beware!!!! dont rent a storage space here unless you want to risk all of your valuables being stolen. shout out the "manager" lamont. i moved from a unit where my stuff sat safely for 2 years, into a bigger unit for cheaper (shouldve known) down a hallway without a camera, and 4 ways in/out. hmmm. within about a month, my lock was picked, whole unit torn apart, and all of my most valuable possessions stolen. ironically there are no cameras that show that unit, and if someone had access to other units they could move my stuff into a different unit in the same hallway, without any trace. and then sell the items later. this could only be accomplished by the manager or an acquaintance of his. my lock was picked, unit rifled through and the lock was picked again to re-lock it. only someone with time on their hands would be capable. draw your own conclusion there. i was paid out a tiny insurance payment that covered about 25% of the value of my stolen items. do not rent a unit here!!! i would give negative stars if i could. i paid thousands of dollars for over 2 years only to be robbed. read more

I rented a 10x15 unit with the first month free. Clean room. All the staff I worked with were very respectful, personable and knowledgeable. Pam was especially helpful on the day of my move out. I love that they have a dumpster to help with sorting out trash from items to keep. I got a great promotional deal and would use their service again if I need storage. read more

After my experience with this extra space storage facility I would warn anyone of renting with them. I moved to the area within the past 4 months. Our move in/signing the lease was a very smooth process and everything seemed fine at first. After 2-3 months of renting with them I received a notice in the mail that my rate was being doubled from $140 to $250 ... After reading through the negative reviews I'm not the only one who has had this experience. I decided I would move out and put my things in another location. I went through all the appropriate steps to moving out, and even went into the office to make sure I touched base with who was working to finalize my move out. Over a month later I'm getting a call from them about an overdue payment.. after I've been moved out for a month. Pat the lady who runs the place had a terrible attitude over the phone and the employee I checked in with when moving out forgot to push through the paperwork... even when I went in after moving out to check in at the office with them. If I hadn't removed my card from the account they would have charged me $250 for a unit I had moved out of. This place is sketchy and I'm glad I got out when I did. read more

Scary when there is a strung out meth head is casually changing her "outfit" right in front of the glass walls of the office. I stepped inside and got an immediate creepy vibe from the group of strangers waiting to talk to Ryan. Initially, after chatting on the phone (FYI - hard to be removed from their constant marketing) I got the impression that our storage facility was also a campground for meth heads. However, I seemed to be in my own with that viewpoint as far as management was concerned, except another couple people waiting around. Any who--- all my alarms and red flag warnings were going full tilt while I stood there. I walked out and found another rental facility. PLEASE AVOID this place worst one in this city they be all nice to you upfront so you can storage things in here then when you come and storage here they look at your things that you storage from their buildings that they live on they hide and do it trust me they do it if you look suspicious they would go inside your storage to see what you have then they will take everything that they want they will leave things so it doesn't look like it's them I had a storage here and they went through it I don't have proof but I know it was them they took what they want then lock my door back they didn't even want to help me with the looking at the cameras I had to ask them to look I feel like there is inside jobs at this place because real theifs would of let my door open they told me when I moved in their cameras are good that's why I moved in here then when someone goes in my storage and steals they said our cameras aren't that good like what DONT GO HERE read more

Great customer service! We've rented with Extra Space on West Steele Lane for the past year. Recently we took a bunch of stuff out & decided to transfer the rest to a smaller unit. I reserved the new unit online & Lamone was very helpful -- he called back right away to answer my questions & arranged the transaction so everything went smoothly and we were done in no time. Avoid this place at all costs. I had a bunch of stuff stolen out of my unit and the staff were no help at all. It could've easily been an inside job, I don't trust these people at all. Drug addicts and homeless people are everywhere living out of their unit. There are tons of blind spots where cameras don't capture, including none in any of the hallways making this place not secure at all. Their contract you sign basically exonerates them of any responsibility of absolutely anything so they'll just hide behind it if anything happens. I have significant concern about the security of my good and my personal safety at this facility. Within 24 hours of storing my first car load of goods, the lock was somehow removed and the only item of value was stolen. In addition, when leaving the facility, a person with a backpack was able to just walk in to the "secure" site. My unit is along a dark hallway so I feel at very high risk of an assault on my person. There is literally nothing in place to protect the customer from physical harm. When I raised this with one of the staff I was advise that they have had issues with customer safety. I appreciate the honesty but would expect proactive measures to be taken to protect customers. read more

