I had a stroke and my vision changed. When I called the office to make an appointment they told me i had to wait a year because my insurance only covers eye exams every two years. I begged, pleaded, explained something was wrong and this wasn't a standard exam. They said, no. I waited with horrible vision for almost a year and found out that, yes, my insurance would have covered me for something like that and they should have let me make an appointment. When I finally had my exam, the first eye tech told me there was nothing wrong with my eyes and my prescription was the same. Then the doc came in told me 1. I have cataracts, and 2. my prescription went up a whole number (from -3 to -4) . Doctor was nice, but everything else was awful. read more

I've gone to the Niagara Falls office for many years now and have not had to wait long for an appointment nor in the waiting room. I feel that my concerns are heard, my exam is complete, the doctor listens and gives me good advice. The exams are thorough and utilize several rooms and equipment tests. I do get my prescriptions filled at another site from a friend so I can't evaluate the frame collection or service there. read more

I've been coming here for maybe 5 years, maybe a little longer. The optical shop is in the front while the optometrist is in the back (kinda like a mullet). They share the same door and when the doctor's office is closed a gate will be down. The waiting room of the doctor's office is pretty spacious with a variety of seating and a TV. Upon walking in you will walk up the receptionist desk that has two spaces for patients. My biggest displeasure about this office is actually the receptionist desk. They are not incredibly friendly or helpful, generally they want to get you in and out, no time for pleasantries which is funny because they dont really seem to do much else. Once checked in you will be called back by a technician, they will escort you to a small room where they will conduct your vision test with various letter charts, will check the pressure of your eye and dilate them. So be warned, there are various eye drops. Once complete depending on how busy the office is you will be escorted to the 2nd waiting room which is an old ex room, complete with table and chair. It makes for an intimate sit when other patients are waiting otherwise you may be taken to the exam room. One thing I find funny is how little you will see of your eye doctor, he or she (but I believe they are all men) will come in with the (grump) assistant. The doctor will check your eyes, since now dilated I guess they can see right into. I felt like making a joke about the eye being the window to the soul but the moment didn't feel right. Usually this is the quickest part, a few looks, flashes of light and you are sent to the receptionist desk to get your script if applicable and out the door. For the last several years I've come to the optical shop to obtain my glasses as well. The friendliness and banter depends on who is working but they are nice enough. They do not have a huge selection when you compare it to the walls of frames that line store you may see in a Walmart or mall but these employees know their insurances and can generally give you a selection of frames that fit your face and within your coverage for the right price. Additionally once they come in they will custom fit the frames with a little machine that warms them, clean the frames of the glasses you wore in and give you a bottle of cleaner. Additionally if you ever need those frames corrected later, bring then back in. read more

I was not told until I was signing in for my appointment that the doctor was not in the office. I was also told that because it was their mistake and that I was already there, that they could check me out that day for the standard tests and have me come back the week after to be seen by the doctor at no additional charge. Instead, when I came back the next week they did charge me for a 2nd appointment. They were very insistent that they did nothing wrong and would not do anything to help me. So I got charged for 2 appointments because they failed to let me know the doctor was not in the office and then lied to me on how they would handle the billing. I spoke to many employees and many levels of employees, all of which spoke very condescendingly to me. What they did was wrong and nothing more than a very amoral business practice. Seen Dr. Dusse Tuesday 8/15 with a horrible bloodshot eye and was told it was an allergy and not prescribed anything or given any instructions. Fast forward to Sunday 8/19 and my eye is horrible bloodshot with eye pain and orbital bone pain. Seen Dr. Matasati the next day and was diagnosed with raging scleritis and prescribed Prednisone drops and had to get blood work workup for Rheumatoid factors and my ANA came back positive. Why did I have to wait 5 days to get it diagnosed correctly and why is my portal still not showing lab values. Please let Dr. Matasati know my ANA is positive. I've been coming to ECVA for about 4 years now, for my once-a-year check-up. The staff is friendly enough, and they've always gotten me in and out very quickly. Dr. Hammersmith is pleasant, though not chit-chatty, and respects your time. My only complaint with the eye care office is that you don't get a reminder about coming in for a check-up. There are enough things to keep track of in life, and it would be nice to get a reminder to schedule an appointment. Now for the optical shop. It's very chic and recently been renovated and enlarged. The prices are high, but you will find the designer names. I have never ordered glasses from them, for two main reasons: 1) prices are too high. Warby Parker online is just fine with me. I don't need Calvin Klein or Fendi glasses. Waste of money. 2) The staff has always been a little pushy. I agree with the other reviewer's comments about them trying to up-sell. They also gave me significant attitude when I asked for my contacts prescription. In this case, the doctors office sent it right over to the optical shop without giving me a copy. Granted, they knew I was going to shop elsewhere, but they guaranteed me not buying from them by giving me attitude. All in all, I will be on the hunt for a new optometrist as they ECVA feels cold and pushy to me. read more

