I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet! We've been coming here for years. Dr. Uyeda is excellent and strikes the perfect balance between friendly and professional. A true standout is Andrea. Every time we walk in, she remembers us and the details of our past optometry needs, which is always impressive. She's patient and gracious with our many questions and less-than-straightforward requests, and it's clear she knows the business inside and out. She also has a great eye for frames and consistently helps me find the perfect glasses and sunglasses. Overall, this office makes annual eye exams, choosing glasses or sunglasses, and navigating insurance feel easy and stress-free. The location is also very convenient, with easy parking- and on Saturdays, the nearby farmers market and local activities make it an especially nice visit. Generally in agreement with the reviews; the staff and doctor are very friendly individuals who remember your name, about you personally, and are competent at their job. The location is great and parking is a breeze! However, I am going to change optometrists. During the course of my eye exam, which is what I made my appointment for, I was unknowingly given a "contact lens fitting". Like most people, my insurance only pays for an annual eye exam. I'm not really sure what a contact lens fitting is, let alone how it differs from an eye exam. So at the end of the visit, thinking I only experienced a standard exam, I was expecting a bill for just an order of contacts I placed. Instead, I ended up with a bill of roughly $300. Delivered with a big smile. I replayed everything back in my head, thinking maybe the paper I signed was a waiver to perform the exam. Maybe I didn't read closely; it was after work and I was tired. Honestly, I don't know. What I DO know is that it wasn't my first visit here; and since the staff does do a good job of knowing their patients, I was taken aback that they didn't check in and ask if I wanted this expensive additional exam, since I've NEVER asked for one in the past. This place is run by a lot of nice people and generally provides good service. But I can't afford to have this incident happen again. Just be aware of add-on services and make sure to tell the doctor you ONLY want an eye exam. read more

Runway Optometry is an amazing optometry office located in Runway Playa Vista. Great location within Runway. Near both the large parking structure (not free; card only) as well as free street parking (fills up fast). Near coffee shop, restaurants, etc. Bright and airy ambiance. Very comfortable inside. Staff are amazing. They actually know you and remember your name. They follow through with things they say they will do. Collection of both designer glasses and sunglasses is good. Definitely have been happy with their options including Oliver Peoples, Tom Ford, Ray Ban, Persol, etc. Dr Ueda is the BEST!!!! She is thorough and brilliant T what she does while staying down to Earth to allow you to maintain a comfort level during exams and management discussions. Absolutely couldn't recommend her more. They take a variety of of vision insurance plans and can combine plans if you and your significant other both have coverage. Can't speak more highly of Runway Optometry. read more

Everyone here is so nice!! I got to work with Andrea who is super knowledgeable about optometry in general. She answered all of my questions about what different options I had and helped me understand my insurance. We figured out I am eligible every year for glasses so will definitely be returning to Runway next year. The important thing is this is a low pressure situation - you can tell that they really want you to be happy with the product you choose. Andrea took the time to search the specific frame I was after - we couldn't find it at first but she dug deeper and got me what I wanted. This is a super high end boutique with an approachable family atmosphere. Appreciate the care to customer service. Well, this is a cute little store in a very popular location where there's a few things kerp you entertained or to fill the belly.. There's several high-end selection of Shades and very very nice eyeglasses. Customer service was superb very nice friendly and funny. My examination was for a full examination of my eyeball to check and see if I had any type of problems with my eyes. Such as glaucoma, cataracts, dry eye which I do have. The doctor will be treating me for the dry eye. That test was pretty easy and 3D imaging of my eyes was amazing. it was able to tell you everything that was going on what these big ole eyeballs. The doctor is very nice and you can tell that she loved her job. read more

I decided to get some new frames after a couple of years. I'm very picky about the kind of frames for my face shape and looked everywhere for a frame that caught my eye. I finally checked out Runway Optometry and found the PERFECT frames. I love them so much and get compliments daily. I wear contacts as well but since getting these frames I wear glasses more. Everything went smoothly with my insurance and I was able to get my Gucci frames at a very good price. Andrea helped me out and was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about how my insurance works. I'm obsessed with this shop! Andrea and Angie are the best. This post is super past due, I've been visiting this shop for quite a few years now. I recently moved to SF but I always still come back to this shop when I'm down in LA for the weekend. Last weekend I came down and I purchased some great optical glasses and my partner bought some sunglasses. I realized I needed to stop being lazy and make this review happen. I have yet to find any place with a better selection, let alone better service. I'm super indecisive and they know exactly what I need. They always listen to what I want and know what would look good on me. Also I'm never rushed when I'm there, they always let me try out all my options like 50 times (lol even though we all know which one I'm going to go with). Honestly they make it a lot of fun. And that selection! They have so many great brands that a lot of other shops that accept VSP don't carry. I love that I can use my VSP insurance on designer brands at Runway. I highly recommend Andrea who works behind the counter there. She helped fit me into a beautiful pair of handcrafted Mykita German frame eyeglasses. They were pretty expensive I've never spent $1200 on glasses before but I have no buyers remorse I love them! She also helped me find a great pair of Oakley sunglasses. Again expensive but worth the price! Andrea is amazing! She has such positive energy and she is so professional and she was so helpful! I definitely will be using her in the future for all of my retail eye glass needs. And I would encourage you to seek her out for assistance she has great taste and she has incredible integrity. Whereas the two other retail shops told me there would be a two week wait to get eyeglasses and frames (because of Covid supply issues) she had them done in 72 hours! also Special mentioned to Mike who is also on the team. Consumer beware! This place is all about making money. Dr. Ueda and her staff are sweet and courteous but that's about it. The front staff will upsell everything with a hefty mark up. And Dr Ueda will use the scare tactic so that you have to buy glasses/contact lenses. I just had my glasses made. The prescriptions are wrong. They are waaaay to strong for my eyes. I am now getting a second opinion, having to pay out of pocket, since I just used all of my insurance benefits at this place. Unfortunately, many of the optometrists in this area are all about making money. I've yet to still find a genuine caring optometrist who is not so money hungry. read more

