Extra Space in West Sac was pretty impressive. In my 44 years of life, I have never needed a storage unit or space for anything, so this was all new to me. The reason for needing one now was, I had just purchased a travel trailer & needed a spot to park it. I was very impressed with the lobby/entrance of the location, very clean and well kept. Jillian was the on-site manager and was very helpful in answering all my questions and showed me the spot, explained everything in detail and was very pleasant. I had read the reviews on Yelp prior to arriving, but I always just use those reviews as informational. I Iike to make/ come to my own conclusions. The key factors for me in a storage unit for my travel trailer were: 1. Security 2. Easy of getting my rig in the spot 3. Price The reason price is third is because it was more important to me to be able to get my trailer in the spot because I am new at hauling. The outside neighborhood isn't that great, but the space does feel very secure from the inside. The only downside in my opinion is the price. I swore Id be OK with paying more if I was JUST ABLE to get my trailer into a spot with ease and not stress about backing that big boy up, but the $76 a month I pay is quite higher than most places I called around West Sac. For now, it'll remain there, and maybe I can get a deal here if one comes up because I do like the spot and really dont want to have to move it because of the monthly price. read more

This place allows your personal items to be stolen. They do not monitor the property, they allow anyone to come in and out. I had personal items stolen and all I got was a this, "I don't give a cramp attitude." and telling me the insurance claim will be denied. They did not bother to look at their surveillance videos. The onsite manager lives right above and cannot even pay attention to people in and out. This is too suspicious! I contacted the District office to speak with a Supervisor who is over ALL site managers. She never called me but stated she did. Wrong! then she was not a "District Supervisor," but site supervisor when I was very specific I wanted to speak with a District Supervisor. All I have got was a complete runaround and no return call from a District Supervisor! I contacted PD to be told this is a common occurrence. They do not warn customers of the theft, but they keep increasing their rates including auctioning off customers belonging. Including I've had to spray my storage from roaches crawling from other customers storage. For them not to warn customers of any theft that has taken place. I feel it is a scam. UPDATE: male employee working there started yelling accused me of being the one of breaking into customer storages. That is how they deal with customer's concerns and theft. In addition, one of the gates do not even lock and they also have surveillance video. They better have me on surveillance video taking customer's belongings. I am not taking the accusation lightly. read more

The manager straight swindler he straight suckered us in by charging us 190.00 for a 30"x10 so we couldn't nor wouldn't want to refuse. Straight begs us to leave a positive review without informing us that the following month was about to jump up to 220.00 the following month. & Then on top of looked for almost any reason to kick us out literally went out of his way. While working on the inside of our storage my wife and I had lost track of time and fallen asleep this is during business hours might I add you management comes in opens up our unit and then tells us we have to leave and following day come to find a lock on our unit and says he's evicting us over that way petty bro. Needed a 10x20 storage unit. Called this extra space location (currently have a unit with extra space storage but current location didn't have a unit I was looking for available) and spoke to Rayna. She was VERY helpful in finding what I needed as well as going above and beyond to make sure all requests were met (communicated in a timely manner, emailed confirmation quickly, reminder follow up for unit available, and even communicated to current location to cancel the unit). This place used to be great. They were reasonably priced and good customer service. It's all gone down hill. I have had units with them for years. They started increasing prices constantly, you can expect price increases every month. They give discounts to get you in, then rack up the price. They are now so out of line with the rest of Sacramento that I have a storage facility in a nice part of East Sacramento that is significantly cheaper then here in West Sacramento. Further, they show no loyalty to their long term customers. Moving so needed another facility, bit the bullet on price as they are near the house I am selling. Called expressed I needed another unit and to put on my credit card. Showed up a couple days later on my first day off, and was told that they no longer do holds, and that they gave the last unit away. I said why? And they said people go online/call but never rent. Sure if l was some dude off the street... but I have two units with them and a 5 year relationship. Didn't even offer to discount other units to get me near the price I would have been paying. Well you can gouge me for a month but you will be losing my companies long term business, as I might be forced now to work with you but I am now motivated to move all my units somewhere else. read more

I am dealing with the aftermath of a recent burglary from this facility in which I lost nearly $10,000 of stuff. My unit was an interior unit, inside one of the buildings (not climate controlled, but still indoor access). The security in this facility appears adequate - there's a gate with keypad that controls access to the facility, exterior video cameras, plus individual alarms on each unit, and my big padlock on the unit itself. Unfortunately: 1) There are no cameras in the interior hallways. 2) There is a flaw in their physical security that allowed a burglar to gain access to my unit. I won't describe the details, but the police officer who took my report described how the burglary was committed. The flaw in their system allowed the burglar to get past both my padlock, and the electronic alarm on the unit's roll up door. Bottom line...I cannot trust that this unit is secure, and I don't think you should either. It's a shame, because the location and prices are good, and the staff are friendly and competent. But until the security issues are dealt with, I have zero confidence that my stuff will be secure. read more

Terrible service!!!!! Office is NEVER open and management is beyond rude. Rent was raised several times over my two year account with them. I attempted to give notice 3 times but the office was always locked during business hours, I am being charged for a full month because of this. I called and the Manager basically said, "well our contract this.... our contract that". NO CONCERN for customer service. I will never EVER use any extra space storage again. read more

