Problem is, my hair is mostly salt n pepper (a family trait) and I had no idea what to do. I had the pleasure of speaking to Priscilla who helped me by pulling the selection of salt n pepper yaki hair they had and trying to color match me. Unfortunately, the 34 and 44 were a bit too dark and my natural hair has a brown tint, which I guess would make me more cinnamon and sugar than salt n pepper. Anyway, I already have a lot of hair and she really loved my natural silver, white streaks. I decided to just give in and go to the salon, however, I will be back as Priscilla was very helpful and didn't try to sell me something that wouldn't look right. This is what you want in a sales clerk. I left there empty handed but happy that this store is back on my revisit list. I had stopped coming here years ago because of a particularly surly security guard and an equally unpleasant Asian woman who used to man the register. Go glad that has changed. This place has a large selection of products, so the chances of you finding what you want are high. The aisles are a tad tight and I wouldn't bring a stroller inside.the ladies at the register are pleasant and helpful and the guards were nice.

Unlike other beauty supply shops where only salon business owners can purchase, you don't have to be a hair salon professional to purchase here. You just need to love beauty products and shopping. The African family running this shop keeps a close eye on who's walking where and what you need by looking at their camera screen. But let's be real though, in a time where there are folks stealing left and right, I like that the business owner is keeping close tabs period. Since the weather has been hot and knew I was going to Sanibel to beach swim quite a lot, I purchased a deep leave-in conditioner to hydrate my hair afterwards as well grab a pomade to keep my edges snatched. Service was friendly even from the owner's daughter(?) who suggested I try a certain brand in detail- plus prices are reasonable.

He kept rubbing his nose up at me and giving me a weird look everytime I looked forward, which made me uncomfortable. And I didn't do anything to warrant that type of behavior from him. Here's the thing, if a customer is buying from a store that you work at, it's your job to be professional and not make your customers feel bad. I don't know if this man was racist or not, or if he was just a miserable person in general, but that was a major turnoff and made me not want to go back or recommend to others. Learn to treat customers well and leave your misery (or racism) at the door.

I feel such relief that I found Bradley the groomer at Sample Size Social. My dog's breed requires…read moreHand Stripping (not a scissor or clipper cut) and it's rare to find groomers in New York with that skill set. Breeds with double coats such as the Cairn Terrier, Border Terrier and Airedale Terrier should really be Hand Stripped. (Using clippers weakens the dog's coat over time and dulls the color.) Hand Stripping means pulling out the over coat by hand and by the root. It doesn't cause any pain to the animal but it does take more time and requires expertise and honesty. The technique costs more but the results last longer. I had a terrible experience with a previous groomer who claimed what she did was hand stripping and it was obvious by the result that she had just used an electric razor. Sadly, this sort of bait and switch is common. So when I first met Bradley it was clear I was cautious. He offered to chat and it became obvious he knew how to care for my dog's breed very well. When we first met in person, Bradley came out, sat down with me and really listened. You can't fake that level of concern. Bradley has a grounded, calm and kind presence. I showed him photos as a guide and he answered all my questions. He also established an instant rapport with my dog. Bradley has that "dog person" vibe and animals pick up on that right away. When I went back to pick up my dog I was blown away by the result. Her coat had a luster and depth of color I hadn't seen since she was a pup. She was so svelte! The detail work around the face was exactly the breed standard and he left her with the most charming goatee. Hard-to-strip areas like her paws, tummy and privates all looked great. Her nails were perfectly trimmed. Hand Stripping is common in the U.K. but it's hard to find groomers who are sufficiently trained in the technique in New York. I highly recommend Bradley.

I originally found this place by just coming for a regular wash & set by one of the other girls. I've tried other places in the area, but I got the best wash & set here. Once I came in, I saw that they sold extensions, and I saw other clients getting maintenance with their tape in. I immediately asked for their Instagram, and saw that the owner did tape in installs and booked the appointment and here I am today. I've been coming here since George first opened, about 25 years ago. At that time it was close to…read moremy apartment, within walking distance. But even after moving out of Hackensack I continue to drive (a half hour +) down to George's place to have my hair and beard done. I'm sure there are good barbers closer to me, but George is a great barber and a really, really nice guy. When my mother (R.I.P.) came to NJ to visit me, I made a point of introducing her to George. When I got married, I made a point of introducing my wife to George. He's that kind of guy. One time I stopped by an hour after I landed from a long vacation in Europe, and I'd forgotten that I didn't have any US$. Not only did he say that I could pay him later, he loaned me $20 out of the register for emergencies until I could get to an ATM since I had to go right to work. He's that kind of guy. Most importantly, his work is thorough and exceptional and his conversation is fascinating. He trims your eyebrows, nose hairs and ear hairs. I will be a loyal customer as long as he is in business, and I hope that's for a long time! There's plenty of free parking right next to his shop.
