Good selection of frames and helpful staff. You're free to try on frames with no employee interaction unless you take a number for service. Higher end frames are in display cases. I come for the great selection of "Asian fit frames" as I don't have a complete nose bridge. Also I am very near sighted and need all the bells and whistles of add ons, but with my insurance, I get a deal, even for Costco! The only negative is that reaching a person on the phone to find out if your order is ready is difficult. I suggest calling right before they open or close for your best chances. Even better, a courtesy call to notify the customer their order is ready. Note: the optometrist is an independent contractor and charges a lot for exams. read more

Horrible customer service in the optical department. Long wait and the 3 sales people must be the slowest on planet earth! They simply don't care and even laughing at the situation encouraging people to come back another week! I even emailed my prescription twice only for the them to claim it was not received. Not only is he incredibly professional, kind, AND ATTENTIVE, but you feel like you're dealing with your "Best Friend EVER" even though we just met him. Costco has treated me well all these years, and I love that they pride themselves on great customer service, but that changed today. I have to say that Charles at the optical department is THE RUDEST person EVER. As I waited for my number to be called today, I had to pick up a quick phone call. After I finished my call, I looked up, and he looked at me and said, "Are you #81?" I replied yes. Raising his voice, he said with a VERY BAD ATTITUDE, "I've been calling your number." I told him I was sorry, that I had to pick up an important call, and that I didn't hear him. He then proceeded to get louder and said, "I've been calling your number, THIS LOUD." I was on the phone for only 40 seconds and was just confirming an appointment I had coming up. When I originally picked up the call, the optical attendants were only calling #79. I can't imagine he was calling me for that long. I have to say that the attitude was completely unwarranted. This is the second time Charles has helped me in the past few weeks, and he was equally rude the first time as well. I didn't write a review then because I just tried to let it go. But today, the yelling and the attitude were NOT OK. I felt completely singled out and disrespected. I hope no one ever has to go through the same horrible treatment that I experienced today. read more

After years of seeing Dr. Nishida as well as ordering contact lenses + prescription glasses at this Costco optical location -- dunno why I haven't posted a review yet, I can 100% give 10-star rating all across the board. Anybody you talk to either at Dr. Nishida's office or the optical counter next to the office have always been professional, responsive and follow up in a timely manner on any questions, orders and especially when any issues have come up. Imagine that, you actually get a call back when they say they would call you back. GRIN! Pricing is also super competitive, if not better priced than anywhere else -- and top quality. They still have the best selection and the best deals. Tim was extremely nice and patient with us and helped us decide on frames. He managed our order with a prescription that originated in Europe. Dr. Kato is the most knowledgeable and detail- oriented eye doctor that I ever encountered. He is very patient and spent a lot of time with my eye exam as my eye vision has complications for the contact lens. He is not only very knowledgeable but humorous. I was laughing the entire time. She took the time to show me each pair of glasses I asked to look at (which was very many) and spent time with me until I was able to decide. It is always very busy there so I appreciate the personal service under such high influx. Doctors great. The staff are just rude. They put the wrong time they are going to come back and the refuse to come to the door. It is 2:30 pm. It says they will be open at 10??? They won't even get up to see when they're going to be available. I don't know if they're Costco in Plz or the doctors employees. But they don't believe in customer service. I appreciate the entire team from the front staff to the optometrist to the optical reps who ordered my contacts. Needed updated contact prescription, had an appointment but they also take walk-in and that was going by really fast since there were 2 optometrists seeing patients. I was in and out in 30 minutes. I've heard that this is the busiest Costco Optical department in the country. Based on our experience, it's at least one of the busiest. The technicians are well trained and helpful. Rx for glasses or contact lens can be paper or shown on your smart phone. Be prepared to wait your turn, especially mid-day when it can be 40 minutes or more. read more

Cheap frames broke so easily. I was gently cleaning them. I was convinced by staff that RayBans were better quality. They absolutely were not! No Costco warranty. Stuck paying $100 to replace the frames. The employee MARCO, was one of the rudest employees I have ever encountered anywhere in my life!! Couldn't believe how rude he was. I wish I wasn't so stunned, I was in such disbelief I couldn't even find words in the moment to reply to him. My glasses broke 2 days before I was going out of town and I was clearly in distress. Instead of being kind, he was unbelievably rude. Never buying glasses here again and I don't recommend them to anyone! read more

An absolutely horrible experience. We made an appointment for 6:30 on a Tuesday evening. We had to drive from West Hollywood which ended up being rush hour. Traffic was bad. I pulled up to the front door to let my husband out of the car since it was already 6:38. I parked and went in right after him. When he was checking in and told the two extremely rude girls that his husband made the appointment for him they laughed and got even ruder. They told him that he was late and he missed his appointment. I got involved and said that traffic was horrible and we weren't that late. The "manager " said that there was only a 10 minute grace period. I pointed out that he had gotten to there desk at 6:39. She said that they were closing and that we were the last appointment. I told her that we were only 9 minutes late. At this point both young ladies (using that term loosely) started to become extremely combative and even ruder. When we finally had to except that we were not going to get taken care of and started to leave my husband said that we were never going back there. The manager said that she didn't want us to come back. So why did they ignore my question when I challenged the fact there was a 10 minute grace period and we were 9 minutes late? My husband and I came to the conclusion that if we were husband and wife things would be a little different. read more

I've been getting my eyes check by the Costco optician Dr. Nishida for many years now. Eye exam was only 49 bucks and I got prescriptions for three different types of glasses. Next door they have many different styles and shades for you to choose from. It's not the cheapest price in town (unlike most everything else at Costco) but it's convenient. They even are able to fix your bent frames if you ask nicely with some sort of machine that slightly melts the plastic frames to make them more bendable. This is certainly better than buying new frames! read more

The reasons to go to Costco for your glasses is value, where I give them 5 stars. Selection is maybe a 3. But it's service where I wish I could give a negative 5. They tell you they will call you when your glasses are ready, but they don't. You have a window of 7-10 days, so you start calling, but they never, absolutely never, answer the phone, so you have to go in and wait in line and then - nope, your glasses aren't ready yet. read more

My optometrist had double charged me and my insurance, which I thought was odd, but just complied with. Leo noticed something was wrong, however, and advised me to call to clear things up. Dr. Nishida is absolutely the best optometrist around. We were referred by a friend and now travel from orange county to see him. My husband and I both have had lasik eye surgery and have been treated by ophthalmologists and yet Dr. Nishida provides a more thorough exam. He is polite, kind, and takes the time to explain what he is seeing. During this time of a pandemic, we felt safe in his office. He practices safe protocols and so does his front office staff. I don't know what it is about this location but people should find another job if they don't like the one they have. My mom ordered new eyeglasses. At pickup time, adjustments were needed. This optical "technician" then proceeded to twist & turn things. This person adjusting my mom's glasses did not look like she knew what she was doing. She then asked if my mom had her old glasses with her. Giving her the benefit of the doubt, maybe she was a new employee. If she was, it was obvious she was not well trained. My mom's been wearing eyeglasses for a very long time & has never been asked to see her old eye glasses. A male co-worker saw her & offered this employee assistance. He tried to explain what she needed to do but she ignored him. Her attitude & demeanor toward not only her co-workers but to us as well, was disrespectful & rude. read more
