My home is on the market and a prospective buyer had an inspection performed of the home. I have always used the fireplace as a wood burning fireplace. The inspector noted some findings in the fireplace which he thought were unusual for a wood burning fireplace (tubing at the top of the fireplace). I had never noticed those findings previously so I was also curious as to their function. I looked up F&S Fireplace and saw that they had great reviews on Yelp and other sites. So I called and spoke to Kevin (on a Saturday). He was actually on a family trip in Half Moon Bay but took time out of his trip to speak to me about my concerns. He requested that I send him pictures of the fireplace and the tubing in the fireplace and he would take a look. I texted him several pictures of the fireplace and the tubing and he promptly texted me back confirming that it was indeed a wood burning fireplace and the tubing was not related to gas but were clearly heat distribution tubing. He said the heat distribution tubing was so obvious in the pictures that he even offered to write me an email or letter confirming his findings for NO CHARGE whatsoever! And again, all this on a Saturday afternoon when he was on a family trip in Half Moon Bay. I accepted his gracious offer and he was true to his word and sent me an email the very next Monday confirming his findings (which I then forwarded to the prospective buyers). I did not need to have them perform any in house services (but they seem to have excellent reviews for their work) but Kevin truly went above and beyond what anyone would have done in that situation. Giving detailed advice on a weekend, when he was on a family trip with his family, for absolutely no charge. Just to help me out in my situation. You really don't run into people like Kevin anymore. I have not met him personally but I still have no reservations giving him my highest recommendation for service above and beyond. read more

I have an 8 year old house with a gas fireplace system that has failed twice. I researched the local companies that sell them and have tried 2 different shops. The superior brand fireplace has a thermal sensor that is resettable mounted in the door frame. F & S Systems offered to come out the next day and fix my fireplace or talk me through a few basic checks to trouble shoot. I checked the 2 probable issues and found the reset button on the sensor. I called back to see what I owed them and they wouldn't accept any money. The San Carlos firm wanted a $150 dollar minimum and 6 week waiting list, the Campbell firm wouldn't work on Superior. I applaud the R & S company for customer service, speed and willingness to tackle any brand. read more

We never had our gas fireplaces repaired before and just put up with them not working well for years. I called and he responded that evening. One of the igniters on one was finicky. The wiring was not good. The other one never produced heat and never worked well. He noticed the previous owners had put too much filler in one fireplace and in both the rocks/sand and logs were all in the wrong place. He cleaned them out and rearranged them. He also told me how to take care of them and light the open fireplace safely. He was worth the cost of $175 for the first fireplace and $100 for the second. My husband and I just bought a small home built in 1978. According to the previous owner, the gas log fireplace hadn't ever worked. While researching the possible purchase and installation of a new insert, we found Daniel. That was our lucky day! He and his assistant arrived promptly the next day, lit the pilot, cleaned the area and told us that our old unit was working perfectly. I was looking for a new fireplace service provider and checked out Yelp. I decided to try F & S Fireplace Systems for myself. Daniel called me back the same day and was willing to work with me to find a convenient time for both of us as I wanted him to tune up my fireplace insert. He called the next day to find a time he could come over. He showed up on time, protected my stone hearth from dirt etc. He took the logs out, cleaned up the pipes etc. put the logs back and checked to make sure everything worked OK. Now I see why this place gets 5 stars! When I first called for someone to come out and look at my fireplace (that hasn't worked in 2 years), I got a recording and thought, "uh, oh"....but, to my pleasant surprise, Daniel called right back and setup a date to come out to my place to check things out. He gave me his service call price right away and I appreciated that. It took about 3 tries for him and his crew to finally get my 16 year old gas fireplace working but, Daniel's outstanding service and reliability really endured me. He had to order two sets of parts. Thinking the problem may have been my mother board alone, he ordered that part but not the other (some sort of valve...) because he didn't want to over charge me for some part that I didn't need. Unfortunately, after the mother board was replaced, it was determined that the valve needed replacing as well. True, he could have ordered both parts at the same time and saved one trip but, as I said earlier he was actually looking out for me and would not accept one penny (including the service charge) until the fireplace was working. Needless to say, after replacing the valve, I had a working fireplace for the first time in a couple years. This group is totally upstanding and honest. I highly recommend them. They were clean, took off their shoes before entering and really know their business. So glad I found this place on Yelp! I have an older gas fireplace that was never installed correctly by the store and I've struggled with it for more than 10 years with a parade of technicians who couldn't make it work as advertised. It was supposed to come one with the flip of a switch and a fan was supposed to be internally wired to come on when the fireplace got to a certain temperature. Daniel & Kevin showed up and said that, yes, it was a mess and they could make it right. and they did!! We've been enjoying wonderful fires on chilly days and nights with the flip of a switch (as originally advertised). I had an additional issue about 3 weeks later that was related to the age of the equipment. They worked hard to come out as quickly as possible (during the busy holiday season) and fixed this problem too, No Charge. They said it was part of the original service.
