Kudos to Dr. Luria and his amazing staff! I'd been having a really bloodshot eye for quite some time, and finally decided I needed to see a professional. It was money well spent. Dr. Luria not only took exceptional care of me (having me back once a week to check on my progress without charging for the extra visits until the problem was fixed) and did thorough research (he asked me to look at old photos to see when the bloodshot problem started happening), but got me new contacts, explained why cheap eye drops were causing the problem with my eyes (the pH balance in my eyes is off, so my tears evaporate more quickly!), and found my solution (daily specially medicated drops that don't build up a dependency). This was by far the best eye doctor, most thorough, and most friendly and enjoyable eye doctor I've ever been to. I highly recommend! read more

I did not experienced the sales pressure that other people talk about. I've had my style of frames from EyeQ for about 3 years now. I had a really hard time breaking away from the same silver boring frames I had been wearing for about 12 years. They were really good at finding a pair that suited me. They kept me from going towards a thick black frame, which they assured me, wasn't me. They were right. I've sent numerous friends in for frames and they have always been happy with their results. My most recent experience was replacing a frame of mine that was broken. I had replaced my frames last March. That replacement pair kept ending up crooked. I had been back in to adjust them several times over the last couple months. This time, they just replaced the frames. OMG, I can't believe someone blames the doctor for not noticing they had not taken off their contact lenses. Who would go through an eye exam and not take off their contact lenses, or not make mention of it? Sorry, but there is something very wrong with that. Very odd. I love this place. I've been meaning to write this review for almost a year now (sorry guys!) Last October, my glasses broke and it was time for me to get a new prescription anyway. I went in and the Dr. noticed that my previous prescription wasn't really the right prescription for me and really took the time to figure out what was going on my eyes. It felt really nice to have someone care to check, double check, and triple check to make sure he got it right. Then, Steven was so, so helpful. He helped pick out the perfect frames, taking my occupation into consideration, my personality, and trendiness. When I told him that I would be leaving that weekend to go to the big huge gay rights march in Washington DC, he rushed my glasses to be ready in TWO DAYS instead of a week because he thought it was really awesome that I was going. If you're anything like me, picky and on a budget, choosing new glasses can be an agonizing experience. Not the case at Eye Q Optical! I felt at ease and attended to from the moment I entered the store and it would have been difficult not to purchase my eyeglasses from Eye Q for a number of reasons: 1. The customer service is top notch. I've purchased a number of pairs of glasses in my lifetime from various places and never before had any employees suggest possible frames for me or even offer their opinions. Rather than going through the entire stock of the store and trying on every pair at Eye Q, the employees suggested several frames that they thought would fit my face well and we narrowed the selection down from there. This made the selection process MUCH easier. The employees also made it a point to introduce themselves, learn my name, and remembered me the few times I came to the store before ultimately purchasing my new pair. 2. They have a very generous return policy. If you're not satisfied for any reason, return the pair within 30 days for a full exchange. A great advantage for those who may be having difficulty choosing between two really cool pairs - you can give one a test run and if it turns out you don't like it just go in and exchange for the other pair! 3. They have a lot of really cool and funky frames and competitive prices. They even have their own line of eyeglasses. They don't accept insurance from my provider (though they do accept some insurance plans), but when I went in and told them that some other stores in the area were cheaper and that those stores accept my insurance they offered to match my insurance price, which got me an almost 25% discount! 4. Even the other customers in the store are friendly! I was having trouble deciding between two pairs and while I was trying the two pairs on a number of other customers approached me and gave their opinions. This was actually quite helpful to me in making my decision. All in all, I had an awesome experience at Eye Q and will definitely be recommending the place to anyone who needs new eyeglasses. read more

