If your looking for somewhere to keep your car, don't leave it here! Here are some reasons why... 1. Started using their facility in late November. The rate was $380, in January a letter was sent stating the price was going to go up to $403! 2. Found someone sleeping by my car, on 1 occasion. Notified the after hour office. 3. Ppl were leaving tools on the bed cover of my truck. Once again notified the office. 4. Last straw... someone stole ALL my stuff in the bed of my truck. Made a police report, and ask them if they could please review the security cameras they claim to have. The lady in there said she would call us regarding a reimbursement of the month... still waiting, but I'm not holding my breath. Lesson learned... should have checked the reviews before storing my truck there! I would have seen the homeless ppl issue! They are sleeping all over their facility, and no one does nothing!! Not like this place is cheap or anything, most ppl would expect better then this!! read more

I was in immediate need of a storage unit and had planned on checking out Extra Space Storage and Public Storage. (The rates seemed about the same.) I never made it to Public Storage, though, because SIERRA, at Extra Storage, provided exceptional service (!) and the unit(s) available fit my needs. The unit I chose had just been cleared, and she made sure the unit was immediately cleaned and ready to go -- I walked out with keys and things were stored right away. Thank you, Sierra! Each time I call or go into the office, the staff is enthusiastically helpful! It's refreshing and appreciated (especially nowadays, with the 'COVID gloom' that seems to permeate so much). I utilized the Kalakaua location extra storage space since September of 2018. First impressions are important and corporate must drive home this point as the 2 front desk workers are extremely friendly and helpful. One of the two cheerful and enthusiastic workers hooked me up with a great deal and was able to downgrade me as appropriate for an incredible price. Signing up was easy and there were no hidden charges or changes in rates that other storages classically impose on customers. I would certainly use this place again if extra storage is needed mainly because of the very helpful and responsive front desk staff. read more

Full on bait and switch. Quoted one price over the phone from corporate but when I arrived at the facility they tacked on administrative fees and required me to purchase their insurance which was 30% of the cost of my unit. The final price was almost double what I had been quoted. Really disappointing - seems like a nice, clean facility but I will take my business somewhere else. read more

Facility is clean; Friendly Staff; Feel safe. I prefer this location and company than the Public Storage in Ewa Beach because the cost is less. Cons: 1) I don't like their elevator system: slow and have to wait if other ppl are there because you can't go on a different floor until they are done going to their floor if they were there first (I like the Public Storage elevator system better) 2) There's an increase. Would be nice to have a fix rate. Though it's not too bad because I'm renting a 5x5 unit and paid $26.18/month ($25/month plus tax) since 10/2014. Then they slowly increase to $31.45 by 5/2015. Then 12/2015, they increased again to $36.65 at the present (6/2016). It's not too bad because it's still a deal. I'm hoping that they won't increase too much so I can continue to rent it instead of moving out. read more

I love that it is air conditioned. The elevator is broken on one end and it looks as if it will never get fixed. It's always crowded. It's also very sketch. Scary. There are homeless people living there. You can hear a tv or radio coming from one of the units at night. There are people there all day. It's clean for the most part. I am disappointed. Unless you are only going to store your stuff here for a couple of months, stay away! At first, it was a great deal. Basement unit, pie shaped, with a huge cement pillar in it. It had charm, to say the least. First couple of months, rent was about $330, plus their MANDATORY INSURANCE, which added about $35. Then, few months later, went up a bit. Then, about six months after that, another raise. They got a raise, and I didn't? What gives? Plus, your mandatory insurance goes up proportionately, I know, big word for a pocho, so now it's up to over $450, for the same unit! Finally had enough when my auto-pay card was replaced, and dumb me forgot to change the auto-pay, and I was dinged $75!!!! Yups, $75 for a couple days late. So last month I paid was over $550!!!! Moved out yesterday. WARNING!!!! There was an oil spill from a car, with an oil filter, all over the parking area, right by the elevators. Oh yea, a small bag of kitty's litter box stuff will work perfectly!!!! NOT Plus, please don't step on the white parking stripes. They will make your feet jump up and hit your head!!! They are way to slippery to be safe, don't know how they got away with that. So, for a couple of months, fine But wait, forgot the best part You have to call the elevator, button is on the left side. Wait for it to arrive, then key in your access code, ON THE RIGHT SIDE. If you miss it, anyone who has called the elevator from inside the building will override your input, and you have to wait for it to cycle, AGAIN. Oh yea, one more CLIMATE CONTROLLED? Yeah, it means it has a roof. Glad I left. Was cheaper to rent a full house for storage. read more

Worst storage experience in Hawaii. Homeless people about the place. It appears some are living in the units. Several times I have witnessed sprinkler pipes leaking for weeks on my floor. Elevator by office is either down or acting up for months. All these issues and they raise the rent every 3 months. My wife is scared to go here anymore due to being panhandled on the property. I just got off the phone with Debbie, the customer service rep. She was very friendly, polite and knowledgeable. I called because I want to finally get my stuff out of storage. She let me know that I can let her know, on the phone, when I want to check out. She then prorated my account so I wouldn't have to pay a full month for only a couple days storage. The Extra Space Storage on Ala Makani in Kahului Maui is fantastic! Great PR, and communication, clean & neat and always available to help with any issue! The billing was easy and I receive reminders and payment receipts every month without fail. I appreciate a good company that clearly has integrity and dependability! I've been a customer for about 4 years now, and while the staff are really nice, it's upsetting that the prices go up every single year. I have the smallest size storage space and it is almost $78.It isn't easy to get to, and it's very small. I get that rent is expensive these days, but $80 a month for a tiny space is ridiculous. What's more ridiculous, is that they have these "move in" specials that offer this low price, and then they charge you the regular rate afterwards, for a bigger space than I have. And it's less than what I'm paying. I called and spoke to someone at their call center, and she told me that I could close my account and just make another one, with the deal. But hello?! What's the point. To save EVERYONE the time... why don't you just offer me the lower price. read more

