Not like I remember. I have been here several times but it's been a couple of years. Tables need refinishing. It has a sticky feel. The slaw recipe has changed. I remember it being sweeter. It tasted more vinegary this time. Hush puppies were still good. The slaw is the one thing I used to love, but I was disappointed. The catfish filets were ok. They didn't taste clean. If you've eaten a lot of catfish you know what I'm talking about. Sometimes catfish can taste "dirty". They just need to pay more attention to the recipes. Stopped in while visiting my son at Fort Moore. It's on the Alabama side which is so much nicer than Georgia BTW. The place smelled clean and the tables were clean but the floor was really sticky everywhere! The waitress was amazing, helpful and very good at her job! I loved her enthusiasm! We ordered some beers, 3 Po boys and fries. We were given huge , delicious, crunchy , spicy hush puppies for the table to enjoy before we got our food. Also some cold slightly sweet coleslaw. What a nice surprise !! The oysters on my sandwich were slightly breaded and just delicious!! The sauce they gave us on the side was such a compliment to the sandwich! It has a country decor that is very fitting for the restaurant because it gives the impression that the animals were hunted in the process of securing the food that they are preparing for the customers. Everyone knows that you have to go to the coast to get good seafood, at least in most cases. I stopped in Ezell's the other night, my first time, and I was pleasantly surprised. First of all, it is not a "fancy" place but it does have atmosphere in the form of a certain rustic charm. The food was sooo good; it rivaled the better restaurants on the Gulf. Now of course I didn't try all of their offerings, but what I had was superb. The hush puppies were great- moist, well-seasoned, and flavorful. The cole slaw was waaay above average, great flavor and NOT just cabbage swimming in a pond of mayonaise, and the fish- simply spectacular. I stopped in for catfish, but when I got inside, there was a sign about a red-fish special, so I went with that. Oh my goodness I enjoyed it so much. And the service, I was waited on by a young woman named Brianna. She was awesome. Very friendly, attentive, and personable. The entire meal and experience rates 5 stars with me. Ezell's is an excellent place to go if you are craving whole (or filet) catfish. Great service, food, and good old-time ambiance. But be advised...they are on Eastern time zone and close at 8pm Tuesday thru Thursday and are open later on Friday & Saturday. My buddy & me made the mistake of showing up at 7:15pm on our Central Time and were out of luck. So, lesson learned...be aware of them being on Eastern time or call ahead. This is the best catfish I have ever had (and I've had a lot). The very light breading was so good. They offer free hush puppies and the coleslaw is awesome (we got seconds on both). There were so many great options to choose from. As an appetizer we got the fried oysters and they were yummy. For our entrees, we got catfish, alligator, and shrimp-all were great but we were both wishing we had only gone with the catfish! Went here a few days ago with my family and we had a nice time. The ambiance is good, it's like your typical fisherman's-themed restaurant. The service is great, everything came out pretty quickly and our server took care of everything without us even asking. The only downside is the food didn't have much flavor, even after giving it another chance. The coleslaw is great but the hush puppies could do with a little more flavor. They taste like they're made with just cornmeal and jalapeños. My parents ordered butterfly and popcorn shrimp, my gf ordered peel and eat shrimp, and I had the grilled catfish fillet. My parents enjoyed their food but on my plate the only thing that had some flavor to it was the catfish. I tried a piece of shrimp and it tasted like just plain boiled shrimp. The cheese grits my gf ordered could've used some salt and pepper. It's a good restaurant and the service is great, but the food could use some improvement. But, it's a lot of fried items! You can get blackened fish, peel and eat shrimp. There aren't (near) as many options as the fried ones. It's a treat! It's not for someone dieting or trying to eat healthy. Possible/but, hard. Most people come here for the fried catfish/catfish filet, and it's to die for! Very good! I just love shrimp, too. You can fill up on appetizers alone! The jalapeño cheddar hush puppies and coleslaw or very good and you get refills. The alcoholic drink menu is extremely small, so do not go here and intend to drink but the food was very good. The fried gator appetizers were amazing and the shrimp Po boy, fried catfish and cheddar grits were also great. Service is also excellent and food came out fairly quick. I've always seen signs for Ezell's and packed parking