Mobile, Al I started not to go here due to past horrible experiences with insurance and customer service. The last time I went years ago the employee argued with me that I had a copay I had NEVER had a copay and only had paid the difference from what my insurance covered for a contact exam to the price that Eyglass World charges. I called my insurance company in office and they confirmed there was no copay. I also read another review with the same experience and insurance! Fast forward to late March 2026 I decided to try them agaun since this person and that doctor at the time is no longer there and chose to pay out of pocket amd file my own claim which they dont take my insurance anymore anyway. Great, because I have filed before with no problem. I received a contact lenses exam with eye and contact lens rx for $135, but they coded it as a contact lens fit to my insurance as a follow up. The pressure in my eyes were also up. So, instead of the doctor discussing any additional charges when I go to pay for my exam they have charged me $15 for rewetting drops I could purchase from Walmart much cheaper. Wellness therapy $35 for drops given for the increased eye pressure instead of discussing it with me and recommending I see an ophthalmologist and follow up because I have INSURANCE that covers this. I paid a total of $185 for going in for a contact exam that I expect to receive the portion for the contact lens exam back from insurance because I pay for insurance for this coverage. I go in today and speak to Becky to ask for another itemized receipt. The same code as when I went in is on the form. So, I explain to her that it is coded as a contact lens fit, but I had an exam. She says she can't change it and that's how the doctor has it set up in the system. She was nasty and extremely unpleasant today just as she was the day I went in for the exam. She is unprofessional and does not have any customer service skills. Sour face and unwelcoming. I walk out to call my insurance and speak with my insurance and she explains that the code listed is a code for a FOLLOW UP and not an exam. I walked back in and spoke to them again telling them that the code that was listed is incorrect. I then ask for corporate's number and she says "she wants corporate number. She wants us to change the code on her receipt." WHO IS SHE?!?! For a professional and her to refer to me as she like she was very dismissive. I have a name!!!!! I will return tomorrow when the doctor who performed my exam is there and I expect for him to update or provide the correct information acceptable to my insurance for my reimbursement. The provider has been paid his money so there should not be a problem to provide what I need to get mine. I am at least pleased with my rx. However, I know this means absolutely nothing to any of you, but no I won't spend my money here nor will I recommend anyone else. It does hurt the business. Peole read reviews and listen to word of mouth and experiences. They upsale and charge you for things you don't need. They are receivers and thieves!!!!!! I know a little but more hands on with this establishment than I stated in this review. Customer service matters when visiting any establishment and for me it makes a difference and is included in a decision to return. It's sad because again I am pleased with my rx, but due to Becky and her lack of kindness, courteous, unpleasant, unprofessional, rude, distasteful manner I wouldn't want to return. I did go in today 4/15 and instead of dealing with her I decided to ask for a manager I explained to him the issue and he came back shortly with the correct receipt and code. Every two years I dread having to make my way in to the world of eyewear. I planned a half day to begin my venture and Eyeglass World was open so in I went. I was immediately greeted and given a moment on my own. Oliver then asked what I was looking for. I had something specific in mind, described it and was almost immediately given a dozen options! I tried on those and was free to try on other styles as well. Yes, Covid precautions are in place and enforced. I narrowed down my choices to two and then I asked Oliver to pick 3 random pair of glasses he thought would suit me. I was thrilled with his choices and ended up choosing a pair he selected, completely different from my original choice! Needless to say my search was over and under 40 minutes! Today I'm in for my eye exam with Dr Nguyen. I was greeted by Sandra who did the initial tests. She was so lovely and I felt very confident. Dr Nguyen then followed up, again very capable and kind. He explained some not so pleasant conclusions with a comfortable simplicity. I'm so thrilled to have found this place and I would recommend it 100% to anyone read more

This was our first experience with Dr Franklin and Eyeglass World. My daughter and I both had appointments we were seen rather quickly and they explained everything they would be doing. When picking out our glasses they were very helpful and provided us with answers to our questions. We received our glasses within yhe same week. We will be a returning customer. read more

I take my son here every time he needs new frames. Dr. Franklin is great and Ms Sheila is amazing. She makes you feel like family and always makes it such a wonderful experience. They have a great selection for men/women & children. They carry all of the frames that are trending and also always seem to have bogo deals. This is the worst business that I have ever been to. The visit was for an eye exam, which we had an appointment for, but still had to wait for over an hour. The doctor and receptionist that work there were SO RUDE. I haven't worn contacts in about 20 years, so I forgot how to place them in my eye. I asked the doctor to remind me the technique to put them in. His response was, "don't make me show you, I'll have to charge you twenty bucks." I fiddled with them for a minute and got them in, which he responded with "well that was hard to watch". When checkout came, our bill was higher than it should have been, and the receptionists response as to why it didn't add up was literal silence. The doctor came out and said we were out of network. We went home to confirm and they were indeed in our network. The contacts he gave me made my vision blurry and I threw them away, along with the prescription for fear of damaging my eyes with it. This place needs to be shut down or under new management and I wish I would have read all the terrible reviews before wasting hours of my life here. read more