My friend had her unit broken into here and her belongings stolen They told her there are only security cameras in the elevator. Why not have more so all units can be seen. My friend said they ripped open the metal siding to access her unit. What are they using, cardboard to protect people's belongings. Why didn't workers see or hear anything. I guess they don't do periodic walkthroughs or watch suspicious homeless people loitering around inside the facility. Awful security. I would do my business elsewhere. read more

Although the movers should be our responsibility, as a storage facility that people store LARGE items in shouldnt they have a more durable elevator?? Major Price Hikes Ever since Extra Space Storage took over StorQuest, prices have gone up and service has gone down. I chose StorQuest because I needed to keep some artwork in a climate controlled facility, as well as because of the King St. location (central) and the price. Just received notice of another price hike, which means storage costs have gone up 56% in 3 years. The facility also seems to have cut down on the air conditioning, so it is pretty stuffy in the storage area. I live on the mainland and can only visit Honolulu once a year, but will look for another facility this fall. read more

Extra Space Storage met almost all of my needs for short-term storage while I had a several-day window between the end of my old lease and signing papers on my new place. After I made a reservation online, a representative called me immediately to talk about my needs and helped me understand that I actually needed a larger unit than I'd thought. Since I said I couldn't come take a look before moving day, we had a long discussion about the unit and what I needed, and when I was informed of the monthly price (very high for a 5x5 unit at just over $100--but consistent with island storage pricing), the representative extended the first-month-free promotion to this larger unit that accommodated my needs perfectly. I confirmed the rep was indeed right about what I needed when I was able to go take a look at the larger one. I was also very pleased with the attention to detail and positive overall customer service experience when I went in to view the unit and sign move-in papers prior to moving day. My one disappointment is with the overly complicated elevator. There is literally a training to operate it because codes are required, one's access is limited to only the floor to which one is assigned, and most frustrating, the process just to get to the unit in question (in my experience and observation of others') tends to go wrong more often than right. Add to that the warning from the rep at Extra Storage that too many failed attempts or delays in use of the elevator will cause it to stop working entirely, and I frankly see no reason for this level of barriers to access for people who need it. When I--admittedly, frustrated and impatient--sought help from another rep on move-in day after a lack of success in operating said elevator, I finally had to say, "OMG I hate this stupid elevator." I think this was justified, and it was clearly not an attack on the customer service, but the response from the rep really, honestly made the situation worse. Instead of acknowledging that the experience is frustrating and overly difficult, the response from the rep was, "It's for your own security, ma'am." She was clearly annoyed at my frustration--but seriously, as I pointed out, the security is much too high if the person who *should* have access to the unit they paid for cannot access it without help (and outside office hours, there is no help). This is not the Pentagon, people. If this part of the process were streamlined and made more accessible to the appropriate parties, I would happily give this business a 5-star rating. read more

I'll give it a 3 because it is fairly secure. I'm surprised their google has such high ratings... maybe the people were satisfied with the employees and were suggested to rate them.... where it's lacking; so I've had storage here over a year a half and it's at least gone up twice.. I want to say three times. I thought it was climate controlled... but it doesn't seem to be, im pretty much sweating after moving a single box to get to my stuff. Maybe the AC is just in the high 70s... Now they say that no entrance/gates close at 10 pm, but online it says 24 hour access. I'm not sure which one it is. However I've come at 9:30 and rushed and as I left at 9:58 there didn't look like any signs that the gate was going to close or announcements.... there were a few people still chilling there when I left. So if i only saw them once or twice maybe I could assume they were packing but lately I've been coming a few times a week for the last month: and everytime I get off the elevator past 8pm, there they are. A group of 3-6 people talking up a storm and eating various fast food while sitting in lawn chairs. I want to stay that they are indeed homeless who are hanging out/sleeping here. Which feels fairly unsafe for me. If it was one person or two, maybe that would be fine but who knows if theyre giving out their code to all their friends. I have a lot of junk in my storage but I have friends who have other valuableish stuff in here.... The friend of mine who referred me, had an issue where rheee was a man living above her unit, which is only blocked by chicken wire..... who had busted a hole and was pushing his trash into her stuff including various articles of used and dirty clothing. Since those people are always in the hallway, right past the elevator... it makes me wonder if they don't have cameras in here.... why wouldn't they say something, warn them or try to get them out? 3 stars because probably not too bad if you are only doing it temporarily. However the fact that they seem to not mind the homeless and keep raising the price is encouraging me get rid of more of my crap and get out of here ASAP. read more

The only good thing I can say is that the storage units are clean and they do check on them. There is also indoor parking.Otherwise they are terrible. The customer service is non-existant and the employees act like they are doing you a favor, It is so obvious that no one likes their job. The elevator is terribly slow but there is supposedly another one at the other end of the building. They are not open on Sunday (but there is access) so that makes the place a little scary especially to me as a single female. There is no dumpster and they just say take your trash with you!. I finally moved to another more affordable and friendly place. Met 3 others the day I was moving out with the exact same comments especially about the unfriendly employees who would probably die if they had to smile. read more

I've had it with these folks... money grabbing in the most unethical way. I have had a 10x10 unit for exactly one year of which I contracted for 232.00. I received a "rate change notice' to 372.00 affective Oct 29th 2018. There is no reason for this in terms of market drivers. When you call them, they give you some bs answer about competition ... and the on site folks are not equipped to answer any questions pertaining to rates. There are other options in Honolulu ...