lots. I decided to give it a chance and the food was pretty good. I enjoy the side dishes but the main dish especially the gumbo was very salty. The gumbo was actually so salty I literally felt like it would give me high blood pressure after eating. The employee's were very nice and welcoming. I would just recommend less salt in the seafood gumbo. Also the kitchen needs to be updated it looked very dirty. This actually made me a little nervous to eat the food after seeing the kitchen. I was in the city for my sister's graduation. Afterward we stopped in to this little place to eat..I was to my surprise very delious. They are strictly a seafood spot so don't go there expecting much more. We had one in our party that wanted scallop but not on menu. Not too loud, more leaning toward quiet. Server was friendly, but really slow in checking up on us, getting refills and even placing our order. The coleslaw was great. Hush PuppiesHushpuppies, nothing special. The fried alligator was really good, but there was more breading than meat. No one raced over their meal. Chicken plate cost an arm and a leg for the few strips and wings. Had to hunt down the waitress to get our check. Manager apologized, but took just as long to bring the check. Ezell's Catfish Cabin in Phenix City was on point. There is another location over the border in Columbus, GA, and I can't wait to try it. Our waitress got to the table with steaming hot hushpuppies and they were some of the best hushpuppies I have ever tried! Outstanding and you are able to have them replenished! Both myself and the hubby got the catfish filets and they were SO good. Perfectly battered and fried. We had the collard greens as a side and they were also nicely seasoned and perfectly made. The catfish filets were not the ¨size of fish sticks¨, in fact, they were were three normal sized filets, which I devoured. I haven't tried the appetizers yet, but the fried pickles are calling my name. The fried shrimp also looked amazing. They also have desserts--the waitress kept telling us about the peach cobbler. I think I will take advantage of the M-Thurs $6.99 select entrée dinners and try some appetizers and sneak in a dessert in the future! Ezell's was definitely worth it. We were met by a friendly hostess/waitress. Ezell, whoever you are get that sweet bubbly gal some help, please! Let me tell you that gal held her own when it came to good service even on her own! The hush puppies and slaw she brought out for us to nibble on while we waited on our food was amazing! I call these items, "Shut up! We are making your food as fast as we can items!" They were tasty and did their jobs well! When the entrees arrived we were not disappointed! Super Dave could not wait long enough for me to take a picture before digging into his Catfish! He said it was the best Catfish he had since the last time he made some in 1997! That is high praise! His cheese grits were creamy and hot! I had the chicken fingers and fries! I wanted a greasy meal, and that is what I got! I loved every last bite of it! Now why did I deduct one star? Because there were three different groups of dinners in the restaurant the same time we were. Each group had a toddler. Apparently a new toddler language has been developed that is spoken in ear drum piercing whoops. Every time that I am near Columbus Georgia I always like to go to Ezell's. I love their catfish and hush puppies. However this last time that my family and I visited we were a little disappointed in the service and the quality. Even though the restaurant was not very busy our male waiter was preoccupied with the female staff. The hush puppies, normally hot and crispy and filled with deliciousness were a bit over cooked and on the greasy side. Every time in the past when I have visited here we have very satisfied with the quality and service. I will return here someday hopefully everything will improve. read more

We went on Sunday on a couples date. They were slow and we were seated rather quickly. We ordered the fried alligator. It arrived quickly but it was slightly burned. The cole slaw & hush puppies were delicious. I ordered the combo plate that included the fried shrimp and the catfish. The shrimp were very tiny and had to much breading. The catfish tasted awful & the breading tasted like corn mill and was also over battered. The waitress was nice and attentive. The women's bathroom was horrible. I stepped in and was sliding all over the bathroom floor and one of the stalls had a door missing. Just awful. I have eaten here before but they have went down terribly. read more

I was amazed by this eatery; everything was good and most enjoyable. From the generous portion of Hush Puppies and coleslaw, served to us while we were looking the menu over and the delicious ice tea. We ordered Cat fish, Alligator nuggets, Fried Okra, Onion rings and fried pickles. Everything was excellent and fried to perfection.