Came in today to drop off frames for my kids for the lenses to be swapped. I was asked at the drop off to come back in 30-40minutes. Came back 50 minutes later and only 1 set was complete. The counter lady was shooing me away like I was a nuisance to be there. I told her I had a second pair and she said the lab was closed and that I could come back later or they could mail me the remaining glasses. These are the only glasses my kid has -so- I told her I would wait. She restated the lab was closed. I told her again I would wait. She then said the tech was at lunch and I could come back in an hour. I told her I would wait. So I sat and waited for the lab tech to come back from lunch and finish the second pair. I requested the old lens set back from the first pair of glasses. The counter lady asked why, then she told me they wouldn't work anymore because the prescription was different, and THEN had to dig them out of the trash in front of me because they had discarded the lenses for me! Why would they trash the transition lenses that I paid for from last year without asking? It was rude overall. The counter lady needs more training. Eye glass world - please train her better! Customers shouldn't have their things trashed nor be shooed away like we are a problem for being there. Especially when we came back later than suggested by the staff the first time. As I was leaving, the counter lady told me next time I should ask for them to place a note in my file about not discarding the lenses. I am not sure why she didn't add the note today? Put it back on the customer I guess! I think this was just so reactive instead of proactive overall. My purchase was not her problem, it was completely mine. Had an appt on 12/30/20, filled out the form and DECLINED the Retinal procedure. Once the 1st part of the appt was complete, the 2nd part was quickly completed as well. Within minutes, I was asked several of the SAME questions & was immediately told "I NEEDED" to have photos of my eyes taken. Assuming this was standard and NOT the procedure I had ALREADY DECLINED 3 TIMES, I agreed. After being rushed in and out of rooms and given my temp lenses, I was summonsed to the front to get my care kit and sign my paperwork. In the bag was 2 EXTRA KITS that I had NEVER gotten before. There was the STANDARD saline solution with case, a Hydro Kit and some rewetting drops. With NO explanation as to why this bill was so high, I simply assumed the charge of $85.00 was correct. After signing the receipts, I was told to go to the other side to order my contact lenses. The lady taking care of me was seemingly nice, but bc she (Alexis) was having such difficulty getting inside the insurance screen, I took that time to review the papers and to check if my script strength had changed since last year and that's when I noticed... Dr. Don Nguyen STOLE MY MONEY! On my paperwork he CHARGED ME FOR NOT ONLY THE PROCEDURE I HAD PREVIOUSLY DECLINED 3 TIMES, HE CHARGED ME FOR THE CONTENTS IN THE BAG THEY HANDED ME WITHOUT INFORMING AS WELL. After much thought & debate, I decided to bring this to Alexis's attention & request a refund. After 3 back and forth convo's w/Dr. Nguyen's office, she returned w/$40.00. Moments later, she returned again and asked for the ENTIRE bag back so I obliged. When Alexis came back for the 4th time, she was EMPTY HANDED! They didn't even have the decency to call me back over to explain the charges (THEFT) or apologize for their error. If that's not BIGOTED ENTITLED PRIVELIGE, I don't know what is!!!!! OUT OF SPITE AND SOULY BIGOTED RETALIATION, the Doctor's office confiscated EVERYTHING simply because I wouldn't allow them to steal my money and I noticed their sneaky way of hiding their thievery on the bottom of my paperwork! The blatant discriminatory undertones I felt were palpable! After the ordering of my new contact lenses was complete, Alexis informed me that my lenses should be in within 5-7 business days...NO LATER THAN 10 due to Covid and the holiday. Well today is 01/13/2021 and I still haven't heard from them! On Dec 30th, bc I had no other way to store my temp lenses, I placed them in separate cups of water and they were RUINED almost immediately. How can they send patients home with no care instructions or care kits after I paid for an ENTIRE appt? I don't have OLD EXPIRED cases and solution on hand bc I have pre existing conditions and can't afford to take the risk of using old materials. To date, I haven't been able to drive, watch television (clearly), go for my daily walks, grocery shop or even enjoy a scenic drive with my husband bc I CAN'T SEE JUST A FEW FEET IN FRONT OF ME. THEY BRAZENLY & WITHOUT HESITATION STOLE MY MONEY AND THEN SPITEFULLY SENT ME HOME W/NOTHING AFTER I BUSTED THEIR THEIVERY! If I can't trust you as a medical professional to NOT go for a "GREEDY ENTITLED & PRIVILEDGED" money grab simply bc I'm Black and you're a Dr., how can I trust you're providing me with the BEST services available? Then, the receptionist filed my insurance wrong and I was not able to get my frames until the Dr. waits two more days to go through the insurance claims. Don't waste your money. I bought an expensive pair of frames and 2 months later they fell apart. When I returned to have them fixed they asked if I had bought the warranty? The people were were all very pleasant. They did not explain things very well. It was a little like pulling teeth to get prices for things. The ad can be very misleading the way it is worded. It was my fault for not getting everything explained thoroughly before I agreed to anything. I went in because of their deal to get 2 pair of regular lens glasses for $78 with exam. When I was told I needed bifocals I knew that would be more expensive, but turns out it negated the deal almost all together. First things first...you can get single lens glasses for $78 with exam. What they mean there is you get that deal if you get an exam. The exam is not included in the price. I went in thinking I would be spending around 100 to 150...ended up being $250 for 2 pairs of bifocals not the progressive kind and with plastic uncoated lens. On the positive side the glasses are fitted excellently and you get free frame repair/adjustments. read more

Filing my insurance and charging us more. They have come up with a $15 copay that Southland has repeatedly said they do not cover. Sheila from the doctor's side does not know what she is doing and wants to continue to argue this with me about it. The staff has never been kind or helpful hence the reason I have not purchased anything other than having an exam performed by Dr Franklin. Will not EVER visit again and I will definitely stop referring people to him. I have bragged about him in the past. NEVER again!!!! The staff is also never consistent. Anyhow I did get an exam today NOT AT EYEGLASS WORLD and I DID NOT pay a $15 copay and they filed my insurance properly. They also did their job and verified my insurance. The only thing Sheila has done in the past was call to verify that I had coverage. She has NEVER verified my coverage. Eyeglass world and their staff are a bunch of incompetent retail people.