Wow. This place deserves much better than one 1-star rating. If you want storage in Santa Rosa, there's a lot of places, but they're divided into two general clusters - along Santa Rosa Ave. in the southern reaches of town, then a little cluster of places up north around the Airway/Hopper/Piner area. For some reason I found the Santa Rosa Ave. places to be disproportionately staffed and run by rude people and mental cases, plus, y'know, Santa Rosa Avenue. So that leaves this cluster in the north. I've stored up here four different times in the last 6 years or so, and every time I ended up going to this Extra Space, primarily because of their pricing and their extended gate hours being much longer than anyone else (6 am - 10 pm). I've also found you can generally get a unit here for the same price that the other places are charging for one size smaller. I honestly don't know if California legally mandates some form of insurance on storage units. It does seem to be standard practice for a lot of places (at least the big chains) to require some form, though. What it breaks down to for me is that even with their mandatory $10 extra per month, the unit still costs significantly less for the size than anyone else nearby. Plus you get $2000 of automatic coverage. If the $10 sounds prohibitive, you can probably get some form of insurance through a private carrier that meets their requirements for a few bucks less. The staff over the years has been very good, and the current office staff is great. I have no worries about security here - they have a resident manager who lives right above the office. The place also isn't conducive to hobos using their unit as their daytime abode, and its in a quiet little area. Good as it gets in Santa Rosa. read more

This place has some top notch service. The management team has really gone above and beyond the call of duty. The team is FAR superior to the place I just came from, Storage Masters. Clean facility, flexible hours and great service. The last place had two out of three and their management style left something to be desired. I left because the condescending attitude from policy questions was just awful. PRO TIP: their internet specials offer better rates than in person. Avoid this place. My daughter had her storage unit broken into twice and now she has to file a police report because of missing items. The surveillance cameras do absolutely no good because you cannot see right at the units in question. It is also very easy for someone to access through the gate by just following someone in. The people there have said they are dealing with this internally but I'm not sure they are. We have spoken with Sean and Ryan both to no avail. We are no longer there, but I would highly recommend going to another storage place. Oh and if you call the corporate office to file a complaint they cannot help you because it's a criminal matter. read more

Easy Process, Secure, friendly people

DO NOT RENT WITH THIS COMPANY!!!! I am a return customer and though my previous rental experience with them was great this is a deal breaker. Never again. My boyfriend and I rented a unit together, it charges a joint account, I have the key, I get the bill. Yet I pull in to the property and my gate code is denied, go inside tell them my problem they ask "what's your unit #" I tell them and get this response "hope not cause' that unit was emptied" come to find out that someone else who was NOT listed as someone with access into our unit was given access. Better yet, they didn't think to even contact anyone on the list of people who ARE allowed access to make sure this is a legit person taking our things! My boyfriend is no longer in town, though it was not him who emptied the unit, they won't give me any information as to the whereabouts of my items. Saying my name isn't on the contract! Well....it may be in his name but its my address, my a email, my account that is billed. And MY STUFF. So unless you want your belongings stolen DO NOT USE THIS PROPERTY TO STORE ANYTHING YOU CARE ABOUT! They will apparently walk right up to your unit that you think is safe, cut your lock, and let your things drive away. Oh, then they won't help you until you've got a warrant or subpoena. The facilities are good and the staff is WONDERFUL! A good place for short-term (six months or less) storage. We've used it three years and the rate goes up every 6 months. As a result, starting this month (1/1/16), we will be paying 40% [!] more than we did when we rented. The Consumer Price Index has barely budged in that time and my income has gone up 0%. I'm pretty sure the Extra Space owners are not paying their employees 40% more than they paid them 3 years ago. I like this place but have to find a less rapacious company to deal with. read more

Extra Space Storage on W Steele Lane is an excellent option in the highly competitive storage space market. In particular, office managers, Samantha and Mark, are thoughtful, flexible, professional and personable. They will, and do, go out of their way to help you coordinate move in and out details, site access for moving company vendors, clean-up, etc. Additionally, the site is clean and secure with garbage bins! (a rarity at storage sites), security cameras, and exterior lighting for those dark winter afternoon storage unit sorting sessions. Prices are fair and can be negotiated. When we went in we where helped by the other location manager Mark, who also was very helpful, friendly and proffesional and we got set up with out storage.