I love Eye Q. Let me just say, I'm the kind of person who is extremely neurotic about my eyes- if they feel tired, I'm convinced something is horribly wrong and I start panicking. Every time I've seen Dr. Luria, I've felt like he takes his time with me, and answers all of my questions. Even better, he has serious technological shit in his office! I'm used to optometrists who show you a screen with a big "E" and say "uh, can you see this?" Meanwhile, Dr. Luria is taking photographs of the insides of my eyes, and all kinds of other amazing stuff. The staff also warrants a LOT of praise. They are patient, extremely enthusiastic and warm and so customer-service oriented. For example, my fiancee got a pair of glasses there about two years ago. When his prescription changed, he asked Eye Q to replace the lenses with new ones - shortly thereafter, the frames just sort of gave way. Eye Q gave him new glasses for free - no hassle at all. I am a bad person. I wear my contact lenses like a pair of old shoes -- hey, sometimes, they even feel about as chewed up. I finally decided to get my eyes examined since I was running out of lenses. The experience was great. I confessed my eye related sins, got forgiven without having to buy an indulgence, and got a very thorough exam which showed the my eyes had actually improved a bit (could read the 20/15 line with less powerful lenses). They also have this neat machine which basically takes a picture of the inside of your eye. I was all ewww then COOL! The inside of my eyes look like some odd deep sea creature come to life (Sadly there was no descriptive commentary by David Attenborough). After my exam, I chose a pair of glasses and the sales person was nice and aware enough to know that I am the "leave her alone" kind of customer. I also got NO grief when I mentioned I wanted to order my lenses online. All things considered, I was very pleased. read more

I currently live in Los Angeles, but was born and raised in the Greater Boston area. When I was home for Christmas, I was walking through Harvard Square with a friend of mine. He pointed at Eye Q and said, "This is where I get all of my glasses." I studied his amazingly fun pair for a second and said, "Well, I do need new glasses." 5 minutes later, I had Paul, Locke (I think), and even Dr. Luria all handing me frame after frame to try on. Every frame was fun, different than anything else I had ever tried, and surprisingly affordable. The staff, especially Paul, was very helpful and accommodating. After consulting with my friend, calling another friend who worked in the square for her opinion, and even asking a stranger, I settled on a frame. (I wear exclusively glasses every day, no contacts, so it's important that my frames be perfect.) I mentioned that I would need an eye exam, as it had been close to 3 years since my last one. Dr. Luria checked his schedule and said, "I can take you in about 20 minutes." Great! He used new machines that I had not seen at my previous optometrists to take pictures of my eyeballs (way cool). I paid for my glasses and arranged to have them shipped to my apartment. Even when I needed to have something adjusted with my glasses, they were accommodating--from 3000 miles away. We weren't sure if my health insurance covered the exam, so I paid out of pocket with my credit card just in case. Two and a half months later, turns out they sent my account to a medical billing company, even though I already paid. Currently spending time trying to clear that up. Staff are professional and friendly (Dr. Abbott is awesome) other than David Luria himself. I had a couple appointments with Dr. Abbott, then another with him -- he was condescending and seemed to be frustrated the appointment was taking too long (it was the end of the day and maybe he had somewhere to go). 2:30pm on Dec 30th and I want to have an eye exam and get new glasses, today, so that I can use my new job's vision benefit for 2008. I yelp, read through, call Eye Q. They can see me at 5pm. The exam is thorough, good, Dr. Luria was real good at answering my questions and talking through when I might need bifocals and such. Figured out my contact lenses and put in an order. The test pair have been one of the most comfortable pair of contact lenses I have worn. Both Dr. Luria and Tricia were great with me and other customers on looking at frames. Very helpful - try this, try that - and honest - no, that doesn't look good on you. I chatted with other customers; it was more friendly than your neighborhood coffee shop. I ended up with a pair I expect to be very happy with. I live in the South End, and no problem to get the glasses and contacts delivered there. I was thinking of downgrading to 4 stars - they are a bit on the expensive side - but the service, the help, the variety, all of it was so good that I couldn't notch it down. read more

So I've worn glasses since I was 8 and until I went to Eye Q, every optometrist I'd gone to inevitably said something to the effect of "whoa, your eyes are really bad for someone your age". Ummm.... thanks! I hadn't realized this. Thanks for making me feel even more insecure about my -8 myopia + astigmatism. Eye Q is different. They treat me like a rock star who is somehow more special than the teeming masses who have eagle eyes. Eye exam? Quick, minimal guesstimating at what my nemesis the eye chart says. Dr. Luria explains what's happening with my eyes, which I find endlessly fascinating. The whole, time, though, he's thinking about the fun part--picking out new frames! The last time I went was two weeks ago. I needed new glasses badly (it had been four years and my plastic frames were becoming brittle and the lenses were scratched) and thanks to my workplace's flexible spending account, I could finally afford them. (Eye Q isn't cheap, but glasses are the accessory you wear on your face! for me, every day! so ponying up a bit more is worth it). Anyway, Dr. Luria had frames in mind: purple and green, rectangular. I was ready to make the break from my much-loved cateyes and trust Dr. Luria. However, if you're as blind as me, trying on frames is iffy at best--my vision was blurry and blurred further by the eyedrops for the glaucoma test. And purple and green, really? Ummmm... Luckily, I brought my friend K. She and the other