Came from south Austin on my day off to move stuff out and the key pad was out. No entry. Since then two other people have come by and had the same issue. One was just moving in and had reached the help line who tried to get hold of management to no avail. Most of day wasted and things that needed to get done go undone. I set up my account online with ease and picked up the lock and finished the registration in person in less than 15 minutes. Everything was smooth and simple, however, the lock we received on our move in day broke after being unlocked twice. Ryan in the office was an amazing help in getting the bad lock cut off and replaced our lock at no additional cost. We received great customer service and were able to finish moving in. If you want everything you're keeping in storage to reek of mothballs, this is the place for you. The stench has been growing in intensity for months. We brought the first things home from storage but they're sitting in the garage waiting for the smell to go away before bringing inside - it's been two weeks. I doubt that this facility could be using the mothballs legally/safely given the odor. Naphthalene is toxic. And smells vile. read more

Great storage experience! Easy to reserve and rent same day. They included a lock for the unit and it was clean and ready for move-in. Walkthrough was provided so I was familiar with my unit location, and where elevators and carts, restroom were, etc. Super easy access and reasonable hours. Felt safe accessing at all hours. Move-out was a breeze and they called proactively if they had questions or needed to confirm anything! No issues at all and would rent from them again! Highly recommend! read more

The facility is clean, secure and well lighted. I was able to rent a unit in Austin while still living in California. The online account, payment, etc is very helpful. yes, you need insurance. Bring a copy of your homeowners insurance when you sign your agreement or you will have to purchase their coverage. They have dollies, docks for 18 wheelers, elevators and they provide you an access code to gain entry. My only complaints (and the reason I took away a star) are that I thought I was getting a month free only to find out the large unit I rented was not eligible and the automatic doors require the code for each entrance, the door can not be propped open (at this location) so it was a bit of a hassle. I had professional movers place the household goods from my 3000 square foot home in the storage unit. The staff person on site was nice enough to give the movers a proxy card that they could wave in front of the keypad. (That was hard with their hands full so the mover left the keycard on the keypad and eventually I stood there and opened the door for each load. There are no trash cans so be prepared to collect your own trash. Also this location has an ally that is treated like a street. A business owner from the Indian restaurant came and yelled at my movers saying they were harming (Be cause their truck partially blocked the alley but others could get by) his business and that he was calling the police. (I encouraged him to do so since the movers were just doing their job and I was paying by the hour) Additionally, some of the tenants of the facility run businesses out of the storage units. (I am not sure how this is legal). He was also rude and condescending. He is actually hurting business for Extra Storage Space. He and his employees take the best parking spaces and block the dock for those who have 18 wheelers or trailers. The employees I encountered Fairfield, CA and Austin, Texas were professional, courteous and extremely helpful. I would use this company again. read more

Made a reservation online after a couple bad experiences at two other storage places. Amy called me right after I made the reservation and confirmed that I would be in the next day. She was friendly and pleasant throughout the call and called again the next day to confirm. I arrived around 5pm on Monday and Amy was super friendly and got me setup quickly. She showed me the unit, all the ins and outs, helped me fill out the contract then I was on my way. $75 a month for a 10x10 first floor climate controlled unit is reasonable read more

contact facility before storing there as I am on a fixed income and was comparing places beforehand. They are running a special for (free month) and I asked what money I would need before I came up there. Was told an amount and then when I got there was informed of mandatory insurance that was an additional cost. This was not advertised and was not spoken to me about over the phone. Only after they had me captive and in a bind did they inform me of this. Horrible customer service and way to do business. They aren't cheaper than competitors when you are required to have insurance that brings the cost above. Wouldn't even be a big deal if I had been told beforehand over the phone but then again I guess maybe they wouldn't have gotten me in the door. read more

Awful! I trusted they could set me up properly on auto draft to cover my payments after explaining I would be unavailable for a couple months but I when I returned I see no payments were taken and now I have over $100 in add fees. I requested a courtesy partial adjustments since the rep was partly at fault but the manager made no effort to acknowledge their mistake or empathize. Been renting a larger unit for a year and now they lost my business over a few dollars. Very upsetting dealing with this greedy business and the manager who could care less. I worked at apts nextdoor and always referred people here but no more. Tons of other storages to choose from. read more

