5 minutes ago New The appointment was scheduled for 7:15 which is when they open.At 7:15 staff was just showing up to the office. There were over 15 people waiting outside the door for the building to be opened. Many of them were elderly or handicapped with very limited out side seating. Thankfully the weather was good. Once in you stood in a line to check in. There was no order as to who checked in first. I was the 3rd to arrive since I arrived the standard 15-20 minutes before my appointment but about the 15th to be checked in. The staff was friendly and seemed professional and organized. My problem was with Dr Smith. I felt that he was condescending and not very patient. He was using a very bright light to look into my eyes. There was no forewarning or suggestions on how I was to do this. It was a very hard task for me. I apologized repeatedly. Dr Smith said to me " If you can't look into the light how do you expect us to do the surgery?" I felt like as a failure as he failed to understand how difficult this was for me. He showed no compassion and I felt like I was wasting his time. I try hard to follow instructions and felt very upset when I left his office. Possibly Dr Smith could have given me instructions to make this process easier. He does it everyday ... me once in my lifetime. I will be looking for someone more compassionate to do my surgery ... that I will be paying for. read more

Excellent services. I traveled from Aiken to Augusta and will do so again. The Eye guys in Augusta are caring and attentive. I recommend them to anyone seeking an eye physician and suggest they go the extra mile for service. I had my cataracts removed and would do it again, choosing the same doctor. I had an appt with Dr Doug Ellenberger, OD I was having some issues dealing with my first eye floater. Dr Ellenberger was pleasant and thorough with his exam and explanation of his findings. A common problem with reviewers is the extraordinarily time wasted in this office trying to be seen by a doctor. Scrolling back 11 years in the reviews, patients are complaining about having to wait 3 hours to be seen. The most recent reviews are the same. No excuse for having patients in the office for 2-3 hours for an eye exam. The doctors are good but the objective is clearly on quantity. read more

Its like a cattle call in that office. Appointment took almost 3 hours and I was moved from first waiting room filled to capacity to a testing room and then another testing room room and then made to wait again in a small room with about twenty other people before seeing the doctor just for a regular eye exam. I think we all know how hard it is to find good customer service these days. No matter how good your medical provider is, the front desk staff absolutely makes all of the difference. Zechariah and Lauren immediately were ready to help me when I walked through the front door, greeted me in a friendly and professional way, and made the whole process easy to understand. When I checked out they gave me the same service. There have been times where I have had to find another provider because the staff in a doctor's office made the experience difficult and inefficient. Tried to make an annual exam for my daughter. Misty spent 6 minutes explaining some insurances won't cover an exam. I understand Misty made the appointment. Three additional minutes were spent rambling on the phone. Physicians, remember the girls who answer your phones are your gatekeepers and determine whether you have a new patient or not. I will not be back, nor will anyone else in my family. I am continually disappointed with your call center staff and their bad attitudes. I hate leaving bad reviews, but I feel the ordinary person needs to know before going to this establishment. First off If you do not have a medical issue, DO NOT expect your health insurance to cover the cost. I wasn't told this before hand. I went for annual eye exam, first time doing so. Showed my health insurance (United healthcare) at visit, paid my 60.00 copay. Met Dr Morgan who was really nice, did Feel a bit rushed, but no big deal, I didn't have any issues so not much to talk about. I do have prescription glasses and thought I would get a new prescription to get a new pair, as mine are over 2 years old, but was told my glasses were working fine. A few weeks went by and I got a 210.00 invoice in the mail. When discussing bill with billing department. I was told because I came in for an eye exam and didn't have any issues, my insurance wouldn't cover it. I was apologized to and told that the answering service they use does not always clearly relay that to the customers. I asked ok well is there any way this amount could be discounted as I was not aware of this and I have vision insurance separate from Health and would have certainly gone else where and used my vision insurance as I've done in the past. So this mishap cost me 270.00 and feel as though I am just another number and no cares given. Expensive lesson learned. FYI my husband was seen for the same eye exam, except he had headaches, that the doctor said wasn't related to his eyes, also has same exact insurance and all he paid was his 60.00 co pay. read more