If I could, I would give this company zero stars. They get you in with a competitive rate and within 3 months your rates are drastically increased and become way overpriced. I think their thinking is that it is easier for you to keep paying than it is to move. I was shocked at the rudeness of their employee and how the higher you go in their company the story just keeps changing with every person. I have rented here for a few years due to lack of knowledge of storage units when I first rented and laziness on my part to move my stuff once it had been placed. I would not recommend this facility due to poor management. The facility itself is clean, however whenever you want to talk to anyone, there is no one available. I one time showed up and the doors were locked during business hours and the front desk lady was eating her lunch upstairs and refused to unlock the door, or assist for another 25 minutes. How can you conduct a business like this? Additionally, when trying to add an individual onto my access they required that the person be financially responsible for the unit as well, which makes no sense considering I was already responsible for paying and paying timely. Their policies and procedures are out of control and the management is less than helpful. read more

This Storage company refuses to work with their customers! My husband and I wanted to rent a 10X20 unit but instead we were given two 10x10 units side-by-side. Once we moved our belongings in we realized we only needed one of the 10x10 units. But when we tried to cancel the empty unit we were told we can't do that because it's "in the system as one 10x20 unit." It should be noted that these are TWO COMPLETELY SEPARATE units - two doors, two locks, two different unit numbers, and a wall between the two. There is no reason why the empty one can't be sold as a 10x10 to a different customer. We were told the only way we can pay for a single 10x10 unit was to move all of our stuff into a different unit. Absolutely absurd. They're refusing to work with us because of a computer program that I'm sure could easily be adjusted to reflect the REALITY that they are two different units. We contacted customer service and they couldn't solve my problem. I was told the issue was elevated to the district manager and that they would call me back, but they never did. You can be sure if we're asked to move into a different 10x10 unit we will be moving out of their storage facility entirely and finding one that will actually work with their customers. read more

We were told when we became a customer that we would have the opportunity to pay annually and lock in the current rate as well as get the 13th month free. This in fact is NOT TRUE. I missed doing it last year and made sure to mark my calendar for this year, but when the time came to pay I was told that was not an accurate option. I was told my case would be reviewed and depending on the demand for my size storage I could get a price adjustment. Well no price adjustment was made, and yet there are 3 available units exactly my size and amenities. So that tells me the demand is NOT that high. And on line prices do not apply to current customers, so my unit goes for $68 on line and I am being charged $81 in person. Doesn't make sense to me! I don't appreciate being lied to, and will be moving to the new storage facility that will open up in 2014, much closer to my home here in W. SAC! read more

Me & my mom couldn't be happier with this extra space storage! We are in the midst of moving and needed a large unit that was accessible & clean. Devon helped us when we came to rent the unit & he was pleasant, professional & very knowledgeable. He made sure we understood the rental process, answered all of our questions, showed us our unit & made sure we felt comfortable leaving our things there as we have had bad experiences with storage places in the past. He made us feel very safe & ensured we knew they walk around the entire facility & check every units lock daily! This facility is huge, so clean and spacious! That was also one of our biggest worries, cleanliness...The whole process was quick & painless & Devon also made sure we got our first month free! I recommend this facility to anyone looking for a place to store their things even if it's for a month or two or an extended period, there's literally no need to look any further! I can't recommend this place highly enough. It's spotlessly clean, professionally run and very secure. In addition to a coded gate entrance, each unit is individually alarmed. The two employees I met couldn't have been nicer. I've never encountered professional customer service at a storage facility. It made me comfortable that my furniture was in good hands. Additionally, the Extra Space rates for my air-conditioned unit was less than the rate quote several UNair-conditioned facilities in Davis. I'd use Extra Space again in a heartbeat. read more

Over the years, I've rented many storage units in different cities. This is the first time that i have experienced this particular problem to a degree I felt was unfair. I'd definitely give this 4-5 starts, except for one glaring issue: They (the company policies) are very financially aggressive. They repay customer loyalty with never-ending significant price hikes. If I recall correctly, when I first rented my unit there was a 'one month free' promotion. Then at about 3 months of tenancy, there was the first rate hike, (which, spread over one year, definitely recouped that 'free' month's rent in one extended gulp). If I understand what they told me correctly, this was not a facility-wide hike, but is programmed for each renter individually. Then periodically, more than once a year I believe, the rates are increased much more frequently and higher than I have ever experienced. It is as if they know that they have you over a barrel, and fully exploit the situation because they understand what a pain it is to change storage locations. My last single rate hike was more than 17%. After trying to better understand the situation talking with the front staff, I've been told that a (supervisor) would call me but nobody called. For the most part this is otherwise a very good facility. The persons working the front usually seem very professional and knowledgable, although not as clear and forthcoming about the company financial policy as I would like, (which seems veiled in some kind of mysterious process.) The facility is clean, well maintained and has a seemingly decent security gate and although the neighborhood doesn't look as if it is the best, it is definitely not the worst. And to be fair, I've never seen a roach in the hallways, as Rolando apparently did, nor am I aware of seeing the 'homeless people' he said are here, unless they are the ones driving up in their cars renting the units, which would be understandable in these times...but then again maybe we just had units in very disparate and different areas of the facility. They do have nice options in types of units available, from drive-up to climate controlled and more. And their prices are competitive, despite the subsequent gouging. If price is a concern to you as it is to me, you might consider getting trying to get them to clearly (and in writing), before you sign, advise you when and how much the rate hikes will be before you rent the unit, so it won't be such a surprise when it does occur. A couple of of the minor things: 1. Personally, I'd like it if they didn't always have music/radio playing in the halls, because I like to be able to hear someone approaching especially when I'm there at night. I'll wear my own earbuds if I want to stay clueless to my surroundings. 2. sometimes the carts haven't been available, even when there isn't apparently other people using them. They don't seem to have many carts for the size of their facility, but that's subjective. The impression is that ESS puts some formula in some computer somewhere, and decided how to maximize the finances, without regard to creating or appreciating customer loyalty. Which is a darn shame for an otherwise nice place. read more
