SHAME ON Eyes On Main I've been a customer at Eyes On Main for around 25 years. Back when the store was across the street from where it now is. They've always been on the expensive side, but not overly extreme, and they've always had a nice eclectic selection. However, over the years it seems perhaps they have come to cater to a clientele that doesn't care what they spend and probably thinks that the more they spend, the better it must be. I moved away to the Valley a few years ago and so I hadn't ordered from from them in a while. I wanted something custom so I returned to Eyes On Main as a client. I was able to customize a pair of frames as I wanted them. I knew I was overpaying for the frames ($575.00 I paid in full), but the prices Crystal quoted for the lenses seemed fair and I was happy with the frames. However, when the frames arrived and I went in to fit and pay for the lenses, the total price was shocking. Crystal began by telling me her boss said she could give whatever discount she wanted to give me on the lenses and then tells me it will be an additional $650.00 - including the discount - for the lenses! I took my frames without lenses and left. I went elsewhere and ordered the same type of lenses ( progressives, transitions and anti-glare) Crystal priced at $650.00 (discounted) for a total of $184.00. It pays to shop around! To add insult to injury, Eyes On Main took a photo of my frames, that I designed and paid for, and posted it to their Facebook, instagram and social media pages as store advertising without my permission. read more

I cant say enough wonderful things about eyes on Main. I have a pair of broken Gucci oversized glasses that I bought at Neimans and put my own lenses in... And of course I broke them... Not knowing how to fix them. I called Isa on Main and spoke to Andy who is the most charming gentleman, and he told me to just come on over and he fix them right on the spot. All the staff is so friendly and nice and their prices are extremely fair. In fact, they're much more reasonable than my old optometrist office in New York City. I took my glasses in first thing Monday (by appointment only I believe!) and Andy was able to fix my wrecked glasses in 3 minutes, no problem. He is an absolute wizard with frames and lenses. A few weeks ago, on a super windy day I brought my broken sunglasses into this store. I was super worried if they were fixable. Crystal greeted me very nicely and told me that she will look if she has the particular parts. Within 10 mins she came out with my perfectly fixed sunglasses! The unbelievable part is when I took out my wallet she said "don't worry about it". I was shocked to hear that! Not many businesses treat their customers like this and I was so impressed. It is weird to write a review for something you want, but can't have- but that is what I experienced at Eyes on Main. 1) I have a flat nose bridge and have been looking all over LA and online for plastic glasses that have adjustable nose pads- WHICH EYES ON MAIN CAN DO! Awesome! 2) The selection is very classy and interesting, Awesome! 3) Here is where it got weird: A nice salesman started to help us, but it was unclear about how the process here is different than anywhere else- they ask for your contact information and the staff write down the items you are interested in. Normally I would try on many options, take photos of myself in the glasses for reference, and only talk with the staff about my favorites. There are signs saying no photos, but it wasn't clear to me what they don't want you to photograph (the store, the frames, yourself??). Since it wasn't clear, I asked the staff guy who had my contact information and was writing down my favorites if it was ok if I took pictures of me wearing the glasses to help with the selection process and he approved it. Then the store got busy and the salesman left to help other people. While waiting and trying on glasses, I took a picture of the number on the frame for reference. 4) This is where it got *extra* weird: The owner of the store, a tall older woman, saw me take a picture of the number and sniped "we don't allow you to take pictures of that information" and turned around to ignore me and keep helping other people. They created a situation where it was literally not possible to simultaneously browse/make a selection and follow their rules. I'm disappointed that I was not able to buy their product, but I won't buy things from people who yell at me. I appreciate that they don't want people to browse in their store and buy it cheaper online, but back to my first point- they provide a useful and unique service (adding adjustable nose pads) that is something you can't get online! read more