Do not go to this facility. I had cataract surgery for multifocal and when they tell you the charges it is this amount but when you start scheduling the surgery they say well there is this added to it which is about an extra $400.00 dollars and then they say insurance won't cover any and they don't file it but yes they do and then they add more charges to you because insurance only paid so much. You need to ask up front about all that they will charge before having any thing done because they nickel and dime you for everything!!!!!!. I had lasik surgery done years ago (not at this facility) and they gave me one price total that covered everything even all the followup visits until I was fully released. Also I always have felt at EYEGUYS like I was just a number and they wanted to rush me through. Ryan Smith if you asked him a question he says oh it will be ok don't worry about it and he never really explains in detail what is going to take place. I had cataract surgery on my left eye several weeks ago. I had my right eye done yesterday. If I had three eyes I would get that one done too. If you have been told you need cataract surgery but have not had it done because you were afraid it would hurt, let me set your mind at rest. I am the biggest chicken when it comes to pain. I never felt any pain whatsoever. I felt nothing during the surgery and after the anesthesia wore off my eye did not hurt, it was never sore and it was not watery or runny. Everyone I came in contact with from the Patient Representatives to the nurses, eye physicians and surgeons excelled at their jobs. So if you have been putting it off by all means get it done. Just be sure you use Eye Guys they are the best. My eye physician and surgeon was Dr. Gardner aka Superman. You will not believe what you have been missing visually. So don't delay just get it done. read more

I arrived there 10 minutes before my scheduled time. I went to the counter and turned in my pre-filled out paper work and paid the $45 co-pay. I was told to have a seat and wait for the doctor. After I had sat there waiting for 30 minutes and older man went up to the counter and requested his co-pay back as he as he had been sitting for over an hour and they said they were sorry that they are backed up at the time! I had sat there for over an hour waiting and I was finally called back. The nurse did a test of some sort on my eyes and I was told to have a seat and wait again. I sat there for 15 minutes until another lady called me back for another eye test that seemed to be the same as the last one. She asked for my paperwork and I told her I turned it in at the desk when I first checked in. She then went to the desk and after awhile of waiting I went out and pointed to the person I had given it to and there was no response from either of them. When the lady came back in to test me again I asked her if I would have to fill the paperwork out all over again and she just shrugged her head meaning I probably would and and do I want the test or not? I then asked her how long all of the testing would take and she said about 3 hours! I then walked out! If I would have been told 3 hours in the first place I would not have made the appointment in the first place! Poor service and no respect for the customers time by having me wait, and wait, and wait and then tell me it takes 3 hours for testing just to see if I need the service or not! read more

The office staff is the worst I've ever experienced. The triage line never calls you back. They sit on a new prescription for over a month and do nothing about getting it authorized with your insurance until you call and ask what is going on. Save yourself from hidden cost. They will bill your insurance and then turn around and tell you that even though you got an eye exam, you have to pay $40 for your prescription after you have just paid $60 for a co-pay. The office staff is rude and not helpful at all. Walked into bright, airy professional waiting area that was in flux of renovations. Receptionists seemed overwhelmed when lines became long to check in. We had to refill paperwork as we hadn't been here in 3 years and they have a new computer system for past 2 years. Overall, most staff are friendly and efficient. Initial checkin and meeting with asst to take down info and do the tests take over an hour. Dr. Ryan Smith the optometrist had pics on his wall depicting volunteering his time for free eye care in other countries. I like that trait in a doc. It shows he cares. Dr. Smith was very good making suggestions and offerings based on my father's age. Checking in to the visit to checking out took under 1.5 hours. I like the visit today. read more

I've only made it through my first appointment and feel quite discouraged. I went in for an initial consultation with a narrow angle glaucoma diagnosis, and was there for an almost 3 hours! I had an eye exam first - the young woman was very kind. My glasses didn't match what my prescription should have been, so she said I'd get my new prescription before I left. I never received it. Then I was seated in the waiting room for another text, which I got. Then I saw Dr. Gardner, who I really liked. He offered a lot of good information and said that I would get more info to take home with me, including recommendations for eye supplements ... never received the additional info or recommendations! He also said he'd like to do one more test before my surgery - but that information also did not get passed forward. My last 'stop' at the office was the 'benefits waiting room' where I waited for a significant amount time before I saw a woman whose role was to scheduled my procedures. She seemed quite disorganized. I told her that the dr. wanted another test before my procedures ... she told me that it should be done after my procedures, so she did not schedule it. After I left her office - I went to the front desk to check out... they said I could just leave - I was done. No additional info for me, no prescription for eye corrections, no recommendations for supplements. I felt like I was on an assembly line in the office and so much of the information was missed as I went from one 'station' to another. I have called a couple of times with no call backs. I do NOT recommend this place. I will be canceling my procedures through them and I have scheduled a second opinion with another doctor, where I anticipate a more professional environment. read more