two Eye Q employees working that day helped me narrow down my search to three pairs including the one Dr. Luria had picked out. I also benefited from the opinion of a customer who popped in. In the end, the five people helping me choose the new hunk of plastic that I would wear on my face every day picked...the green and purple ones. So Eye Q came through again. Just recently got eye exam and glasses here. Exam: - Reasonably priced and very nice optometrist. - He was really friendly and it was a nice experience. - He didn't offer me any frames for sale after the exam. In fact, someone behind the counter was about to ring me up for my exam only when I said I wanted to look at the frame selection. :) Glasses: - First off nice selection and great service. - Glasses: I really like the selection. I saw a lot of light weight frames that did not have the normal design that you can find everywhere. - Service: I went around 5 different glasses stores in the square before deciding. At each place, I asked if I could take pictures of myself in the glasses so I can ask for second opinions. Eye Q was the only place where they actually took the pictures for me on my iphone. It might have been to their benefit, bc those pictures came out better. - Extra: I normally wear contacts so when they said my glasses would be ready Tues-Thurs, I was ok. Then I went to my 8AM classes. Yep - no time to put in contacts... and the one day I tried, my eyes totally rejected them. I called in around Tues @ 5:10PM to see if I can get glasses on Wed for sure. To my pleasant surprise, they called the lab and told me that they will have the glasses done by Wed 11AM. RESPECT. (I had half expected to be told I called to late because my class ended at 5pm) - Final thoughts: When I went to pick up my glasses, he adjusted the nose-thingies to fit my flat nose. These glasses are very comfortable, light and I have already received two compliments on them :) After service: - I can't say because I haven't gone back for maintenance. I will update when I do. Cons: - Prices aren't the cheapest. With the exam, frames and lens... I was definitely at the other quarter of $$$. It could be the frames, I settled on Bevel... I really loved them and wanted a pair I could wear to school as well as to work. - For now I am cautious, but if I am still as satisfied this time next year, I will know these glasses were worth the money. - Of course, EyeQ offered another frame that was a close second frames -- it was $$$s cheaper so I really don't blame them for my current light wallet... read more

I cannot say enough good things about Eye Q Optical, their staff, and Dr. Luria. Their service is top notch, the in-house designed frames look great, and the staff truly acts as style consultants who help you find the best glasses for your face, even if you were apprehensive to try one of the bolder frames at first. It was a recent experience though that really illustrated to me just how special Eye Q is. After deciding to try a pair of contacts, I went in to see Dr. Luria for a fitting, and later, to learn how to put the lenses in and out. But, I just could not get the lenses in or out, even after multiple visits. Dr. Luria showed nothing but the utmost patience with me, offered reassuring words, and had me come back as many times as it took, even letting me stay beyond my allotted appointment time to keep trying. I highly doubt I would have had a similar experience at another establishment, and as I sit here typing with my new lenses in, I couldn't be happier. In short, if you only seek the lowest prices and commodity frames, there are plenty of places to go. Eye Q is a really great eye glass shop. Frames are cool and the sales staff is really helpful in finding frames that look good on you. They are friendly, pull a lot of frames, suggest things that may be outside of your typical style and give you real feedback on what looks good and what doesn't. That process may feel pushy to some people or if the wrong salesperson is working with you, but for me it has been more helpful than at any other store where I've bought frames. Styles are cool, but mostly in the funky, arty, North East style. That worked for me, but if you are looking for something else you may be disapointed. I had a fantastic experience at Eye Q Optical (September 2012)! Everyone was kind and knew their stuff when it came to eyes and eye-wear. The time and care given by Dr. David was top notch. I have a better understanding of the inner workings of my eyes and how the health of your eyes is determined. Tricia was patient with my ever growing pile of eyeglasses and really helped me think about the way the glasses can add or take away from your features. When it was time to make the final decision - I modeled my selection for Tricia, Dr. David and the other really cool and hip woman who worked there (sorry I forgot your name.) I would like to say it was all about me - but I am sure that they give great service to everyone that comes there! As far as cost goes, there was a special when I was there - $100 off and I took advantage of a service, credit-care, to meet the cost. Again I think it was all worth it. When I still had to squint in my glasses to see anything, I knew it was time for a new eye exam. A busy schedule and a distaste for eye salesmen meant that I put it off for months, but yesterday I finally started calling eyeglasses stores in the Cambridge area asking for eye exam prices. Not only were the people at Eye Q incredibly warm, even on the phone, they helped me walk through the process