Proprietors Sue and Ray Johnson received a slew of…read moreboxes from a cross-country move via USPS, packed a storage unit for me, then delivered everything to my new place in Philly, all for a ridiculously low price. That would have been enough to get them to my first level of peripatetic sainthood, hands down. But it gets better. A couple of years later, I stored my things at EZ Storage again in preparation for my next cross-country move (again with free pickup, thanks to a sweet student-moving deal). I'd already landed on the west coast when the moving plans changed from driving to shipping. Ray built a pallet, packed my things onto it, and helped with shipping logistics, for a very very nominal charge. Who does that?! Would I still have all my things without Ray and Sue? Probably... but maybe not. Would I be able to think about moving without flinching? Not a chance. Would I have such faith in humanity and the kindness of relative strangers? A resounding no! In short - Ray and Sue are local treasures. I don't think I've ever said that before about anyone, but they deserve it, and then some. I can't recommend EZ Storage highly enough.

I signed up for a unit for $33.00 per month in November. There was no disclosure that this was an introductory, limited time, or teaser rate. Extra Space sent a notice doubling the per-month charge in February. Did they increase the rate by 5% - no, 10% - no, 20% - no, 50% - no. They increased it 100%!!! On February 9th, I called Ryan at the phone number listed on the rate increase notice to discuss the rate change. He said that he would look into the rate change. He called me on February 12th when he told me that the rate would remain $33. Based on this conversation, I wrote my earlier review. Guess what - in March, I received a notice increasing the rate by over 71%! I called, questioned the rate increase, and told them about my February conversations with Ryan. The representative first denied that they employed someone named Ryan. In mid-April, a 3/5/26 Yelp review by Monica G. mentioned Ryan's name and referred to him as the manager. Yet Extra Space did not know who Ryan was?) After I told her what I discussed with Ryan, she then said she would have to review them and call me back. She did not. I received a call from a different Extra Space representative. He was abrupt and said the new rate was the new rate. He said to check the local rates. So, in April 2026, I checked this company's website for local rates. The Extra Space Storage location is currently offering the same size unit, with the same features, climate-controlled, elevator access, for $26.00 per month for four months. Nothing on their website indicates that the $26.00 monthly rate is an introductory, limited time, or teaser rate. In my opinion, the way this business treats its customers is abhorrent. When you rent the unit, you must pay an administrative fee of $29.00. You cannot use a padlock on their rental units; instead, you have to buy their lock for $19.95. You then invest your time in putting your goods into the rental unit. After investing both your money and your time, you see a significant rate increase! It reeks of bait-and-switch tactics.

One thing that I won't consider in my review since it didn't affect me personally, but is worth noting is that they were pretty short staffed here in the middle of the morning. Folks were queueing up behind me right after I was helped since the only person on staff left to fill up someone's propane. They could use some help being better staffed here so that folks can get the service they need promptly. I cannot even imagine loading a truck, then unloading it into a storage container just to reload in back into a truck a couple months later to have to unload it again! Sounds like my own personal hell! Door to door made this transition so much easier. Everyone was so helpful and accommodating. The prices were about the same as renting 2 trucks and a storage unit, without the headache. I rented 2 of the containers and fit a ton of stuff in them; two couches, two beds and a ton of other items. Plus, everyone from the customer service reps on the phone to the guy dropping off the containers were dolls. I highly recommend!

Although I bought the permit, the way Philadelphians work by tearing the signs down when you have the permission for the parking spots. Fortunately, the driver was all about parking the two pods wherever necessary and that he did. So far so good...will be using them again soon. Nicole was a rockstar and not only set us up with the best deal with utmost trust and confidence in this place, but she hooked me up with local coffee, shared with me some of the awesome things that I should check out in my new hometown, and had a great sense of humor. I needed all of that!! The storage unit is amazing and very secure and clean! The accessibility hours are wonderful and easy access for after office hours.