Dr. Fechter did an extraordinary job. It was the best experience I have had in any doctor's office, ever. He was compassionate, extremely intelligent, approachable, unhurried, empathetic, and an amazing listener. I left feeling at ease with a great understanding of what was causing my symptoms and a clear treatment plan. He truly embodies patient-centered care. I feel very lucky to have seen him. Not to mention the medical assistants there are top tier as well! I was even able to get an appointment the same day. I cannot say enough good things. Let's start off most of the doctors are great. The billing and other service are extremely poor. They are constantly incorrectly writing the wrong codes for insurance. Over charge, not passing on messages... a regular nightmare. The rating includes the 4 stars for the doctors. I would not recommend this place.  They are more worried about money than getting you the best results for your eyes. I also picked up some racial tones (was told they would hate to see my account go to collections - why was that assumption made when you must pay before the procedure).  I told them I would pay for the procedure out of pocket, if need be, but they still would not schedule me.   Who turns down cash payments?  The way they handled me it seems like there may be some insurance fraud taking place.   I was told that some medical insurance companies had started paying for the procedure that I needed and that they would check with my insurance.  However, when the benefits person came in to talk to us, she came in automatically stating that my insurance would not pay in a condescending tone as if my insurance was low rate, which I know it is not.  I have never had a problem with them paying a claim in the past.  She never even called them before she made that statement.  So, I called to check for myself only to be told that they do have the procedure code listed with an allowable amount.  So, I get her on the phone with the insurance company and she would not even allow the guy to speak.   She kept overtalking him.   I asked them to file my insurance with the understanding that I know I am responsible for the balance if my insurance don't pay the claim.  I was told they could not do that because they knew the insurance would not pay so then I asked to be put on the schedule and I will pay upfront for the procedure and was still told they could not do that.  Then when I met with the Dr. again, he said they were assuming all the risks and would hate to have to send me to collections if I disappeared.   How are you assuming all the risks if I am paying up front?  During this meeting after they decided my insurance would not pay then the Dr. (whom was on board for the procedure during my appt) offered a different treatment plan which he stated would benefit me right now and then later on down the road when they thought they could bill my insurance we could do the procedure.  Why is there so much emphasis on billing the insurance unless there is some type of fraud involved?  The Dr.'s credibility dropped at that moment for me because he allowed what his benefits department told him to alter the treatment plan he offered me stating he did not know my discretionary income and didn't want to take food off my table but shouldn't I be the one, as the paying patient, decide what I can or cannot afford?  Something is not right about this place. read more

I was diagnosed with glaucoma at 10 years of age, and I am now considered a severe case in both eyes 23 years later. Went into the facility for a problem appointment. Dr. Herbert Fechter is my normal physician at this facility, and he is awesome. Was not told that I would be seeing Dr. Smith until I was checked in, and placed into an exam room. Fechter was in surgery. Dr. Smith would abruptly cut off my question, would disregard my mother's questions or concerns, and rushed through the examination. He did nothing for me, informed that my pressure was elevated, and I should follow up with Dr. Fechter as soon as possible. He is very rude, I did not feel comfortable at any time, and he wasn't even able to locate the tube that I have placed in my eye. I was referred to other physicians by Dr. Fechter due to cornea damage, retinal detachment, and surgery for a tarrosrrhapy. None of these physician's had an issue locating the tubal implants in my eye. He was horrible, and I will be sure that I never have to visit with him again. read more