of checking whether or not my insurance covered a "routine eye exam." Five painless minutes later, I found out that I was indeed covered, and soon I had an eye exam appointment for the next day. When I came in, I filled out two simple forms and was seen by Dr. Luria in minutes. Throughout the entire process, he was respectful, friendly without being overbearing, and educational. He explained every step of the eye exam as well as elaborated on why my eyesight changes over time and how. When I was finished, he asked if I wanted to look at frames. I replied that I would come back later, and that was it. Not sales pressure whatsoever. The process (paperwork, eye exam, chitchat) took 25 minutes. Would definitely go back! I returned because the doctor here seemed very knowledgeable and informed about his practice. My experience at Eye Q was pleasant and, frankly, very nice. I know exactly what other reviewers are talking about when they say the customer service is good. It was, at best, exceptional. I have a health insurance through my job. My job offers a crappy vision plan which I declined because it is a crappy vision plan. My good. Honestly, they treated me like a normal person. I paid for my eye exam with my credit card.. I was treated really well WHILE not being pressured to choose glasses. Frankly, by the end, I was happy I went to EYE Q Optical. Oh, and when I asked for a copy of my prescription It was handed over to me. I went in hoping for an exam and to finally get a new pair of glasses. I came out really calm and comfortable, with glasses, and with a prescription. I am looking forward to my bill because I used my Hilton Honors reward credit card to earn two free nights at any Hilton Hotel in the world. I sincerely hope they contact me again. Just send me a reminder of any upcoming sales and let me know when my annual eye exam is due. TL:DR version: I wish I had I gone to Dr Luria instead of my previous eye doctor. Dr Luria explained that the reason I was having problems with my progessive lenses was because the frames were too shallow. I have been a customer of Eye Q for years. I have had only good experiences with the customer service. I brought in a pair of glasses with a broken frame and had purchased an identical frame elsewhere. Eye Q kindly switched out the lenses for me. I had read in yelp that Eye Q did not do repairs, I learned first hand that this is not the case. I am a happy customer. I went in for sorely needed eye exam and a pair of glasses, I will say, up front, that the service in the office was great, the staff were friendly, Dr Luria's a great eye doctor. The problem is that I was led to believe that my insurance would cover the eye exam. I was assured that they do business with my insurance provider a lot, and that the amount that I paid in the office (which was substantial) would be my out-of-pocket. Since then I have received seven mailings from various individuals seeking more money from me, and every time I turn around I'm paying more money for the same pair of glasses. My insurance, it turns out, was never going to cover an eye exam with Dr. Luria, and what was going to be $200 in glasses, has become $600. To make matters worse, their office's billing provider is absolutely crap. I received three different mailings from them, each with a different extension number, the first two of which weren't even valid entries into the system waiting at the other end of the phone number. When I called during business hours, I got voice mail... it took me a month and a half just to get in touch with someone at Dr. Luria's billing office. This is an appalling experience and it's only the friendliness and quality of the glasses that keep this review from being one star. I will not be going back, even if I get insurance that covers me there in the future. read more

This was my first appointment at Eye Q and I could not recommend them more highly. The office was incredibly well prepared-- hand sanitizer at the door, lines 6 ft apart, a plastic sheet in front of the front desk, and Dr. Luria sanitizes all the equipment twice in between patients. Dr. Luria was very knowledgeable (even explained the difference between contact solubility levels) and the receptionist told me how to get the most out of my insurance and didn't pressure me to buy anything that day. I have been a customer (for contacts & eye exams) for easily over a decade but I recently decided to stop coming here. If I were just rating Dr. Luria, it would be 5 stars; My problem with this business is the staff. I just can't abide the snooty condescension any more. I used to be able to walk in & I would almost always be immediately accommodated. Since I rarely am in the neighborhood anymore (I live over 20 miles away & have for some time), I will pop in on the off chance that I can maybe get an exam (which doesn't take long). The past few times I've tried to deal with people at the desk, I feel like I'm trying to get into an exclusive disco in the '70's. I've often had attitude from the staff throughout my patronage, but it was offset by the always positive experiences with the doctor. Very pushy service. I found out years later that the glasses here were beyond expensive. The new model of the glasses i bought FOUR years ago is offered by a brookline store for one hundred dollars cheaper today (confirmed via a visit to that store). The lens were good, solid and clear, however it took FAR too long (a week and a half) to get them. if anything go here for your lenses, but not for anything else. go places where you can get a