Let me start by saying that the staff at Pleasanton Extra Space are amazing, kind, and helpful, especially Vanessa. My review is not about the facility or the staff, it is about the pricing. I just received a rental increase of 34% which was an additional $176 per month. As a senior citizen, I cannot afford a monthly increase this drastic. There are other facilities in Pleasanton, some that are climate controlled that are renting for less than my current rate with Extra Space. There are rules for rent increases for housing; maybe we need to contact our state representatives to suggest rules and limits on increases for storage rental fees as 34% is both shocking and unreasonable, in my opinion. read more

This is my first time getting a storage unit, I have a lot of anxiety about my belongings, being separated with me or putting it in the area where I don't have 24 hours surveillance. Vanessa has been so phenomenal, I have never met anyone who has such amazing customer service, who is so friendly, kind, patient and understanding. My piano my guitar chairs were all soiled and ruined if I can only post my piano my guitar the wood pulverized from the rain and heat. Water leaked inside the storage they don't have a roof to protect your property but a tarp . I took them to small claims they have so many corporate names to evade being served. This company just want to take your money but don't maintain a normal building that will protect your personal effects from rain and the sun that they are charging so much money for. Stay away from this company. My piano ,guitar chairs are all ruined. I lost a lot of money and memories . I was looking for a dependable and trustworthy storage for my furniture being shipped from overseas while looking for a place to stay. The folks working at the Pleasanton branch, Vanessa and Marcos, were so friendly and helpful. I told them I needed to see the space before I booked and Marcos was extremely patient and helped me address all of my concerns with my delivery company. Marcos also took the time to explain all the processes involved as well as the terms and conditions. The place is clean and well-kept. The facilities is well- maintained. You know all storage places are the same. They're all out to get you and stick it to you. I thought I had found the perfect place. Somewhat close to my home, clean, easy to access, and reasonable rates. I been here less than 2 years, and have already experienced three rates incrreases. Each time, they send this damn postcard. And I know what's in it. Blah blah...cost of business increasing, this and that. Sure. I think all these places make a killing - I really should get in to the storage business. Been there a short time. They raise your rent every three to four months. I was paying $131 very small storage unit and they raised it to $231. Completely off from where I started. It's been raised a couple of times and it hasn't even been a year. So if you want to pay someone who raises your space this is the spot. Moving out way cheaper places. BEWARE!!!!! read more

I was having an extremely stressful day until I walked inside and was greeted by the welcoming smile given by Hannah from her desk. She made me feel as if I walked into the home of someone that I already knew! She explained all of the ins and outs of the property with great detail, and answered all of my questions with the same level of care a mother would give a child, and did it without a condescending tone (like most moms with adult children*TMI*HAHA)! Disappointed! We have been loyal customer to this facility for over two years. We check in regularly to ensure all is good and to access our stuff we need. We spotted feces and immediately knew they must be from rats. Naturally, we were disappointed and the usual great customer service disappeared from the staff. Our storage was full of our furniture, clothes and decor. No food or anything that would attract the vermin. They asked to view the storage and blandly accused us of having food, we happily obliged and told them they can inspect to ensure and asked them to check with nearby owners to contain the problem if we can find out the culprit. They simply responded- no one complained. Thus, this review- please check your units for traces (ours are indoors) and yes, we are moving out to much secure and cleaner facility. Just a heads up! They also obviously had complaints or those photographed wouldn't be there. read more

Everything is great as long as there are no problems.. our door was easily opened WITH their padlock I purchased. The on site staff is completely incompetent. I waited 4 business days for a resolution to my problem, only got one because I called 3 days in a row. The resolution was a full refund, meaning I have to search and buy a different unit in one day (because they took all week to call me back). The on site manager offered me a smaller unit after I had repeatedly told her that I needed one comparable in size. The call center staff was very friendly although because of the poor management and incompetent on site staff, I will be moving my belongings. read more

EDIT 5/10/12: Dropping my review to a 4/5 Stars due to a monthly $10 price hike that went into effect for all Extra Space Pleasanton customers last month. As if consumers don't already have enough to pay for each month.... I've been with Extra Space Storage, Pleasanton for about three years and have never really had any major issues aside from the climbing monthly rental rates. Their staff is very courteous and are there on the grounds should you need them. However, I have had to lower my rating on account of the price hikes. The grounds are well monitored, well landscaped and maintained, and the storage facilities (pathways includes) are always free of dirt and debris. There are a bevy of size and location options: inside, outside, upstairs, and downstairs. Aside from the on-site courtesy carts, they have great access hours, but again, the rental price hikes have forced me to lower my score...a few times. It really is a shame that they don't offer a loyalty program for those who have been there for years and have set up reoccurring, automatic payments. read more

I am paid through May 5th 2014, but advised them on MARCH 19th that I'd be vacating April 19th. I made my final payment on a Sunday (when they are closed) and when I finally reached someone today, I was told that because I didn't tell them on the day my payment was due (A SUNDAY - WHEN THEY WERE CLOSED) that I wouldn't be able to be refunded the balance of the month after I vacated the unit. The girl on the phone actually told me that I "can stay in the unit until May 5th", but they don't pro-rate. Yes, lady, changing my move date because you don't honor your website's promises is something that is reasonable and feasible. Terrible terrible customer service. read more

So my girlfriend and I had both fell on financial problems and we couldn't make our payments regularly but we tried to all the time. Petra over at ex space was decent for the most part, but you can tell in the tone of her voice that every time my girlfriend or I would call to make a payment she was annoyed. To make a long story short, today we lost our stuff to auction due to not making our payment. OK yeah its our fault and all but Petra made us feel like complete crap when I called to find our what my staus was on our unit. Everytime we called we dread her answering the phone, like I said she was polite and all but you can definitely tell she was annoyed and sitting behind her desk probably rolling her eyes. So therefore I give this review a 2 star because I really didn't feel welcomed or anything. It was dreadful all the time. read more