Instead of answering my questions concerning CATARACT SURGERY, the physician and his assistant seemed annoyed with me and just wanted to move on to the next patient!! They definitely displayed "unprofessional behavior". I asked he physician if he had any IDEA of when I would need surgery. His response was VERY ANGRILY, WELL I DO NOT WALK AROUND WITH A CRYSTAL BALL, SO NO!!! I found this comment to be completely UNNECCESSARY and UNPROFESSIONAL. I asked his assistant for handouts on cataracts, she informed me that they do not have any. However, when I got to the checkout desk, I was informed they should have provided me with some. At this point, I am deciding whether to return to them or not!!! I do not know what the problem is, but there certainly is one!!! read more

Absolutely elated that I went to Eye Guys! Had glasses for years and the contacts that were prescribed to me never seemed to fit my eyes correctly (multiple times). Upon a referral, I travelled from out of state to Eye Guys and saw Dr. Smith. Liked him and trusted him and ended up getting Lasik on the 23rd of October. My vision is already better than with glasses and I am only 10 days post surgery! Wish I would have done this years ago! I can't say enough about the staff and establishment. Everyone was superb. Especially Heather and Sherri. And Dr. Smith took his time with me and asked a lot of questions, like what I did for a living and what I wanted. My Dad had his cataract surgery here and as a worker in the health field for many years myself, I have had good experiences and bad experiences with reception and nursing, on the job and off the job. I come in these places looking to see how that part goes. Happy to say not here, the staff from check in to finish, very nice and attentive. My Dad could see as soon as he got in the car so his surgeon was very good as well (Smith). Having said that, my daughter had taken my Dad for his pre-op appt at their regular nonsurgical office and was a bit displeased with the whole vibe there. She felt it was an overload of patients, like a hurry in and hurry out, staff not so much patient. Maybe work on that part, Eye Guys. After hearing her experience, seems like maybe they become way more nice up in the surgery center after they make sure they have your money?? FYI, the pre-op counts as well. read more

I have been greatly impressed by everything about The Eye Guys. I debated eye surgery for years, so I went in for a free consultation after a coworker referred us to this practice. The facility itself was new, warm, and inviting, and everything seemed to run like a well oiled machine. The consult, pre-LASIK exam, LASIK surgery, and post-op examinations have all been great - I have never had to wait later than my appointment time, and every question I've had has been answered in detail throughout the process. Got LASIK surgery with Dr Smith and I can't recommend it enough! Staff was very friendly and caring. I'm loving the results.

I used to go there to see Dr. Brown and received a thorough and professional examination. After a 4 year move to another state, I returned and thought that they would receive the same service. Boy was I ever wrong. It took 3 hours to get through my appointment even though I was on time apparently the doctors were backed up. Looked like over scheduling to me. Paid extra to get a prescription for new contracts only to realize later on that it couldn't be correct as it was going backwards to a previous years prescription and not my currently needed correction. Dr. doing the examination trusted completely what the technician had done and didn't bother to verify that the new prescription would correct my vision. Was told after I was in the office that they no longer sold lens so they wouldn't even check the fit. They still have a good rep. for surgery but I won't ever go there for an optical exam again. The wait and poor service are not worth the trouble. read more

This was my first visit and it could not have been better. I called for an appointment due to severe irritation of my right eye and was seen the same day. Even as a new patient, registration was quick and efficient. I was seen by Dr. Morgan at my scheduled appointment time with essentially no waiting. He identified the problem and prescribed meds that quickly gave me the relief I needed. Everyone I met was very pleasant and seemed to enjoy their work. Very frustrating, feels like a disorganized cattle call. The waiting room is always packed and they're always running behind schedule. You will not get out of here in under 2 hours. There's an army of assistants who walk around slowly, carrying files, like they're lost. Others walk around in groups of 2-3 just talking. You never see the same person twice, and the dr. only comes in for a quick 15 minutes. The staff is very abrupt, rushed, and impersonal (since there are at least 50 people waiting behind you to get in). This office is much too big to provide personalized care. read more

Misleading when making appointments. They do not give full disclosure on payments/ insurance. If you are needing eye exam or glasses this is not the place for you as that is not considered medical and they will not file insurance for that. They did not let us know that up front and charged $250 for routine eye exam with a prescription to go somewhere else for glasses. Customer experience skills are less than zero! read more