Their rates go up literally every few months. Then when I moved to a larger unit, I was tricked into ending up paying more than I would have. Then when I finally moved out of the unit for good, they charged me the next months rent still and after a month, i STILL don't have my money back. It was a lot of money! read more

Updating with a slightly better rating because our claim finally did get approved, however, my husband's items can never be replaced. We also have yet to receive our refund for the last few months that they continued to charge us after we moved out of the unit. We moved out on June 10th and it is now July 21st with no refund they said we would have within the week of moving out. read more

The facilities are clean and most of the folks are nice. However, the company as a whole is not completely forthcoming with charges and management changes with the weather. In addition, management has never returned a phone call. If you have an issue you will spend time calling and calling again. Shady, shady, shady! Do your homework and go with another company. Do not be fooled by introductory rates, they will change in a few months and you will be blamed for taking the word of management instead of reading their agreement thoroughly with an attorney present. read more

The absolute worst location ever. There is no respect for customers at this location overall my experience with extra space storage is not very good. This is a company that I would never again ever use in the future. They treat the customers like garbage and I am paid up and not late. The office people tell lies and the manager is doing some shady things. Save your money, keep your respect, and go pick a different storage facility that will treat you like a customer should be treated. Apparently their district manager wants to cut off access to one of the rest rooms for customers so that tells me that other locations may be just as rude and disrespectful to their customers as this one. I mean think about it if they eliminate a restroom then that would mean a further walk in what is already a inconvenient situation. Again search on this location and any in this district sucks. At this point, I have no complaints. The gentleman Dillon was helpful and very nice. He walked me around to see the storage room that I was looking for. It was climate controlled, clean, and was reasonably priced, compared to UHaul, and Uncle Bob's. It was an easy process and I had a good feeling about this place. I have been a customer at Extra Space for nearly two years. My payments are charged to my credit card every month. I had decided to release the space this weekend Sept.24/25. My rent was charged to the credit card today (Sept 23rd) for the whole month of October, so I called the site manager (General Mgr) and explained my situation. I asked if they could prorate the rental charges for a day or two so that we could get out items out, but he sounded very arrogant and said they do not prorate if notice was not given 10 days before the intent to vacate. This is unfair! They are charging you for a full month even though the space is available for them to rent again. I would not recommend this place as they are not customer friendly. read more

Do not keep your belongings there. They are at great risk. I would give them 0 stars, but it is not possible. I was happy with them and stored my home furniture for 3 years. We moved from CT, and just recently we bought a new house. It was just furniture and household items... no food or anything like that. We went to pick up our furniture, just to find out that most of it had to be thrown to the dumpster. They have a huge plague of rats. Almost everything was severely damaged by rats, and the amount of rat feces was unbelievable!!! I did not see the animals (Thanks God!) but there are openings at the edge of the ceiling that communicate the units. They might be damaging somebody else property... When I contacted the insurance )what we paid religiously for 3 years) they said it does not cover insect or mice damages. Protect yourself and your property and go to other place!!! read more

I have been very pleased with Extra Space Storage so far. The space was clean and access was well lit with personalized security codes. The management and staff were very accommodating when my space needs and schedule changed and the use of their moving truck for free to bring my things was a huge bonus. I worked with Nicole and appreciated her assistance and flexibility. I will use them in again for my future storage needs and was pleased overall compared with a space that friends had at Uncle Bobs. read more

Extra Space Storage has been very good to us! They have been very professional since they took over from the previous owners/managers. I especially appreciate Andrea and Nicole as they met with me in the office and took the time to answer all my questions. I have met them in the office on different occasions. They are always very thorough and polite. This place is very clean and meets my storage needs. They did not try to rush me out the door as other storage managers have in the past. Later on as time passed; I needed to upgrade to a bigger storage unit. Since Nicole & Andrea were off on the day that I went in to secure a bigger unit; I ended up meeting with Dillon Robertson who was filling in that day. He showed us around and we got to see our bigger unit before making a decision. He took care of our lease for securing the new unit and all of our paperwork very promptly and professionally. He answered all of our questions. Andrea, Nicole, and Dillon pay attention to details. They also pay attention to what the customer is trying to convey to them. They both never once tried to rush us. I have used many different storage places in the past, and none have been as good or professional as Extra Space Storage on North Lamar, and none have had employees that are as thorough as Andrea, Nicole, and Dillon.