bigger selection, because this means you will have a lower cost. I've been to Eye Q Optical for my eye exams for two years in a row now... and I honestly couldn't be happier with them. Dr. Luria is thorough, patient, and friendly - and best of all, he's a really good doctor. He has a perfectly reasonable, logical explanation for whatever ails you, and he does whatever he can to correct the problem. He also uses technology that - prior to visiting his office - I hadn't seen in other optometrists' offices, like the camera that takes a big, clear photo of the inside of your eye to check for any horrifying abnormailities and to compare the overall state of their health year after year. Fancy pants, that Dr. Luria. Both he and the rest of the staff are also really helpful when it's time to pick out frames. I wear both glasses and contacts at various times, and it's important to me that my frames are fashion-forward without making me look ridiculous. The frame selection they offer in this office is AMAZING - no need to weed through a million crappy, identical, so-called "designer" frames just to find one or two good options. Everything here is unique enough to get you noticed for the *right* reasons. Last night at my most recent visit, both Dr. Luria and Steven helped me narrow down my options, and I ended up picking out FABULOUS frames that I never, ever would have tried on by myself without their recommendation. Now I just can't wait until next Friday when I get to pick them up! Is this the cheapest place to get your glasses? Well, no. But these are a DAILY accessory for most people - and for most people who wear glasses, their frames define their faces as much as their noses do. So I'm not afraid to spend a little extra money on myself when it comes to this, and you shouldn't be either. read more

I'm horrible at choosing glass's, for one I cant see a damn thing without mine on so its pretty hard to judge how well they look, I wore coke bottle glass's till freshman year in high school for christ sakes. I had been searching for a new pair everywhere, then someone recommended this place (off yelp nonetheless) I finally picked a much more trendy frame than I normally get, but it was perfect, given my misshapen head. Evidently they design some of the frames themselves, and the staff (Jeremy in my case) was extremely helpful. There were a couple other people in there and we all found frames that just looked great. i had a good experience here at Eye Q-- the doctor and staff were super nice, and i didn't find them pushy at all. i went in for my eye exam and picked out glasses and prescription sunglasses. Dr. Luria answered all the questions i had about contact lenses, and how to make them the most cost effective since i really only need them for snowboarding. He also gave me a great suggestion on which glasses he thought would look great on me, and after trying on a bunch of pairs (they have a really awesome stylish collection), i bought them because he was totally right-- they are the cutest and i get tons of compliments on them. When i went in to pick up said glasses, my fitting went well...although it did take them 4 tries to get my sunglasses right...and I think they somehow might still not fit right...but that's the fault of my pin head i suppose... anyway, overall a nice experience...I'm sure I'll be back this winter for my contacts. read more

I was first introduced to Eye Q by a friend who recommended I go there. Dr. Luria and his staff are incredible. The selection of frames they provide are, hands down, excellent. No branding, no gigantic logos, just high quality stylish glasses to choose from for anyone who might need some. That was a little over 5 years ago and I've been very satisfied with the level of service, professionalism, and quality care they put into every visit I make. Just yesterday my glasses broke right down the middle. I only have 1 pair so I was in a bind. This happened on a Friday and I was sure that I would be "blind" for the weekend. I tried everything I could to remedy the situation myself; I tried to superglue the frames and I tried to tape them (yeah nerddom!) but nothing worked. So, I looked around online to see if I could find one of those quickie places that guarantee a new pair in a day. Well, the selection of frames was abysmal. I don't want to have a logo on my eyewear. I detest being branded like that. So, within a few minutes of that I called up Eye Q. I told them my plight and let them know I needed a new pair of glasses rather quickly. Luckily for me, they had a pair of lenses that were the exact type I needed. So, I popped down to their office in Cambridge, had a look at several frames (designed by Dr. Luria and his partner!), found a pair that were very similar to my old frames and ordered them up right then and there. That was a short 4 hours after my glasses first broke. After work I went back to their office to pick them up. Dr. Luria did a fitting for my face ensuring that they don't slip off and a few minutes later I could see again. The fact that they have multiple locations is fantastic for those who may not be able to trek out to Cambridge. To say the least, I am very happy that I've been going to Eye Q Optical and would highly recommend them to anyone I know. Thanks again to the great people over at Eye Q Optical! Made an appointment through ZocDoc which was very easy. Loved being seen by Dr Luria. He was really helpful, explained everything he was doing. I have been wearing contacts for 15+ years and this was the best experience I have had. read more
