I came in August 04 at 3pm to get my daughters eye exam and a pair of glasses. Initially it was a good experience. The guy at the front was very kind and checked us in. We were told to wait to do the pre exam. It took a while to get into that room, but we finally got there and their new girl didnt know what she was doing so she had to get someone to assist her, which is fine. Once we got done with the pre exam we were told to go back to the waiting room to wait for eye exam with the doctor.
We finally got to the exam room and we waited for a while before someone came in and asked us to set out of the exam room and sit in the pre exam room. I was confused, but I did what she asked. Then another patient was told to go into the exam room where the doctor immediately went in and did the eye exam for a little boy. Unprofessional and kinda rude that we were already there and waiting, but whatever.
We were told later we could go back into the exam room. Mind you, our appointment was at 3pm and by this time it's creeping up to 5pm which is closing time. The doctor comes into the exam room and she's very nice. She does a great job with my daughter. She makes her comfortable. That part of the visit was the best part. Dr. Brown was very good at making my daughter laugh and feel comfortable (she's really shy so I was very happy with how the doctor treated her). However, the exam was performed very quickly. It was the quickest eye exam I've ever seen and I've had glasses for 15+ years so I know about how long it should take. I didn't think much of it at the time. I just assumed she knew what she was doing. Boy was I wrong.
Once the exam was over we didn't receive the prescription. I was confused because we should've gotten a print out of the prescription before we left, but by this point it was after 5pm. I was told I would receive an email with the prescription.
The next day, I still hadn't received an email so I called the office. I was told it takes 24 hours to finalize the prescription. Whatever that means. Okay fine, so I called again on Wednesday and the prescription still wasn't "finalized". I ended up having to call over and over before they finally finalized it 8 days later. According to the Federal Trade Commission, by law I should've immediately received that prescription before walking out of that office and it took multiple phone calls and lots of back and forth to finally get it over a week later.
Overall, it was a very unprofessional experience and it just gets worse from there. We go back to get my daughters glasses because it took two weeks for them to get made. The "exam" they gave her after receiving the glasses was reading one small letter on a piece of paper that was sitting on the table in front of her. I thought it was weird, but again whatever. We were done. We got the glasses, we had the prescription. We weren't gonna go back to that office. We were finally done...HOWEVER once we got into the car and got down the road a little bit my daughter was complaining of her vision still being blurry with her glasses. I assumed her eyes just needed to adjust so I made her wear them for a few days to see if there was any change. To my surprise there was no change at all. She still couldn't see far away. UGH!!
Dr. Brown was so sweet in the office to my daughter but she rushed through that visit so fast that she gave her the wrong prescription. How frustrating.
I contacted the BBB because of the length of time it took to receive my daughters prescription. It was a ridiculous amount of time and considering I also had to call MULTIPLE times to get the prescription was very frustrating and completely unprofessional on her part. That office needed to be held accountable so I reported them. It is a federal law in the U.S. (the Eyeglass Rule) that eye care providers give patients a copy of their prescription for eyeglasses immediately after the eye exam, according to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC).
Today Oct 13th, I received a phone call from Dr. Brown herself telling me that since I called the BBB and filed a complaint that I was no longer allowed to bring my daughter back to their office. She said that I violated her trust. Wow. Just wow. I told the BBB exactly what happened and it's because I kept getting jerked around for over a week about this prescription. She was mad that I filed a complaint. I told her she didn't have to worry about me or my daughter stepping foot back into her office again because based on what happened and how we were treated that we would be going to find another optometrist. I then hung up and she called me right back. I reiterated that I no longer want my daughter to be her patient and that there was nothing else to say about the matter because we wouldn't be coming back. She called me back AGAIN for the third time. I didnt answer and I blocked her number.
HOW UNPROFESSIONAL!!! Try a letter next time Dr. Brown. I'm glad I never have to deal with these people again. read more
