Cons: A little light on the info with respect to the actual procedure and what to expect afterwards. I did a ton of research before settling on TLC. I read a bunch, watched youtube videos of the procedure, and even visited multiple Lasik vendors in Madison to get a comparison. I chose TLC because they were the most braggy about their equipment and their surgeon. They have state of the art lasers and a surgeon that has done 100,000+ surgeries. They are a bit of a factory, but that's kind of what I wanted. I wanted what I considered to be major eye surgery to be just another day at the office for the guy fixing my eyes. I don't want to be practiced on, I want an expert that finds my case slightly boring. Which is where I think the source of my criticism that they were light on the info comes from. I think because they pump people out, they don't give excess info and just go through the motions. I had to ask every time what each instrument did and what they were doing, because otherwise, they didn't explain, unless asked. When asked they were happy to answer, but I wanted them to be a little more forthcoming. I was a textbook case, my vision was -3.00/-3.50 with the tiniest astigmatism in one eye. So slight that my eye doctor that I've gone to for the past 10 years never bothered to mention it to me. And now I see perfectly! The actual procedure is really cool, but also very uncomfortable. You just have to get through it. The cost is high, it's like paying for a lifetime of glasses and contacts all at once, but the ultimate convenience factor and benefits are very high. Overall, worth it.

I don't buy my contacts there because they're almost double the price of what I can buy them for at Costco. They will give you a printed prescription if you ask. My insurance now covers the $35 for the imaging of the back of my eye but even before it was covered it was well worth the $35 to not have half a day where I cannot see because I had my pupils dilated. I'm taking off a star because of a couple issues. I brought my glasses in to have the prescription read last year and it was never entered into my chart I was then told I would need to make an appointment to bring them in for a second time to have them read. It's really inconvenient to have to take off time from work for a mistake they made as they're not open on Saturdays. The second issue being that the eye doctor seemed really annoyed with me that I haven't gotten the new glasses she wants me to get. I have had the same glasses for about 10 years and don't feel I am having issues with seeing out of them--in fact I still wear them instead of my contacts if I am doing up close work like embroidery. When I asked if the new prescription was much different than the glasses I already have they were unable to tell me since they read and then didn't enter the prescription. They asked if I brought my glasses with me--why would I when I brought them last year? They also seemed annoyed that I am not wearing readers when I use the computer which I explained was because they give me a headache. I was told to use a lower power, which would only be available somewhere online, and should hold the lens up to light to see if they look distorted--hard to do when buying online. I decided not to explain that I had tried a couple different strengths and found they all gave me a headache. Just didn't sit super well with me to feel like I'm trying to explain I'm seeing well and I'm being told I just need to buy the new glasses and I have to wear readers. My parents had a similar feeling about their eye visits with the same eye doctor. I'll give them another shot but after that I'll ask to see someone else.

I originally tried to go to 'Chicago Cornea Consultants' because that is where my eye doctor tried to send me. When I went to my consultation I was very grossed out by their facility and found out the only reason my eye doctor sent me there was because he had a deal with them and received money for each person he sent there. I called my insurance company after the consultation (which I should have done at the beginning of this process) and found out I could get a discount through them if I went to LasikPlus. My insurance company (Blue Cross Blue Shield - HMO) made my free consultation appointment with LasikPlus on my behalf which made me feel safe and secure. Right when I walked into the LasikPlus facility in Schaumburg, I felt so welcome and at ease. Getting lasik is a nerve-racking experience and the staff at LasikPlus is next level. Everyone I talked to was kind and open to answering any questions I had (trust me, I had a lot). During my consultation they determined I was a perfect candidate. Not sure if this made a difference, but at the beginning of this process I did not wear my contacts for almost 3 weeks before my consultation and never again after that (I ran out of contacts but this was a suggestion from my eye doctor). After determining I was a good candidate, they told me if I scheduled my surgery ASAP I would get an additional discount due to scheduling early. I said HELL YES, and had my surgery the next week. The day of the surgery was pretty crazy. There was a snow storm (I got it done on January 23rd). Something crazy happened and a man who got lasik earlier that day broke the machine. This meant that no one could get their surgery on that machine for the day. Everyone who was scheduled for surgery that day in Schaumburg were sent to the Oak Brook location since that location luckily had no appointments for the day. I still had the awesome Dr. Horn do the surgery. Even with all the chaos, LasikPlus handled it flawlessly and I was home faster than I expected. They also gave a discount due to everything that happened with the change in location. My actual surgery lasted all of 10 minutes, which was wild. My brother drove me home and I fell asleep immediately. I would suggest getting your prescriptions BEFORE the surgery because we stopped at the pharmacy on the way home and it delayed me getting to sleep as soon as possible. I would recommend LasikPlus to anyone looking to get lasik. I am so happy with this investment and kind of can't shut up about it. I went to my 1-day follow up appointment THE NEXT MORNING with 20/15 vision. Unbelievable, perfect vision. FYI - I would 100% recommend anyone who deals with allergies to get the surgery done in the winter so you don't have to deal with your eyes itching while you are going through the healing process. ****IMPORTANT**** I did not drink enough water or eat enough the day I got lasik.
