If I could give this place a 0 star review I would. The staff is nice but their policies around price increases are predatory. My original payment almost tripled within 4 months of renting a unit. Their contract states they can increase the unit cost between 0-100% annually. Instead of emailing a notice of a price increase they say they "mail" a notice of price change. I've lived at the same residence for over a year and received no such notice. I highly recommend folks not to store your goods here unless you are okay with the original price doubling or tripling on an annual basis. read more

I had a 10x20 drive to the door unit at Extra Space Storage on 38th Ave for about a year. The unit was clean, had a ceiling light, the facility was very well lit, and gate access was available until 10 pm! A huge plus! My husband passed away suddenly last year. We had to clean out his machine shop. I needed a storage space asap. Extra Space was in the neighborhood. I pre-paid 4 months in advance. And got a great deal. As I sorted my husband's things out, I downsized to the point of no longer needing that much space. So I was able to move out. These people will steal from you and have no remorse. They stole 2 of my spare keys and either sold them to some thief or took what was in my storage for themselves. Cindy is the "mastermind" behind the whole operation. And whoever works there now promises to get me a refund and call me back but never does.... DO NOT STORE YOUR BELONGINGS AT THIS PLACE! My daughter and a friend selected this place to store their items while away for the summer. They thought this place was safer since not as many homeless around the area. Little did they know that the person they needed to watch out for was THE MANAGER Cyndi Sweeten who works at another one of their locations also. This manager took advantage of two young unsuspecting girls and ROBBED THEM blind! I'm positive she's done this many times before. They bought two locks from them that came with two sets of keys but were only given one set. They go back two months later and 99% of their strings are gone. I'm sure the MANAGER sold the keys to some tweakers while turning a blind eye while they make off with all their things. My daughter reports the missing items to them and is told to file a police report and file an insurance claims. Insurance is required so no sweat off their backs. They were so nonchalant because I'm sure it happens all the time especially when it's an inside job. The locks weren't broken, no signs of forced entry, and all kinds of excuses on how people gain access to the units. Who knows how long it will take for the insurance claim to be paid out and that's if they pay it out. This is not how they wanted to start off the school year. We are beyond frustrated! Paid over $800 for a service that was never provided. I'm sure the moment my daughter locked up her stuff and walked out, the manager had a "buyer "for all her stuff. Do not trust this place! You are better off leaving your belongings on the street corner. read more

There are many things I love about this storage facility. Reserving and setting up the lease is super simple, and you can accomplish everything online. It is clean, and there are carts available. The person who works there Cindy is super friendly and very helpful. They do a good job of communicating via email and even texts that are helpful. But after my first 3 months my rate was raised 36% with no warning that I was aware of. Although the agreement says it is month to month and they CAN raise the rate at any time, I was shocked to see that after my third month my rate was increased by $64 - a 36% increase in one month. When I talked to Cindy she said that this was fairly standard rate increase, and that it is typical to raise rates during the first 4 to 6 months, and every 9 months or so after that. And they only notify you via a postcard in the mail, which I do not remember receiving (it is quite possible I did and threw it away not knowing what it was). I understand that a business will need to raise rates. But $70 a month extra But a 36% increase during the first 5 months seems over the top. This company is great about communication - Cindy called me after my move-in, I get monthly emails and texts when my automatic payment is received. But when it came time to raise my rate by 36% - nothing other than a postcard sent in the mail. So I will be moving out by the end of the month (and after confirming that I received both an email and a text from Extra Space immediately). Cindy is amazing, and this is a great facility overall. But these kind of rate increases won't work for me. Maybe they will for you. read more

It was okay i was new to entering the code forgot to add the "*" at the end didn't realize it until later. I pressed that button for help no one answered just assumed no one was there at the time. I did feel uncomfortable when this white truck kept pulling near me and my friend and watched us load all my furniture. Even when we came a second time to haul more stuff the same truck came to watch us again. Didn't identify themselves wasn't sure if it was a worker or someone seeing all of belongings that i stored. I rented a 5x12 unit for $130 and the monthly rent increased multiple times over the next 9 months to $190, at which point I ended my relationship with ES. I was never notified that a rent increase would be a possibility, let alone multiple rent increases in such a short period of time. I called the facility asking to see where the contract stated that the rent would be periodically raised and the woman could not specify where it was stated. I was also not notified of the increases via email (the method of communication for every other related notice) and only realized that they had occurred when looking through the payment confirmation messages. I have since moved my belongings to State Wide Self Storage on the Westside. Their rates and customer service have been far superior. On a somewhat related note, the ES location on 38th is very damp inside and required the use and frequent replacement of moisture-absorbing products. State Wide's location is approximately as close to the ocean as the 38th one, but it is much drier and I've had no issues with moisture there. read more

I rented a 5x5 unit in September 2013 for $46. I was notified that there would be a rental increase in 6 months and I would be provided 30-days notice of that increase. I was required to provide a credit card for automatic withdrawal of the monthly rent. I was NOT informed that a rental increase would occur AUTOMATICALLY every 9 months (until 3 days ago) and range from 15% to 24% as it has during the past 3.5 years. My rent on this 5x5 storage unit has DOUBLED during the past 3.5 years. Its square footage rental rate is now equivalent to the average square footage rental rate for HOUSING in Seattle and Boston. The district team leader (Medeiros) informed me 2 days ago that there is no limit to how much or often Extra Space Storage raises the rate on loyal tenants to match the current "street" rate, that is is entirely computer-generated according to supply and demand. read more