I had no clue what I wanted but Crystal was very patient and helped me find the right fit for me. She was also good about letting me know which frames would not work great for my face, which I very much appreciated. She's great at what she does and it looks like she's having fun as she does it so it was ACTUALLY fun buying new glasses. A couple months after my first purchase, Crystal did it AGAIN. I brought in my favorite pair of of vintage shades with bent frames all around and with expert precision, they restored them to their original condition. And they could not have been more pleasant! Wow I can't believe this place. They offer a nice curated selection of glasses but have an atrocious customer service policy. You can't take a picture of the glasses on your face. They don't allow any photographs. Are you kidding me?! How am I supposed to decide if I want to purchase anything? I am not someone who just jumps into a pair of $500 frames. I want to consider my options even within the same store before I make a selection. Also I may want a friends opinion if they like them, and if they are not there with me I want to be able to text a pic to them of me with the glasses. Hey maybe even share with the friend what a great store I have found. How awesome the customer service was, etc. They are doing themselves a disservice by not allowing people to use technology to make a purchase decision. Get with the times people. Also the reason I went into a store to replace my Tom Ford frames is because I like having a nice customer service experience and spending some time trying on glasses and listening to suggestions. I wish I could give Eyes on Main a great review since Andy and Crystal were both as accommodating and helpful as they could be, but their lab lacks the knowledge and expertise of other optical shops/labs in the area. Back in early January I brought in my own frames and needed high prescription lenses. I wanted them as thin as possible (I even showed them my current glasses as an example) and was told it shouldn't be a problem. Long story short, after having my lenses recut twice their lab still couldn't get it right and to my satisfaction. I was told "it was the best they could do". Obviously "their best" wasn't good enough and rightly so I asked for a refund. Surprisingly, all I was offered was a store credit (by the owner Susie) for the $870 I spent on the lenses. Why would I want a store credit when I would probably never do business with them again? Rather than pursuing it any further, I came to an agreement with Andy for a refund of half of what I paid. I wasn't really happy with that, but I didn't want to waste any more of my time (I hadn't been happy with the lenses when I first got them back in February but with the Covid-19 pandemic their shop reduced their days and I was away on vacation so it was hard to coordinate anything). Bottom line, I got my lenses cut by The Good See Co. on the Venice Boardwalk (where I bought the frames in the first place) and they were able to get it even thinner (from a 12 which Eyes on Main said was the best they could do down to 8.5!!!) If you need the job done right the first time and a hassle-free experience go to Good See. They are highly professional, have a huge selection of designer/brand names and styles, are actually cheaper (I paid $800 for my new lenses) and know what their doing! read more

If you like rude and expensive, don't miss this opportunity. My daughter brought my glasses in here for a repair while I was in Mexico. I bought them elsewhere 2 months prior and they were expensive. Unfortunately, my daughter didn't bring them back to the place I purchased them. This place charged me $75 to fix the arm. Way overcharged me. The rude lady told me it took them a whole half hour to work on them. Wow! They get more than my therapist. She gets $50 to work on me for 30 minutes. I asked for a copy of the repair slip so I could present to the shop I bought them at and she refused to give it to me! Can someone please explain why? Is this an unusual request? read more

Ordered prescription sunglasses from this shop, but was quite disappointed by the quality considering the high price (over $500 including frames), and the poor advice I received about the suitability of the frames for my prescription. The polarized coating on the frames was poorly applied, leaving a few bubbly specks on the lenses. At the edge of one lens by the nose piece the polarized coating is permanently rainbowed, like an oil slick, and is apparent in that eye when I wear them. My prescription is too strong for the curvature of the frame, distorting the edges of my field of vision significantly. Before I placed the order I asked if the curvature would be a problem and I was assured by the staff that it would not be. read more

At one point I spent 12 years with a single eyeglass frame, mostly because I so dreaded the experience of searching for a new one. Usually it's a struggle for me to find more than a couple of frames I like and the final decision a hesitant one. My last frame from 2 years ago was a major improvement but never fit my face comfortably, sliding down my nose with frustrating frequency. That brings me to Eyes On Main. Within a 2 minute walk from my work, I had been meaning to check out their selection since last year after reading the glowing Yelp reviews. I stopped on a whim during the tail end of a lunch break and it only took 5 minutes of Crystal's guidance to pull 6 frames for serious contention. The next day I returned, and Susie and Andy helped me narrow it down to one. They even offered to order a matte version of the frame just so I had the option. A few days later I had my new frame, new lenses, and on top of that, Andy tweaked my old frames so that the legs actually reached around my ears. Something countless visits to my ophthalmologist's eyeglass department couldn't accomplish. This place is THE argument for ma and pa stores. An excellent selection and exceptional customer service. I was warmly greeted when I arrived and I let them know that the arm of my sunglasses had come off! I had not purchased them there (though I didn't mention that). Without hesitation, a very nice guy took my glasses, took 3 minutes and fixed them... FOR FREE!!!!! I walked out 5 minutes later and my glasses are as good as new!