Came in for a routine eye exam only to be told that I would need a medical exam and scans after noting my symptoms. After presenting my medical insurance card, I was told that my insurance would not cover the medical eye exam needed and I would need to pay 150. So I paid 150, only then be referred to an ophthalmologist. Go in to see an ophthalmologist not affiliated with this business only to have the same medical eye exam completed... When my medical insurance was ran... My copay was 20 bucks... What does that lead you to believe? Well it lead me to believe that the staff at Runway Optometry are liars and crooks. read more

I've been here plenty of times over the course of 1.5 years and I have to say... they have the best customer service and eye exam experience. To start, every associate remembers your name the moment they meet you. When I came to revisit (a few months) after my initial visit, they remembered who I was and greeted me without hesitation. It was surprising and refreshing. The eye exam is such a smooth experience and did not take long at all. Compared to my previous optometrists, they seem to use the latest technologies to provide quick and informative results. In addition, there were a few times I asked complex questions and they knew it off the top of their head! In terms of frame selections, all associates were extremely knowledgeable in styles and trends. For instance, I was looking to get my prescribed sunglasses with a gray lens (which I thought would be the darkest setting), but they suggested 'G-15' lens, which was definitely darker and made the frames appear more stylish. They definitely look out for you! As long as I have my insurance, I'll keep coming back here. Highly recommend them! read more

Visiting the office feels more like a laid back hangout than a stuffy office. They go out of their way to help you with what you need and pretty sure I tried on EVery pair of glasses in there and they made it fun and not rushed. And Dr. Choi is so thorough -- explained things to me about my eyes, options, and my insurance that would have been helpful to know YEARS ago and she made sure everything was dialed in perfect for me. I just had an appointment with the doctor here for the first time. I procrastinated because I was worried that there might not be a simple solution. I had a complicated order and I realized she alone could solve my problem! LASIK surgery in one eye ten years ago left that eye now prematurely unable to read books and other small print which I love doing. Aka far sighted. Always get those confused kind of like non-fiction and fiction. Luckily I have long arms so I could adjust and hold my book far away, but my right eye was 20/425 or something and could read. Long story short --- it had gotten to the point where each eye had its own idea about what to and it was messing with my focus and ability to see anything. I left with new contacts that made both eyes do the same thing so now my face will age symetrically and my brain can feel fully connected again. Hallelujah! A miracle worker is in da house! Plus the two amazing women at the front counter make me feel at home and they know the customers by name. Small town feel with big city selections and technology! Originally Andrea is so helpful! I switched eye docs after several years of using the same place because the service I receive here is so incredible. It's in a great location near Whole Foods Starbucks. I've always worn glasses my whole life but wanted to transition to contacts so I made an appointment to come after work and man was I impressed! To start things off, the optometrists office is fresh and vibrant inviting you to come in and check out their awesome selection in frames and products. I had an appointment with Dr. Choi and she was awesome! Really knowledgeable in her craft and patient answering all my questions I had about contacts and etc. She made it as simple as possible to walk in, get checked out, and walk out with contacts. Thank you Dr. Choi! As far as the rest of the staff, Angie and Andrea are simply amazing! Always welcoming me back with a smile cheek to cheek as I come in for my monthly supply of contacts. Andrea is actually the one who taught me me how to put the contacts in. She was super helpful and till this day we laugh about how long it took me the first time to put them on to now where I've mastered the art. As far as Angie, she's pretty much my connect when it comes to contacts. I simply call the office, she picks up, we talk and catch up and BAM my contacts are ordered and she will follow up on when they're ready for pick up. She is the definition of quality service On top of everything said, they're open on weekends as well! Dr. Ueda has truly been fantastic since the first visit I had with her. I wanted to purchase more contacts but my prescription expired, I made an appointment and rest is history. I have been dealing with a complicated eye deficiency for most of my life and was resigned to using my good eye to do most of the heavy lifting.
