begin. My experience with this salon was so terrible it's unbelievable. First off, my appointment was scheduled 6 weeks in advance, and then three days before I was supposed to go in for a cut and color, the scheduling fiasco began. I received 5 different phone calls and voicemails, each time telling me that it would need to be rescheduled, canceled, or that someone new would take me. Over the phone I was told that I'd have a free cut and dye since my stylist left the salon, but when I went in for the consult, they said they would only do the cut for free. I thought that was a bit shady, but okay. Then, they called to tell me that a different girl would be doing my hair, and I asked what her experience level was. They gave me an indirect response but said she got her license 3 years ago. I took the leap of faith (which was my fault) since I had family and friends who went to this salon. They said the cost would be $125, which I thought was reasonable for all of the trouble. While I was sitting in the chair and the girl was about to begin, I was told that it would actually be $225. I was completely disgruntled but already there and ready, so I agreed to $225 with a 20% discount. Even after all of this craziness, my hair turned out terrible, and I still paid $175 for shoddy work and serious damage. My hair was fried, falling out, and not even close to what I wanted! I called and asked them to fix it and they wouldn't. I even sent pictures showing how the top of my head had several different colors in strange and uneven sections (orange, white, and dark blonde in patches). The problem was not in my hair or it's original state, as I've been getting my hair dyed for the last 10 years and never had an experience like this. I feel really bad about the low rating, but I just don't feel the love. Looks like its just me so far... The conversation between me and my hairstylist was really awkward and I felt rushed. That would all still result in a 5 star rating for me if I left with an amazing haircut, but I'm really disappointed. When I left it looked good, but as I started washing and styling it myself I noticed a lot of parts were uneven, there were layers where there should not have been and my bangs suck right now. (Which the staff confirmed today) And they gave me one complimentary blow out session, but when I came in to do my last blow out in the package I confirmed about the complimentary package they said there's no note about a complimentary package. I did not like this confusion within their own management. Why give complimentary things when you actually don't want to give it. I am so grateful for the excellent hair service I got from Exsalonce. From getting a last minute appointment to the beautiful hair conditioning and cut, right before the busy Thanksgiving weekend, it was just perfect. I totally vouch for Josue Garcia who has done my hair for the last two times I have been there. Josue is very thorough and professional. I wasn't sure what style hair cut to get and Josue was able to suggest and execute the best haircut. Tony is great! He is a teacher at the L'Oreal color institute and is able to work magic on my hair color. I've been getting highlites for YEARS and they always end up brassy. I went to Exsalonce after my coworker recommended him (and my coworker has FANTASTIC hair) and I don't think I will be going anywhere else for my future cuts and color! I have medium long hair - Cut, highlights, $160.00 I used to pay only $120 at the chinatown salon, but I was never ecstatic about my hair. Also, if you have dry hair, you have to buy the L'Oreal conditioning mask there. I feel like I belong in a hair commerial now. It was only $22 and it lasts FOREVER! read more

I love Exsalonce, although I must say that I really love it because Joan is there! I have 4 different friends with very different hair that all see Joan, and everyone always comes out looking fabulous. I am always happy walking out of cut or color appointments. I truly believe that Joan is a styling genius!!! I also went to Exsalonce on my wedding day for myself, my mother, and my bridesmaids to all have hair done. It was fabulous. Everyone felt super beautiful and they were so accommodating to having the whole 'crowd.' So although I am loyal to Joan, the other stylists there have proven to be just as wonderful! If I could add another star, I would! After a week with my extensions, I was having problems styling them because they were getting clumpy. I thought it might be my shampoo & conditioner because the product I was using was for fine hair and now I have all this luxurious, thick hair! So, I called. They weren't even technically open yet, but they said I should come in. They looked at my hair and suggested a new shampoo & conditioner for me...and they were exactly right on the money. Now my extensions are silky smooth, just as they said they would be. I was even expecting to pay $100 plus for the new products, but they were VERY reasonable -- about $60 for shampoo, conditioner & deep conditioning treatment. Not the small bottles, either, these are the real deal. Not to mention, they said if I had any problems whatsoever with the products to bring them back and we would find something that works. First off Maria is awesome!!! I used to do hair and am really picky on trusting just any one with my locks. I work close to this salon and decided one day to just go and get my bangs trimmed. I was introduced to Maria and had a conversation with her about my trepidations with trusting someone new to cut my hair. She reassured me that she completely understood and would listen to everything I had to say. I booked an appointment and I cannot say enough fabulous things about her! I'm shocked that I have not yet reviewed this business, as I have been going there for haircuts for a few years now. I love love LOVE this place, and just cannot find a replacement, even though I have moved to another state. I always time my trips back to Chicago around the time I need a haircut, because there is no point for me to bother finding a place that's comparable where I live now. I love the customer service. It's top notch, from the receptionist to the person who's working in the back cleaning and helping the stylists. I absolutely adore my stylist, and usually only need to use a few words to relay to her what I want done with my hair. She also always gives me tips on how to take care of my hair and maintain it. Aside from my personal experience with the one stylist I love, the atmosphere of the salon is very laid back and classy, without being snobby. The clients range from your normal unpretentious person to the lady who dresses her poodle in Gucci. The prices are very reasonable, and everyone is very friendly and nice. The salon is in a busy neighborhood in the city, and parking can sometimes be a pain, so take that into consideration when trying to get there on time for your appointment. Obviously, this is not the salon's fault, but I thought I'd note it. My favorite part about this salon is that they are very timely and respectful of the clients (as long as the clients are respectful too), in that every time I get there on time, I am always in my stylist's chair exactly at the time of my appointment. It's one of my biggest pet-peeves in a salon I used to go to, where I would get there on time, but would be delayed, because the stylists would just take anyone who walked through the door. read more