This is a review for the optical shop, which is technically at 930 Elmwood but it is all in the same building. Give yourself an extra minute before any appointment in this building because you are likely to walk in the wrong door the first time. I went here to get an updated prescription to go in already existing frames. Folks were very nice, but like many optical stores really try to upsell you on all the additional things you should be getting on your lenses (UV, polarization, polycarbonate, etc.). As I was just getting sunglasses, I felt no need to go crazy and said I just wanted basic plastic glasses. They convinced me that I should get polycarbonate (and pay more for it) because that is what I had in the glasses I was bringing in. Well it ends up they were wrong about that. The lenses I had were just plastic. It also ends up that polycarbonate lenses don't get as dark as plastic, so when I went to pick my glasses up I was surprised at how light the tint was. They took them back and it took another week to get them darker. Now I have nice dark sunglasses. Whew, finally. The people who work here are pretty nice and I have never had to wait very long. Their prices seem standard, but their inventory of frames is a bit thin. It would also be good if they had extended hours at least one day a week or maybe some weekend hours. There was no way for me to pick up my glasses without leaving work early. read more

I have been to this location (Orchard Park) three times now. There are two people who work at the front counter. One person is methodical while the other is generally unpleasant and argumentative. On this visit, after waiting in the exam room for a half an hour, I over heard a staff member saying that the doctor had called and was stuck in traffic at the blue water tower but would be there "in a few minutes". In normal traffic the blue water tower is 20 minutes away but during rush hour it is 30 or more minutes away. My extended family has been going to ECVA for years as we were friends with the practice founders. Today's silliness brought an end to our patronage. I went in for my yearly check-up and the receptionist could not find my insurance on her computer. I had a billing issue with them before -they did not submit my claim and billed me so I had to pay out of pocket for services that should have been covered. Given this experience, I thought I should call my husband to check with our insurance to be sure they were still a participating provider. I ran out of the house without my phone, so I asked if I could call from their phone. They Said NO! they didn't have public phones. I hardly think that a longstanding patient is the "public". This practice has changed ownership since we started with them. Apparently, they can afford to alienate their patients. The lost at least three today. If they treat someone like this on a small thing, beware how they will act if a real problem arises. As of this afternoon, I still need my eyes examined and ECVA needs their collective head examined. read more

The doctors are lovely. Unfortunately the optical boutique associate with the doctors have great variability in the staff they higher. Oppose to medical professionals, they reflects a bait and switch car salesman mentality. Buyer be ware. Hidden charges, additional fees for services that are not revealed on the spot. Contact lens"fittings" have an additional charge. Discussions of dissatisfaction are met with rude condescending remarks that reinforce the need to enquire about their fine print. read more

I would like to start off by saying I've been to the Niagara Falls location and it's the best location. I have been taken care of by the assistant Brittany I believe her name was?? Amazing, Funny, Knowledgable & "Refracted" me (she taught me that word) and there were no problems with the prescription she gave me (I actually still have the glasses). She was very kind and moved fast but didn't rush you out of the room, I fortunately have seen Brittany during my last two visits. You can tell she is a great worker along with the other lady who works along side of her! Reception does great too, They remember you as you walk in. 5 Stars for Niagara Falls location. On the other hand.. I have been to the Williamsville/Niagara falls locations because I tried to stay away from the elmwood location because of the technician with the blonde hair who has no name tag on & I unfortunately was stuck with her at Williamsville location this time!!!!! Not pleasant at all. I will forever be going to Niagara Falls location. Looking at reviews I am not the only one... One bad apple will ruin a whole practice. read more

I came here because its close to home, and the generally positive reviews. Frame selection was OK (not great) but I managed to find something I liked fairly well for $260 (one of the cheapest frames in the place) - a higher price than what I had hoped to pay, but maybe my expectations aren't reasonable in today's market. Two weeks later my glasses arrived, and I stopped in to pick them up, and was instructed by a somewhat grim, middle aged man to "sign in" and wait, even though there was only one other person in this small office. After 15 minutes of waiting I just got up and left. Returned a week later, and lucked out by being served immediately. I slipped on my new glasses and was told they were "perfect" - no questions about whether they were comfortable (they weren't) or offers to adjust anything. Just a quick take your final payment and goodbye. If I had it to do all over again I'd probably go somewhere with a better frame selection and greater emphasis on customer service, even if it meant a schlep out to the 'burbs. read more

Beware of this physician practice billing. Have seen this group in the past for routine eye exam with no issues. Recently had an appointment for routine eye exam and the exam was billed as "medical" - hence no eye care charges covered by my insurance. This means that I had to pay the bill in full and the practice makes more money because they don't have to accept the discounted insurance rate! They just did this to my boyfriend as well. My son has a rare eye condition and needed a specialists because the closest one for us would have been Toronto, so we thought the states is much closer and I randomly picked Ecva optical shop on Elmwood and they has an eye specialist his name was Stephen Rauscher he said it won't be an easy fix as one eye was 60/20 the other 40/20. Well he did an amazing job and now is seeing @ 25/20 with fitted contacts....great job Stephen!! We are Very very happy... thank you read more
